"Come on halfer!".
My eyes studied his face and body position. I was stuck in place. I didn't know what to do.
"Your heartbeat is beating extremely fast and your facial expression shows anger yet I don't see any action!".
His screaming is getting on my freaking nerves!
I swung a punch at him, aiming for his jaw but I failed miserably. My fist was caught by his huge hand. My eyes widen as I stared at his bittered face. Duncan once again shoved me back. This time, I went stumbling a few feet away from his standing ground.
"You need to move your hips and torso to generate power. Come here". Duncan pointed down in front of him.
I took at least 5 steps forward, glaring up at him at all times.
"Breathing out, or exhaling will help loosen your muscles right before contact".
I rolled my eyes.
"Are you listening!".
"Yes!".
"Don't you dare shout back at me! This is my game room and I'm the only one who can yell. You got that initiate!".
I nodded at him.
"Now, you lean slightly and tuck your head so that your head is out of the way from counterattack".
I inclined my head, ear touching my shoulder.
"What the heck are you doing? You look stupid".
"I-you said".
"No, I didn't say! Listen carefully initiate. Listen!".
I tilted my head back.
"I said lean and tuck, lean and tuck".
Duncan placed his hands behind his back and turned his head slightly to the side. The right side of his face was exposed for me to punch.
"I'll let you give me a punch just this time".
"Really?", I asked.
"If you're going to aim, it's best to aim for the right places - places where you'll inflict the most pain".
"Chin, temple, solar plexus, ribs".
"And your nuts right? Don't mind if I aim there?", I contemplated.
"Don't you dare", he warned me with a stern look.
I tittered.
"Ready halfer?".
"I'm more than ready".
I got in position. You deserve this one. I slammed my knuckles into Duncan's jaw. His head didn't even move vaguely. Me? Well, I was holding unto my hand, biting my lips. I was holding in a cry I wanted to let out. My knuckles ached in pain.
"What the hell! Are you made of stone!".
All I can hear is Duncan's laugh.
"Not funny! You knew it would hurt".
"It shouldn't have".
I raised an eyebrow quizzically. "What's that supposed to mean?".
"Your Human side is mostly in control. So your punches are weak and hitting my rock-solid face-" he winked at me, "hurt as if you just hit the concrete floor".
"Oh".
"Well let me see". Duncan extended his hand. I carefully placed my hand on his. "Ouch, that's gonna be bruised for a few days".
"No duh Sherlock".
I looked down at our hands. His felt like sandpaper or perhaps stone, rough and unfinished. It suited him though. His hands held mine for no more than another second then were pulled away and thrust back into his pant's pocket.
He cleared his throat and looked in the direction the two men were standing. Watching our every move. Their skin was so pale that if I reached out, it seemed I would only graze air. As if they were nothing but ghosts.
"Let me get an ice pack for that", he said.
"Sure, thanks", I said not moving my eyes from the two men.
Duncan took his leave, leaving me there with the two snitches.
I looked away to avoid any more contact. I had realized Cyan was nowhere in sight. I sighed deeply. What's up with this guy? Super weird.
"Here you go".
I blinked a few times. "Oh wow thanks".
I took the icepack and pressed it gently on my hand. Duncan was looking over my head at the entrance. I watched as he nodded. Confused I quickly turned around. Another guy has entered, gesturing at Duncan with his head.
I think I've seen that guy before, at the bar with Duncan. Must be another assassin.
Duncan placed a hand on my shoulder. "I have to go, I'll see you tomorrow for more training". Realizing the men were still there, he retrieved his hand.
"Ugh sure okay. See you later".
With no hesitation, Duncan followed the man outside. The two ghostly-looking vamps stared at me for a few seconds before leaving as well. I was left all alone.
Thirsty, I took a bottle that was left aside and continue to the entrance. There was no reason to stay here. I opened the bottle and gulped it down. Suddenly the lights started to flicker on and off. I shrugged, "must be one of those days the power comes and goes". Settling the bottle cap back on the bottle, I placed my hand on the door.
"Sienna", I heard my name being whispered. Next, someone's or something's presence was felt behind me. Removing my hand from the door, I turned around.
"Cyan what are-".
He placed his palm on my cheek. I closed my eyes ready to feel that cold sensation I felt when he pushed me aside, but instead it was warm just like that day I couldn't keep control of my urge for blood.
I opened my eyes to see his staring deeply back at mine. His eyes became glazed with a glassy layer of tears. My heart beat faster than its design specs should allow. There was a tenseness he wasn't even trying to mask. The unmoving gaze was accompanied by deliberate slow breathing like he was fighting something back and losing.
Cyan looked away for a second before he shifted his eyes back at me. There was no trace of tears. His eyes were cold. I had become his enemy once again. My heart sank.
He placed a string of hair behind my ear, pressing his forehead against mine. I closed my eyes. We were less than two inches away from our lips to touch. I was fighting every urge not to press my lips against his. And I know he was too.
"If you only knew", he said after another second.
I opened my eyes to meet his. Eyes grey as the ash in the dying fire.
"Knew what?", I softly whispered. Ugh how much I want to kiss you I said in my mind.
He caresses my cheek, moving his hand to my red hair. Giving a few twirls to the strands. His touch felt to have knocked the wind right out of me. I shut my eyes, swallowing, "Cyan". I waited for a second to hear his response but I didn't. I opened my eyes to reveal nothing but the emptiness of the room and lights flickering on and off. I bolted out of the room, looking to see if he was anywhere in the hall. He had disappeared in just a blink of my eyes.
"If you only knew?", I repeated. What can that mean?
