Love and Lies

It is currently 10:30 am at Lord Mornington's castle. Richard Wellesley is standing in the doorway to the dining hall. While William Wellesley is sitting at the table reading the newspaper. William Wellesley then puts his newspaper down and looks at Richard who is reading a letter. William starts speaking in a calm and slightly confused voice.

William Wellesley: Richard...You have been staring at that letter for half an hour. I don't understand what is so interesting about that letter that you have to stare at it for so long. I normally only read my letters once or twice and then I just either keep them or just burn them.
Richard Wellesley: I have been lied to...
William Wellesley: What do you mean?
Richard Wellesley: Henry said he wouldn't cause trouble! He lied to me, William!
William Wellesley: Well that's expected from Henry. Can't really trust him.
Richard Wellesley: I trusted him, William!

William Wellesley: You trusted a politician! You can't really trust politicians some of them are liars.
Richard Wellesley: William I don't care what he is! He is still my brother and he lied to me! He probably lied to you as well about things!
William Wellesley: Who knows what he's done...
Richard Wellesley: That's what I'm worried about...He could have caused another major scandal!
William Wellesley: Well luckily no one in London has found out yet if he's done something.

Richard Wellesley sighs to himself out of frustration. Then he gently stuffs the letter back in his pocket. Richard starts speaking in a calm and slightly irritated voice.

Richard Wellesley: It's only a matter of time William...
William Wellesley: Why did you trust him?
Richard Wellesley: Because I care about him! I've always cared about all of you. I don't know if I can trust Henry anymore...
William Wellesley: I've barely trusted the annoying bastard...
Richard Wellesley: Stop calling him a bastard no wonder he hates you!
William Wellesley: Sorry...
Richard Wellesley: I need time to think.

Richard Wellesley walks off out of annoyance. Walking down the hallway he eventually gets to a mahogany door. Gently opening the door Richard then enters the room.

Gently closing the door behind himself. Then he calmly walks over to his desk which is made out of rosewood. Sitting down at his desk he opens a drawer full of blank pieces of paper. Grabbing a piece of paper and closing the drawer he then places the sheet of paper on his desk. Richard then grabs his quill and begins writing.

July 8th 1815

My dear brother

Hello, Arthur, I will gladly give you some advice about your situation. Don't worry I haven't told William and I didn't tell Henry before he left. Also, I have already disposed of the letter.

Arthur, you aren't crazy. It's normal to have nightmares we all have them. This could be happening because you are extremely worried about your wife and children. You worry too much Arthur and it's not good for you.

I promise you that your wife and children are safe Arthur. No harm will come to them.

Also the whole situation with you seeing these things that aren't there. Are possibly due to you not taking care of yourself properly. You should take care of yourself Arthur and stop worrying so much.

I'm glad that you accept my invitation to the dinner party. Also, of course, you can bring your wife and children. I would love to see your boys. I also want you to meet some of my children. I'm sure that they would love to see their aunt and uncle along with their two younger cousins.

Also, why wouldn't I be proud of you Arthur? You have come a long way from being that silly and foolish young man to being a proper gentleman.

Also, please tell me what is going on with Henry I am concerned about him. He lied to me about not causing trouble and I'm worried that he has caused another scandal.

Your dear brother
Richard Wellesley

Richard gently folds the letter up and gently puts it in his pocket. He then sighs out of slight frustration.

*Richard Wellesley in thought*

Why does Henry have to always cause trouble?..

I hope that Arthur is alright. He is going through a lot of stress.

He needs to take care of himself as well.

I'm also hoping that Henry is alright. I do still care for him even though he does cause trouble.

I don't understand why William is so rude to Henry. It honestly feels like I'm the only one who cares about everyone.

Well, I know that Arthur cares about Henry...I'm not sure if Henry cares about Arthur.

William, it seems only cares about himself...

But I care about all of them. I always will.

A couple of minutes later Richard Wellesley notices that the door handle to his study is moving slightly. Richard starts speaking in a calm voice.

Richard Wellesley: Who's there?
Charles: It's us, uncle Richard.
Richard Wellesley: Alright, I will come let you in.

Richard Wellesley calmly gets up and walks over to the door. Gently opening the door he looks down and smiles cheerfully at the two boys. Richard starts speaking in a cheerful voice.

Richard Wellesley: Why are you two here?
Charles: We wanted to see you, uncle.
Arthur: Yes we wanted to see you.
Richard Wellesley: Where is your mother?
Charles: Mummy is with uncle William.
Richard Wellesley: Alright, I better go see your mother. Come on you two.

Richard Wellesley calmly walks down the hallway with Charles and Arthur happily skipping along beside him. A couple of minutes later they eventually reach the dining hall.

Upon entering the dining hall Richard notices Kitty and William sitting at the dining table. William starts speaking in a calm and pleasant voice.

William Wellesley: Richard.
Richard Wellesley: Yes?
William Wellesley: It seems that Kitty Wellesley wants to speak to you in private.
Richard Wellesley: Alright...Well William you take care of the children.
William Wellesley: Why me?
Richard Wellesley: Because you are the only one who isn't busy at the moment. If Henry was here I would make him do it but he isn't.
William Wellesley: Fine...

William Wellesley calmly gets out of his seat and walks out into the hallway. William starts speaking in a pleasant voice.

William Wellesley: Come let us go outside children.
Arthur: Come on Charles let's go play tag.
Charles: But you always win. Because I can't catch you.

William Wellesley begins calmly walking down the hallway with the two boys happily skipping beside him. Richard Wellesley calmly enters the room and walks over to the seat opposite Kitty.

He sits down and begins speaking in a calm and pleasant voice.

Richard Wellesley: What do you need to talk to me about?
Kitty Wellesley: I'm worried about my husband.
Richard Wellesley: Well he is a soldier and he is risking his life to stop this war. So that is understandable that you are worried about him.
Kitty Wellesley: I have been thinking about something...
Richard Wellesley: What have you been thinking about?
Kitty Wellesley: I want to go see him...

Richard Wellesley: War is dangerous and it isn't a place for a woman like you.
Kitty Wellesley: Richard I don't care I want to go see him.
Richard Wellesley: But your children. Who will take care of them? You should be there for your boys when Arthur can't.
Kitty Wellesley: I need to see him, Richard...
Richard Wellesley: I know that you want to see him...
Kitty Wellesley: Will you take care of the boys for me?

Richard Wellesley quietly sighs to himself and he starts speaking in a slightly serious voice.

Richard Wellesley: What if something happens to you?
Kitty Wellesley: What do you mean?
Richard Wellesley: I don't think that this is a good idea. I'm worried that the boys could lose their mother. I don't want to have to see another one of my brother's grief stricken again.
Kitty Wellesley: They won't lose me, Richard...
Richard Wellesley: I still think that this isn't a good idea. You have children that should be getting the love and care from their mother. Please don't do this. Your boys need you and Arthur wants you to be safe.

Kitty Wellesley: Arthur will protect me...
Richard Wellesley: It's still dangerous even if he does choose to protect you...Please for your safety and the sake of your children, husband and the rest of your family stay in London.

Suddenly Kitty Wellesley gets up out of her seat and exits the room. Richard Wellesley sighs and gets out of his seat and quickly follows Kitty. Richard starts speaking in a slightly concerned tone.

Richard Wellesley: Where are you going, Kitty?
Kitty Wellesley: I'm going to see my husband whether you like it or not!
Richard Wellesley: This is not a good idea.
Kitty Wellesley: Look I feel like my husband needs me I'm going to go see him! I don't care what you say, Richard.

Suddenly Corey awkwardly walks over and Richard and Kitty both stop and stare at him. Corey starts speaking in a calm and slightly awkward tone.

Corey: Is this the wrong time for me to come collect your letter, My Lord?
Richard Wellesley: No...It's fine Corey. You can take mine and my brother's letter to Arthur.
Corey: Yes...My Lord.

Corey awkwardly walks over to Richard Wellesley. Richard gently grabs two letters out of his pocket and hands them to Corey who puts them in his pocket. Then Corey swiftly walks away to avoid the awkward situation.

Richard sighs out of slight frustration and he starts speaking in a calm but slightly frustrated tone.

Richard Wellesley: I just want you to be safe for the sake of my brother Arthur who is also your husband.
Kitty Wellesley: I will be safe Richard...Nothing will happen to me.
Richard Wellesley: War is unpredictable and you must understand that.
Kitty Wellesley: I do understand that now I'm going to go see my husband...

Kitty Wellesley calmly walks off leaving Richard Wellesley awkwardly standing there feeling quite frustrated. A couple of minutes later outside in the courtyard where the two boys are playing a game of tag.

Kitty walks out of the castle and begins walking over to the carriage. The two boys notice this and run up to Kitty. Charles starts speaking in a joyful tone.

Charles: Mummy are we going home?
Kitty Wellesley: You two have to stay here mummy has to go somewhere.
Arthur: Can't we come mummy?
Kitty Wellesley: No you two have to stay here. I promise that I will be back soon.
Charles: Dad said he would be home soon and he is taking forever...
Arthur: Please don't take forever mummy...
Kitty Wellesley: I will try not to take too long boys. Now don't cause too much trouble for uncle William and uncle Richard alright.

Arthur: We won't mummy.
Charles: But where is uncle Henry mummy?
Kitty Wellesley: I don't know Charles he is possibly busy.
Charles: It seems that all the grown ups are busy all the time. How do they not get bored?
Arthur: Maybe they don't get bored Charles.
Charles: How does someone not get bored?
Kitty Wellesley: I have to go now alright boys.

Charles and Arthur gently hug Kitty Wellesley. Kitty starts speaking in a calm and pleasant voice.

Kitty Wellesley: Goodbye my dear boys.
Charles: Bye mummy.
Arthur: Goodbye mummy.

Kitty Wellesley then gets into the carriage. The two boys begin waving at the carriage as it rides off into the distance.

A couple of minutes later Richard Wellesley comes outside and walks over to William Wellesley. William awkwardly stares at Richard. William starts speaking in a calm and slightly awkward tone.

William Wellesley: Who is going to look after them?
Richard Wellesley: I will look after the children.
William Wellesley: Why you?
Richard Wellesley: Because unlike you I don't get drunk as often. Also, you have your duties in the government to take care of.
William Wellesley: Fine for once you have a good point.
Richard Wellesley: I hope that both of their parents return. I don't want them to lose their parents. They are only young.

William Wellesley: You were only 21 when you became the 2nd Earl of Mornington.
Richard Wellesley: Yes but the one who is to take on the duty of being the 2nd Duke of Wellington is still too young.
William Wellesley: I think that the oldest one out of the boys is also called Arthur.
Richard Wellesley: Well, I also named my oldest child after myself. It's a normal thing, William.
William Wellesley: Didn't you also call one of your children Henry?

Richard silently and awkwardly stares at William. William starts speaking in a calm and serious voice.

William Wellesley: Are you still worried about what Henry has possibly done?
Richard Wellesley: He wanted to kill Lord Uxbridge before he left and I'm worried that he's possibly done that.
William Wellesley: I doubt that he has done that I'm sure that Arthur would have mentioned it to you.
Richard Wellesley: That's true William...But I'm still worried about what Henry has possibly done.
William Wellesley: What could a foolish imbecile like him do?
Richard Wellesley: I don't know...Also enough William! Learn some respect.

William Wellesley: I am sorry. But unlike you, I had to always earn everyone's respect. But you. You didn't have to do much at all to earn respect because of your title. You are lucky that everyone will respect you because of your title.
Richard Wellesley: Just get inside I will look after the children.
William Wellesley: I know what you are afraid of brother...
Richard Wellesley: I'm not afraid. Now go inside.

William Wellesley calmly walks inside and Richard Wellesley continues watching the two boys happily playing with each other.

Meanwhile an hour later at the harbour in London. Horatio Nelson is peacefully gazing out at the harbour. Suddenly he hears footsteps along with a calm voice behind him.

Josiah Nelson: Afternoon father.
Horatio Nelson: How are you feeling Josiah?
Josiah Nelson: Better.
Horatio Nelson: Promise me that you won't get yourself killed.
Josiah Nelson: Look I'm fine and at least I'm not dead.
Horatio Nelson: You need to stop risking your life and doing such stupid actions. I want you to follow orders and stop being so foolish.

Josiah Nelson: I'm not foolish.
Horatio Nelson: You keep almost getting yourself killed! You need to stop risking your life. You are my only son and I love you.
Josiah Nelson: I love you to father...

Josiah Nelson gently hugs Horatio Nelson. This causes Horatio Nelson to smile and gently stroke Josiah Nelson's hair. Thomas Hardy who is about to get off the Victory notices this and stops and smiles.

A couple of minutes later Thomas Hardy happily walks over to them. Hardy starts speaking in a pleasant voice.

Thomas Hardy: Glad to see that you are feeling better Josiah.
Josiah Nelson: Yes.
Thomas Hardy: Although you should really be a bit more careful. You could get yourself killed.
Josiah Nelson: I won't Hardy...
Thomas Hardy: Alright. Just reminding you to not get yourself killed.

Josiah Nelson: Father?
Horatio Nelson: Yes Josiah?
Josiah Nelson: May I go to Köinigsberg with Marcel?
Horatio Nelson: Josiah...
Josiah Nelson: Please father I'm alright now and I'm sure that nothing bad will happen to me.
Horatio Nelson: Fine I will allow it.
Josiah Nelson: Thank you, father.

A few minutes later Josiah Nelson happily walks over to a ship called the HMS Noble. He notices Commodore Edison Hawkins and Captain Marcel Thompson having a drink of tea. Josiah Nelson happily walks over to the pair.

When Marcel notices Josiah walking over he smiles and starts speaking in a cheerful tone.

Marcel Thompson: I'm glad that you have recovered Josiah.
Josiah Nelson: It took a while but I'm fine.
Edison Hawkins: What happened to you, Captain?
Josiah Nelson: A bloody Frenchman sliced me open and almost killed me. I luckily killed the bastard before he could finish me.
Edison Hawkins: I see. Well, I have seen worse. A lot worse than people being sliced open...I've seen people lose their limbs or get their heads blown off...

Josiah Nelson: Oh, I see...
Edison Hawkins: Why are you here Captain?
Josiah Nelson: I wish to come with you on the journey to Köinigsberg sir.
Edison Hawkins: Do you have orders?
Josiah Nelson: I have my father's permission sir.
Edison Hawkins: Alright you may come with us, Captain.

A couple of minutes later Horatio Nelson calmly approaches them. Horatio Nelson starts speaking in a calm and slightly serious voice.

Horatio Nelson: Commodore Hawkins, please make sure my boy stays safe.
Edison Hawkins: Don't worry Admiral your boy will be safe with me.
Horatio Nelson: Well, I guess I will see you in a few days, Josiah. Stay safe Josiah.
Josiah Nelson: Don't worry father I will be safe. I will see you in a few days.

Josiah Nelson walks up to his father and gives him a gentle hug. Horatio Nelson smiles cheerfully and he starts speaking in a cheerful voice.

Horatio Nelson: You make me proud Josiah and I will always love and care about you. So promise me that you will stay safe on this mission.
Josiah Nelson: I will father.
Horatio Nelson: Good. Now good luck.
Josiah Nelson: Thank you, father.

Horatio Nelson walks off and Marcel Thompson starts speaking in a calm and pleasant voice.

Marcel Thompson: I'm glad that you can come with us, Josiah.
Josiah Nelson: I'm also glad.

Suddenly a carriage stops nearby and Kitty Wellesley gets out. Then she calmly walks over to the three men. Edison Hawkins starts speaking in a calm and slightly confused voice.

Edison Hawkins: What is it miss?
Kitty Wellesley: I need a way to get to my husband sir.
Edison Hawkins: Where is your husband?
Kitty Wellesley: My husband is going to fight the French...He is the commander of the British Army sir.
Edison Hawkins: I see. So why do you need to see him?
Kitty Wellesley: I don't think that's any of your business.
Edison Hawkins: I see. Well, you can come with us we are going to Köinigsberg. It is not too far from the British and Prussian camps according to the messengers. Speaking of the messengers where are they?

Marcel Thompson quietly sighs to himself out of impatience. Then he starts speaking in a slightly irritated tone.

Marcel Thompson: I think that they are late again.
Edison Hawkins: Be patient Captain Thompson. It's good to have some patience.
Kitty Wellesley: May I go on your ship?
Edison Hawkins: Yes you may. I shall come with you.

Edison Hawkins and Kitty Wellesley both get on the ship. A few minutes later, the messengers arrive and they both carefully get off their horses.

They both calmly walk over with their horses. Corey starts speaking in a calm and pleasant voice.

Corey: Sorry that we are late.
Marcel Thompson: We accept your apology, Corey.
Corey: Thank you, sir. Also, who is this?
Marcel Thompson: This is Captain Josiah Nelson he will be joining us on this journey with his father's permission.
Corey: I see. I'm guessing that your father is Admiral Horatio Nelson?
Josiah Nelson: You are correct Corey.

Marcel Thompson: I'll help you two get your horses on board. Josiah, I suggest you also get on board as well. I think that we are leaving soon since everyone is here. Also, I might need your help with some things.
Josiah Nelson: Alright. I will gladly help you.

Marcel Thompson begins helping Corey and Stanley carefully get their horses onto the ship. Josiah Nelson also helps Marcel Thompson with the horses.

Meanwhile at the bow of the ship Kitty Wellesley is looking out at the harbour. Edison Hawkins walks up to Kitty and he starts speaking in a calm and serious voice.

Edison Hawkins: You know that war is dangerous Ma'am.
Kitty Wellesley: I'm not afraid. I just want to see my husband that's all I want. I just want to know if he is alright.
Edison Hawkins: I'm sure that he is alright. You will be able to see him soon. The messengers will guide you to the British and Prussian camps safely.
Kitty Wellesley: I hope that he is alright...
Edison Hawkins: Whenever I go out to sea my wife wishes the same for me. I know how you feel and I understand that you are worried. But I'm sure that your husband is alright.

A few minutes later Horatio Nelson is calmly looking out at the harbour as the HMS Noble sails off into the distance. Thomas Hardy starts speaking in a calm and pleasant voice.

Thomas Hardy: You alright sir?
Horatio Nelson: Every time he goes somewhere without me he always causes trouble.
Thomas Hardy: I can tell that he takes after you, sir.
Horatio Nelson: Since when did I cause trouble, Hardy?
Thomas Hardy: Well you mostly cause trouble for the French. I still can't believe that the bastards tried to invade England.
Horatio Nelson: Well, it seems that for once they tried to not be so foolish with their plans. But it still failed.
Thomas Hardy: I'm sure that your son won't cause trouble this time sir.

Horatio Nelson: He better not...
Thomas Hardy: I'm sure that someday he will be a great man like you, sir.
Horatio Nelson: Yes if he stops causing trouble and stops trying to get himself killed.
Thomas Hardy: He wants glory, sir.
Horatio Nelson: He's going to get himself killed if he keeps being a glory seeker.
Thomas Hardy: Not everyone who has gained a lot of glory has been killed, sir.
Horatio Nelson: Your right Hardy.
Thomas Hardy: Shall we go for some tea sir?
Horatio Nelson: Yes Hardy.

Horatio Nelson and Thomas Hardy happily get on the Victory and go to have some tea. Meanwhile, at Lord Mornington's castle, the two boys are playing with toy soldiers at the dining table. Arthur starts speaking in a cheerful voice.

Arthur: Charles do you think we will someday be able to wear hats like these tiny people?
Charles: I want to wear a top hat.
Arthur: It probably won't fit you, Charles it would probably make you look silly.
Charles: I want to wear a hat like Mummy.
Arthur: You want to look like a girl Charles?
Charles: No!

Arthur: You would look so funny in a dress Charles.
Charles: So would you. I bet you would look much more silly than me.
Arthur: No I wouldn't.

Charles pokes his tongue out and then laughs. Arthur then starts laughing as well. Richard Wellesley then enters the room and he stares at the two laughing boys. Richard Wellesley starts speaking in a calm and pleasant voice.

Richard Wellesley: What's so funny boys?
Arthur: Charles made a funny face!
Charles: I did.
Arthur: Do it again Charles!
Charles: Okay!

Charles pokes his tongue out again and then they both start laughing again. Richard Wellesley smiles and he starts speaking in a cheerful voice.

Richard Wellesley: Lunch will be ready in an hour alright you two?
Arthur: Alright uncle Richard.
Charles: Yay!

Meanwhile on the HMS Noble Kitty Wellesley is calmly staring out at the endless ocean ahead. Suddenly she hears some footsteps behind her along with a calm and pleasant voice.

Corey: I didn't know that you were here. Why are you here?
Kitty Wellesley: I'm going to see my husband.
Corey: Who is your husband?
Kitty Wellesley: The Duke is my husband.
Corey: The Duke of Wellington is your husband?
Kitty Wellesley: Yes and I will need someone to help me get to him safely.

Corey: My friend Stanley and I will gladly help you get to your husband.
Kitty Wellesley: Your name is Corey.
Corey: Yes.
Kitty Wellesley: My husband calls me Kitty and I don't mind. But most people call me Catherine. I don't mind either name.
Corey: Alright. Well, I promise that you will get to your husband safely.
Kitty Wellesley: Thank you, Corey.

Kitty Wellesley and Corey continue staring out at the peaceful and endless ocean ahead of them. Feeling the calm breeze blow through their hair.
