Chapter One

All of her life, Malaysia dreamt of having a loving husband, and of one day becoming a mother. Was she judged by some because she chose the trophy wife lifestyle? Yes, but she had learned long ago that people judged no matter what one did. Her best friend had a career, no children, and lived alone. She was enjoying the single life to the fullest. Yet, she too was scrutinized by many.

People always found something wrong with a person's lifestyle.

Her best friend, Sierra took a bite of her favorite cupcake before narrowing her large blue eyes that stood against her sun-kissed complexion. "I know that you think the good outweighs the bad, but it seems that Lennox no longer makes you happy."

"Why would you tell her that?" Jordan said in utter disbelief. "When things get bad, you're not supposed to give up so easily."

"It's been almost a year since she felt this way." Sierra set her cupcake down on the table. "Mal, if he doesn't make you happy anymore...maybe you should think of getting a divorce."

Malaysia stared at her plate in front of her before running a hand through her long pitch-black hair. "I love him...I don't want to get a divorce."

"See--"

"Oh, Mal," Sierra interjected Jordan and reached across the table to place her hand over hers. "You want a child and he does not..."

At the sound that came from when someone walked into the dessert shop, Sierra actually became speechless at the tall man who had walked in, followed by a boy with spiky hair that seemed way too excited to get dessert.

"I was unaware they could eat like us," Jordan said, clear hatred laced in her voice.

"I was unaware of how hot they are in person," Sierra whispered before smiling. "Geez, those eyes."

Malaysia would agree that those bright red eyes did seem bewitching, but that was their intended purpose. Those eyes captivated their prey into not fighting them. "I will never understand the hatred toward them."

Jordan knitted her eyebrows together. "Because they feed on humans--That's fucking disgusting."

Sierra shrugged. "Their humans choose that...It's all consensual. They have an agreement and only feed one hundred and eighty-three days. We make sure the law is not broken." She paused, eyes glistening with tears. "Besides, the human race has done far worse than sucking someone's blood."

"Ugh," Jordan stood. "This got sour quickly. I'll see you two later." Without another word, she left. Malaysia turned her attention back to the boy, who looked just like any other human in the dessert shop. She couldn't help but smile when he caught her looking. However, when who she assumed to be his brother, glanced at her as well, she diverted her gaze, feeling her cheeks burn.

Sierra laughed and she kicked her under the table. "Ouch! You fucking bitch." Both laughed in unison. "So, let's get back to the topic."

Malaysia rested her chin on her hand. "I don't know what to do."

"You want a baby right?"

"Yes, but--"

"Clearly you two are not compatible. Mal, please don't stay by his side because you're afraid of what people will say if you two get divorced...I'm your friend and I want to see you happy."

"I'll think about it, I promise, but right now, I just want to distract myself."

"Fine, let's go watch a movie." She finished her cupcake, truly appearing to relish the taste. As they stood, Sierra dared glance at the male who had taken a seat with the boy, a way too flirtatious smile on her lips.

"You're too much."

Sierra wrapped an arm around her as they exited the shop. "Excuse me, but that man is so my type."

Malaysia raised an eyebrow. "Wait--Have you had sex with a vampire?"

Sierra choked on air apparently. "So direct."

"Sorry."

"Oh, don't worry about it." She paused before a grin pulled at her full even lips. "Remember Liam?"

"Yes." He was a tall man with brown curly hair that had bright green eyes.

"Werewolf."

Malaysia stopped walking, stunned. "W--What?"

"Hey, not all of them are out in the open. Some prefer to hide their true selves because they know not all humans are on board with this."

"It's been fifty years since the first vampire...It's become part of normal life."

"You wouldn't understand because you have never had to hide your true self in fear of how those around you would react...I've not only heard horrendous things, but I've also seen it first hand...Families are torn apart because someone chooses to be turned or it happens by force. I remember a young boy who was attacked. His attackers were punished by the clan leader, and he aided the boy. He has a blood donor and everything." She paused. "But his family turned their backs on him...claiming that their son died when he turned."

"Not everyone supports that lifestyle."

"That was his parents--Let's just go watch a movie before I get emotional."

They headed to the movie theater a couple of blocks down through the crowded streets of the city. Everyone seemed to be moving in a hurry, desperate to reach their destination. Once at the movie theater, they decided to watch a romance flick. By the time she arrived home, it was six. As usual, she did her night routine. The house was without a sign of dust and food had been prepared before she heard the front door open.

With a smile, she greeted Lennox with a kiss to the lips and an I love you, which he did not return. She stood still for a moment before following him to the massive dining room. After she sat across from him, she did not bother to eat, which he noticed and paused. "Is something wrong?"

Actual fear laced through her of even daring to bring the subject up once again. Last time, he had lost his temper...Should she even feel this way? Shouldn't she feel comfortable enough to discuss anything with her significant other?

"I've been thinking lately about a lot of stuff." Almost a year of thinking and trying to decide what would be best for them both. "I want a child, Lennox."

"Not this again." He set his fork down on the table, clearly annoyed. "You knew from the beginning that I didn't want a child."

"When we talked about it--I said that I didn't want one at that moment...I never said that I didn't want one at all."

"No--I remember us agreeing on never having children."

Did she really agree to such a thing without realizing it? She could have sworn she had been clear that she did not want children at the moment because she wanted them to enjoy fully their first years of marriage before adding a child. They had been young...perhaps too young.

"It's okay if you don't want a child..." She hesitated, noting that her hands began to quiver. "I--I want a divorce."

His eyebrows knitted together. "Because of a child? That's fucking ridiculous, Mal."

"It's not just that--"

"You're threatening me with divorce if I don't give you a child?"

"What?" She paused, perplexed. "Of course not."

"I work long hours and lately, the second I come home, you start to pester me with foolish things."

She held back tears as she stared at the table in front of her. "Foolish things? I've noticed your coldness toward me as well. When was the last time you told me you loved me?"

"Sierra is getting in your head again, isn't she?" Before she could even speak, he said, "Thanks for ruining my night. I don't have the energy for this." He stood and headed upstairs to the bedroom.

Malaysia wrapped her arms around herself as she tried her best not to break down. Lately, he did nothing but caused her pain. Her mind shifted to those moments when he made her smile when she actually enjoyed his company and felt truly happy, but Sierra was right. Those moments did not erase the bad.

She stood and headed upstairs. When she walked into the bedroom, she ignored him as she walked into her large closet and began to grab her clothes.

"What the hell are you doing?"

"I said I'm filing for divorce."

"Where exactly are you going to go? How are you going to take care of yourself?"

She tossed her clothes in her luggage. "I'll figure it out."

"Mal, you're overreacting." He grabbed her by the forearm and pulled her to him, kissing her. Like a fool, she caved and kissed him back. Silent tears streamed down her cheeks at how weak the love she had for him made her. "I love you."

Oh, so now he says it.

"I need to clear my mind." She stepped back, head hung.

"Mal, I've given you everything you've wanted--"

"You can have it all back." She removed all the jewelry and tossed it at him. It hit him before clattering to the ground.

When she tried to leave, he grabbed her by the arm and pulled her to him. "If you leave, you leave everything I've bought you."

She stared at him in utter disbelief. "I'll send the clothes I'm wearing in the mail for you." She wrenched her hand free and held her chin high. "Clearly, we've been married for five years, yet I never truly got to know the real you, until now."

As she rushed out of the mansion, she ran past her husband's guard that followed him everywhere he went. They glanced at her but did not pursue her. She had no idea for how long she ran, but her feet began to ache. After removing her heels, she stood in the middle of the road finally letting out the pain within. The wind blew in every direction as she tried to decide what she would do now.

Months ago, she had thought of leaving Lennox, but she simply had stayed by the door with her luggage. The love for him had made her stay longer, but still, no matter how much she tried to be the perfect wife, he did not change. She remembered when she had wanted to be intimate not long ago and he got mad, telling her that she had to understand that he had a long shift and came home tired. Lately, he was always exhausted to do anything she desired.

She was done with him.

She deserved someone who truly appreciated her.

At a sound, she whirled around, her long pitch-black hair fanning around her. Her heart palpitated wildly before she turned to bump into someone. She gasped and stepped back to meet the bright red eyes of the man from the dessert shop.

"Humans should know better than to be alone this late."

In contrast to the stern look she received from the tall man, the boy shot her a genuine smile that flaunted perfect white teeth. "Is something wrong?" The tall man began to walk. "Wait, Connor! Are you seriously leaving her alone? I can sniff the mutts."

Connor paused, seeming annoyed. "She is not our problem, so move."

The boy folded his arms over his chest. "Geez, Connor. And here I thought you were the nice one."

Malaysia began to walk, but the boy grabbed hold of her arm. "I wouldn't move if I was you. There are mutts following you---" He wrinkled his nose. "I can smell one on you as well."

"You're nuts." She jerked her hand free, but the boy shoved her away just as a large wolf leaped out of the darkness toward them. She stumbled forward until she fell to the ground, snarls and growls erupting all around her.

"Fucking hell, Elias. See what you got us into."

"Hey--I did not expect to find mutts here! Calm the hell down! Besides--" The boy dodged the wolf who attempted to bite his arm without effort, a smug smile on his lips. "These mutts are no match for us, brother."

Malaysia stood back to her feet and stared wide eye as Connor and Elias moved as a team. It astounded her how a young boy did not hesitate to snap a wolf's neck when he saw the chance, or use his bare hands to rip their necks apart. He even managed to grab one by the muzzle and pulled it apart, looking way too pleased as blood splattered all over his angelic face. She flinched when the last wolf dropped to the ground dead. She whirled around, not able to withstand the sight any longer, gagging.

At a hand on her forearm, she turned, taking a couple of steps back while aiming one of her heels at Elias, who seemed amused. "Stay the hell away from me!"

"If it wasn't for our aid, you'd be dead, human," Connor said, eyes glaring at her.

"Why thank you." She did nothing to hide the sarcasm as she returned the glare.

Elias chuckled, which would have seemed innocent if it wasn't for the scarlet coating most of his small figure. "I like this human."

After a few seconds, she lowered her heel. If they wanted her dead, she would be. She was no match for them. All it would take from them would be a flick of their finger and the force would probably kill her. "Do either of you have a cellphone?"

"Here."

She caught the cell phone Elias tossed her and dialed Sierra's number. "Hey! So, how did things go?"

Malaysia thought for a moment, not sure of what to say. "I'm filing for divorce." When she glanced at Conner and Elias, both seemed perplexed, as if in deep thought. "I left the house."

"Tell me where you are."

It took Sierra thirty minutes to arrive at the location. When she did, she raised an eyebrow at the sight of both vampires. "You two better not have harmed her."

"We are well aware of the rules, Human." Connor gestured at the wolves who had turned back to human, all of which Malaysia noted had been males.

Sierra shook her head, disappointed. "I can't understand why vampires and werewolves can't simply get along."

"If you could smell them, you would not want to be near them either," Elias said with a smile.

Sierra thought for a moment. "Interesting-- from what I've been told, they say vampires smell like death."

Elias guffawed. "Those mutts would say such thing to make themselves feel better."

"So, is your clan leader planning to come clean this mess?" She propped her hands on her hips.

"I've already contacted my clan to head over here," Elias said.

"What the hell is going on?" Sierra asked, clearly as stunned as Malaysia.

He was a mere child.

"Oh, forgive me, but at the moment I'm dealing with a ruthless witch--"

"He was turned into a child for messing with the wrong witch," Connor interjected.

Elias shot him a look. "You know I still can kick your ass."

"I doubt so, brother." He stepped closer and ruffled Elias' hair, which clearly irritated him. That was the first moment since they met that she saw a hint of a smile on Connor. Malaysia glanced at the lifeless bodies of the werewolves that had been pursuing her without her noticing, then back at the vampires feet from her.

If it wasn't for them, she would have been werewolf food.
