Chapter 19: Destruction

"Let me tell you something. No one is coming to save you now."

I stopped breathing for a minute, I already knew no one was coming, they didn't know where I was. But hearing someone say it, made everything really sink in.

"You don't think I know that," I finally whispered, "I made my choice. I kept my end of the deal, have you kept yours?"

"I have. Mallah, take her to the machine and search for trackers."

Mallah pulled me and started pushing me towards the machine. I was lead through a detector of sorts, which scanned me for trackers. I made sure to get rid of all of them before I left, I was young not stupid.

After the detector I was led to another room in the machine. It reminded me of the cave's training room. It had white walls, and a blue digital floor, for what I didn't know.

"What you have to do is simple. A sim will pop up, no matter who it is, kill it." Brain ordered as I stepped onto the floor.

"Why, what will that do?"

"The energy from your powers will charge the machine, and when it is fully charged...the world will be mine."

"And when the machine is charged I..."

"Will have two hours to eat and rest before coming back in. That way the machine will never run out of power."

I nodded absently, what if the sim made the team appear? Or innocent civilians?

"Then you kill them," B.E.M appeared with a shrug, "You knew what you were getting into, you were weak when you made the deal, and you know it."

"I'm not weak." I growled, clenching my fists.

"Prove it," she disappeared.

A whirring sound caught my attention, two hollow pillars were rising into the room. I looked into them. Large rocks, and water. Exactly what I needed.

"Excuse me," a voice spoke. I whipped around, Mina was standing there. Her blue hair in childish pigtails, her hazel eyes shinning with innocence.

"Oh no," I mumbled. I hesitantly took water out of the pillar, turning it into ice. Mina backed up her hands starting to shake.

"(Y/n) please, I'm your friend," she begged tears pooling in her eyes.

"I'm sorry Mina," I took a deep breath and sent the ice towards her. Her body disappeared in a shower of pixels. No scream, no blood.

"That wasn't hard, was it?"

"No, it wasn't."

Nightwing's P.O.V

"Approaching Peak District," I announced, landing the bio-ship near the base of the mountains. I jumped out of the ship meeting the league members and the team.

"Four groups, North, South, East, West. If you find them, make no moves before contacting the others."

"I don't think that's needed," Red Arrow pointed behind me.

I slowly turned around. A large light was beaming into the sky, "Never mind. Head towards the light."

All of us made our way towards the light anyway we knew how. When I reached the top of the hill I saw the source of the beaming light. A large metal machine was sitting beside an aged house.

"Batman, Blue Beetle, Kid Flash, Wonder Woman, and I will search for (H/n) in the machine. The rest take the house."

Our small team moved in towards the looming machine that screamed danger. That's where the light was coming from after all.

"Blue."

Blue shot down the front door, the last thing on our minds was caution, the first was (Y/n). As we walked along the empty hall I quickly looked at a computer for some information. This machine was being powered by (Y/n). It was powerful enough to take out the watchtower, with the league working full power to stop it.

"I've located (H/n)," Batman informed us, motioning at another room.

I pushed my way to the front, slowly opening the metal door. I don't know what I expected, (Y/n) strapped to a table, the life slowly-forcefully- being taken from her. I did not expect (Y/n) to be there, fire letting off a dangerous glow on her hand.

"Y- you're just another sim," she whispered. She looked to her right as if someone was talking to her. "I haven't had to do them yet! It's been all civilians!"

"We aren't a simulation," Wonder Woman said gently.

"Prove it."

"It's us Buena Maldad," Blue stepped forward. (Y/n)'s fire flicked, calming down. She looked to her right and nodded.

"That isn't enough!" She yelled, her fire blazing again. All of us took a step back. What else would we know that wasn't already known?

"I got it!" I stepped forward, "And at last see the light, and it's like the fog has lifted and at last I see the light, and it's like the world is new, and our lives have somehow shifted. All at once, everything is different, now that I'm with you."

She dropped her hand, the fire sizzling out. She jumped forward and hugged me, burying her head in my chest. Sobs overtook her frail figure. I pulled her closer to me, running my hand through her hair.

"We need to get her out of here," KF spoke up. (Y/n) wiped her face and nodded.

"Have you found Brain?" She questioned quietly.

"No, we searched only you room, you were our first priority." Batman answered.

When we got out of the machine the rest of the team and league were already waiting for us. They must have finished searching the house already.

"I'm so glad you're okay," Black Canary sighed in relief.

"While we were searching the house we found this," Superman stepped forward, handing and aged photograph in a slightly cracked frame.

"Who are they?" I asked.

In the picture there was a woman with long (H/c) hair and black eyes, a man with (E/c) eyes who seemed to be glowing, and a baby girl in the woman's arms, she had (E/c) eyes and a little bit of (H/c) hair.

"It's my family..." (Y/n) smiled, a tear falling down her face, "Thank you Uncle Super."

"Since we're giving things back," I put her necklace on from behind her.

"While I would hate to break up this reunion, we really need to leave."

(Y/n) started running up the mountainess hill. All of us followed her lead, making sure not to get too far behind. Our objective was reached. Time to go home.

FWOOM!

All of us whipped around at the loud noise. The machines light had grown wider, turning blood red.

"The machine has reached full power," KF pulled his thermal glasses down.

"You guys go, I charged it, now I destroy it," (Y/n) turned around and stepped closer to the machine.

"It's too dangerous. The radiation waves it's giving off is enough to kill anyone, including you."

"I'm going to stop it, I'm the only one that can. And you forget, I'm not just anyone."

"Wait!" I grabbed her arm, "I just got you back, I'm not going to lose you again! I can't...Please."

"I have to do this, for everyone." She whispered, she pulled my head down to hers, kissing me, for what I felt like was the last time, "I love you."

And she was gone. Running towards the machine again. I started to run after her before Batman held me back.

"She can do this," he assured. But I heard the worry in his voice, I saw the sadness in his eyes. He lost his parents, he lost Jason, he lost Rachel. He was about to lose (Y/n), his daughter in nearly every way.

Every second that began to tick by was another butterfly in my stomach. Minutes passed, and a swarm of them was inside me. It reached the ten minute mark when I heard (Y/n)'s gut wrenching scream.

"Let me go!" I yelled running forward. Superman held me back this time.

Bruce lowered his head and closed his eyes, all the girls came together and began hugging. The guys from the league closed their eyes, remaining silent. The guys from the team came together and hugged each other.

Heroes weren't supposed to cry, weren't supposed to lose, they weren't supposed to die. People saw us as invincible. But we aren't.

Here we are with Batman, trying in vain to hide the tears streaming down his face. Superman, struggling to hold a powerless person down because he lost the strength to hold them. The Flash Family moving as slowly as possible in hugging the team and league. The strongest women I have ever met, were sobbing, holding onto each other to make sure that they don't leave too. These moments, they went against everything people thought heroes were. But news flash, we're people too.

(Y/n) was family, we all loved her, she helped us, loved us, advised us. She was in every way, a part of every one of our families, a part of us.

"Guys, look," KF pointed towards the house, where the light became wider, then imploded.

Black ash began to fall around us all, it was like black snow to me. (Y/n) made a big sacrifice for us to win. We won. Sure, we stopped the villain, but all of us knew, it wasn't a real win. Not when we weren't going to return home with everyone.

"Flash," Batman pointed at the wreck.

"On it."

He ran towards the machine's remains to look for (H/n). Around thirty seconds later he came back, her limp body in his arms. We all held our breaths. There was a body, was there a pulse?

"Is she-"

"She's alive," Flash assured, we let out a sigh of relief, Flash checked her pulse. Her eyes shot open, filled with confusion.

"Who are you?" She asked Flash, then she turned to us, "Who are all of you?"
