Here Comes The Summer

Tobias' POV
Two years ago, I had the most wild and crazy summer I've ever experienced.

Full of partying till we passed out, terrifying kidnapping and torture, and the craziest of all; my werewolf mate.

That was the year my fangs came through, so my parents thought it would be great to let me celebrate by going to London for a couple of months. They, of course, took me for my first hunt the weekend following my new upgrade.

•••

Bustling commuters, travelling tourists and me; Tobias. All of us moving along the platform to each of our respective carriages.

It was packed in my carriage, everyone was packed against each other like a tin of sardines. I barely had any room for my chest to expand as I breathed in the thick, hot and musty air.

Other passengers squeezed past each other until I was pressed into this hot, business style guy, looks about early 20s, wearing a black suit and tie. I tried to avoid eye contact as much as possible, deciding to look down at his briefcase. The hand holding it wore a beautiful golden ring; married. Figures... He's too hot to be single.

Not sure why I got my hopes up for a second there. Maybe I just need to get laid...? Probably.

If you haven't noticed, yup. I'm gay. Really fucking gay. And no, I don't have a boyfriend.

I sighed, looking nonchalantly towards my phone, which I had managed to squeeze out of my pocket and held it at a reasonable distance from my face. I opened up a messaging app to read a text talking about the supernatural party in some abandoned underground tunnels. This means not only am I,  a vampire, invited, but any other non human being like werewolves, pixies, sirens, hybrids, creepy sewer turtles who like pizza, and all that.

It's this weekend, so I have time to consider it. First I'm just gonna focus on arriving safely at wherever the heck I'm staying.

That reminds me. Where am I staying?

I tapped the screen a few times and held it to my ear, listening to it ring.

"Toby? What's wrong dear boy?" I could hear my dad ask through the smartphone.

"I was just wondering where I'm staying, I don't think you told me." I replied, glancing around the packed train.

"Ah. Sorry about that, lad. You're on the train now, right? Taking you into London? Now, you should head to ..." he continued, then stating an address.

"Why there? It's not a hotel address" I asked, not recognising the address as a hotel one.

"Ah, well, you'll be staying with a very good friend of mine. He has a daughter your age, you know. Very lovely young lady." He explained.

"Dad. You're not gonna make me date her. I'm not interested." I sighed. They don't know I'm gay, so they try to play cupid every time I meet a girl. It's uncomfortable  for both me and whoever they think is a good match.

"When are you going to get a wife, son? You've been depressed and single for over a thousand years now. Come on, son. Find someone to make a family with." He sighed sincerely.

"Dad... look. I have something I need to get off my chest. Now that I'm going away for a while, it will give some time to contemplate it. Okay?" I explained, stress sweating a little.

"Son, you can tell me anything. I can't promise I won't be upset or mad, but I can promise I'll still love you just the same." He replied sincerely.

Oh god I'm tearing up.

"Thanks dad. It means a whole lot to me. What I wanted to say... is that... I'm gay, dad. I like men. The reason I can't get the wife that you and mom have been hoping for, is that I don't like women in that way." I choked out. The whole carriage was silent except me.

"..." he was silent.

"D-dad...?" I panicked.

"Son, I'm so, so sorry... I didn't think! It's ok. I still love you. Oh god... am I a bad parent? To not know my son is being hurt by what I say..." he replied.

I smiled through my mild sniffling and tears.

"It's okay dad. You didn't know. You're not a bad parent, you're the best dad I could wish for" I sniffled.

"Awwww" the passengers cooed, all genuinely happy for me.

"Thank you son. I love you. Do you want me to tell your mother?" He asked.

"I'd like to call later and tell her myself, when she gets back from work. Thanks though." I beamed, smudging my wet cheeks with my sleeve.

"Okay. Talk to you then, kiddo. Love you!" He smiled before hanging up.

"Bye, dad" I managed to say before the familiar beep of the phone, signalling the end of the call.

The train came to a stop below the area I needed to be in, so I politely pushed past some other passengers who smiled at me and waved as I left.

Well that was wierd.
