Chapter 18
"I dare you to look inside," Vinny said as he looked at the grubby fridge.
Oliver made a face that showed he was not going to even touch it.
"Do you want me to die from some insane disease?" He asked sarcastically, clearly exaggerating.
The boys had gone for a wander around the abandoned house. The rest of it was okay, it was just the kitchen that was quite dirty.
"No, no I don't," Vinny said as he pulled Oliver closer and wrapped an arm around his waist.
They were being normal and pretending like everything was fine. They may as well relax until the plans change. They didn't want to think about what stress might come next, they just wanted to spend time with each other.
But of course, Jed was doing his job and lingering not too far away.
"Why don't you look inside it?" Oliver questioned.
"No thanks" Vinny said before leaning forwards and kissing his temple. "I'm good."
"Yeah, thought so" Oliver mumbled.
Vinny's eyes were full of amusement. It was really nice for Oliver to see that again.
Vinny then tugged on his hand and pulled him back towards the stairs.
It was almost half nine at night and he could feel Oliver's tiredness, creeping in.
Jed was standing by the door but followed them upstairs and back towards the room, filled with angels.
They were all sitting and talking casually.
A lot of them were talking about the couples and realised they have something very special to tell two of them. They thought it was just Oliver, but it's Corey too.
As the boys entered the room, Corey and Panuleon were sitting on the only mattress in the house. There wasn't even any couches or anything else remotely comfortable.
They walked over as the angels watched with interest.
In heaven, they have been talked about for a long time and it was an honour for many of them to meet the couples.
The boys walked over to the mattress and sat down in front of it. For some reason, they liked going to Corey and Panuleon, maybe because they could talk and distract themselves.
Well, Oliver and Corey could talk. Panuleon liked to listen and Vinny didn't like to socialize.
"It's weird isn't" Corey said as he watched the other couple. "So many angels in the same room."
He could feel that Panuleon was excited but trying not to show it.
It had been a long time since he has seen this amount of angels and it reminded him of when he used to live in heaven.
"It's nice, though. I feel a lot better about this whole situation now" Oliver said truthfully. The angels did fill him with a lot of hope.
"Me too" Vinny mumbled as he gently rubbed his soulmates back.
Oliver leant into him and took his hand.
He loved playing with his warm fingers.
"Vinny? Do you drink humans blood?" Corey randomly asked.
He looked to the human with a blank expression, but it was only expected of him to ask questions like this. He is the first vampire he has ever met.
"Yes," Vinny said, not really wanting to explain.
"Like, all the time?"
"No. Vampires have an event called their annual blood day and once a year, we have to drink two pints of blood."
Oliver has lived through many of those now.
Yes, the first one was extremely sketchy because of Scarlet, but they have a nice system going now and Oliver is never in danger of being hurt again.
"Do you all dress like that?" He asked, referring to his smart choice of clothing.
"It's tradition for Vampires to dress smart," Vinny said.
He did look out of place here, but he didn't care.
"That's so cool," Corey said but didn't intend on saying it out loud. "I mean, it's just- Vampires have only ever been in films and books. I never thought I'd ever get the chance to actually meet one."
Corey felt Vinny's pride shine through his chest but he knew he would be modest about it.
"Uh... thanks," Vinny said, not knowing how to take compliments from anyone other than Oliver.
"I think it's strange that you don't have vampires in your world. They run our cities and pretty much look after us" Oliver said, which was true.
"They run cities? As in, they own them?" Corey asked.
"Yes. Vinny's family owns the Vanderwood city" He said as he looked at his soulmate.
Vinny shook his head and smiled.
"How many times do I have to tell you. It's our family."
Even after so many years, Oliver still isn't used to saying that.
"Sorry," He chuckled before leaning forward and kissing his cheek. He knew it annoyed him. "But you should come and visit our world."
Corey looked up to his angel, who was already staring at him.
"A demon-free world, that doesn't sound so bad" He smiled.
Panuleon studied his face.
They both knew that when they have time, maybe being in their world for a little while wouldn't be so bad.
"It doesn't," Panuleon said as he connected his fingers around Corey's waist. They haven't let go of each other since they were reunited.
"Well, there's plenty of room in our house," Oliver said as he glanced at Vinny with a big smile.
"See, that wasn't so hard was it?" Vinny asked but he returned the smile and pulled his lover closer.
"Yes Vinny, it took all my strength," Oliver said sarcastically.
"Not that you've got much" He smirked.
Oliver cocked his head to the side and blinked.
"Excuse me, I am an extremely strong human thank you very much," Oliver stated before crossing his arms.
"And delusional" Vinny added.
Oliver then chuckled and gave him a friendly shove.
"I am clearly stronger than you," He said but they both knew that was definitely not true.
"No," His soulmate bluntly replied as the other couple watched with amusement.
They both stared at each other, wondering whether to continue being silly or not.
"Yes, I am."
Vinny rolled his eyes but then pinned Oliver's back to the ground. He sat on him and put his legs on either side of his waist.
"Show me how strong you are."
The angels were glancing at them, wondering what they were doing.
Oliver grinned but didn't attempt to struggle.
"I'm tired, though," He said and blinked sweetly.
Vinny chuckled, which was the first time Corey or Panuleon had seen him somewhat happy.
"Of course, you are" He sighed, but reached down and tickled his stomach.
Oliver squirmed and grabbed Vinny's hands.
"Stop" He whined but couldn't help and laugh.
The angels smiled at this. Even though they have been through a tough time and are so many miles away from home, they are still finding comfort and joy within each other.
Vinny felt satisfied when he saw Oliver forget his worries.
He stopped tickling him but didn't get up.
Oliver yawned before taking Vinny's hands. He was tired but a lot happier now.
They knew their safety still wasn't guaranteed, but they may as well cherish it while they've got it.
"Do Vampires sleep?" Corey then asked. He was starting to feel tired too.
"Yes, but not the whole night" Vinny replied without taking his gaze away from his soulmate. He noticed that Corey asked random things at random times.
Corey looked up to Panuleon with watery eyes from a yawn.
"Are you ready to get some sleep?" The angel asked.
Corey nodded but wondered where he would sleep. There was only one mattress and it wasn't very big.
Panuleon could hear his thoughts, making him smile.
"It's okay, you can sleep on me" He whispered before leaning down and planting a delicate kiss on his lips.
Corey smiled into it and kissed him back.
Panuleon knew his soulmate wasn't ready to be apart yet but he also knew that he would sleep better if he could feel him.
Corey then pulled away and stood up.
Panuleon got up too and found a clean spot in the corner of the room.
He shined his wings before laying down.
Corey watched in awe as he made himself comfortable. Even after so many years, his wings never failed to amaze him.
When Panuleon was comfortable, Corey laid on top of his warm wing and cuddled extremely close.
He rested his head on Panuleon's chest and gently ran his fingers through his soft feathers.
This wasn't the first time they've had to rough it for the night, but they discovered that Panuleon's wings were warm and comfortable for Corey. Plus, Panuleon loves exposing them so they can breathe and stretch.
"Are you okay sleeping on the floor?" Oliver asked before sitting up. "I'm sure if we tried, we could share" He was referring to the mattress.
He didn't want Corey to be uncomfortable tonight, considering he had been through the worst amount of suffering.
"It's okay, his wings are more comfortable than they look" Corey smiled. "But thank you."
Vinny did think that sleeping on an angel wing actually looked incredibly comfortable. But he would pick Oliver over comfort any day.
So he could understand why Corey would choose Panuleon over the mattress.
Oliver smiled at the couple before moving onto the bed.
Vinny followed and laid down next to him.
They both immediately snuggled close and wrapped their arms around each other. It would be a few hours until Vinny went to sleep, but he enjoyed being this close and wanted to help his soulmate rest.
This small mattress made them realise how lucky they are to have that huge poster bed back at the mansion.
They were starting to miss home and their parents. Even Vinny would admit that he missed his mum and dad. He felt guilty that they were worrying, but they can hopefully go home soon.
As the couples settled down and the humans tried getting some sleep, the angels sat around the room, watching over them and quietly talking among themselves.
Jed had just been informed about Corey and Oliver. In all honesty, he didn't expect that.
"When should we tell them?" He whispered quietly. He felt excited but nervous for their reactions.
"Maybe tomorrow morning?" A woman suggested.
Jed exchanged a glance with Zachariah before they both nodded.
"Okay, they need to know."
Jed and Zachariah's ears were ringing. This was important news.
Maybe to the boys it would feel a little too soon, but in this situation, everything is happening for a reason.
You can't stop destiny, especially when the world depends on it.
