A Problematic Reunion

Disclaimer: This chapter will have a lot of violence and you may skip this chapter if you are sensitive.

It is currently 7:15 pm and Wellington is calmly reading some papers. Suddenly Lord Uxbridge enters the tent and he starts speaking in a calm but serious voice.

Lord Uxbridge: Sir the scouts have found something.
Wellington: What did they find Uxbridge?
Lord Uxbridge: Well it seems they found our two messengers along with what they think is a General escorting them.
Wellington: What is a General doing escorting the messengers and why hasn't he been with the rest of the Army?
Lord Uxbridge: I'm asking the same question, sir.
Wellington: How far away from the camp are they?
Lord Uxbridge: According to the scouts they are about 30 minutes away sir.

Wellington: Well, I shall greet this General myself.
Lord Uxbridge: Yes sir.
Wellington: You may leave now Uxbridge.
Lord Uxbridge: Yes sir.

Lord Uxbridge calmly exits the tent and Wellington continues his work.

*Wellington in thought*

Why is a random General escorting the messengers?

Why was this random General not with the rest of the Army?

I just don't want any more trouble.

I'm tired and stressed and I have had enough.

Im also wondering who this General is...

Just concentrate on your work Arthur.

30 minutes later, the messengers and Henry Wellesley enter the British camp. Henry Wellesley suddenly notices Lord Uxbridge talking with Colonel Fraser. Henry Wellesley gets off his horse and he begins angrily marching over along with yelling in a commanding tone.

Henry Wellesley: You bloody twat!
Lord Uxbridge: Excuse me, sir, who the devil are you? Also, how dare you call me that sir!
Henry Wellesley: I'm General Henry Wellesley. I'm sure you remember very well who I am because you stole my wife! You fucking bastard! You ruined my life!

Henry Wellesley violently slaps Lord Uxbridge across the face almost knocking him over. Colonel Fraser awkwardly backs off. Lord Uxbridge starts speaking in an irritated tone.

Lord Uxbridge: How dare you hit a superior officer, sir! I will report you to Lord Wellington!
Henry Wellesley: You ruined everything! I have lost everything because of you!
Lord Uxbridge: If you want to fight we will not do it here sir!
Henry Wellesley: You just want to do that because you don't want the men to see me beat you to a pulp you stupid bastard! You are scared to be seen as weak!

Lord Uxbridge suddenly punches Henry Wellesley in the face. This causes Henry Wellesley to lose his balance and fall backwards onto the ground. Colonel Fraser continues awkwardly watching the fight and Lieutenant Colonel Fraser gives Colonel Fraser a cup of gin.

Henry Wellesley: You stole away my love! I hate you! You stupid bastard.

Henry Wellesley gets up and then tackles Lord Uxbridge to the ground and then punches him in the face.

Henry Wellesley: Stupid weak bastard! I don't understand why my wife would love you! You can't even fight!

Lord Uxbridge violently shoves Henry Wellesley off him. They both get up and Lord Uxbridge quickly kicks Henry Wellesley in the stomach. Causing Henry Wellesley to stumble backwards. Henry Wellesley then grabs his sabre out of his sheath.

Henry Wellesley: I'm not afraid to hurt you for what you did to me all those years ago!
Lord Uxbridge: We are not doing this here!
Henry Wellesley: Fine we won't do it here. Even though I do prefer to show how weak you are you bastard.

Henry Wellesley and Lord Uxbridge leave the camp and begin walking toward the forest. Lennox and Benedict Fraser awkwardly stare at each other out of pure confusion. Benedict Fraser starts speaking in a calm but slightly concerned tone.

Benedict Fraser: Should I go tell Lord Wellington?
Lennox Fraser: Is it really a good idea to tell him about his angry brother who is going to beat the crap out of Lord Uxbridge?
Benedict Fraser: I would think that is a good idea.
Lennox Fraser: Well go do it then...

Benedict Fraser promptly walks off to Wellington's tent. A couple of minutes later he arrives at Wellington's tent and immediately enters. Wellington looks up at Benedict Fraser and starts speaking in a slightly confused tone.

Wellington: Is everything alright Colonel?
Benedict Fraser: There is a problem sir...
Wellington: What kind of problem Colonel and is it urgent?
Benedict Fraser: Well you see this General who was escorting the messengers came into our camp...
Wellington: Yes well what's the problem Colonel?
Benedict Fraser: It seems that he has decided to have a duel with Lord Uxbridge sir...Over something very personal. Something to do with the General's ex-wife sir.
Wellington: Where did they go, Colonel? I shall go sort this out myself.
Benedict Fraser: They were heading in the direction of the nearby river, sir.
Wellington: Thank you, Colonel you may go back to your duties I will go settle this problem myself.
Benedict Fraser: Yes sir.

Benedict Fraser calmly exits the tent and Wellington calmly gets out of his seat and exits the tent. Meanwhile, in the forest near the edge of the river Henry Wellesley and Lord Uxbridge are standing opposite each other.

With them both having their sabres drawn. Henry Wellesley has his hand tightly gripping the hilt of his sabre out of rage. While Lord Uxbridge is calmly holding his sabre but still firmly gripping the hilt.

Henry Wellesley starts speaking in an enraged tone.

Henry Wellesley: Did you really think that you would be let off lightly for what you have caused! You bloody twat! You should be glad that I don't ram this sword into your heart. But I want a fair duel. Let's start then shall we you bloody bastard.

Henry Wellesley violently swings his sabre and Lord Uxbridge quickly blocks it. Henry Wellesley starts speaking in a threatening tone.

Henry Wellesley: I will kill you for what you have done you, bloody bastard!

Meanwhile, on the nearby plains, Wellington is hastily marching towards the forest. Suddenly he hears someone running behind him so he stops and turns around. Lieutenant Colonel Fraser starts speaking in a calm and pleasant tone.

Lennox Fraser: May I come with you, sir?
Wellington: Well, I guess...Just in case it's a rouge General and I might need protection.
Lennox Fraser: Thank you, sir.
Wellington: Why do you have two rifles with you?
Lennox Fraser: My cousin told me to look after it for him sir.
Wellington: I see...
Lennox Fraser: I promise that I'm not lying, sir.
Wellington: Good.

Lennox Fraser: Do you want to hold one in case you need to defend yourself, sir? Trust me it's very good for smacking people over the head with I have done it many times to some poor unfortunate French bastards.
Wellington: I'm sure that I will be fine...
Lennox Fraser: It's similar to using a musket except it's a better shot unless you are bad at shooting. But I don't doubt your aim, sir.
Wellington: Fine...But I'm not going to be beating anyone over the head with it.
Lennox Fraser: Now let's go sort out this General shall we sir!
Wellington: You will not be doing anything to him unless I need help Lieutenant Colonel.
Lennox Fraser: Yes sir!

Lennox Fraser gives Wellington one of the rifles. They both begin promptly marching towards the forest. A few minutes later they arrive at the forest and they hear the sound of swords clashing.

Wellington calmly walks out into the clearing where the river is. Lieutenant Colonel Fraser calmly follows behind him. Wellington aims the rifle at the sky and then he fires it and the duel immediately stops. Then he starts yelling in a very commanding voice.

Wellington: What in God's name is going on here!?
Henry Wellesley: Oh hello dear brother who doesn't seem to care about me anymore!
Wellington: Henry! Why are you here and why were you duelling Lord Uxbridge!?
Henry Wellesley: Do you seriously not remember what this bastard did!?
Wellington: I do remember that Henry! But I didn't expect you to start a duel over it!

Lord Uxbridge awkwardly puts his sabre away Henry Wellesley also does the same. Henry turns around and glares at Wellington and he also raises his voice.

Henry Wellesley: Well it seems that you don't remember what happened! You replaced me as second in command with this stupid pathetic twat! The same twat who had an affair with my now ex-wife!
Wellington: Henry you know not to have duels and you also know to not strike a superior officer! You should be glad that I have enough mercy to not have you punished!

Henry Wellesley approaches Wellington and glares directly into his eyes.

Henry Wellesley: Wouldn't you do the same if you found out if your precious Kitty was doing the same thing as my wife did.
Wellington: No I wouldn't Henry...Because Kitty wouldn't do that!
Henry Wellesley: Do you care about me, Arthur?
Wellington: Of course, I do Henry why wouldn't I?

Henry Wellesley goes to slap Wellington in the face. But Wellington quickly drops the rifle and grabs Henry Wellesley's wrist. Wellington smells the alcohol in Henry's breath. Wellington starts speaking in a slightly calm voice.

Wellington: Calm yourself, Henry...You are clearly drunk. Go lie down or something.

Wellington gently lets go of Henry Wellesley's wrist. Suddenly Henry punches Wellington in the face hard enough to knock him onto the ground.

*Wellington in thought*

Forgot that Henry doesn't like to play fair.

Why didn't I see that coming?..

I'm honestly not in the mood for fighting.

I just need to do something to stop this madness.

Wellington: Henry do you really want to do this the hard way?
Henry Wellesley: It would honestly be better if you didn't interfere.

Wellington calmly gets to his feet and dusts off his uniform. Henry Wellesley starts speaking in a slightly irritated tone.

Henry Wellesley: Why did you decide to apologise for this stupid twat?
Wellington: Because I thought that it would be the right thing to do.
Henry Wellesley: He should be the one apologising, not you Arthur! He is the one who caused the problem, not you!
Wellington: He is my friend Henry and I have the right to apologise for him.
Henry Wellesley: Do you seriously apologise for all your friend's problems even if they upset your family! This is ridiculous Arthur and it's absolutely stupid!
Wellington: Henry I do as I wish I can't force people to apologise!

Henry Wellesley suddenly tackles Wellington onto the ground. Then Henry violently slaps Wellington across the face. Henry starts speaking in an annoyed tone.

Henry Wellesley: I was there for you when Kitty rejected you! You weren't there for me when my wife left me! No, you decide to go to bloody Spain and Portugal to fight the French. You didn't let me go to Spain and Portugal instead you replaced me with this twat. You fucking bastard Arthur!
Wellington: Henry! You do not disrespect me.
Henry Wellesley: Do I look like I care!?
Wellington: Henry...
Henry Wellesley: Don't Henry me!
Wellington: Enough!

Wellington shoves Henry Wellesley off of himself. Then he gets up and brushes the dust off of his uniform. Wellington then draws his sabre and he starts speaking in a calm tone.

Wellington: You are coming back to the camp with me Henry.
Henry Wellesley: Really you are going to let this twat get away with accepting to duel me, Arthur!

Henry Wellesley draws his sabre and violently swings it and Wellington instantly blocks it with his sabre. Wellington starts speaking in a calm tone that has a slight hint of annoyance to it.

Wellington: Henry I am not going to fight you!
Henry Wellesley: Do you seriously let people get away with things Arthur! Would you really allow this twat to get away with accepting a duel!?

Wellington tries to knock Henry Wellesley's sword out of his hand. But he doesn't succeed in doing so. Henry then starts speaking in a frustrated tone.

Henry Wellesley: Honestly, it is absolutely absurd that you would allow this twat to get away with this Arthur!
Wellington: Henry if you don't stop this madness I will not be afraid to punish you!
Henry Wellesley: You wouldn't dare to punish me!

Henry Wellesley hastily swings his sabre again and it manages to lightly cut Wellington's left cheek. Wellington immediately backs off and Lieutenant Colonel Fraser promptly runs over. Wellington starts speaking in a furious voice.

Wellington: How dare you strike me, Henry!
Henry Wellesley: You deserved it for the bastard you have been!
Lennox Fraser: No one calls Lord Wellington a bastard!
Henry Wellesley: I can say what I want he is my brother.
Lennox Fraser: Would you really disrespect your own family sir?

*Wellington in thought*

How dare he strike me...

Henry wouldn't dare kill me, would he?

Why am I questioning that!

He wouldn't kill me.

I just want this to stop...

I just want to go back to the camp and read a letter from Kitty...

I want to make sure that she is alright.

Wellington: Enough Henry! You can either come to the camp or just stay here! But either way, I don't want to speak to you right now!
Henry Wellesley: Arthur...
Wellington: No I don't want to talk Henry...

Wellington puts his sabre in his sheath. Then he begins marching back to the camp while holding back tears of frustration and sadness. Suddenly he hears someone running up to him. Then he notices Lieutenant Colonel Fraser marching beside him.

Lieutenant Colonel Fraser starts speaking in a slightly concerned tone.

Lennox Fraser: Sir...are you alright?
Wellington: No I'm not...I need time to myself, Lieutenant Colonel...
Lennox Fraser: I understand sir.
Wellington: I suggest you go back and make sure that my brother isn't causing trouble. I also suggest that you bring Lord Uxbridge back to the camp. If he wishes to speak to me tell him that I will speak to him later.
Lennox Fraser: Yes sir.

Lennox Fraser begins marching back towards the forest and Wellington continues marching back to the camp. A few minutes later, Wellington enters his tent and sits down at his desk. He feels the tears starting to slowly run down his face.

A couple of minutes later Corey enters the tent and he stops and stares at Wellington out of shock and concern. Corey starts speaking in a very worried tone.

Corey: Is this the wrong time for me to be here sir?
Wellington: I'm fine Corey...I just need time to myself.
Corey: I'm guessing that it didn't go well between you and your brother?
Wellington: No...
Corey: Sir are you going to forgive him?
Wellington: I don't know...
Corey: Are you sure that you are alright? You seem to be quite upset sir.
Wellington: I'm fine...
Corey: Sir...you are not fine.

Wellington: Corey get me a drink. I have absolutely destroyed my voice...
Corey: Speaking of drinks it seems that your brother bought you some beer and some vodka. I don't know where he got the vodka from.
Wellington: Just go get me a drink, Corey, please.
Corey: Yes sir.

Corey calmly exits the tent and Colonel Fraser calmly enters the tent and he stares at Wellington with concern. Colonel Fraser starts speaking in a calm voice.

Benedict Fraser: Sir...Your bleeding.
Wellington: I'm use to almost being killed. But not by my own brother.
Benedict Fraser: Jesus Christ...
Wellington: I honestly don't know what to say about this whole situation.
Benedict Fraser: Well, I would feel the same way. Although I don't know what it's like almost being killed by my own family. Because Lennox would never kill me he is like a brother to me. Although he can be a bastard sometimes. But he would never go to the extent of killing me.
Wellington: That's understandable...
Benedict Fraser: Do you need the doctor sir?
Wellington: I'm fine it's not that bad.

Benedict Fraser: You also sound like you have been yelling a lot, sir. Although I do yell a lot. But mostly at the troublemakers sometimes I yell at Lennox if he's being a bastard. But I don't normally yell to the point where I almost lose my voice.
Wellington: Trust me, I'm fine.
Benedict Fraser: You don't sound fine sir.
Wellington: I'm fine Colonel I need time to myself.
Benedict Fraser: Alright sir I understand.

Colonel Fraser calmly exits the tent. A couple of minutes later Corey comes back with the bottle of beer and the bottle of vodka. Corey starts speaking in a slightly calmer tone.

Corey: Here are some drinks sir. I also have four letters for you, sir.
Wellington: Thank you, Corey.

Corey gently places the two bottles on Wellington's desk. Then he gently grabs the four letters out of his pocket and places them on the desk. Wellington starts speaking in a calm voice.

Wellington: You may leave now Corey.
Corey: Yes sir. Good night sir.
Wellington: Good night Corey.

Corey calmly leaves the tent and Wellington stares at the small pile of letters.

*Wellington in thought*

I will read them later.

I need to finish my work for the day.

Also who wanted me to have vodka?

I'm not sure what to do about Henry.

He hurt me...

He possibly wanted to kill me...

No...Henry wouldn't kill me he would never forgive himself for that.

I still can't believe he did what he did.

What are Richard and William going to say? They will definitely be wondering why I have a scar on my face.

I can't lie to Richard or William. Richard would definitely be able to tell that I'm lying. I don't know about William. But I wouldn't dare to lie to them.

Also, what is Kitty going to say...

Just continue your work, Arthur...

You need to finish your work.

Wellington grabs an important paper from the stack of papers and begins carefully reading it. A few hours later it is now 10:30 pm. Wellington grabs one of the letters and gently unfolds it and starts reading it.

June 28th 1815

My dear friend

Hello, Arthur good news your letter has made it to England. Don't worry I didn't open it.

But there was a problem with the letter getting here. But don't be concerned about it we dealt with it.

It seems that the French wanted to capture the messenger and get information out of him to figure out where your Army is.

Because the French we're planning to send 30,000 men to reinforce their Army. But since we dealt with their attempt at capturing the messenger they will hopefully no longer be able to land reinforcements.

But if they do attempt this again which they possibly will. I suggest sending an escort or some sort of protection with the messenger.

Again don't worry Wellesley your wife and children are safe.

Your dear friend
Horatio Nelson

Wellington gently folds the letter back up and puts it aside. He then grabs the next letter and places it in front of himself.

*Wellington in thought*

That's a lot of reinforcements...

We would be outnumbered by about 10,000 if they managed to land those troops.

This news is still concerning. They could try and find out where our Army is differently other than capturing the messenger.

But I'm glad it's been dealt with. But I will still be aware of that.

I'm also glad that my dear Kitty is safe.

Speaking of Kitty I wonder what she wrote to me...

Wellington gently unfolds the letter and begins reading it.

June 29th 1815

My dearest Arthur

I also miss your care and affection towards me. Even though you are a very serious man Arthur you are still very caring and affectionate. The children also miss you. They miss having fun with you even though they do indeed get up to a lot of mischief.

I did tell them that you will hopefully be home soon. They are glad that you will be home soon to spend as much time as they want with you. I'm also glad that you will be home soon. I'm sure that once this war is over we will be able to spend as much time together as a family as we want.

You may go run for Prime Minister if you wish to Arthur. If you decide that you want to be Prime Minister I will support your decision. I will always support your decision either way. I also understand if you think that it will be too stressful for you. Because being Prime Minister is probably a very big duty to deal with. But if you go through with it and you decide to become Prime Minister. I will always be there to help you through it.

Please take care, Arthur. Also, don't worry too much. I'm alright and our children are well. I'm sure you heard about the attack on London. But again don't worry nothing happened to us.

I love you and I wish for you to come back to me unharmed.

Your loving and caring wife
Kitty Wellesley.

Wellington gently folds up the letter and puts the letter aside. He feels the tears of joy forming in his eyes.

*Wellington in thought*

I love her so much...

This was such a beautiful letter.

I'm glad that she is alright.

I'm glad that my boys are alright.

I'm glad that she will accept either decision if I decide to be Prime Minister or not.

Wellington grabs the next letter. Unfolding the letter he begins happily reading it.

June 30th 1815

My dear brother

Hello, Arthur, I understand why you haven't written to me in a while. Everyone knows that there is a war going on and that you are the man leading the British Army to victory.

Yes, I have heard about people possibly wanting you to be Prime Minister. William showed it to me in a newspaper. It's probably big news in all of England maybe in all of Britain.

I understand if the war is stressing you out and that you might not want more stress added on top of that. Remember if you need advice Arthur you may send me a letter or just tell me personally. Also, I think if you do decide to become Prime Minister that you would be a great one. I do not doubt that Arthur.

Also no you didn't tell me that you earned the title of 1st Duke of Wellington. I learnt that from William and him and Henry rubbed it in my face a bit. Basically, because you outrank me now. But I'm sure that you won't boss me around and I will still call you Arthur even though you do outrank me.

May we have a small dinner party and a toast to congratulate you on your new title and hopefully your victory when you return home?

Also, I am most definitely proud of you Arthur. You have come a long way from being that young foolish boy to now becoming a great commander and a Duke.

Your dear brother
Richard Wellesley

Wellington calmly folds up the letter and puts it aside. Then he grabs the final letter and places it in front of himself.

*Wellington in thought*

I guess I should now send that letter to Richard...Since he says that I can ask him for advice if I need to.

I'm glad that he is proud of me...Even though I was definitely a foolish boy once.

But I have changed and definitely learnt my lesson.

He thinks that I would be a great Prime Minister...

Would I really be a great Prime Minister?

Gently unfolding the final letter Wellington begins calmly reading it.

June 30th 1815

My dear brother

Hello, Arthur, I understand why you haven't written to me in a while. You are busy with the war and I know what it's like to be a busy man. I'm a politician after all.

Yes, I have heard about people wanting you to become the next Prime Minister. It's been in the newspapers for a while and well yes some of my so called politician friends as you call them talk about you possibly becoming the next Prime Minister.

I understand that you are stressed being in a war is stressful and being the commander of the Army is probably even more stressful. Being a politician can also be stressful at times and being the Prime Minister is probably even more stressful than being a regular politician. You could run for Prime Minister if you wish it's your decision, not mine Arthur. If you do decide to run for Prime Minister I'm sure the Tories would love to have you.

If you do ever need any political advice Arthur you may ask me. I will always be willing to give you some advice on politics.

Congratulations on earning such a title, Arthur. I'm sure that you already know that Richard wants to hold a small dinner party to congratulate you on earning your title.

Yes, I am proud of you even though you did a lot of foolish things in the past. But I can tell that you have learnt your lesson and you are now a great man Arthur.

Your dear brother
William Wellesley

Wellington gently folds the letter back up and puts it aside.

*Wellington in thought*

Of course, William would understand my stressful situation right now.

It's also interesting that the Tories would like me...

I'm glad that William will be able to give me political advice if I do become Prime Minister...I will definitely be needing it.

I don't understand why Richard wants to hold a dinner party...I don't really like parties that much...But fine I will go. I might bring Kitty and the boys along.

At least William is proud of me as well.

I guess I should do a bit more work before I go to sleep...

Wellington gently grabs some more of his paperwork from the stack of papers. Then he begins carefully reading it. An hour later it is now 11:45 pm and Wellington is lying in bed awake calmly staring at the top of his tent which is gently blowing in the wind.

Suddenly Henry Wellesley enters the tent and awkwardly stares at Wellington. Wellington starts speaking in a slightly tired voice which also still hasn't recovered from him yelling.

Wellington: Henry I'm trying to sleep...Why are you here?
Henry Wellesley: I...I want to talk to you...
Wellington: I don't want to talk Henry. I'm tired and besides, I have wrecked my voice.
Henry Wellesley: Please Arthur...
Wellington: No Henry. Let me rest...I'm tired and I need to rest. I will try to talk to you tomorrow if I can. Now goodnight go get some sleep.
Henry Wellesley: Yes Arthur...

Henry Wellesley calmly and quietly exits the tent. Then Wellington gently closes his eyes and drifts off into a deep and peaceful sleep.

To be Continued...
