Chapter Two

"So, what exactly happened?" asked Sierra as they walked into her apartment.

Malaysia sat down on the sofa, clasping her hands on her lap. "It's simple. We both want different things."

Sierra sat beside her, wrapping an arm around her. "I think this is for the best...Malaysia...Do you have any idea why those werewolves were hunting you down?"

"No--You know me, Sierra. I'm not really the social butterfly."

"You were extremely lucky that Connor and Elias were heading back to their home." Her eyes glistened with tears. "I don't want to imagine what would have happened if they wouldn't have been there."

At a knock on the door, Sierra narrowed her eyes. Jordan walked in, setting her purse on the coffee table. She seemed surprised to find Malaysia in the house. "Did something happened?"

"What did you come for?" asked Sierra. "It's late."

"Well, I have a date in a couple of hours and was wondering if you could let me borrow your black dress." She headed into the bedrooms not waiting for Sierra to agree. Once she returned with the dress, she paused, glancing at Malaysia. "Is everything okay?"

"Of course, go an have fun," Malaysia said with a smile.

"See you girls tomorrow at the beach!" After she exited the apartment, Sierra prepared some tea for Malaysia .

"I'm going to get some rest. Are you going to be okay?"

Malaysia nodded. Sierra hugged her before heading to her bedroom. Malaysia took a sip of her tea before sighing as she recalled all the wonderful moments with her husband. Tears fought to rise to the surface as the pain in her chest intensified. A side of her screamed for her to return to him---to work things out, but she had already tried multiple times.

She couldn't continue going in circles.

She had to be strong and move on, even if her heart was shattering to pieces.

The next morning, she woke to Sierra walking into her bedroom, speaking to someone on the phone. She turned on her side as she handed it to her. To her dismay, it was her mother. Of course, her mother began to tell her that she could not end it with Lennox. They were married and had to work things out. Honestly, she began to block out the rest.

"Mom, I'm not changing my mind."

"Darlin', You can't simply toss five years of marriage down the drain--"

She hung up on her mother, astonishing Sierra. "I'm so tired of everyone." She covered her face in her hands before the tears began to stream down her cheeks. Sierra hugged her, telling her that things would be okay in the end, but she wasn't sure.

If she decided to go through with the divorce, she feared her family would turn their back on her. They would probably hate having to tell their wealthy friends that she divorced.

"Do you want me to contact one of my friends to--"

"No...Not right now."

The worry for her wellbeing was evident in her friend's face. "Okay...Just let me know when you want to start the process--Unfortunately, I have to head to my office to write the report for what happened last night. I still can't believe Elias is seventy years old. "

Malaysia stared at her in disbelief. "How old is Conner?" Sierra laughed and Malaysia rolled her eyes. "Never mind."

"He is only twenty, which is young for a vampire. He must have been the last born in the clan."

"Why do you say that?"

Sierra hesitated, fidgeting with her sleeve. "Well...It's not something regular humans are told."

"Oh, I see." She smiled. "It's okay. Go before you're late--Wait!" Sierra paused. "How much does a blood donor get paid?"

"Why?" she asked, evidently perplexed before her eyes grew wide. "No--You went to college--You have a degree in agriculture--"

"I need a job fast, Sierra."

Sierra thought for a moment. "Becoming an available blood donor is not easy. You have to undergo many tests. We have to make sure that you can even handle the vampire kiss. It's extremely addicting...I've seen some almost grow mad by one single bite." She pointed at her. "So, get that idea out of your head. I'm the one that rejects applicants, so--"

"Fine."

Sierra went to her dresser and returned to her side with a couple of dollar bills. Malaysia tried to reject the offer, but she would not take no for an answer. Of course, she thanked her and promised to pay her back once she got a job. She also gave her a taser especially made to paralyze any supernatural being.

After Sierra left, Malaysia prepared herself some breakfast and cleaned. Then, she began to look through Sierra's clothes hoping that she could find something she could wear--Everything was so damn revealing!

She didn't have the assets Sierra did, so it was difficult to imagine if things would work for her body type. Without much options, she chose the simplest outfit of a high-wasted pencil skirt with a slit that reach all the way up to her thigh and a simple tank top that revealed too much cleavage for her liking.

Still, when she looked at herself in the full length mirror in the room, she was delighted to see that it went well with her. After preparing her hair in a half updo, she began to head out, grabbing one of the many purses Sierra owned. It almost felt like the old days, when they would borrow each other's things, knowing neither would mind.

She was out all day, trying to find any sort of job. Perhaps, she had chosen the wrong outfit. She got a weird feeling from someone who owned a coffee shop. He was willing to hire her, but she chose to reject that offer the moment he gave her a look that made her extremely uncomfortable.

Soon, the night was upon her as she began to head back to the apartments. At night, the city did not seem to sleep. There were still people rushing to their destinations, cars moving up and down the streets. When she felt as if someone was following her, she glanced over her shoulder to find a tall man walking a couple of feet behind her, smoking a cigar.

She placed her hand inside her purse as she picked up her pace. In an attempt to try to escape her pursuer, she turned into a small walkway that led to the park at the center of the city. A gasp escaped her lips when she spotted a pair getting their ass kicked.

"Hey!" Elias smiled, looking battered and bruised.

"Seems you two need aid."

Connor shot her a look. "We can handle this."

She turned but bumped into the man who had been following her. After pulling out her taser, she shoved it in the man's neck and electricity flowed through him, sending him to the ground, grunting.

"Watch out!" Elias shouted.

She turned and brought the taser up, striking the other male under his jaw before he too was consumed by electricity before falling to the ground writhing in pain. Connor and Elias took care of the other two. Without really thinking, she helped Elias with Connor, who struggled to stand.

"I can walk."

"Oh shut up and let us help you."

Elias laughed until she shot him a look.

Once they arrived at Sierra's apartment, she ordered Connor to lay on the sofa and he did. Elias stood behind the sofa, staring at his brother with clear concern. His eyes began to deepen in color before a hiss escaped his lips. "I should have known those bastards would retaliate."

"I'm sorry," Malaysia said, feeling guilty.

"Why are you apologizing?" Connor appeared annoyed that she would do such thing. "It's Elias' fault anyway."

"Wait--What?" Elias glared at his brother before shrugging. "Fine, I'll take the blame for this. You were right. We should have let the human die."

"You've become quiet a pain in my ass since Anastasia turned you into a child." Connor grunted, but pretended to not be in agonizing pain. "Clearly, that spell killed some of your braincells."

Elias eyebrows knitted together. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

"You two bicker so much is ridiculous--Take off your shirt."

She hated the smug look on Elias face. "Sorry, but it's not time for--"

"Oh, shut it." Her face became extremely hot. "I need to inspect his wounds."

"Don't worry all he needs is blood."

At that, she glanced at Elias in astonishment.

"Don't listen to him...All I need is rest." Connor closed his eyes. Malaysia was no fool. If that were true, there wouldn't be sections of his shirt soaked in blood. She stood at the center of the room, biting her nails as she waited for Sierra to arrive.

"Why did you help us?" Connor asked.

"I hate owing debts."

His smile grew from ear to ear. However, before he could say anything, Sierra walked into the apartment, freezing the moment she spotted them. She rushed to Connor's side and actually began to unbutton his shirt, revealing wounds that seemed infected.

"Why the hell did you not call me? I told you they would haunt you down."

"Well, they sort of ambushed us and my phone was smashed, so."

Sierra shot him a look. "This is twice, Elias."

"Hey, they beat the shit out of us with silver weapons because we aided your friend."

Sierra sighed. "Lets just get him fed."

When she headed to kitchen to get a knife, Malaysia took it from her. "I should do it---It's my fault this happened."

"No," Sierra said. "You've never fed a vampire before--I told you that the effects of the bite can be addicting."

"Have you?"

Her silence said it all.

"I can handle it." She made a cut on her palm and Elias appeared to make distance, clearly affected by the fragrance of her blood. She stepped closer to Connor, but Elias appeared beside her, wrapping his fingers around her wrist.

"Has your blood been tested?"

She stared at him perplexed.

Sierra was the one to answer. "No--Why would it be? She isn't a blood donor, but don't worry. She doesn't smoke or drink."

He thought for a moment actually running a finger over the blood on her palm and tasting it. His eyes deepened in color before he smiled. "There are more qualities that make a blood void--But hers seems good. Let's just hope he doesn't lose his shit." He hovered her palm just above Connor's lips for rivulets of scarlet to hit his lips.

When Elias made distance, she was bewildered for a moment before a hand grabbed her arm and pulled her closer to Connor. If it wasn't because she managed to hold on to the backrest of the sofa with her free hand, she would have fallen on top of him. Sierra moved, but Elias actually managed to hold her back. Connor's eyes deepened as he ran his tongue over the blood that stained her palm. She was enthralled, could not tear her eyes from his and began to crave the bite to the point of agony.

"Please," she begged him, surprising herself.

He obliged and bit down on her wrist, making her bite her bottom lip as she was consumed with a divine sensation that spread all over her body. Desire consumed her. Her hold on the backrest tightened as he continued to feed, intensifying the sensations. Her eyes fluttered closed as her body began to ache for his touch. His other hand came up and locked around the one she used to hold herself above him. She let go, wanting to close the distance, but Elias grabbed her by the shoulder, stopping her body inches from Connor's. Her eyes fluttered as she snapped out of the trance. Cheeks burning, she stared into Connor's eyes while Elias laughed.

Elias eyes sparkled with amusement. "Control yourself, brother. You're not alone. Besides, I thought she was annoying."

Connor finally retracted his fangs but before he released her, he bit his finger and trailed it over the bite, healing it instantly. After standing upright and making distance, she said, "So, I'm annoying?"

Connor actually laughed. "I don't recall saying that."

"Do you have anything to eat? I'm famished!"

"Sorry, but I don't have vampire food in my home," Sierra said.

"Well, that sucks." Elias sat down on the sofa across from Connor.

Malaysia glanced at them, realizing they were planning to spend the night. "What is going on?"

"Well, it would seem you have a pack hellbent on killing you, so I think it would be best if we spent the night here." Sierra stared at him with wide eyes. "I thought you've aided vampires without a place to go before."

Sierra propped her hands on her hips. "Of course--I'm on the list, but I thought you were the clan leader--"

"He was," Connor admitted.

Elias fell silent for a moment as they waited for them to explain further. "My clan sees me as unfit because I've been turned into a child." He rose to his feet, trying to look fierce but only managing to look adorable. "I'm going to teach them all. Once I change back, I'm going to kick all their asses."

Malaysia laughed, gaining all of their attention. "Sorry--but I'm starting to feel like this is a stupid dream."

The apartment had only two bedrooms, so Sierra allowed the boys to take the guest room while she and Malaysia shared the master. Clearly, even after everything, part of Sierra did not fully trust them. Although, even if they were together, these two vampires could kill them within seconds if they truly desired it.

Sierra turned on her side, a grin on her face. "So." She was whispering, obviously trying to keep their conversation private. "How did it feel? It feels like sex doesn't it?"

Her face burned with embarrassment. "You should have told me it would be that intense."

"I told you that it could be addicting...That's why humans go through tests before they become blood donors."

"So, did I pass?"

Sierra thought for a moment. "How do you feel now?"

"Okay, I guess." She no longer craved anything.

"I'm not one hundred percent sure yet--It did look like you two were about to have sex right in front of Elias and I...So, I'll have to really think about it." A silence hung in the air before their gazes met. "Are you okay?"

She inhaled in a futile attempt to not break down. "I never imagined I would be filling for divorce...Part of me--The one that still loves him--wants to make it work..."

Sierra pushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "You gave him multiple chances...He clearly doesn't love you as much as you love him. If he would, he would have never caused you any sort of pain."

Tears rose to the surface. When they trickled down her cheeks, Sierra wiped them away. "I'm not sure if I can get through this..."

"Sure you can," Sierra said with a smile, eyes sparkling with tears. "You're stronger than you think." She pulled her to a hug, one she really needed at the moment.

The next morning, Malaysia woke before everyone else. She prepared herself breakfast just as the house phone began to ring. She answered to be greeted by her mother's voice, who truly sounded concerned for her.

"I'm fine, Mom."

"I spoke to Lennox and he said you haven't return home. Mal, both of you can attend couple's therapy--"

"Mom, you're not listening at all. I want a baby...Lennox doesn't. He made that pretty clear--"

"That's a foolish reason to leave your husband. I demand--" She hung up and leaned on the wall, hating how desperately her family was trying to keep the image of perfection. Tears fought to rise as she stared into the distance.

Perhaps, they were right. No. She was not going to let them manipulate her any more.

Since she was thinking of applying to become a blood donor, she needed to get her personal items she had left behind. She contemplated for a moment before calling a cab. Once she arrived at the mansion, she paid the driver extra for him to wait and headed into the house. She searched for the spare key under the mat. She opened and ascended the stairs in the direction of her bedroom, stopping, bewildered at the sounds coming from her bedroom.

The door was left ajar and she opened it, her heart dropping the ground at the sight of the man she loved in bed with Jordan, entwined in the bedsheets. Not wasting time, she ignored both of them and decided that she would replace all her documents. Her heart ached immensely as she tried to hurry down the steps. It became difficult to breath as pain engulfed her. Lennox grabbed her by the arm and actually slammed her against the wall, knocking some air out of her.

Never before he had been physical with her.

Yes, he had lost his temper many times, but never took it to this level.

She should not have ignored the big red flag.

She was a damn fool for falling for the façade.

"Get the hell off me!" She managed to get loose and sprinted down and out of the house as tears streamed down her face. Outside, she paused, realizing the damn cap was gone.

"Malaysia, wait," She heard Jordan say from behind her.

She whirled around and slapped her across the face. "Fuck you."

Lennox somehow had actually gotten dressed fast and grabbed her by the forearm. She kicked him right where the sun don't shine and broke into a run down the driveway and into the road. She had no idea for how long she ran, but she came to a halt at a figure in the distance.

When they shifted into a werewolf, she darted into the wooded area. Perhaps it was a foolish move. However, not many cars drove down the damn road that lead to the mansion. She was screwed either way. At least, in the woods, she could find a place to hide.

She halted at the realization that werewolves could follow scent. Within seconds, a heavy weigh brought her down. Her body slammed against the forest floor as she turned to block her face from being devoured by the beast. She screamed in agony when it locked it's teeth around her arm and began to drag her across the forest floor.

Tears streamed down her face as she reached out with her other arm to grasp on to something, to find anything she could use as a weapon to no avail. She had no way out of this. She was going to die.

The second her fingers wrapped around something rough and sharp, she held it tight on her hand. When the wolf released her, she scurried to her feet and slammed the sharp rock against the side of it's face just as it launched at her again.

Now, she was sprinting through the forest like a bat from hell, sobbing out of control. She halted just as she reached the top of a waterfall when she could no longer hear the wolf. As she held a hand over her laceration, her vision began to blur.

She stumbled back against her will as pain consumed her. The wolf had ended its hunt not because they had spared her, but because she had been infected with werewolf venom, which meant that her death was inevitable.

Blazing fire spread from the bite to the rest of her body. After she lost her footing, she was freefalling, but before she hit the water below, sweet oblivion consumed her.
