Chapter 20: Lost Memories
(Y/n)'s P.O.V
A nice lady with a 'W' on her belt walked closer to my hospital bed. The people in costumes had taken me to their satellite after I woke up.
"You have amnesia honey," the woman spoke as if I were a child, "Your memories may come back over time...But it's iffy."
"Thank you..."
"Aunt Wonder, it's what you called me," she smiled. A man who looked strangely like a bat entered.
"Your vitals are healthy, but because of your current state and popularity with the civilians you'll be staying here." He reported. I found myself gripping a rose necklace I had no recollection of. It sent a tingle of familiarity through me, but not enough, not what I wanted, what I needed.
"What did I call you?" I asked the man-bat.
"Uncle Bat," the ghost of a smile appeared on his face, "Get some rest (Y/n)."
The two of them left the room, bringing silence once again. I leaned back in my bed, the soft pillows the only comforting thing in this now unknown world. It was like waking up from a coma, I didn't know what was going on.
There was a hero, Nightwing, they called him. He never talked to me, not after I woke up. Once I asked what was going on he backed away, he looked shocked. We must have been good friends before I forgot everything.
"Goodnight, new world," I mumbled before falling into a troubled sleep.
I was running away from the heroes, towards a large red light. As I was getting closer another me started running alongside me.
"Are you going to take my hand now?" The copy asked.
"Now's the time," I panted.
"A warning, it will be like a reset. You'll forget everything, everyone."
"Why didn't you tell me this sooner!" I screamed.
"You wouldn't have said yes," the copy shrugged.
"You're right, but I don't have a choice now do I? If I can save everyone, it's worth it."
I continued running towards the light, stopping when I saw a strange machine with a brain floating on the top, and a gorilla.
"Coming back was a bad move (Y/n)," the brain thing laughed, it sent shivers up my spine, but my dream self became angry.
"It was a good move," I growled.
"Good move? good move, you think you have any moves at all?" the brain thing lost his accent, his voice sounding demonic, "You can defeat the Joker, but me, me? I'm the worlds greatest villain! You can't defeat me!"
"Watch me. B.E.M!" I grabbed the copy's hand. Pain started ripping through my body as I let out an ear splitting scream, it was banshee worthy.
The pain turned into strength as I raised up my hands, the earth starting to shake. Cracks started to appear in the ground, lava rising from them. My eyes turned black, as the lava rose up and burned away at the machine. The light became wider, then imploded. The lava and cracks widened enough for the brain thing and the gorilla to fall through.
"Time for the reset, your instincts are joined now, which means no need, goodbye."
I fell to the ground, forgetting everything, and everyone.
I woke with a gasp. Turning to the bedside table where that aged photo sat. I stood up, finding my way to the training room, where the younger heroes were training for the day.
"I remembered something!" I yelled.
****************
It had been a week I got that memory back, and there had been nothing new. Apparently people (on social media and stuff) were wondering where I was, but I still wasn't allowed out.
"Goodnight everyone," I made my way to my temporary room. Everyday I was shown countless pictures and videos of things I couldn't remember.
People were expecting me to get my memories back, so why wasn't I?
"Get up, get up, get up!" Someone yelled pulling the warm covers off of me, "It's national honorary brother sister day!"
"There's no such thing," I grumbled opening my eyes. Wally, I think, was standing in front of me. He looked to be around 13.
"Well, there should be, now come on sis! Get your lazy butt up for some fun!"
"Love you too Wally."
****************
Artemis and Miss Martian (M'gann was what I was supposed to call her) were sitting next to me while we were getting mani-pedis.
"Got to say Artemis, surprised you like something like this," I looked at the blonde.
"I find them invading, yet relaxing."
"We don't have things like this where I come from." M'gann sighed.
***************
Superboy was watching static again, I rolled my eyes, and grabbed the remote, changing it to my favorite show.
"You are going to watch something other than static."
3 seasons later Conner watched the final credits roll by with a groan.
"They can't just end it like that!"
"Told you you'd like real TV."
***************
I sat down on the beach next to Aqualad. It was a week since Tu'la was killed, and he was still mourning.
"Hey," I greeted, he nodded in response. I let out a sigh, "Kaldur, I know it's hard, losing someone you love. But she died a hero, literally. I want you to think about this, what would she want you to do?"
"Thank you (Y/n)."
"Always a pleasure Kal."
I jumped out of bed, running out of my room. The team was already here, ready to start 'memory training'. Once they saw me, concern began to wash over all of their faces.
"I remember, I remember like, everything."
"Me?" Nightwing asked, excited and worried.
"I'm sorry, but I don't remember you."
Wally patted him on the shoulder, I felt bad, he seemed to be really important.
Nightwing's P.O.V
We went through practice as usual, but since she remembered almost everyone, it was east. Why didn't she remember me yet? I loved her.
Despite her knowing mostly everyone, practice ran longer than usual, we went over what she remembered, which made things easier, but lengthened the time.
"Thanks for everything guys, night."
After she left I sighed, running a hand through my hair. I started to slowly put the stuff away.
"She'll remember," Artemis assured me before she zeta-d home.
I found myself walking towards (Y/n)'s room, she was already sleeping.
"All those days, chasing down a villain. All those years, fighting in a blur. All that time never really seeing, life as it could be. Now you're here, shinning like a bright star. Now you're here suddenly I know. When you're here it's crystal clear, you're where you're meant to be." I quietly sang, observing her peaceful figure, "This is where you would sing."
I leaned down and kissed her gently, a very Disney thing to do. Her eyes fluttered open and she smiled.
"I remember you."
