"Duncan stop!" I said while I ran after him. The clouted noise of my heels resonated around the hall with a clashing echo. My breathing became heavy as my gown weighted on me.
"Duncan please!" I begged before my foot ceased to entwine itself on my gown. A small gasp escaped my lips, then the expected thump was heard as my body hit the floor. The tears clouded my vision as I looked up. My throat felt dry as I whispered his name again. "Duncan..".
Duncan had stopped. His body tensed and I could tell he wanted to turn around and check up on me but he didn't. Instead he just stood there, his back facing me.
"I didn't know!" I told him. My voice cracked as I swallowed. "It wasn't planned".
Ignoring my denial, Duncan asked, "Did you give yourself to me while being engaged? Was this some sick game between you two? to hurt my feelings and laugh about it later".
He whirled around.
His glare was like ice. A frosted dagger cutting into my skin. I stared into those bright blue eyes burning with rage, and my heart fell silent at his accusations.
"Answer me!" he roared.
"No", I responded, bringing myself back to my feet. "I had promised you we will be together. That, back there, was Cyan's doing. I had no clue he was going to do that at all. I was as much shocked as everyone who attended that party".
"So you didn't accept his proposal?".
My heart ached as I recall the look on Cyan's face when I told him no. It burned me, throbbed and tortured me. Signaling my brain to replay the scene in my mind like an echo. The nausea swirled recklessly in my empty stomach. I couldn't command my mouth to speak the single word Duncan was dying to hear. My soul was battered and so it didn't want me to say it. After a moment as I looked into Duncan's hopeful eyes while taking a deep breath in, the words flew, "No. I didn't accept his proposal".
"SIENNA!".
I frozed in place. I could only hear his and my heart, beating in our chests. The pain that overwhelmed us to the core, stopped us from becoming connected again.
I slowly turned around, my eyes glimmering with watery tears. "Cyan".
"What-what is this?". Cyan's brows creased, his eyes studying Duncan and I in confusion. A minute didn't pass before he figured it out. "You're with this-this creature? Right hand to Jax who keeps you inslave. Who claimed you and abused you against your will".
I stuttered as I try to come up with a good explanation. "Cyan I- you".
Cyan couldn't believe it as he sniggered.
Anger, pain and sadness intertwined reflecting on Cyan's eyes and on the tension of his muscles. His fists stood firmly at his side. The ice that was building up on his fists chinked as they continued to spread up his arm. His arms embracing every bit of it's beauty.
It grew like a crystal, sparkling so remarkably.
It reminded us just how lethal he was.
He faced the wall, pressing his fist against it. The power gave through and the wall was covered with ice so thick that it showed reflections as clear as a mirror. Then it cracked. A sign of his affliction.
"You rejected my proposal to be with this asshole". He pointed at Duncan, making it seem like he was worth nothing compare to him.
Duncan took a step forward. "You call me an asshole? Why don't you step up and prove you're better".
Cyan's jaw clamped tight, his teeth grinding. You could tell he wanted to do nothing more than to stake Duncan's heart. It would have giving him a great deal of satisfaction.
"Stop both of you!" I shouted, getting in between them and placing a hand against their chest. They glowered each other in full on hatred.
"Sienna, Duncan!". Adira's call reiterated through out the hall at the same time she speeded towards us. She stopped taking her breath as she leaned against the wall.
"Do you know how difficult it is to whoosh my way around these halls in these heels!". She lifted the bottom of her gown, removing her heels. "Ah much better".
"Sienna what you did back there was so unexpected. Cyan was-". Just as she lifted her face from the ground to look at us her eyes widen. "I- Oh Cyan".
Cyan crossed his arms as he raised an eyebrow, waiting on her to continue.
"Heh-well". She tittered trying her best to come up with something not related to the rejection everyone witnessed. "I have something very important to tell you. Well all of you matter of fact".
Adira received our full attention and Cyan's expression softened as he waited for her to continue. "Ugh- well". As she was about to speak Lars cut in.
"Guys!". We all looked at him as he jogged over to us. "You guys know no one pays attention to me. I may be smart and- and handsome but im no one in important so why would anyone give a damn about me, you know". His words trailed off so quickly.
I slightly smiled. Honestly I have no idea why wouldn't anyone notice him. He had the looks. If he was walking the streets of Chicago I can pretty sure promise you all heads would have turned.
"Get to the point" Duncan said, still feeling agitated.
"Right right. So I overheard some guards talking about heading out into the human streets with Jax in the lead".
Duncan, Cyan and I looked at each other in confusion.
"On a special mission" Lars added.
"And I quote" Adira said as she lifted her fingers. "I know Jax and when he goes out there. It's usually nothing good".
I noticed Duncan shift uneasily as he heard the news Lars and Adira brought us.
I deliberated what I was about to say next. "As you all know. My plan is coming through today at sunrise. I will be leaving to reunite myself with my family. Lars, Adira, Duncan" I said, looking at each one of them. "You all agreed to come with me and leave this place behind. But for now I can't have you Adira and Lars come with me just yet".
Their faces dropped like disappointed children. "But why?" They both asked.
"Because leaving all at once will bring suspicious. Besides I need you to be my eyes and ears. I want to know what is Jax up to".
They both nodded in agreement.
"Who's going to protect you on your way to your parents home?" Cyan asked.
"Duncan will. He is coming with me". I answered, placing my hand on Duncan's shoulder, feeling how tensed his muscles wear. I gave them a light squeezed to help him relax.
"You can't possibly trust this guy!". Cyan asserted. Shocked with my willingness to trust an assasin.
"You expect me to trust you then?" I asked with a grin.
"Yes!" He stated quickly.
"Well then, I forward you the invitation to join us as well if you please".
In a serious, low tone while creasing his eyebrows, Cyan said, "Good I accept your invitation".
"I expect both of you to be on your best behavior. No fighting allowed is that cleared?" I said as I narrowed my eyes at Cyan and Duncan.
"Very cleared".
"Understood".
"Good", I said with a gleeful smile."Let's first get off these gowns and suits and Duncan-" I said facing him. " Meet us at the exit gate and give us the signal when the coast is cleared. We all know the guards take about a 15 minute break before returning back to their post".
"And so-" I said turning to face Cyan. "We have less than 15 minutes to get our stuff and be out. Got it?".
He nodded.
"ALRIGHT! let's do this people- ugh vamps".
They all lightly chuckled.
Adira and I walked the other direction as she agreed to help me get my things from our room. The boys went the opposite direction.
My breathing stammered in my chest as we walked. I really hope we can pull this off.
