Chapter Thirty-Nine

Peter

I stared at the garbage bag in the center of the room. Toni deserved this. That little bitch. She had no family or friends who would be looking for her, as far as I knew. The mob was all she had.

But apparently, she didn't think highly enough of us to be loyal.

Rhys clapped me on the shoulder, interrupting my thoughts. "Are you going to keep glaring at that body bag for the rest of the night, or what?" He joked.

I scoffed and rolled my eyes at his joke. "Wouldn't you like to know." I mumbled.

"Leo told me to call in the cleaning crew to deal with the body, and since Corey drove off with Thalia, I don't have a ride right now, so mind if I hitch a ride with you?"

"What if I said no?" I asked, with a small smile.

"Then, I'd have to call an uber and I really don't feel like being interrogated right now." Rhys grinned cheekily, satisfied with his response. It probably took all three of his braincells to formulate that sentence.

I shrugged. "Fair enough." I said. "Let's go."

Rhys slid into the shotgun seat and I turned on the car. Leo, Fiona and Ricardo all pulled out ahead of us and we drove away from the warehouse.

Driving with Rhys was never an easy feat. He was a nonstop chatterbox who always found a way to have the car filled with the sound of his voice. I wouldn't say it was annoying, per say. It was more so a minor aggravation. But Rhys was Rhys and the more you hung out with him, the less his incessant talking annoyed you.

The house was soon in view and Rhys stopped, mid conversation, much to my relief. Simon opened the door and greeted us all with the usual respectful welcome.

As we all stepped into the house, the first person we saw was mother at the island kitchen.

"Well, you all have come back rather late." She said, taking a sip of her wine as she scrolled through whatever was on her phone.

"We had business to take care of." Ricardo said, taking off his suit jacket.

"Ah. I see." Mother hummed. "I won't pry any further. I know how hush hush you all are when it comes to your fun." She stood up from the island and placed her glass in the sink.

"I wouldn't call murder fun, mother. Taking a life is never fun." Leo stated, running a hand through his hair.

"Speak for yourself. That bitch ruined my wedding and forced me to postpone my honeymoon! I'm glad she's six feet under right now." Fiona huffed.

"More like three. I hope the cleaning crew digs her a rather shallow grave." Ricardo added.

I suppressed a snicker as Leo turned to her with a horrified look. "Fiona! Ricardo!" He gasped.

Fiona gave him a confused look. "What?" She asked innocently.

Leo shook his head before leaving and heading off towards the living room, Fiona, Ricardo, Rhys, and I following suit.

It was then I realized how quiet the house was. Well, quieter than usual. Corey and Thalia should have been home by now. So why had they not come to greet us?

Come to think of it, I didn't even see Corey's car in the garage when we pulled up. Fear set into my heart as I immediately jumped to the worst-case scenario.

'Calm down', I told myself. 'Maybe, they just...parked somewhere else...' I scoffed at my own shitty excuse. Where else would they park?

Simon walked past and I turned to him. "Hey Simon, have Corey and Thalia arrived home yet?"

Simon shook his head. "You, Rhys and your siblings were the first to arrive back home, sir." He replied. I nodded as he walked away.

Maybe they were just running late or something. I pulled out my phone and dialed Thalia's number. Unfortunately, it rung until it was forced to go to voicemail. Perhaps her phone had died. She was always forgetful like that.

Corey, however, was not. So, when his phone did the same thing as Thalia's, the fear in my heart doubled.

"Leo!" I yelled as I clomped up the stairs. If anyone knew what to do at a time like this, it was him. I rapped loudly on his door and he answered, in his pajamas with a glare on his face.

"Are you kidding me, Pete? I'd literally just gotten into bed! It's like eleven o'clock and I have to be up at four tomorrow for work so-"

"I think something happened to Corey and Thalia on their way here." I rushed, cutting him off.

He blinked at me in confusion. "What?" He asked.

"Have you noticed that they're not here yet? And where was Corey's car when we pulled up?"

Leo's brow furrowed for a moment as he thought. "Let's check Thalia's room. Like I said, its eleven o'clock. Perhaps Corey dropped her off and went home."

It was just like Leo to look for a logical explanation before he allowed himself to worry. But I fear there was no other explanation to what was happening right now.

I shook my head at him. "Simon already said that they didn't come home. We were the first people to get here.

Leo ran a hand through his hair, and he sighed. For a moment, I thought he was being oddly calm about the situation.

"DAMN IT!" He hissed, slamming a fist to the wall beside him. I jumped slightly and Leo rushed back into his room before reemerging in changed clothes. "Go get Fiona, Rhys and Ricardo."

He walked past mebriskly on his way to the stairs. "We've got to find Thalia before someone elsedoes. If they haven't already."
