02: THE START OF SOMETHING

Chapter Two: not edited

"I'm here looking for answers, Sam." Rory informed, crossing his arms over his chest. His eyes were narrowed into slits - anger still radiating through his veins. Before Sam could utter out another word, Rory snapped just by looking at him.

He launched his fist forward, punching the boy right in the face. Blood poured out of Sam's nose - shock written on his face while he clutched it in pain. After the few weeks Rory had, he needed to release some of the anger he had bottled up towards the Winchester boy. It wasn't much, but it fueled him enough to punch him again.

"What the hell?!" Sam shouted, grabbing the napkins from the wooden table. He needed to stop the bleeding before it became worse - knowing that his brother didn't want to go to the emergency room or anything like that.

"That's what you get for not answering your phone, asshole." Rory clenched his teeth in anger. The only thing he could see was red in his vision. He knew punching Sam wasn't the answer, but he couldn't help it.

"Did you really have to punch me in the face?" Sam questioned the blonde. But before Rory could answer - Dean decided to make a statement.

"I'm sorry, but this is just amusing." The boy sitting across from Sam laughed in amusement. Dean didn't know why he was laughing, but the sight of Sam withering in pain made him chuckle. It wasn't like Sam deserved it. He was the one avoiding Rory for the last couple days.

"Not helping, Dean." Sam groaned while holding multiple napkins against his nose. A shot of pain went through him- it was like he almost broke that part of his body. The feeling of pain made him want to bash Rory's head into the wall, but he knew that wouldn't do any of them good. "Look, Rory. I'm sorry - I didn't mean to avoid you. I've been dealing with some personal things with my brother."

Rory glanced over at Dean, who winked at him in return. "What kind of things?" He questioned. "Is killing my sister one of them?"

Sam felt like Rory punched him in the face again. No one so far had accused him of killing his girlfriend - but he should've expected that from Rory Moore. He was the type to jump to conclusions rather than learn the facts.

"Watch your mouth." The boy with similar features to Sam said sternly. He knew that if he didn't step in - a fight would probably break out between them both. "Sam, sit down. There's no reason to cause a scene."

Rory tightened his jaw, feeling the bone contract into his pale skin. He didn't mean to lose control, especially when it came to hitting Sam in the face. The blonde locked eyes with the Winchester boy - noticing his usual dark colored eyes were swelling with tears. His words must have hurt Sam badly.

At the sight of his watery eyes, Rory's posture became less hostile - his eyes softening slowly. He instantly felt a pang of regret, knowing his words hit the younger boy hard. Taking a deep breath, Rory tried to calm his racing heart down to the minimum beat. When the boy felt his heart calming down, he pulled out the chair next to Sam's brother, sitting down quietly.

Sam let out a shaky breath before folding his arms on top the wooden table. "Rory, I know that you're angry-"

"I wonder what gave that away?" Rory interrupted the blonde with a wave of his hand. He didn't mean to be sarcastic, but ever since Jessica died, he can't seem to remain calm. "So, why are you in Wisconsin? Are you running from the police?"

"Why would I run away from the police?" Sam gave him a look of confusion. He couldn't understand why the blonde was being so hostile towards him. It wasn't his fault that Jessica died, even though he still blames himself for it.

"I don't know, Sam. Why don't you tell me? Maybe then, I'll learn the truth."

Rory knew he was pushing Sam's buttons, but honestly, he didn't care. He wanted the truth from him. Even though Sam may not know anything, he just wanted to hear him say that. So Rory kept on talking about things that would make the Winchester boy snap. And when he did, Rory was shocked at his reaction.

"You want the truth? Well, so do I." Sam snapped at the blonde, his eyes lit with fire. He was two seconds away from bashing the blonde's head into the table - if he didn't stop making stupid comments. "I didn't kill Jessica, Rory. I loved her with all my heart. If you can't get that through your thick skull, then somethings wrong with you."

Everyone around them turned to see what the commotion was about - and when they did, Rory sank down in his chair with embarrassment. This is why he doesn't go out in public. He always seems to disturb the peace with his irrelevant questions and comments. The blonde can't count how many times he had been kicked out of places for his mouth.

"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings." Rory stuttered over his own words, appalled at how far this conversation went. "Sam, I lost everyone in my life - my parents, and now my sister. I just want my questions to be answered."

"So do I." Sam's voice softened, afraid that he was going to upset him even more. "That's why Dean and I are on the road. We want to stop this thing before it hurts anyone else."

"A thing? What do you mean a thing?" Rory's eyes widened in confusion. He glanced at Sam and Dean, who were now having a silent conversation between the two of them. "Is there something you're not telling me?"

When Sam and Dean finally broke eye contact, Dean adverted his attention to Rory. "What I am about to say to you can't leave this room, alright?"

"I can't make pr- fine, I promise." Rory sighed when Sam gave him a hard glare. He didn't like making promises - especially since he hardly knew them. "Now, tell me what's going on."

"Hold on tight, this might take awhile."

"So, you're telling me that you hunt ghosts and supernatural creatures and it's a family business, too?" Rory questioned the pair of brothers, who by the way, looked exhausted.

"Yeah, that sums it up."

After hearing the whole story about their mother being murdered brutally - he was shocked. It wasn't from how their mother was found, but how something like this could happen in the real world. How an innocent woman could suddenly die from a monster that wasn't supposed to be real. Now he understood why Jessica's death bothered Sam so much. She died the same way his mother did.

"I'm sorry." Rory blurted out, catching Sam off guard. "If I knew the truth, I wouldn't have said anything about Jessica."

"It's fine-"

"No chick flick moments, please. I already deal with that enough." Dean interrupted, looking at the newspaper in his hands. He suddenly set the paper down on top of the table - spreading it out so Sam and Rory can read it. "Here, take a look at this."

Rory leaned over Dean's shoulder to glance at the words written on the paper. He was curious to see what the fuss was about in this town. Not every town has a good article to read. But when he saw what was plastered on the newspaper, he felt his heart drop to his toes. A black and white picture of a young girl was shown right in the middle of the sheet.

"Well, this got even more depressing." Rory commented with a grimace. "How did she die?"

"She drowned." Dean replied, looking closely at the side of Sam's head. His eyes flickered to the newspaper. "I think we got one."

"Why do you say that?"

Dean turned his attention to the blonde. "According to the newspaper, Sophie Carlton is the third drowning in Lake Manitoc. None of their bodies were found either."

Rory felt his stomach hollow out in some kind of emotion that he hates to witness. Pain is one of the factors of life - everyone goes through it once in a while. Even when someone loses a love one or someone close, they have closure. But it seems like this time no one in this town does. Rory knew how it felt to have answers that couldn't possibly be answered. Since Sam and Dean explained the other world, he just hoped that the two brothers would figure out what's going on before it's too late.

"I can't even imagine what Sophie's love ones are going through." Rory had a look of sorrow on his face - one of sympathy and sadness. "Did they have a funeral?"

"Two days ago." Dean nodded in confirmation. He flipped through the newspaper, reading some of the lines. "Yeah, it's weird, they buried an empty coffin - for uh, closure or whatever."

"Closure? What closure?" Sam questioned in disbelief. He couldn't believe that someone would give up on looking for answers. "People don't just disappear, Dean. Other people just stop looking for them."

"Something you want to say to me?"

"Actually, yes." Rory spoke up before Sam had the chance to get a word out. "That jacket makes your head look small - oh, and you might want to stop going after chicks when they're more import-"

"Rory, not helping." Sam warned when he saw the look of agitation on Dean's face. He leaned forward so he could whisper to his brother. "The trail for Dad, it's getting colder every day."

"So what are we supposed to do?"

"I don't know - something, anything."

Apparently while Rory was mourning over Jessica at his apartment. Sam and Dean had been on a mission to find their Dad from whatever problem he gotten himself into. From Rory's point of view, it seemed that they haven't had much luck yet. He didn't have a good relationship with his father - ever since he came out as bisexual to him. The blonde wished that he could make it right before he died, but luck wasn't on his side.

"You know what? I'm sick of your attitude-"

"How about you tone it down, Dean? There's no need to be rude to your brother." Rory said, interrupting his sentence. "Come on, guys. We're wasting time here - more people could be drowning right now."

He didn't know what overcame him to stick up for Sam Winchester. A few minutes ago he was at the boy's throat, and now he couldn't stand the sight of him being hurt by anyone's words. Maybe it was because he could relate to Sam right now. Both of them lost someone important in their lives - making it easier to relate too each other.

The sun was high above the clouds - reflecting the whole car with light. Something about the sun always seemed to put Rory in a good mood. The warm air made his skin feel light and smooth, causing his head to relax against the back of the seat cushion in content. He could feel the rumble of Dean's car - the way it ran smoothly across the gravel of the road.

"Rory? Are you okay?" Sam's voice broke the blonde out of his thoughts. The brunette looked behind his seat to see the blonde with his eyes closed.

"Yeah? Why do you ask?" Rory opened one of his eyes to see the younger Winchester glancing at him awkwardly.

"No reason." Sam muttered lowly, turning his attention back to the road. He could feel his brother's eyes on him, but didn't spare him a look. It wasn't his fault that Rory being quiet bothered him so much.

"Oh, yeah. There's a reason, Rory. Don't let Sammy here lie to you-" Dean didn't get to finish his sentence before a smack was heard. A groan escaping the back of his throat. "What the hell was that for?"

"You know what."

Rory couldn't help but shake his head in amusement at the brother's antics. It reminded him so much of Jessica. When both of them were younger, they would always get into friendly arguments or pulling pranks on each other. The blonde swallowed hard, trying hard not to cry in front of Sam and Dean. He wanted to be strong for them, for Jessica, and himself. But it's hard to be strong when all of the impending questions in his head weren't answered. Rory glanced outside to see a huge sign by the edge of the street - knowing this might be the time to get some.
