08: LAWRENCE, KANSAS

Chapter eight: not edited

The nights became hours, while the hours turned into minutes. That's how Rory Moore felt after a few weeks without Sam and Dean. He needed the space - space from all the secrets and lies that seemed to unravel from the Winchester brothers. Lies seem to follow Rory in every location. He can't escape, no matter how many times he tries to push past it.

Lights flashed around the blonde's head, pulling him away from his inner thoughts. His thoughts consisted of negative energy that soon filled his entire body with different emotions. Anger, sadness, betrayal, and understanding were some of the tiny things that he felt. At this moment, he couldn't let that define him. He knew eventually he'll have to go back and face Sam. But, he didn't know when.

"Now why are you at a bar this early in the morning?" A voice said from behind him.

A sigh left the back of his throat when he sensed the man behind him. He didn't understand why people have to bother him at this moment. Didn't he look annoyed? Or even agitated? Why does everyone think it's an invitation to get into his personal space? If he had the energy to snap at the man he would, but now? He doesn't even really care.

"Drinking. What else do you do in a bar?"

The man chuckled while motioning to the empty stool next to him. "Do you mind if I sit?"

"No- wait, you're the guy from the motel!" Rory frowned at how the guy randomly found him in the bar a few states away. "No offense to you man, but were you following me?"

"I work here in Kansas." The man says with a smile. "I'm Leo by the way."

He eyed him suspiciously. "Rory."

Rory glanced over at him and really looked at him. The way Leo's hair was messy with tousled hair and how his eyes seemed to be lit with gold fire. He was the definition of a beauty. Even though he was mad at Sam, Leo would never replace him. That was a fact.

Leo looked around the room noticing that the man's friends weren't there. "You're alone."

"What gave that away?"

"Well, for one, I didn't see your guard dogs near you. The one you call your friends." Leo says while taking a seat next to the blonde. "Is everything alright?"

"Yeah, everything's fine." Rory lied through his teeth. He didn't want to bother anyone with his issues- especially someone he just met recently.

"You know, I may not know you that much, but I can tell that you're lying."

Rory took a sip of his drink. "How'd you guess that?"

"Rory, your face screams emotions that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Now, tell me the truth."

"Why do you care? You don't even know me, Leo."

That was a good question. Why would Leo care about him? They've just met, learned each other names, etc. Leo just walked into his life like a hurricane and brushed up against him. But it wasn't like the man was going to stay in it- Rory wouldn't let him.

"I don't know you, you're right, but that doesn't mean I can't help." Leo pointed out to the man. "Besides, you look like someone who needs someone to talk to- get your mind off things."

Rory signaled for another beer before sighing. "It's just a friend, a great friend of mine, had lied to me. He kept secrets, dark secrets that should've been talked about the day I reunited with him and his brother. Now, his brother doesn't know about the secrets, I was the only who heard and let me tell you something, I've never wanted to punch someone in the face so bad."

"What was the secret?" Leo questioned with curiosity.

But Rory didn't hear his question, he kept on rambling. "I mean, I can understand why he kept it from me, but we were growing so close and I felt like I ruined our friendship by me leaving him in the motel room."

Leo's eyes lit up, realizing who he was talking about. "You're talking about the guy from the motel room? The one who grabbed your hand?"

A blush appeared on the blonde's face, making a prominent grin to appear on Leo's face. "It was, wasn't it? Man, you have great taste."

"Sam is great, he's everything a man can ask for." Rory had a fond smile on his face. But then his smile flipped into a frown. "Do you think it was wrong for me to leave?"

Leo sighed. "No. Your actions were justified. He kept something from you. Even though I don't know how serious the secret was, it's still rude and hurtful."

"Yeah, it was."

A slow silence fell upon them- making Rory twirl his finger on top of the beer bottle with the frown still on his face. He never meant to hurt Sam or his feelings, but keeping secrets that involved his sister wasn't something he should've kept from him. If Sam came clean before the whole revealing secrets from Bloody Mary thing happened, he would've stayed.

"I think you should go back."

"What?" Rory removed his finger from the top of the beer bottle, turning to look at the man next to him.

"Rory, life is too short to hold grudges against someone." Leo folded his arms across the bar counter. "Find him, make the boy apologize, and get married. You guys would be cute together."

Rory blushed again. "I don't think I can ever get with someone like Sam. He doesn't deserve me."

"Any man would've been lucky to have you."

Rory Moore sat in the stolen car that he had found on the side of the road before starting it up slowly. He had texted Dean Winchester to see where him and his brother are currently located, wanting to join along for the ride. When his phone buzzed, he quickly pulled it out to see that Dean had replied to him. Quirking an eyebrow, he unlocked his phone and read the text message.

From Angry Spice:
Where have you been, man? Sam has been moping around for weeks! You're so lucky I'm not there. I'll punch you in the face for hurting my little brother.

To Angry Spice:
Not if I punch you first ;)
Anyways, Angry Spice. Where are you guys?

From Angry Spice:
First off, ew. Stop hitting on me before I shove my foot up- you know what, just meet us at this address. I know you're in Kansas.

Rory frowned, how did Dean know where he was? Unless, he had placed a tracking device on his phone. That's the only explanation that came to his mind. Sam must have done it, unless Dean suddenly started to care for him. So with a huff, he pulled out of the bar's parking lot, not knowing someone was watching him leave.

After a few hours of driving, Rory had finally made it to his destination. Which was at a small building with the sign, 'Missouri Moseley' written on it. Who was this woman? Why was Sam and Dean visiting her? Why where they in Lawrence anyways? Was something wrong? Did they find a case?

"Sam, Dean, where are you?" Rory walked through the front door to see the pair of Winchester brother's sitting next to each other.

At the sound of his voice, Sam looked away while Dean gave him a glare. "What took you so long?"

"I'm sorry, princess. There was traffic and other things that don't need to be discussed." Rory took a seat across from Sam, who was still not meeting his eye. "So what did I miss?"

"You mean after the night when you walked out on us, more importantly my brother?" Dean stated angrily. "He needed you and you weren't here."

"Dean, stop." Sam spoke quietly- not wanting a fight to break out. "It's not worth it."

"No, Sam. This asshole needs to learn his place-"

A sound of footsteps where coming closer and that didn't stop Dean from running his mouth. Harsh words were exchanged before a booming voice was heard. "Alright. Knock it off, both of you. There's no need to cause a scene in my waiting room."

"Yeah, Dean. No need to cause a scene."

"Oh shut up Rory."

Sam rolled his eyes at his brother's response, annoyed that they're bickering like children. He wasn't that upset at the blonde, but more at himself. He should've told Rory the truth about his dreams. Even though the truth could've changed the outcome of their situation, he was still scared.

The woman copied Sam's actions before clearing her throat. "Sam and Dean, come on already, I ain't got all day."

"What about me? Can I come?" Rory pouted, making Dean grumble, 'I'm going to hit him' under his breath.

"Of course, I wouldn't leave Sam and Dean's new friend out here alone."

The woman, known as Missouri, motioned for them to follow her into another room. The room was similar in size, yet, it had a lot of paintings and pictures on the four walls of the secluded area. Unlike the lobby, it had beads running down the main entrance and a door lined with other things. In definition, her office was pleasing to the eye.

"Well, lemme look at ya." She laughs, glancing at Sam and Dean thoughtfully. "Oh, you boys grew up handsome." Then, she turns to look at Dean with her finger pointed. "You were one goofy-lookin' kid, too"

Rory snickered at that. "I bet he was."

"Rory you're one to talk. Sam showed me some of your old photos." Dean smirked when Sam let out a loud groan. "You aren't good looking either as a kid."

"Dean, you weren't supposed to tell him!" Sam was appalled that Dean would run his mouth like that. He didn't want Rory to know that he kept photos of him and Jess as kids in the car. Even though he didn't know them back then, it made him wish he did.

"You have photos of me when I was younger?" Rory glanced at him in surprise.

"Yeah. Jess gave them to me." Sam says with a small smile. "It's something that helps me remember."

"Could I see them some time? I didn't see many photos of myself when I was younger. I couldn't. Not after everything I've been through."

Sam's face softened. "Of course."

He was about to open his mouth to reply when Dean's voice cut through. "Well, this is nice and all, but could we get back on the reason why we're here in the first place?"

Rory gave Dean a harsh glare before walking over to the seat that was opposite from the couch that Sam taken over. The boy didn't   understand why he couldn't sit by Sam. Maybe it was because the other Winchester kept shooting him dark looks and glares- something that made him unsettled.

"Your fathers missing?" Missouri casted a worried glance over to Sam and Dean when they finished explaining their situation. "How long?"

"Almost two months now." Dean replied curtly. "Sam and I are on the road to find him. But his trail is getting slimmer every day."

"So what are you doing here? You think I have the answers."

"No, we don't. But that's not the reason why we're here." Sam spoke up before his brother could. "There's something in our old house- something dark and sinister. We wanted to know if you have any insight for us-"

"Somethings in the old house? How'd you know?"

Sam and Dean shared a look. "We just do."

Sam didn't want to explain his most recent dream to Missouri, not when Rory was in the room. He didn't want to freak out the boy even more than he already has. The younger boy enjoyed the blondes company, so losing him would hurt more than it should. But at this moment, he knew that he must discuss it, even when it'll bring opposite reactions.

"The folks that live there now, have they noticed anything unusual?" She questioned them.

That's when Sam started to explain everything - them going to the house, meeting the owner and her kids, how the daughter explained she saw something in her closet and it was on fire. That caused Rory to swallow hard. He didn't like the idea of investigating anything that deals with fire, not after Jess and his parents.

"I'll go grab my coat so I can see for myself." Missouri pushed herself off the chair she was sitting in before going in another room, leaving the three of them alone.

Apparently, Missouri is psychic - meaning she can read frequencies and other things in houses or anything at all. She was a nice lady who seemed to care about Sam and Dean a lot, but Rory felt like she was hiding things. Hiding things wasn't something Rory liked, but if it came down to protecting people than he understood. That simple thought made a frown appear on Rory's face.

Maybe Sam was protecting him in the first place.

"Sam, wait a second." Rory grabbed the boy's hand, tugging him away from Dean, who walked back into the motel room.

Rory explained to Dean that he wanted to apologize to his younger brother, which he agreed that it needed to be done. But in other words, Dean threatened him right after. 'If you hurt my brother one more time, I'm going to strangle you' - the only thing that came out of his mouth. Sam was lucky to have Dean in his life.

"What? I'm fine, Rory."

Yesterday was a huge day for all three of them - including Missouri as well. When they visited the Winchester's childhood home, they were greeted by paranormal fright throughout the day and night. After Rory helped Sam and Dean with the lady living there and her kids, Sam got trapped in the house with Dean running after him. The blonde was scared but once both of the boys came out, his worry lessened.

"Come on, Sam. You don't need to lie to me. I know seeing your mother as a ghost would've been hard on you." Rory tried to get the boy to open up to him.

"I'm not lying. Besides, I thought you weren't talking to me. Remember?" Sam's face fell at the thought of the boy being mad at him. "The words monster still ring in my head."

Rory flinched. "Sam-"

"Your words hurt, more than Dean has ever hurt me with his words." Sam snapped, his nose flaring. "Am I just a monster to you? A freak who sees things before it happens?"

"You're not a monster to me- your Sam Winchester." He breathed out. "Your someone special to me, okay? I know I said some things that I shouldn't have, and for that, I'm sorry."

Sam looked at him before nodding. "I accept your apology, Rory. But don't think I won't still be mad at you."

"I wouldn't bet on it." Rory grinned before a thought occurred to him. "Can you show me the pictures now?"

"Of course."
