Chapter Thirty-Two

Peter

As the party carried on in the ballroom, I was over by the tables, filling a plate with food. Fiona and Ricardo were busy playing host with Leo and mother to help them.

Though I did like parties, I preferred the ones that were wilder and more unplanned compared to...these. But since it was for Fiona's wedding, I promised to behave. I made my way over to Thalia and offered my plate to her. "Want something?"

She looked over it before grabbing a simple sandwich. "You're such a light eater." I teased, taking a bite out of a chicken leg

"No, it's not that! I just I don't want to ruin this dress. Imagine if I had to walk around for the rest of the party with a barbecue stain on me or something. It's embarrassing just thinking about it!" Thalia said as she used her free hand o mess with the cape of her dress. "I already feel like I don't fit in here."

"Thalia, of course you fit in here! You're with us, remember?" I said shooting her a warm smile.

"Bringing a dog on a family vacation doesn't make it human." She stated.

I blinked. Then furrowed my brow. Thalia really didn't like being here did she? Maybe I could sneak her out of here somehow. But how? Mother and Leo were watching me like hawks to make sure I didn't cause any problems. I'm sure ditching would cause a problem to them.

Then realized it: The dance floor! If Thalia and I could blend into the countless people dancing, it would be completely easy for us to sneak out.

"I'll be right back." I told her. She cast me a confused glance, but before she could question anything, I placed down my plate on a nearby table and made my way over to the DJ. My request was simple: A slow song. That would get plenty of people on the floor.

By the time I made my way back over to Thalia, the slow song had started and plenty of couples were making their way to the floor, including Fiona and Ricardo.

I held out my hand to Thalia. "Care to dance?" I asked. She raised her eyebrow at me, but still placed her hand in my own. I expertly whisked her onto the dance-floor, and we began to sway with the other couples.

I looked around. The door was quite a few feet away. It would take some expert maneuvers to get us out of here without raising suspicion.

"What are you doing?" I turned around to look at Thalia, who still wore her wary look.

I smirked in return. "Nothing! Can't a guy dance with his girlfriend?"

"Not when that guy is Peter Ronan." She stated with a small smile. "Plus, your eyes have that look in them. That look only appears when you're up to something."

I blinked and felt my cheeks heat up in embarrassment. "Oh. Well damn."

"Come on, Peter. Spill. What's going in in that head of yours." Thalia demanded.

"Well, to put it bluntly, I'm trying to sneak us out of here."

It was then that Thalia's eyes grew a gleam. "Seriously?" She asked. "But won't people notice you're gone?"

I shrugged. "Its not my party anyway. No one will miss me at all. Now, just follow my lead and we'll be good to go."

I led Thalia across the dance-floor and winced as she stepped on my feet in her heels. "Sorry!" She rushed. "I don't usually do ballroom dancing."

"That's fine. Just loosen up and glide with me." I said with a small smile. Thalia looked up at me with those big innocent blue orbs of hers then bit her bottom lip and nodded, looking down at her feet. "No, no, no." I said, tilting her head upward so she was looking at me. "Don't worry about looking at your feet, okay? Focus on me."

Thalia followed my advice and focused on me as we swayed. Our dance moves grew less forced and more loose and graceful. "You're doing awesome." I told her with a smile. "Now, I'm going to spin you and we're going to slide back, okay?" I said. She nodded and just like that, we smoothly traveled backwards.

"Okay so the door is right to our left so-"

Thalia turned her foot the wrong way and she barely caught herself. Several people turned to look at us and Thalia's face exploded in a red hue. "

"Peter, everyone is looking at us." She whispered.

I squeezed her hand lightly with a smile "Really?" I asked as I guided her across the floor with a small chuckle. "I hadn't noticed."

I gave her one final spin, her dress swirling around her feet and her cape following suit.

"Okay, I'm going to open the door and we're going to bounce." I said.

"Believe me, I'm ready." She muttered. I smiled in return.

"Ready? Go!" I smoothly opened the door, and as though we weren't just dancing a few moments ago, Thalia swept out of the room. I followed closely behind her.

Thalia buried her face in her hands when I shut the door. "Gosh, I'm such a bad dancer!" She groaned.

"For someone who doesn't do ball dancing too often, you sure did do a good job." I smiled.

Thalia looked up at me again with those blue eyes that drove me crazy. "Really?"

"Yeah!"

She smiled softly and I walked over and pressed a kiss onto her head. "So, how are you? Is this breather good for you?" I asked.

She nodded. "Yeah, but I don't just want to stand out here. Are we allowed to go to the living room and watch TV or would that get you in trouble?"

"I'm sure nothing will get me into more trouble than I already am, so let's go." I said, placing a hand on the small of her back and leading her towards the stairs that lad to the living room. It was then I remembered the gift I had for her. Now would actually be the perfect time to give it to her!

"On second thought," I began, stopping in my tracks and turning to her. "I have a little something for you." I smirked.

"Wait, really?" She asked, her eyes alight with curiosity.

"Of course I do! I've had it for a while, now. I just haven't gotten around to actually giving it to you. But we have some time now!" Her eyes lit up and I grinned. "Wait here. It's in the car. I'll be right back, okay?"

She nodded and I leaned down to kiss her quickly before I left, smiling softly.
