-chapter 2

I grabbed my file off the bed and along with it my computer. It's been an extremely difficult couple of days. I can't believe I ruined my Wednesday and Thursday. Delano Scaveli is a ghost. I was wrecking my brain, trying to find information on the guy.

I walked out of my room, finding Vino outside of my door. "Jesus! How long were you standing there?" He grunted in response. "Come on, Papa's waiting." My curiosity got the better of me. "Had he talked to you about this?"

Another grunt. "I'm going to take that as a no?" "Amira when are you going to learn to not ask questions? Papa brought something upon you, correct? Now just shut your mouth and do as you're ordered." I watched as his hands clenched. Something is wrong. "Are you mad because he chose me for Scaveli?"

He ignored me as we finally reached the office. I placed my hand on his shoulder. "Hey, talk to me. Are you mad that he asked me and not you?" He met my eyes, his usual soft eyes, hard and void of emotion. "Stop asking fucking questions." I opened my mouth to argue, only for him to walk off.

Okay. I walked into the office, dad behind his desk, Lenzo and Omar standing by the wall. "Amira, come." I nodded and walked up to the desk, placing the file and my computer of it. I barely got a chance to sit before he grilled me. "What've you got?"

His eyes locked with mine. I open the computer to my notes. "The only physical information I got on him is that he owns 4 nightclubs in New York City. According to records, it's legit. The records are legal, and he's currently working on a real estate program, again legal. He's clean, dad."

I watched as he clenched his hands. "Amira, that's information we already knew. Anything else? Relationships, secret dealings?" I scrolled down and smirked. "He's single as far as I know. No girlfriend, wife or husband, if he swings that way. There is a video of him meeting a man named Kaslov, some Russian guy."

I flipped the computer, showing him. He watched, no reaction. He watched the video, closing the laptop when it was over. "Lenzo, Omar, outside." They nodded, walking out.

He took a deep breath, before looking at me. I shrugged, not taking it seriously. "That's all I got. He's a nobody in the real world. Not all that dangerous if you ask me."

"This isn't about the real world. We don't live in the real world. I need to know I can count on you. For once in your life, take this seriously." I scoffed. "I am.. but you seriously couldn't have expected me to find anything solid on him. You know who he is. Ever since you killed Scaveli, they went underground. I stood up for hours searching him. This is all the evidence I got on him."

I looked at him. "I'm starting to think there's more to this than you're not telling me. Why the rush all of a sudden?" He took a deep breath, before standing up. "I'm not getting any younger. I need to make sure I can leave the family business to someone I can trust when things get tough. I want that person to be you."

I opened my mouth to say something, only for him to hold up his hand. "Don't mention your brothers. I already told you, I can't rely on them to do the things that need to be done.." I chuckled, nervously. "Do I even have a say in this?"

I've seen the things that are needed to be done, and I've come to terms with them. Could I actually run the family? "No. I've known for a long while that you would be the one to take my place. You always say that it's not something you would've chose but I can see it in your eyes. You want this, you just don't want the changes that come with being the boss."

I felt my face soften as he talked. "Being the boss comes with a price. It means more enemies, less friends-" "More blood." He nodded. "More blood. But I've taught you everything you need to know. The only thing left is for you to show me that I have nothing to worry about."

"By killing Scaveli?" He snapped his head in my direction. "No! You are not to kill Scaveli." Okay, now I'm really confused. "So what's the point of all this?"

"To get inside his head. I want him weak before I kill him." I nodded, finally understanding. My dad had an enemy, he didn't just want him dead. He wants him humiliated, and then dead. "What do you want me to do?"

"Before that, I have to know you're willing to go through with this." I felt my body tense up, my head wanting to say something else. Say you don't want this. Tell him that it's not right. Pretend you don't want it. But my heart spoke for me. "I'm ready. What's the plan?"

He nodded before walking back to the desk, opening the drawer and grabbing another file. "I'm sending you to New York, specifically to Scaveli's nightclub, La Torch. I had some of the guys find out if Scaveli would be there. You are to go in and get close to anyone that might appear to be from his gang. Do not approach Scaveli if you see him."

Once again I opened my mouth to ask why, just to receive a hand in response. "He might not seem like a threat but he is dangerous. He's merciless and won't hesitate to put a bullet in your head if he finds out who you are. Try to stay as far from his as possible." The word bullet sends a shiver down my spine.

"When do I leave?" "Tonight." I looked at him, shocked. "So soon? I won't have time to pack-." He dig his hand into his pocket, placing a key in front of me. "I've arranged an apartment for you in New York, nothing too special but in good condition. There are clothes for you already. Besides, I don't expect you to be there long."

I nodded, impressed at how much he has thought this through. "Okay. I go to his nightclub and get information. Anything else?" "In the apartment is a phone. Two numbers on it, mine and your uncle, Lenzo. You report to us and no one else. In the apartment is also a gun. And since, you love shooting, I'm sure you know when and when not to use it."

I smiled before remembering the situation at hand. "And after?" "Lenzo and Omar will come get you Monday morning, and bring you back." I nodded and stood up from the chair, I looked at him one last time. "I can do this." His lips curved into what appeared to be a smile. "I know."
