Chapter 15

Duke sat at the end of his bed.

here was yet another night without the boys and he couldn't describe how worried he was.

Why was it taking so long for them to return home? Have the angels not found them yet? Were they still together?

The fact that he, Madison and John knew nothing was making their nerves fly through the roof.

The mansion seemed empty without them.

Whenever they were sitting in the dining-room, they kept expecting Oliver to burst through the door and start talking about god knows what. Or Vinny to angrily walk in and ignore the world like he usually does.

They missed listening to the boys talk to one another and they missed their ridiculous humour.

The public was the same, They had been crowding up outside, waiting to hear any news.

After the world got over the shock that there was a demon invasion, people have been offering all kinds of help, but what could they do? Only the angels could save the boys now.

It has been almost five hours since Zachariah found Corey in the vent. He kept going back to see that he had made tiny bits of progress but he was still out of his reach.

With each passing hour, it has been harder and harder for Corey to even communicate with Zachariah. The pain was becoming too much for his small body.

"Come on Corey, just a few more meters."

This time, when the angel came to his aid, Corey had passed out from the pain and Zachariah had to throw things at him to get him to wake up.

"I-I'm trying" He breathed but tears were flowing down his face and his body was still shaking.

"I know and you're doing great but I fear the demons will find us."

Zachariah kept glancing up at the ceiling. He had realised that he has two minutes with Corey until the smoke comes and then he has to wait half an hour until it's safe to come back.

"He's so far away" Corey sobbed as his head throbbed from his cries.

Zachariah swallowed the lump in his throat. Corey's sadness was very hard to witness.

"I know, but you'll be with him soon."

Vinny's mind was starting to wake up, as was Oliver's.

He felt extremely drained of energy and very tired.

Jed watched as the boys frowned but they looked exhausted. He could tell they would find it hard to wake up from this mystery drug.

As Vinny's mind became more conscious, he tried moving his fingers.

He was surprised that there was a warm hand, curled around his. He knew it was Oliver's and relief ran through his body.

Oliver felt warmth in his chest from Vinny and also when he felt something move on his hand.

He knew it was his soulmate.

This gave them both the strength to gently squeeze each other's hand.

But they didn't know where they were or who they were with.

Are they still with the demons or did the angels reach them?

They both waited a few minutes until their bodies regained a little bit of strength before attempting to open their eyes.

Vinny frowned once more and flickered them open.

At first, his vision was blurry and he couldn't make out his surroundings.

He blinked and tried focusing again but this time, he saw a familiar person, crouching by his feet.

It was Jed.

All the worry instantly left his heart as he felt his body relax.

Jed could see the relief on his face and he knew how grateful he was.

Vinny then slowly moved his head and let his gaze fall upon his soulmate who was lying next to him.

Oliver hadn't managed to open his eyes yet, but he was trying.

Then, with all his strength, Vinny rolled over and cuddled into his human.

Oliver felt a burst of Joy when he felt Vinny's body against his.

He then used all his strength to wrap an arm around his back.

Jed smiled. He felt happy that they could be together.

But suddenly, there was a gentle groan of discomfort coming from Panuleon.

Jed looked across and didn't realise that he had started to wake.

He got up and knelt down next to him.

"Panuleon?" He asked while watching him clutch his chest and scrunch his eyes together.

"Corey" He cried as he curled up into a ball.

"Zachariah is with him, he's stuck in the vent."

Even though Vinny and Oliver were sharing their own moment, they couldn't help but feel sorry for Panuleon.

It was worse for those two to be apart than it was for them.

"No" Panuleon breathed as his hands started to shake. "He's so far away."

Just then, Zachariah landed in the room. He was still empty handed.

"He's getting close. I just- Panuleon?"

Zachariah walked quickly over to the angel.

"Y-You left him?" Panuleon asked with worry.

"I had to, the fumes came back. But he's so close to me now and I'm sure I'll get him out when the fumes clear up."

"He's all alone" Panuleon sobbed.

There was nothing worse than being apart from his soulmate and also knowing he was by himself.

Zachariah squeezed Panuleon's shoulder. There was nothing they could do but wait until the fumes were gone.

Jed turned to see Vinny and Oliver, still hugging.

They both looked extremely run down.

"I'm going to get food and water. I'll be quick" Jed said before standing up.

Zachariah gave him a nod and they knew to listen out for each other's whispers if they came across trouble.

And in a flash, he was gone.

Vinny managed to lift his head, just as Oliver was opening his eyes.

"We're safe" He whispered, seeing the relief wash through his gaze.

Vinny then dropped his head and planted a kiss onto Oliver's lips. He was still pretty dizzy and his limbs were extremely weak, but he was able to kiss him and wouldn't miss the opportunity, not for anything.

Oliver felt the warmth, circling his heart as their souls swirled and merged within each other.

Vinny's face was pressed up against his and it felt so special to be this close.

They could feel each other's stubble as they hadn't had a proper wash for a few days, but to feel simple things like that would be treasured between the two.

Every little detail about each other was not taken for granted.

Even though they were happy to be together, they couldn't help but feel little bits of guilt.

Corey was still in the danger zone and way past his limit.

They could hear Panuleon crying as they looked over to see Zachariah rubbing his back.

They remembered Jed telling them that Zachariah was Panuleon's guardian when they lived in heaven.

He was the one who raised him so in a way, he's like his parent.

The boys did wonder about Corey and Panuleon's life. Did they have parents? How did things work in their world if there were no Vampires to look after the cities?

But now was not the time for questions. They were sure they'd get the opportunity to ask things later, but right now they needed to offer any help they could give.

Jed was only gone for ten minutes until he came back with bottles of water and a range of foods, knowing the demons wouldn't have provided much.

Oliver and Vinny were now sitting up and still hugging.

Panuleon was shaking and heavily rubbing his chest. His eyes were red and puffy as the tears continued to stream down his face. He looked completely heartbroken.

Jed knew there was still nothing he could do, so he walked over to the boys and gave them a drink and some food.

"Thank you," They said as they took advantage of the water and drank until their bodies felt refreshed.

Vinny forgot how thirsty he was until he started drinking, but Jed was glad to see that they drank so much. It was nice to know that they were getting what their bodies needed.

"Zachariah, please go back for him, please" Panuleon pleaded. He couldn't stand the pain and the sorrow anymore.

He and Jeduthun exchanged a glance, but they knew Panuleon and Corey wouldn't last for much longer if they were kept apart.

"Okay," He said and stood up.

Zachariah looked around and held his breath, hoping that the fumes would be mostly cleared up when he got there.

Everyone watched as the creamy glow of his wings started to appear and just like that,

he vanished.

He landed in the hallway to see it was slightly foggy, indicating that the gas was still hovering around.

He quickly ran over to the vent and pulled it off the wall.

He was still holding his breath and praying that the human had gotten close enough for him to reach.

He crouched and looked inside, but to his horror,

Corey was gone.
