-chapter 1
Breath in, breath out. Pull the trigger on the exhale. Never close your eyes. I gripped the gun tight, breathing in and then exhaling, pulling the trigger. The sound of the gunshots filling me with some twisted form of comfort. It's all I've ever known.
I emptied the clip before pressing the button, bringing the target up close. I smiled as I saw the holes right in the head. Practice makes perfect, right dad?
I grabbed the gun, ready for another round before Lenzo walked up to me. Living in a family like ours, there was never a moment of peace. Being a Constanzo, meant you were never alone. Enemies every where waiting for the right moment to attack.
It's not the life I would've chosen but it's the one I'm meant to have. My uncle, Lenzo leaned in. "Your dad." I looked down at his hand as he held his phone. I rolled my eyes before holding the phone up to my ear.
"Papa." "Mira, I told you no gun range today. I need you here." I chuckled. "Mio Vecchio, I needed a distraction." [My old man]. I smirked as I heard his annoyance. "Come home now, Amira." I opened my mouth to protest, only for him to hang up. Lenzo chuckled. "Do you want to drive?" I smiled "Do you even have to ask?"

I pulled into the garage a little faster than I intended almost running Omar, another one of our men over. "Sorry!" He shook his head in disappointment before walking off.
Lenzo and I hopped out of car, papa watching us from the office room. "Let's go." I shrugged as I walked my way into the house. People are always intimidated by the size of the house. Or Mansion as my friends would call it, but to me. It's just my house. A place my brothers and I grew up in, watching and learning the ways of the family business.
I walked into the kitchen, kissing mom on the cheek. "Ciao, mama." "Ciao, Cara." I placed my purse on the counter before making my way up the stairs. It was always weird how my mother totally avoided this life. She wanted nothing to do with it. "Do what you must and leave me be." It made everything a little easier, she worried about raising us, while papa shot men in front of their families.
It's not something to be proud of but as I said. This was the life, adapt or die. I reached the office, walking in. I watched as all eyes fell on me. My brothers, Vino and Ramon eying me up and down before shaking their head in disappointment. Seems to be a common reaction today.
I walked over to my dad, kissing his cheek. "Ciao, papa." I chuckled before walking to a chair, sitting down. "What are we talking about?" Vino handed me a folder. A kill mission? Again?
"Who is it this time?" I opened the folder, seeing documents, photos, and records. My heart skipped a beat as I read the name. "Scaveli." I looked up at my dad, forgetting my brothers and our men were in the room. "Papa, who is this." I flipped through the pictures. "What is this?"
"Your task." Task? Ramon, cut in. "That is Delano Scaveli." I looked at him then my father. Scaveli. Our rivals. Once run by Vitor Scaveli, a ruthless man with no heart or mercy. Shot and killed at the order of our father.
"His son?" He looked at my brothers, nodding. They nodded in response before everyone walked out. He sat down at his desk. "Papa, has he done something?"
He crossed his hands. "Amira, I've said nothing to you about this because I needed to know if you were ready. If I wanted you to be my choice." Choice? He must've read my confusion. "Your brothers are strong, loyal, and smart but they aren't my choice for this."
"But.. I am?" He nodded. "Why not Vino?" "Ah, Vino. He is a good boy but he thinks with his emotions. And Ramon, he rarely ever thinks. He only cares about the fun of this life. You understand everything. The sacrifices, the people, and what has to be done. You respect it even though terrible things are needed to be done. You can be the one to bring that garbage family down."
I nodded, understanding. "Do Vino and Ramon know about this?" "Of course, they've known for a while. But there's a condition." My eyes snapped back into his. "We need you on the inside of Scaveli's gang."
I felt my heart stop, he wanted to put me on the line, just to kill the son of man he killed. A man who might be ten times more ruthless than his father was.
I scoffed, knowing it was close to impossible. "How am I supp-." He held his hand up. "I have everything planned. We will discuss everything in a couple days."
"Days?" "Amira, I'm not sending you out to Scaveli without proper information. Find info on him and come to me, then we'll talk about the plan." I nodded, still not believing what was happening. I clutched the folder before standing up and walking out.
I walked to my bedroom, my father's words still floating in my mind. On the inside? What does that even mean?
