( 00. ) THE LIFE OF CAIUS VOLTS

Caius Volts had led a lonely life. Parentless at the age of five and orphaned at the age of eight; at a young age he was left with no one to turn to and nowhere to go. For two years he survived on his own. He stayed in a shelter their district had built for other orphaned kids such as himself. He didn't often go hungry as there was always plenty of food left to spare and other people were kind enough to give the children their leftovers, and other things they didn't need nor want anymore. However, no one was kind enough to take any of the children in, although no one could blame them. It wasn't smart to grow attached to someone in the times they lived in, where their loved ones could be dead in the blink of an eye. Better to mourn someone you barely knew than a child you took in as your own.

That all changed when he met Katrina Adler at the age of ten. The young girl, nine years old at the time, was a very kind, generous and selfless soul. She always stopped by the shelter on her way to and from school and also on the weekends. Katrina, or Kitty as the young children liked to call her, would play with the kids, also giving them food and the things her and her sisters had grown out of. She had seemed to take a particular liking to Caius and although he didn't know why, he was thankful for it and she completely changed his life.

After a year of knowing one other, meeting her family and being invited over for dinner and then to stay the night most days of the week, the family decided to be the only one to ever permanently take in an orphaned child from the streets. From then on, the Adlers were his makeshift family and he spent the next few years with them in complete bliss, the happiest he had ever been.

At around the ages of thirteen and fourteen, Katrina and Caius had begun to notice the other in a more romantic way. Kitty noticing how Caius' shoulders had broadened, while his voice deepened as he began his journey towards becoming a man. While Caius himself noticed how Katrina had undergone the takings into becoming a woman, also admiring her soft kind face that had helped him most in times of need.

The Adlers weren't surprised when the two began dating, and although a tad hesitant as they saw the two as their children, they let the teenagers be with one another as they had never seen Katrina and Caius happier than when they were together.

The two lovers weren't able to revel in the bliss of each other for long as the next year they were slapped in the face with their reality by Kitty being reaped for The Hunger Games. Caius wished he could take her place but alas, he could not and was forced, along with their family, to watch his girlfriend die by the hands of Finnick Odair, that year's winner.

The following year passed by in a blur of tears and attempted suicides as Caius had lost so much already and he didn't know how to cope with the loss of his life line - however, the Adler's helped ground him as he was their glue and without him, their family would fall apart. Caius didn't remember much but he did remember wanting to kill Finnick Odair when he met him and had to forcibly be held back.

It seemed that Caius Volts was the most unlucky a person could be as the following year, he too was reaped for the Hunger Games. This absolutely tore the Adler family apart and Caius vowed to win so they wouldn't have to deal with more loss. And he did. At sixteen years old he won the 66th Hunger Games and from then on, his life was never the same.

Thrown into a new home, forced to attend parties with other victors (Caius always had to be held away from Finnick as the blonde boy also taunted the boyfriend of the girl he killed, and Volts wanted to kill him any chance he got); Caius' life was turned on its axis and he lost all sense of himself.

He turned to alcohol, attempting to drown himself in a false reality that Katrina wasn't gone and that he hadn't killed innocent teenagers with his own two hands.

Caius Volts wanted nothing more than to live out the rest if his life in peace yet of course that wasn't what he got. The Capitol seemed to have it out for him as he was thrown into another games, along with Finnick Odair and other past Victors. This was Caius' chance to avenge Katrina, and Finnick better watch his back.

So I've had many chapters of this story planned out for a while yet for some reason I was so stuck and couldn't find a way to write Caius properly. I've been hit with the writing bug recently so I tried my at hand this although I apologize if it seems a bit choppy or odd.

This chapter is dedicated to -diggorys as their stories are so amazing and their hunger games story 'Night' inspires and gives me motivation to write this. Everyone should check it out as well as their new hunger games story 'Dark Winged Angel' which I actually made teo characters for (Tommy and Lilac)! As well as their other stories as they are an amazing author and put so much dedication and hard work into their stories and deserve so much more credit!

Anyway, what did you guys think of this intro? I'm really worried about revealing too much too soon however, I haven't explained certain things in detail and most things mentioned were already expected. Since this chapter is all over the place, I dont have specific questions but let me know your guys' thoughts and what you think will happen in the book!
