Chapter 38 - CASE OPEN
Luna Morris
I'm so worried.
Clyde hasn't contacted me for three days, and it's been suffocating me. I kept biting my nails as I looked blankly at the TV. Daisy poked my arm, and I turned to her.
"Call him." She said without taking off her attention from the TV.
Ever since Christopher's death, he's been busy. I know he has to deal with many things related to the news. People were pointing their fingers at him for it, knowing that he was a part of the family and that he never had a good relationship with his brother.
But three days is too much. I'm worried that something will happen to him. On the other hand, my pride told me not to contact him.
Even though he had already told me about what happened but somehow, I still couldn't get over it.
I grabbed my phone and looked at his contact, debating whether to call him. I bit my bottom lip, looking at his number, hoping that I could summon him with it.
At the speed of light, Daisy pressed it. "Daisy!" I protested, and she chuckled, "Stop being a coward. You like the guy." She even pressed the speaker mode.
Clyde picked up on the first ring, "Miss me, Butterfly?"
I busted into tears that second. A feeling of relief filled my chest after worrying about him for the past few days, "Hey, what's wrong?" He asked, and I kept crying. Daisy decided to give me some privacy by going to my room.
"Luna, are you okay? I'll be there in 10 minutes, stay with me. Is everything okay?" He sounded so worried.
"Where are you?" I asked as I wiped my tears.
"I'm on my way to your apartment."
"Okay." I leaned my head back, frustrated for not seeing him. It's been three days, but I went crazy as if he left me for good.
Last night I cried and had a hard time sleeping. The day before the day, I didn't have any appetite. If it weren't for Daisy, I wouldn't eat anything.
"I miss you, Butterfly." All he did was say those four words, and I cried again. I tried to silence my voice, but I couldn't hold it anymore.
"Where were you? You didn't even call or text me for three days! I hate you!" I cried even louder.
"I'm sorry, Butterfly." He said, and I kept crying. I got up from the sofa and waited for him before the door. I could hear him honking people from the call, and he cursed under his breath a few times.
"I'm here." I heard his car door open, and he rushed up. I was waiting for him anxiously.
When he opened the door to my apartment, it felt like time had stopped. He pulled me into a hug, and I cried in his arms. He kissed me on the top of my head.
"I'm here. It's okay." He whispered. I hugged him tightly, and he caressed my back.
"Did you get nightmares again?" He asked, and I pulled away from him. He held me in place by my waist, and I shook my head.
"No."
"So you cried because you miss me?" He asked, chuckling, and I pulled him into a hug again. The door behind me opened, and I could feel Clyde nodding. Daisy went out, giving us privacy. She's just the best.
"I'm sorry for not letting you know," Clyde said as he caressed my back, assuring me he was not going anywhere. I pulled away and led him to the sofa, where the TV was still on. I glanced at it, wanting to turn it on, but the news came out.
Fred Ecclesias, English Billionaire, shut down all the private schools he owned and that he was divorcing his wife.
I froze briefly before finding the remote and turning the TV off.
"What happened for the last three days? You didn't go to London, right?" I asked after seeing the news, and Clyde shook his head.
"I didn't go to London. You tell me not to."
"Where did you go then? I know you told me you'd be busy, but-" I was out of words. Clyde looked at me like he was debating something inside his head.
"What? You look like you want to tell me something." He looked so suspicious.
"My family came here." My jaw dropped, and I put both hands covering my mouth. "What are they doing here?!"
"They pointed their fingers for Christopher's death, but I'll ensure they will never bother me again." He smiled, "Do you want to tell me why you won't let me go to London?" I gulped when he asked, and I pushed him gently.
"I can't, Clyde. I'm not ready yet."
"It's okay. So how about today we go out and have fun? Or maybe you want to stay inside?" I looked around the house and then checked the very sunny weather.
"Let's go out, but I don't want to go out looking like this. Do you mind waiting for me to shower and get ready?"
"Sure." I got into the shower right away. I dried myself quickly and put makeup on. I curled my hair, and I stared at my closet for a few minutes, thinking about what kind of outfit I should wear. I picked up my yellow summer dress and put on my white sneakers.
My phone rang, and it was my grandfather.
"Hello, grandfather." I answered it and put it on speaker while I put my earrings and perfume on.
"How are you, Luna?" His tone was so serious that it made me grab my phone.
"Is everything okay? You sound so concerned."
"I- I don't know how to tell you this, but your case was opened again." What? "What do you mean? How?" I was so confused.
Is this because Fred Ecclesias shuts down the school?
"I don't know exactly how, but they asked me if you will proceed with the case. They're asking your permission. If you want, we can proceed, but you have to come to London. If you don't, then they won't continue."
"How is it possible? That case was buried years ago." I sat on the edge of my bed.
"The person who decided to open the case again was Fred Ecclesias." I can't believe it. Why is it so hard to believe this?
"Not only that but Mara and Clement were hospitalized." I opened the door and found Clyde standing there, eavesdropping on my call.
"Okay, I'll let you know, grandfather." I ended the call and stared straight into his hazel eyes, "Proceed with the case, Butterfly. I want you to get the justice that you deserve by putting everyone involved in jail." It was enough for me to know Clyde was behind all of this.
"You know about them, don't you?" I asked, and he nodded, "Did you go to London for this?"
"No."
"What did you do to them?" I asked carefully.
"It's better for you not to know, Butterfly." And again, it was enough for me.
Something within me felt so glad that Clyde did this behind my back. If I knew he would do it, I would beg him not to. I wanted revenge, but I knew I couldn't do it with my own two hands. I don't want to feel the guilt of doing something bad.
Even though I want to kill them so badly, if I do it myself, I'll go insane.
"They will have endless punishment. You don't have to worry," Clyde said, and that's when I knew for sure that I was still indeed in love with this man. He will never fail to protect me even though he made a mistake once by leaving me. Everything he did was for my sake.
And I'm not sorry for it.
I threw my phone to the bed, locking my eyes on him as I slowly pulled down my dress straps, letting my dress fall to the ground, leaving me naked.
"Do you mind staying inside for today?" I asked and he took a step closer, "I'm not in the mood to go out anymore."
