Chapter Five
Camilla's POV
"Where are you?! He's almost leaving." I whispered yelled on the phone. Sean went back home early to get change of clothes and he was taking his precious time coming back.
"In front of the door. Calm down woman." Sean said annoyed. It was 12:00 in the afternoon and uncle Russell was ready to go to the address we found. I wasn't going to let him go alone so I came up with a plan. The doorbell rang and I checked my clothes and tied my hair in a messy ponytail.
"I'll get it!" I yelled running down the stairs.
"Are you going somewhere?" Uncle Russell asked putting on his coat.
"Um yeah." I answered opening the door to reveal Sean standing there with his ruffled hair, sweatshirt and a pair of black jeans.
"Good afternoon sir." Sean greeted only to get a nod in response.
"Where are you kids going?" Uncle Russell asked walking towards us.
"To a friend's house." I lied quickly, dragging Sean out. I entered his car and Sean drove out immediately.
"Where do we wait for him?" Sean asked when he was farther away from the house.
"I don't know." I mused, "what about behind those trees?" I asked pointing at a bunch of trees that were grown together on the side of the road. Sean parked behind the trees and we waited. We could get a clear view of the house from this place.
"There he is!" I exclaimed and Sean winced, " start the car, start the car!" I said and Sean drove out slowly following uncle Russell's car.
*******
" Should we follow him?" Sean asked as uncle Russell parked his car in front of a small cottage . We've been following him for at least thirty minutes and my butt was starting to hurt from sitting down for so long.
"Yeah, let's go." I answered opening the door. I stretched my body and yawned. I looked at my uncle's car from a distance and I found him walking towards the cottage. "Let's hurry up."
We neared the house slowly and we heard voices, one belonged to my uncle and the other was that of a woman.
"Sorry for disturbing you but is this the residence of a woman named Azura?" Uncle Russell asked the woman.
"Hey handsome. Sorry I just moved in with my mum a month ago." the woman replied, was she flirting with my uncle? Ew.
"Ok, what about the former resident? Do you know where they are now?" My uncle asked again.
"I can give you his address." the woman said, how can she give someone's address to a stranger?
"That would be nice of you." uncle Russell said, " what's the number below the address for? Is it the owner's?"
"No, that's mine, silly." I scrunched my face in disgust and Sean bent over and pretended to be puking, i don't blame him.
"We should go now." Sean whispered and I nodded in agreement.
*******
Funny story, Sean and I were following uncle Russell to the next destination when Sean's car decided to stop in the middle of nowhere.
"Nat, you can't do this to me" Sean told his car and I rolled my eyes annoyed.
"How could you not know your car is not in a good condition?" I asked irritated.
"It's not my fault. I didn't know we'd be going on a freaking field trip." Sean argued back.
"I'm calling uncle Russell." I said bringing out my phone.
"Why?!" Sean asked in horror.
"We don't have any other choice now." I said taking a deep breath, " hey, uncle. Can you please turn your car around?"
"What are you talking about?" Uncle Russell asked and I chuckled nervously.
"Funny story..."
******
"I can't believe you kids." uncle Russell muttered. Sean and I were now in uncle Russell's car. He decided to continue the journey because there would be no use turning back now. Uncle Russell called his mechanic so Sean's car was going to be taken care of.
"Are we there yet?" Sean asked from the backseat oblivious to uncle Russell's anger. A small broken down house came into our view and uncle Russell looked at the address on the paper and looked at the house again.
"This is the house." he said parking the car. We all came down from the car and uncle Russell looked at Sean and I and groaned. "Just don't say anything, ok?" Sean and I nodded like the good kids we were not.
"Hello?!" Uncle Russell called out knocking on the door and I feared the house would fall any second. The front door creaked open revealing a lean old man, when I say old, I mean really really old.
"How can I help you?" He croaked leaning on his crooked walking stick.
"We are looking for a woman named Azura. We just want to.." the front door slammed in front of our faces.
"At least we know he knows something about Azura." Sean mused and I nodded in agreement. Uncle Russell knocked again on the front door and the old man didn't respond.
"Sir, this is a matter of life or death. We need you to give us an answer. Someone's life is on the line." uncle Russell said knocking again. I looked at him with wide eyes and he just shrugged, "bending the truth sometimes doesn't hurt anyone." he whispered and the door opened.
"Come in." we all entered the house. Everywhere was just as I imagined. The furniture was wooden, no television or anything just plain old stick house. "She made sure I don't talk about her. I can't tell you much"
"Tell us anything sir." uncle Russell pleaded.
"I know. It's high time I relieved myself of my curse." the old man sighed. "Many years ago when I was still a young man without this brittle bones, I took in a woman who I knew not into my home. Once she entered, she cast a spell on me. Anytime I mention her name, I would die instantly." He paused and coughed a little, I saw a red fluid on his hand and I don't need a soothsayer to tell me it was blood. " I was a mere ignorant man who saw only a beautiful woman nothing else...", Sean coughed immediately breaking the tense air and we all looked at him.
"Oh, I didn't mean to. I choked on something. Sorry." Sean said immediately and uncle Russell rolled his eyes at him. "Carry on sir."
"One day, a group of armed men came to my house looking for her. I didn't know what was going on so I tried to explain to them that the only woman in my house was A.." the old man immediately started coughing up blood uncle Russell stood up to help him but the old man raised his hand signalling him not to come. "And this happens every time I talk about her. I can't say anymore."
"Just tell us where she is now and we'll be on our way." uncle Russell said
"She's dead."
*******
"I can't believe this." Sean muttered from the backseat. We left the old man's house a while ago and everyone has been blue ever since. We drove into a gas station and Sean sat up immediately. "Are you sure we are not fated to be together?" I turned to look at who he was talking to only to see the girl from the library.
"Fill the tank up." uncle Russell said opening his wallet.
"Yes sir"
"Fate?" I laughed, "more like cursed." Sean rolled his eyes at me.
A Yelp cut Sean and I from our banter and we turned towards the direction only to see the girl holding her head with her hands.
"Are you ok?" Sean said worriedly and uncle Russell came out of the car immediately.
"Should I call the ambulance?" I asked not knowing what to do.
"Finally.." the girl whispered.
