The Unexpected Fight
Knox:
I could start off by telling you about the deranged teenagers, or the weird things I saw, or the small fact about how I almost died (wait, no, make that plural; I almost died so many times I lost count). But my Grandmother would reprimand me about my manners. And honestly, I would feel bad for you. No one should be that confused. Trust me, I speak from experience.
My name is Knox Eringarde. I know, Knox like Fort Knox. Yes, that was usually what people told me when they heard my name.
I was seventeen years old, and lived in Manhattan.
This is the story of how my life changed.
~o0o0o0o~
I woke up to the normal morning of my sister screaming in my face. Not just screaming, of course. She smashed her pink fluffy pillow against me, laughing.
"Knoxy, wakey wakey!"
Sometimes I honestly thought she was two years old, and not my twin.
I groaned and pulled my blanket over my head, trying to shut her out. My attempt was unsurprisingly futile. Not to mention, I was sweating. Summers in Manhattan weren't exactly easy. But anything to shut out her annoying voice.
"You'll be late for school sweetie!" My mother called from downstairs. I groaned louder. "FIVE MORE MINUTES!" I yelled back. My sister had stopped her screaming, but that wasn't good. My sister never gave up.
Sure enough, five seconds later I got my answer. The answer happened not to be verbal, but to be a glass of water poured down my shirt. I felt it be yanked back, only to have the cold liquid flood down my spine.
I screamed and leapt out of bed, as my sister doubled over, laughing again. I made a face at her and threw a pillow, which she easily dodged. She pouted at me. "Knoxy is mean. Bad Knoxy." She complained.
"Now I'm sure we need to take you to a doctor. You definitely hit your head somewhere, because you sound younger than Jamie." I spat at her, comparing her to our ten-year old younger brother.
She rolled her eyes at me. "Whatever. I was doing you a favor. I don't want to ruin my image by having a dork as a brother. Dress well, it's our first day back." She ordered. I smirked.
"Dakota, you don't have much of an 'image'" I made air quotes around the word 'image'. Dakota glared at me. "Well, I don't want to ruin it before it's created. Besides, we're in Junior year, and I have a feeling everything's going to change." She said dreamily. I smacked another pillow in her face, but before she could do anything back, I quickly ran to the bathroom and shut myself inside, chuckling.
"You little... you... Gah!" she fumbled, not coming up with a word strong enough. I laughed harder. "Yes Dakota, brilliant insult. I feel ashamed of myself now." I called back. She pounded on the door once again, before the sound of her footsteps faded away. I smirked and leaned against the basin.
I peered at my reflection. I wasn't good-looking, but I wasn't an ogre. My brown hair had grown slightly longer and now brushed my eyebrows, having been disheveled from sleep. Beneath my bushy eyebrows, my eyes were dark brown. Sometimes I wished I had another color of eyes, but they were simply brown. I had high cheekbones when I smiled, and my smile wasn't exactly award-winning. Thin, slightly pink lips, with a pointed nose and pale skin. I stood relatively tall at 5'11, with a slim physique.
I turned on the tap and splashed water in my face. I let the coolness of the liquid wash away the sweat on my face. Even though I would never admit it to her face, Dakota was right. I needed to hurry up. Being late on the first day of Junior year wasn't exactly something to flaunt.
I quickly freshened up and wiped myself off, and got ready to pick the outfit. I chose a simply white T-shirt with denims, and slid into them. I brushed my hair into messy spikes, but I didn't spend much time on it. It remained disheveled and messy no matter how hard I tried, and after a while I'd just give up.
When I felt satisfied with my appearance, I headed downstairs, to see Dakota already at the table, with my parents and Jamie. My mother kissed my forehead lightly as I walked up to them, and Dad grinned. Dakota gave me an unimpressed look.
"That's a beautiful thing you have on there. I'm sure the dustbin will be impressed." She remarked. I rolled my eyes at her and sat down to eat my pancakes. "Not like you look like a beauty queen." I shot back. That wasn't exactly true, Dakota looked pretty nice, but I wasn't about to give her that satisfaction.
She shared my brown hair, though hers was straighter and obviously longer; it went till her mid-back. She had the same brown eyes as I did, but hers held a sparkle to them almost all the time. She looked similar to me, with high cheekbones and pale skin, so I couldn't even pretend that the mental patient beside me was an alien and not my sister. She had on a floral shirt with shorts, which went till her knees.
We finished our food quickly, making small talk. We were a fairly normal family. My father owned a book store, and mother sometimes helped out, now that Jamie went to school as well. My sister and I weren't child Geniuses, but we got fairly good grades. No, we weren't the 'nerds'. We weren't popular jocks either. We had friends, and were known by people, and led an average teenage life.
Now, I almost laugh at the phrase 'an average teenage life'.
I stepped out of the house after giving my mother a kiss on her cheek and my father a hug. Jamie's school started later on, but Dakota and I needed to reach our classes. We hopped onto my bike, and she placed her hands on my shoulder, digging her nails in. I jerked the bike, almost throwing her off, and she lessened her grip with a grumble. We fixed our helmets and started off, after waving good bye to our family.
If only we had any idea what was headed our way...

Dakota:
Knox parked his bike right outside the school's front doors, where the stream of Juniors slowly flowed through the open doors of our school. The atmosphere was liked with the loud talks of our peers, everyone wondering what this new year held in store for us.
"Dakota!" I heard a feminine voice.
Immediately a smile lit up my face. I leapt off the bike and yanked off my helmet, throwing it to Knox without looking back, as he tried to steady the tilting bike. I heard him mutter a few curses, but I didn't pay attention.
I ran up to my best friend Lauren and threw my arms around her in a tight hug. We practically jumped off the ground in our hug, and out of the corner of my eye, I watched Knox walk up to us. I pulled away from her and laughed. "I can't believe this! Finally senior year!" Lauren screamed. I simply laughed even more.
"Guys, jeez, you're going to give us hearing problems with all that squealing." Our other friend Parker smirked, giving Knox a high-five. Parker stood taller than Knox by an inch or so, and looked fairly handsome with his striking blue eyes and blonde hair in spikes. "Agreed. But nothing's about to stop these guys." The final member of our group, another boy named Wayne muttered, softly. Wayne was much more shy and sweet than Knox and Parker.
We exchanged some more greetings, but we couldn't wait too long. We needed to be inside, and in our class. All of us were in the same first class except Knox and Lauren. Knox gave me a meaningful glance as we stepped inside the doors. "Try not to get suspended while I'm away, okay?" He told me in complete seriousness. I smiled sweetly at him, then punched his arm hard before he could say more.
Then I dashed into the classroom, as my brother's agonized scream rang from outside. He gave me a death glare, as I stuck out my tongue at him, then went his way.
I was so fixated on my exchange with him, that I hadn't seen the boy come sit next to me.
"Hey..." A voice called out.
I turned, and smiled. The boy sitting beside me seemed to be torn between introducing himself and running and quietly looking away. I decided to make it easier for him.
"Hey! New Student? I haven't seen you around here before. Then again, there are a few hundred students in this school, but even then, I'm pretty sure I know my fellow classmates, so... where are you from?" I asked in one breath. His eyes widened, but after a moment he let out a small chuckle. "Yeah, I'm new. Moved here a week ago. I used to live in Wisconsin, but, you know, Dad got a transfer. You're from around here, aren't you?" He asked. I nodded enthusiastically.
"Dakota. Dakota Eringarde." I stuck out my hand. His eyes grew big for a split second, but he immediately smiled again, so I must've imagined it. he shook my outstretched hand.
"Bryan Dallier."
I smiled warmly at him, before turning the other way, for the teacher had entered. I zoned out for a while. She would be giving her usual introductory speech, for newbies like Bryan. I focused my attention on the boy next to me and sized him up. After all, I should try to make him feel better, more welcome. He didn't notice me, though. He was paying attention to the introduction.
He seemed to be around my brother's height, maybe slightly taller, with tanned skin and brown eyes. He was obviously athletic, and seemed much more in shape than Knox was. His brown hair was spiked up as well, but not fashionably like Parker's, or uncaringly like my brother's. He seemed to be giving off the I-woke-up-from-sleep-looking-like-this-and-decided-to-go-with-it. He didn't look all that good, at least not to me, but I knew many others were giving him 'the looks'.
I tore my eyes away and focused on the teacher, who had now finished the introduction and had moved on to teaching.
I sighed and started opening the required book.
Class seemed to go on for hours, and finally, the bell rang.
I knew I had to go meet up with Knox and Lauren, so I waved goodbye to Parker and Wayne, who waved right back. Wayne went back to his business, but Parker's expression startled me. He seemed deep in thought, even worried. I shrugged it off. Must've been the coming back to school after so long.
I had barely stepped out when Knox slammed into me. The two of us burst out laughing, as Lauren shook her head, amused. "About five minutes ago, you guys were punching each other and giving death glares. Now you're laughing like lunatics. Are you two even okay in the attic?" she mused.
I stuck out my tongue at her.
"Rennie, you've been our friend for how long exactly? Are you still doubting our sanity?" Knox asked. Lauren gave him a look. "No, just wondering when along the year you guys lost it."
"Um, excuse me?" A voice called from behind us. We turned to see the new boy from class, Bryan standing there with a sheepish look on his face. Knox smiled at him.
"Hey there! I don't seem to recognize you..." He stated. Bryan smiled back. "Yeah, I'm new around here. Came from Wisconsin a week ago. I actually..." he fidgeted with his shirt, which seemed to make him look younger. "I had to actually talk to you guys about something. Its about our new neighborhood, and you guys live about four houses down from us, so..." his voice trailed off. Knox nodded at him. "Sure, go ahead."
Bryan shook his head. "Not in front of so any people. I'm sorry, I know that sounds kind of weird, but this is kind of personal to my house, and I didn't really want to broadcast it. You were the first person to talk to me, and I recognized you, so I thought I could trust you guys." He said, his cheeks turning red, as he addressed me. I laughed.
"Relax dude. Come on, we'll talk somewhere else, okay?" I told him as I walked ahead. Knox stayed back and made small talk with Bryan, as we turned around the corner to what I knew was an empty classroom. In break, this was the only place we could talk alone. I heard Knox and Bryan exchange names and classes, as we stepped into the room.
I closed the door behind us, but just as I turned the other way, I heard it lock. I looked back, puzzled. I hadn't locked that. It didn't seem jammed, only locked, but how was that possible?
Knox's voice drew me away from the door.
"So, what's this you wanted to talk to us about?" he asked, casually taking a chair to sit on. Just as he was about to sit on the chair, though, the thing skidded out from under him, and he fell the ground, hard.
I rushed over as he groaned in pain, clutching his lower back. "Oh Gods, Knox, you okay?" I asked, checking to see if he'd hurt himself too badly. Knox nodded, though I knew something was wrong.
I had a funny feeling in my chest. First the door locked, and now Knox's chair. I looked up to Bryan, to get the shock of my life.
He was smirking.
"What the hell!? Can't you see he'd hurt? Help me get him up!" I ordered, anger creeping into my tone. How dare this idiot just stand there while my brother was hurt. Smirking even.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I should've known not to hurt you." He said, sarcasm dripping from his words.
I was now royally confused.
"Bryan, what the hell is going on?" I asked, my voice edgy. Something was off. Really off. I got the feeling that coming here with this guy was a terrible idea. I couldn't put my finger on it, but now I was starting to get kind of freaked out. Knox had hurt himself pretty badly, from the looks of it, because he'd fell right down on his tailbone. But Bryan just stood there, sneering at us.
The he did something that aroused my fear even further.
He held out his hand and pointed it towards the desk beside Knox. He flicked his wrist in Knox's direction, and the table moved. It followed his movements and slammed against my brother, and from the crack, I knew his shoulder had been dislocated. He didn't even scream. The desk had hit his head, too, and his eyes simply rolled to the back of his head and he collapsed in my arms.
"KNOX!" I yelled, shaking him. I felt tears sting my eyes. This was beyond crazy. What the hell was this guy!? How did that table even move? That defied every law of physics I knew, and it simply wasn't possible. For a moment I thought I may have been hallucinating, but hallucinations didn't knock people out, and Knox was out cold.
This wasn't real. It couldn't be real.
I looked up to see Bryan's sneer only grow.
"What the hell are you?" I asked, my voice shaking. It was on the border of bursting from anger and breaking from worry. I needed to get Knox to the nurse. His arm was bent funny, and his head was bleeding. How could that table hit him with such a hard force!?
Bryan chuckled, which sounded unnerving.
"Aww, is little Dakota scared for her brother? Poor little Dakota..." he puckered his lips, and laughed again. "WHAT ARE YOU!?" I screamed. How did no one hear us? This classroom wasn't even that secluded.
"Oh, they didn't tell you, did they?" Bryan mused. He examined his nails and shrugged. "Well, I guess you'll just die in oblivion then." He snickered.
Now I was properly terrified. My brain couldn't comprehend what was going on here. I'd just seen this guy do something impossible, and even if I did write that off as a sick magic trick, Knox was passed out in my arms, and I had nowhere to go, not with Bryan blocking the one exit. Whatever he was doing, it wasn't exactly natural, I could tell. Fear crowded around my heart and threatened to pull me under as well, but I couldn't give in. Because if what this lunatic was saying was true, Knox was in danger.
"You're not harming my brother, nutjob." I wiped the tears that had made their way down my cheeks. I placed Knox's head gently on the ground. He was still bleeding, but he could hold off a little longer. I stood up shakily. I was terrified, but I pushed my fear down.
Bryan simply laughed again. "Oh right, I forgot. So what're you going to do, huh, Audayne? Kill me? I'd like to see you try." What had he called me? Audayne? I was about to ask him what the hell he was talking about, when he pointed to another desk. Before I could react, the desk flew towards me and knocked me off my feet. I landed on the ground with a hard jolt, and stars flooded my eyesight.
Now I knew this wasn't natural. No one could make things move like that. I started to pick myself off the ground, when Bryan walked up to me and kicked me in the rib cage, sending me sprawling again. I rolled onto my back as he picked my head up by my hair. I was crying now, because I knew I was powerless against this guy. Even without the freaky crap that was going on, he still overpowered me in brute force.
"Please, please, just let my brother go." I begged him. He made a sad face. "Aw, but I can't do that. I was sent to kill both of you." He sneered again and slammed my head against a nearby chair's seat. I could feel my nose break as blood filled my nostrils. I tasted blood too, and knew that I had bitten my lip. The pain that coursed through me was almost as bad as the fear.
I couldn't get my mind around it. I couldn't die like this! I couldn't! And if I died, he would kill Knox too...
He picked up my head and slammed it against the chair again, breaking my nose further. I was now crying gibberish, but he wasn't remorseful. After repeating his actions one more time, he threw me over to where Knox lay.
I was now numb from terror and agony. I couldn't even feel my face. I knew Bryan was walking over to me. I managed to crane my neck upwards and look at his disgusting face. I hoped my look was one of pure hatred.
"Well, I guess this is Good bye then." he laughed. He raised his hand, probably to do some more freaky unnatural stuff to us, and possibly kill us. I closed my eyes, waiting for the inevitable.
It never came.
The door was blasted open.
Literally. A huge gust of wind blew the lock apart and the door fell open, to reveal Parker standing in the doorway, his hands outstretched. What was he doing here?
I wasn't about to complain though.
But then what happened next became slightly too much for my brain to handle.
Parker thrust out his hands like he was pushing something away from himself, and Bryan flew backwards, off his feet, as though the gust of wind that had opened the door had now battered against him. Parker pointed to a chair, and it flew towards Bryan, who picked himself up in time and sliced his hand through the air in the chair's direction.
The chair blew apart into a million pieces.
I made a sound squeakier than a squeaky bath toy. I'm not proud of it, but I couldn't believe my eyes. I was literally watching the impossible. This wasn't human. What I was witnessing wasn't human. And Parker too...
I looked at him with fear-filled eyes. He looked at me with firm ones. His jaw was set hard as Bryan turned to face him.
"Another Audayne?" he sniggered. There it was again. That word. Audayne. Parker let out what I could only describe as a low growl.
"Stayaway from my friends." He threatened. Bryan wasn't buying it. "Fine. I'll killyou too." The new boy shot back. He stuck out his hands towards his sides, palms facing Parker. His palms started to glow red hot, but now, I had seen somany unnatural things, this wasn't new. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if thebogeyman came riding through a window on a unicorn showering confetti. My brain was on an overdose of weirdness.
Parker fixed me with a look. It was clear, his message, but he still said the words, his voice strong and authoritative, demanding to be obeyed.
"Get back, and stay back."

A/N: Hello guys!! I'm here with my second story, but this obviously isn't a fan fiction. I've had this idea for quite a while now, and decided to write it down. Do tell me what you guys thought!!
Feel free to tell me any mistakes and any ways I can improve as an author. I know this first chapter may have been slightly confusing, but that's because it's narrated by these two, and these guys are pretty confused themselves. I promise things will get clearer as the chapter appear.
I'll try to update as often as possible!! :)
Oh and the picture at the top is how I imagined Knox. Feel free to check out the rest of the cast!! :)
Please vote and comment!! Thanks so much for reading and hope you liked it!!
