The Blood of a Warrior (Part 1)

Disclaimer: There will be some violence in this chapter you may skip it if you are sensitive.

The sun is now setting causing the sky to light up with fiery reds, oranges and yellows. Joseph Ney is peacefully staring at the sunrise. Suddenly he hears footsteps behind him along with a calm voice.

Marshal Ney: What is with you and staring out into the middle of nowhere?
Joseph Ney: I like watching the sunset father. I sometimes wonder if it will be the last I see.
Marshal Ney: We all wonder if we will survive this war, Joseph. Some of us will others won't. The strong survive the weak die.
Joseph Ney: Indeed.
Marshal Ney: You have the blood of a warrior. You have always had that fire in you.

Joseph Ney: You inspired me to fight father. I did want to be a soldier like you when I was younger.
Marshal Ney: I have a mission that I wish for you to come on with me soon Joseph. A night mission maybe the British won't see us.
Joseph Ney: Indeed, I will come with you father. May I bring the Englishman with us?
Marshal Ney: Fine you may bring your friend as long as he doesn't cause any trouble.
Joseph Ney: What is this mission for father?

Marshal Ney calmly sighs to himself. Then he starts speaking in a calm voice.

Marshal Ney: I heard what you and your friend did to the Duke. You tried to poison him and kill him.
Joseph Ney: You want to kill him?
Marshal Ney: No that wouldn't be useful to us at all Joseph.
Joseph Ney: What do you mean father?
Marshal Ney: The Duke is better off alive. Because I plan to capture him.

Joseph Ney: How would capturing him be of any use to us? He wouldn't tell us anything. He would probably end up dead before telling us anything.
Marshal Ney: Possibly but the British won't be able to do much without their glorious commander.
Joseph Ney: Do you think that they will surrender once we capture the Duke?
Marshal Ney: That is something I'm unsure about. It's a possibility but it's unlikely that it will happen.
Joseph Ney: Alright, I will try to make sure that the Englishman doesn't kill him. Because it seems he wants to kill him.
Marshal Ney: Good Joseph. We don't need the Englishman killing the Duke. Now I suggest you go prepare yourself and tell your friend to do the same.

Joseph Ney calmly walks off to his tent. A few minutes later he enters his tent and notices Henry Wellesley sitting calmly on a wooden stool. Joseph Ney starts speaking in a calm yet serious voice.

Joseph Ney: Henry we are going on another mission so I suggest you prepare yourself.
Henry Wellesley: What kind of mission Joseph?
Joseph Ney: My father plans to capture your brother.
Henry Wellesley: Why not just kill him!? He hurt me, Joseph!
Joseph Ney: We are not going to kill him, Henry. We need him alive. He might give us information.

Henry Wellesley: I doubt that he would give us anything if we manage to succeed with this mission. He's not some random soldier who would probably give up anything to live Joseph.
Joseph Ney: I understand that Henry. But he still might give us something. So we need him alive. No killing him Henry do you understand?
Henry Wellesley: Fine I won't kill him, Joseph.
Joseph Ney: Good Henry.

Henry Wellesley calmly gets up and then he exits the tent with Joseph. They both begin walking around the camp. A few minutes later they notice Marshal Ney, King Joachim Murat and a small group of twenty men. Marshal Ney starts speaking in a calm yet serious voice.

Marshal Ney: We are ready for the mission. We will go through the forest and take cover on a nearby hill. We must try not to get spotted. We do not want the British to see us while we try to attempt to capture the Duke. Onwards men!

Marshal Ney, King Joachim Murat, Joseph Ney, Henry Wellesley and the twenty soldiers begin marching through the forest. Meanwhile, in the British camp, Wellington is calmly reading over his papers. While Kitty Wellesley is lying in bed. She starts speaking in a calm and slightly cheerful voice.

Kitty Wellesley: Arthur I think that you should go to bed early.
Wellington: Why do you say that my love?
Kitty Wellesley: You need to rest. Your injuries need to heal. Resting helps with that Arthur.
Wellington: I understand that my dear. I shall get some rest soon.
Kitty Wellesley: Sleeping also might help with your stress.

Wellington: Your right Kitty.
Kitty Wellesley: Come to bed, my love.
Wellington: Alright, I will Kitty.

Wellington gently puts down the report that he is reading. He then calmly gets up from his seat and takes off his coat and places it on the back of his seat. Then he sits back in his seat and carefully unties his boots and places them underneath his desk. Wellington then gets up and calmly walks over to Kitty and lies down beside her.

He then gently kisses her on the lips. They both cheerfully smile at each other, and then they both start talking in a warm and romantic voice.

Kitty Wellesley: I care deeply about you and your health Arthur.
Wellington: I care about you the same way Kitty my love.
Kitty Wellesley: I will always care about you and I will always love you. Until we part in death.
Wellington: I will do the same for you, Kitty. As I deeply love you.

Kitty Wellesley begins passionately kissing Wellington on the lips. A couple of minutes later Wellington gently breaks the kiss and smiles a little at Kitty. He then starts speaking in a cheerful voice.

Wellington: Let's get some sleep shall we my love?
Kitty Wellesley: Yes my dear Arthur let's get some rest. You most definitely need it you have been working a lot today. I can also tell that you have been under a lot of stress so resting might help you.
Wellington: Yes I understand my love.
Kitty Wellesley: Good night Arthur.
Wellington: Good night my dear Kitty.

Wellington gently kisses Kitty Wellesley on the cheek. Wellington gently grabs Kitty Wellesley's hand. They both eventually close their eyes and fall asleep while still holding each other's hands.

Meanwhile on the outskirts of the camp under a nearby tree. Lawrence is gazing out at the nearby forest. Suddenly he hears footsteps near him then he quickly grabs his rifle and prepares to fire it. He then notices Benedict Fraser standing in front of him and calmly lowers his rifle. Benedict Fraser starts speaking in a calm yet serious voice.

Benedict Fraser: Seen anything Lawrence?
Lawrence: No French soldiers yet sir. It seems that they aren't planning to attack us tonight sir.
Benedict Fraser: After what happened last time I suggest that we keep an eye out for any of those French bastards and the traitor.
Lawrence: Yes sir I will keep an eye out for them.
Benedict Fraser: Good Lawrence. We don't want them sneaking into the camp again.

Lawrence: Indeed sir we do not want that.
Benedict Fraser: Good night Lawrence and keep an eye out.
Lawrence: Yes sir good night.

Benedict Fraser calmly walks off and Lawrence continues keeping watch. A few minutes later he hears footsteps behind him. He then comes out from behind the tree and prepares to fire his rifle. But when he notices Victor Nyland he lowers his rifle. Victor Nyland starts speaking in a calm voice.

Victor Nyland: Why are you up so late Lawrence?
Lawrence: I have to help protect the camp from the French. After what happened last time they decided to up security.
Victor Nyland: What happened last time?
Lawrence: Not many people know what happened last time. But apparently, someone tried to kill Lord Wellington.
Victor Nyland: Well that is understandable why more protection is needed. It seems his brother and his brother's new friend enjoys trying to kill him.

Lawrence: It seems that they aren't that great at doing what they want to do.
Victor Nyland: Well it makes sense that they aren't doing that good at doing much. Because it seems one of them has gone a bit crazy and the other one is smart but also a bit crazy too.
Lawrence: Well that does make sense. Two crazy people probably don't really make good plans.
Victor Nyland: Dont forget to get some sleep, Lawrence.
Lawrence: I won't Victor.
Victor Nyland: Good night Lawrence.
Lawrence: Good night Victor.

Victor Nyland calmly walks off and Lawrence then continues keeping watch. Meanwhile an hour later on the hill near the British camp, the French scouting party are taking cover behind some trees. While others are taking cover on the back of the slope. Suddenly Henry Wellesley starts calmly whispering to Marshal Ney who is standing beside him.

Henry Wellesley: So why are we just standing here?
Marshal Ney: I'm trying to find a way to sneak in. We can't get caught remember?
Henry Wellesley: I could help you sneak in. I know my way around the British camp.
Marshal Ney: Well, it seems that is very useful. But it also seems that the British have increased security after what you and Joseph did last time. They have made it more difficult for us.
Henry Wellesley: Indeed they have. But I'm sure that there is still a way to sneak in.

Marshal Ney: We have to find a way in without attracting any attention. Otherwise, we would most definitely end up dead.
Henry Wellesley: How pleasant so we could all possibly end up dead.
Marshal Ney: Well, it is war so yes.
Henry Wellesley: After we capture my brother may I have a chat with the bastard?
Marshal Ney: If we succeed in capturing him yes you may have a chat with him. But don't you dare think about trying to free him if we do capture him.
Henry Wellesley: I would never do that. He deserves to suffer for what he has made me go through.

Marshal Ney smirks a little bit then he starts speaking in a calm yet slightly cheerful voice.

Marshal Ney: Your so vengeful aren't you?
Henry Wellesley: I have been stuck in his shadow my whole life. He has been seen as the hero and I'm just a nobody General who has lost almost everything.
Marshal Ney: You will be greater than your brother after this war. I can tell that you want to be remembered for something.
Henry Wellesley: Yes I just want to be remembered for something. That's all I want.
Marshal Ney: My son wants the same. He also wants to be remembered for something. He also wants the rank of Marshal.

Henry Wellesley: I was stuck in my brother's shadow my whole life. That's why I want him dead.
Marshal Ney: You will have your chance to kill him after we get the information we need out of him. But for now, you will not kill him.
Henry Wellesley: Fine I will help capture the pathetic bastard.
Marshal Ney: Fine you will tie him up. I don't want you to do anything else. Because you seem like you want to possibly beat him to death.
Henry Wellesley: Alright, I will tie him up.

Henry Wellesley calmly walks off to go and find Joseph. Marshal Ney grabs his spyglass off his belt and begins gazing down at the British camp. Joachim Murat suddenly walks over and starts speaking in a calm and quiet voice.

Joachim Murat: When do we begin the mission? We can't stand here all night just waiting around.
Marshal Ney: Patience Your Majesty. I know that you like rushing into battle. But now is not the time to do that this is a stealth mission, not an actual battle.
Joachim Murat: Fine I will just wait. Although I would prefer if we were actually doing something, Marshal. I don't like stealth missions that much because all you do is sit around and do nothing most of the time.
Marshal Ney: Of course, you don't like stealth missions. You have the blood of a damn revolutionary. You prefer action and slaughtering people.

Joachim Murat: I helped get our glorious Emperor in power. So be grateful for my revolutionary spirit Marshal.
Marshal Ney: That is true and I'm grateful for that. Because France is a glorious nation. With a glorious ruler.
Joachim Murat: Long live our glorious Empire.

Marshal Ney puts his spyglass back on his belt and he takes a deep and calming breath. Joachim Murat continues speaking in a calm and quiet voice.

Joachim Murat: Nervous?
Marshal Ney: I'm not nervous. Don't assume such things about me.
Joachim Murat: Fine I won't assume things like that about you, Marshal.
Marshal Ney: I think it's time to go and try to capture the Duke. I'm allowing the Englishman to tie him up. I don't want him to do anything else because he might beat the Duke to death.
Joachim Murat: Would he really kill his brother?
Marshal Ney: He is vengeful. He is out for blood. Specifically, the blood of his brother.

Joachim Murat: What should I do Marshal?
Marshal Ney: Just make sure that he doesn't kill the Duke.
Joachim Murat: I shall do that then.
Marshal Ney: Don't kill the Duke either.
Joachim Murat: I won't kill him.
Marshal Ney: Right let's go men!

Marshal Ney, Joachim Murat, Henry Wellesley, Joseph Ney and the rest of the soldiers begin hastily walking down the hill. A few minutes later bullets start flying past them. Marshal Ney starts speaking in a commanding tone.

Marshal Ney: Fire back men! Fire back!

The other French soldiers start firing back and Marshal Ney continues speaking in a commanding tone.

Marshal Ney: Joseph go try and find the Duke!
Joseph Ney: Yes sir!

Joseph Ney and Henry Wellesley begin hastily running through the camp. They both start running in between the tents to avoid gunfire. Meanwhile, in Wellington's tent, Wellington starts to slowly wake up as he hears a lot of gunfire and yelling. He then quickly gets up and walks over to his desk. Grabbing his coat he promptly buttons it up. Then he sits down at his desk and grabs his boots and hastily ties them up.

Getting up from his seat Wellington then notices that Kitty Wellesley has woken up from all the fighting. Kitty Wellesley nervously stares at Wellington. She then starts speaking in a nervous voice.

Kitty Wellesley: Arthur what is going on?
Wellington: I don't know Kitty but I'm going to investigate it. It might just be a small skirmish.
Kitty Wellesley: Please be careful Arthur. I don't want you to get hurt.
Wellington: I won't get hurt and I promise that you won't lose me, my love.
Kitty Wellesley: Please I care about you, Arthur.

Wellington: I understand that Kitty and I will return to you.
Kitty Wellesley: Good Arthur.
Wellington: I won't be long Kitty I promise.

Wellington calmly exits his tent and begins walking in the direction of the fighting. He puts his hand on the hilt of his sabre preparing to fight. Suddenly he hears running behind him and he turns around and immediately draws his sabre. Joseph Ney stops and draws his sabre. Joseph Ney starts speaking in a calm yet serious voice.

Joseph Ney: I suggest you lower your sword, My Lord.
Wellington: I want to know why you are here!
Joseph Ney: We are here for you. You British bastard!
Wellington: I won't tell you anything. Besides they would kill you before you get me out of this camp.
Joseph Ney: I understand that you probably won't tell us anything right away. But I'm sure that you would tell us something soon.

Suddenly someone violently tries to cover Wellington's mouth with a cloth from behind. But Wellington elbows the man in the chest causing the man to stop trying to cover Wellington's mouth. Wellington then turns around and notices that the man is Joachim Murat. Joachim Murat starts speaking in a slightly irritated tone.

Joachim Murat: You bastard!
Wellington: Heard that one before. But not from a man like you.
Joachim Murat: You filthy British bastard!
Wellington: Really with the rudeness.

Wellington goes to punch Joachim Murat in the face. But Joachim Murat blocks the punch and then he kicks Wellington in the chest. Causing Wellington to fall to the ground and drop his sabre. Wellington tries to get up but he realises that he is surrounded. Wellington tries to grab his sword but Joseph Ney kicks it away. Joseph Ney smirks and he starts speaking in a mocking tone.

Joseph Ney: Oh, I seriously thought that the British commander would have put up a fight.
Wellington: You won't win this war.
Joseph Ney: Of course, you would say that before we bring you back to the French camp.
Wellington: Trust me you won't be getting anything out of this.
Joseph Ney: Oh yes we will eventually. You will have to give up information eventually. Henry tie him up, please.

Henry Wellesley calmly walks over to Wellington. He then kneels down and violently slaps Wellington across the face. Then he roughly grabs Wellington's arm and pulls him off the ground. Henry then starts tying Wellington's hands together. Joseph Ney suddenly hears someone running behind him. He turns around and Lawrence violently punches him in the face. Joseph Ney starts speaking in an irritated tone.

Joseph Ney: You bloody British bastard.
Lawrence: You will release my commander!
Joseph Ney: I will not do anything like that.
Lawrence: You are a filthy French bastard!
Joseph Ney: Dont be so ridiculous.

Lawrence then kicks Joseph in the stomach causing Joseph to stumble backwards. Joseph goes to tackle Lawrence but Lawrence moves out of the way. Lawrence then turns around and grabs his rifle and aims it at Joseph. Lawrence starts speaking in a tone full of annoyance.

Lawrence: I suggest you release my commander or I will kill you!
Joseph Ney: Unfortunately that is not up to me at all.
Lawrence: You French bastard!
Joseph Ney: Go ahead kill me.

Henry Wellesley finishes tying Wellington's hands together. Then he looks over and notices Lawrence aiming his rifle at Joseph. Henry runs over and tackles Lawrence to the ground. Henry Wellesley starts speaking in a tone full of hatred.

Henry Wellesley: Don't you dare hurt him, you bastard! I will kill you!
Joseph Ney: Henry we have to go.
Henry Wellesley: You are lucky that I don't just kill you. You bastard!
Lawrence: You will be killed eventually, you traitorous bastard.
Henry Wellesley: I highly doubt that you filthy bastard!
Joseph Ney: Henry we have to go now just leave that bastard!
Henry Wellesley: Fine let's go then.

Henry Wellesley gets up off Lawrence and he kicks him in the side. Joseph Ney, Henry Wellesley and Joachim Murat begin escorting Wellington back to the French camp. A few minutes later the camp has gone quiet. Lawrence slowly gets up off the ground and brushes off his uniform. He then glances down at the ground in front of him and notices a sabre shining in the moonlight.

Lawrence calmly walks over to the sabre and gently picks it up and feels the weight of it in his hand. Suddenly he hears some footsteps behind him along with a slightly concerned voice.

Lord Uxbridge: What happened Lawrence!?
Lawrence: They took him, sir. I'm going to go get him back.
Lord Uxbridge: Took who Lieutenant!?
Lawrence: Lord Wellington sir.
Lord Uxbridge: Did you try and do anything Lieutenant!?
Lawrence: I tried to stop them, sir. But there were too many of them. I will go get him back sir.

Lord Uxbridge: You will not do it right now Lawrence. And you most definitely will not do it alone!
Lawrence: But we need to get him back sir!
Lord Uxbridge: We can't do anything right now Lawrence! We can't cause a panic!
Lawrence: Fine sir. But I shall get him back tomorrow. I shall rescue Lord Wellington.
Lord Uxbridge: Good night Lawrence.
Lawrence: Good night sir.

Lord Uxbridge walks away still feeling extremely concerned. Lawrence raises the sabre up to the moonlight and notices the name, Arthur Wellesley engraved onto the sabre. After a couple of minutes, Lawrence lowers the sabre and begins walking back to the Prussian camp. Meanwhile, an hour later in the French camp, Wellington is sitting on a wooden stool staring at the ground.

*Wellington in thought*
How am I going to get out of this one?

I don't even have my sabre on me and a pistol is of no use right now as my hands are tied.

But it would be of use once I do escape.

Honestly, what do they think they are going to get out of me?

I'm not going to tell them anything about what I'm planning.

I need to find a way out of this somehow.

A few minutes later Henry Wellesley enters the tent and smirks at Wellington. Wellington continues staring at the ground ignoring Henry. Henry Wellesley walks up to Wellington and violently slaps him across the side of the face. Henry Wellesley starts speaking in a slightly cheerful and mocking tone.

Henry Wellesley: I will finally get to enjoy the glory I want as I have now captured you. After we get the information out of you I shall kill you. I will get all the glory I wished I had before!
Wellington: You will never get anything out of me Henry. Nor will your friend.
Henry Wellesley: Im not afraid to hurt you, Arthur. Just to get some information out of you. I could easily kill you right now if I wished.

Henry Wellesley grabs a dagger off his belt and points at Wellington's throat. Henry calmly sighs to himself and slowly moves the dagger away from Wellington and puts it back on his belt. Henry Wellesley continues speaking in a slightly cheerful and mocking tone.

Henry Wellesley: Oh I wish that I could kill you right now. But I can't because apparently, you could have useful information.
Wellington: I won't give you anything you will just have to kill me.
Henry Wellesley: You will eventually give us something.
Wellington: I doubt that Henry.
Henry Wellesley: You will give us something Arthur otherwise you will die. Now I suggest you get some sleep. Good night.

Henry Wellesley calmly exits the tent leaving Wellington alone. Meanwhile, in the Prussian camp, Lawrence is sitting on a log in front of a blazing fire. He is still holding the sabre and staring at the name engraved on it. Lawrence suddenly hears footsteps behind him and then he notices Frederick sitting down beside him. Frederick stares at the sabre and starts speaking in a slightly concerned tone.

Frederick: Is he dead Lawrence?
Lawrence: No I saw them take Lord Wellington away. I tried to stop them but I couldn't.
Frederick: What are you planning to do Lawrence?
Lawrence: I'm going to save Lord Wellington. I'm going to do it alone so I don't cause any panic.
Frederick: Lawrence are you sure that's a good idea?

Lawrence: I honestly don't know Your Majesty. But I don't think that anyone else should know what is going on with Lord Wellington. It would cause I panic. I need to do this alone.
Frederick: You could get yourself killed Lawrence and I don't want that to happen.
Lawrence: I won't get myself killed Your Majesty. I know what I have to do. I need to save my commander from possible death.
Frederick: It's a risky mission, Lawrence.
Lawrence: I understand that Your Majesty.

Frederick quietly sighs to himself and he then starts speaking in a calm voice.

Frederick: Get some rest, Lawrence. It's late and you have a big day ahead of you tomorrow.
Lawrence: Yes Your Majesty. Good night Your Majesty.
Frederick: Good night Lawrence.

Lawrence gets up off the log and calmly walks off. Frederick continues staring at the blazing fire.
