Chapter 14

"What were they drugged with?"

"I don't know."

Jed and Zachariah stood with their arms crossed.

They made it to the boys just in time, although, they were one person short.

Corey.

They couldn't find him and simply didn't have time to look as the gas would've affected them if they stayed.

They were extremely concerned about Panuleon and how he'll feel when he wakes up.

They were a few miles away from the place where the boys had been held.

They had never been pulled that far apart before.

It has been thousands of years since they weren't right next to each other and the angels knew he would be traumatized with Corey being missing.

Jed leant down and made sure Vinny and Oliver were holding hands. It was important for them to feel one another when they came around.

"I should go back," Zachariah said. "I need to find Corey."

"It's not safe on your own. We should wait until they wake up so the boys can look after Panuleon and we can look together."

Zachariah paced on his feet. With every passing second, Corey could be getting himself into deeper trouble. He could be hurt, lost and alone.

"They could be unconscious for days. I fear for Corey's life if he's stuck in the demons hideout."

Jed chewed the inside of his lip with thought. It was not safe for Zachariah to go alone but it was not safe for Corey to be there alone either and if he could find him before Panuleon wakes up, things will become so much more relaxing for him.

"Okay," He sighed. "But please, channel your thoughts directly to me if you need help."

Zachariah nodded before pulling him into a hug.

"I will Jeduthun, stay safe," He said and stood back.

"You too."

Zachariah then shined his wings and looked up.

In a blink of an eye,

he was gone.

Corey was lying in the vent.

His whole body was visibly shaking as his limbs were tense and curled up around himself.

Words could not describe the amount of heartache he was experiencing. It felt like his heart was ripped apart and left to rot on the ground.

His chest felt like it had been stamped on and burnt with incredible amounts of sorrow.

His mind was scrambled and his breathing was irregular.

He couldn't control anything. He felt so sad, so sore and so alone.

Tears were flowing from his eyes as he tried his best to keep his whimpers quiet.

he was taking big gasps of air because his chest was hurting so badly.

Corey was stuck. He hadn't moved very far from when Panuleon put the cover back on, but he couldn't bring himself to go further.

He was too overcome with intense emotions.

He couldn't even hear Panuleon's thoughts, showing him that the gas had worked.

But what were the demons doing to them? Are Vinny and Oliver okay? He hoped they were still together.

Zachariah landed in the hallway that gassed the boys. He was thankful to see it had cleared up and was safe for him to be there.

He looked around, wondering if Corey was with them but managed to escape.

He then stopped and listened when something caught his attention.

He closed his eyes and focused on his surroundings.

Suddenly, there it was again.

He could hear soft whimpers, but where was it coming from?

He looked around again and saw a small vent.

He thought it was a long shot that Corey would be in there, but it wouldn't hurt to look.

So without wasting time, he ran over and pulled it from the wall.

He crouched and looked down the dark hole but for him, he could see perfectly.

As his eyes focused, he could see a person, lying on the ground and curled up into a ball.

It was Corey.

Relief flooded the angel. He was thankful that he wasn't in the grasp of a demon.

"Corey?" He called quietly.

Corey froze, did he just hear his name? He laid still, not wanting to even breathe out of fear.

"Corey?" He heard again and this time, the voice sounded very familiar.

"Zachariah?" He croaked as he tried looking down the vent and sure enough, the Angel was looking at him from the entrance.

Corey felt like screaming with happiness. The Angels are finally here.

"Yes Corey, it's me," Zachariah said as he looked at the small hole and knew he wouldn't fit but he also knew that Corey would be in so much pain from being so far away from his soulmate, that maybe he couldn't move.

Zachariah has been a dear friend to Corey and Panuleon over the years. Just like Jed, he watched over them and acted as a guardian angel for as long as they needed him to be.

"Corey, I need you to make your way to me. I know you're hurting, but we need to get out of here."

Zachariah looked around, there were no cameras in the corridor but the demons would've come back to see that the boys had gone.

They'll most likely be searching the area for them.

"I can't- I can't move" He whispered but Zachariah heard him.

He could see that Corey was shaking and in a lot of pain as he clutched his chest.

"I can't get to you, Corey. The only way we can escape is if you come to me" The Angel knew he was asking too much of the human, but Corey had to do this himself.

Corey's face was pressed to the cold metal vent. He could barely breathe, let alone crawl back to the Angel.

"Come on Corey, you can do it."

Zachariah knew they had to act fast, it was very dangerous for them to be here.

Corey breathed deeply as he pictured Panuleon in his mind.

He pictures his smile and his beautiful hazel eyes. He couldn't wait to be with him.

"Zach, where's Panuleon?" Corey asked as he gripped his chest harder.

"He's with Oliver, Vinny, and Jeduthun. Remember, he's the Angel I told you about."

Corey knew that Jeduthun was the Angel who looked after Oliver and Vinny in the other world.

"I remember," He said but cried out in pain when he felt a wave of great sadness, rippling through his chest.

"Corey, the quicker you come to me, the quicker you can be reunited with Panuleon," Zachariah said as he looked up and down the corridor.

It was still empty.

"I know it's hard, but you have to find the strength."

suddenly little holes opened up at the top of the wall and started pouring out white smoke.

Zachariah knew he had to leave.

"Corey, I must go. Please stay here and concentrate on getting closer. I will come back for you, I promise"

Corey knew the fumes would affect him if he didn't leave, but he didn't want to be alone again.

"Please don't be long" He whispered as his whole body was trembling.

"I won't, I promise."

Zachariah then stood up and put the cover back over the vent. He felt incredibly bad that he had to leave Corey but he didn't want to become victim to the fumes.

Jed paced up and down. He was nervous for Zachariah and Corey. He had never met Corey but he knew he was human and very vulnerable in this situation compared to Vinny or Panuleon.

This was his first time meeting Panuleon too. It was nice to meet an angel that was in love with a human. He always hated the rule that angel and human relationships are forbidden.

Although, Zachariah's soulmate is human too.

Just then, there was a bright flash of white as Zachariah landed next to him.

But he was empty handed.

"You didn't find him?"

"I did, he was in the vent so the fumes didn't get to him. But I can't fit and he's out of my reach. he's incredibly heartbroken and in pain with Panuleon being so far away that he's struggling to move."

Jed ran a hand through his hair with thought.

"Is that why you came back?"

"No, I would have stayed with him but the fumes came back. I believe it's triggered by people's movement as there are no cameras."

"Okay, leave it for half an hour then go back," Jed said, making Zachariah nod.

"I hate that he's there all by himself."

"Me too, but we'll get him safely out."

The angels then took their gaze to the boys. They were still unconscious and they didn't know how long they'd be like this.

Jed sat down and connected his fingers together, trying to calm himself but Zachariah couldn't settle.

He wouldn't be okay until Corey was safe.
