Chapter Three: Lies

"To prove your worth as Alpha," I tell her. She nods her head and shifts her weight.

"But I need to tell you something first." My eyebrows scrunch up in confusion, and I give her a strange look.

"You did not kill all of the Lunar Howlers Pack, there was one that got away, one," she whispers. My confusion only grows.

"What do you mean? I remember killing everyone," I say with a slight growl. I still remember the face of everyone I killed, and how I killed them. She shakes her head.

"Just, forget I ever said anything. Oh, do you still have the dagger you used with you?" She asks. I bite my lip in thought, before nodding.

I found my bag of weapons on the border of the pack several weeks ago, my best guess was that Jackson or Jinx had left it there.

I take it off of my weapons belt and hand it to her. She takes the handle and brings it up to her eyes.

"Long time no see?" I hear her whisper quietly before removing the hair from her neck. My eyes catch onto a small scar on the left side of her neck. She suddenly brings the knife to her neck and I panic.

"What the fuck are you doing? Give that thing back to me?!" I shriek grabbing for the dagger. She slaps my hand away and gives me a stupid look.

"Calm down, I'm not going to slit my own throat, just look at the match," she says comparing the blade to her scar. I look at the match with wide eyes, but she just drugs and tosses it back to me.

"I'm sure its only a coincidence that they match," she sighs walking up the stairs to her room. I feel so confused right now as I twirl the blade in my hands.

There is only one thing she could have meant, did I make that scar? I think to myself sadly.

Well, think about the ones you killed with that dagger, Ira tells me. I raise my eyebrow at how helpful she's being.

As I walk out the front door I do as she says. I can only think of one girl with white hair that I killed.

I had stabbed her in the neck, but I was always confused about that. I just kill however I feel at the time, but with that girl I didn't want to stab her somewhere that she would die immediately.

I can't remember why, but I have a feeling that it has something to do with Shade.

She'll tell me when she's ready, I decide with a sigh.

I think you already know, Ira snorts.

There's the lycan I'm used to, I shake my head with a chuckle.

She growls playfully and I walk down the path. I walk through the trees to the area where I had Lycans building a new house. The head builder was Garren, he was very smart, and a great builder.

I see him watching over the construction of the new house, shouting orders every few minutes. He senses my approach and turns to me with a bow of his head.

"Alpha, to what do we owe the pleasure?" He asks.

"I need you to help me draw the layout of two new buildings," I tell him. He nods and grabs two blue sheets and a white pencil. There was a table in front of him with maps of the territory.

"May I ask what for?"

"Do you remember the giant lion that came while we were in the woods?" I ask with a smile. He was one of the people from the Arena that saw Madox.

"Yeah, and you never gave us much of an explanation either," he chuckles.

"My mother, May, and her sister Lily, you met them right?" I ask. He nods, most of the pack met them so they would not be killed for coming into the territory.

"They created genetically mutated animals, that lion was one of them. Shade and I, are connected to several of the animals through our DNA. We want to bring them here, and to train some of the babies one of them had," I shrug.

"Okay, so you want the buildings to keep them here?"

"Yes, I need two. One for training, and another as a stable," I tell him. He nods and turns to the blueprints.

"Where do you want them?"

"I want the training building near my house, and the stables about a half mile away from there," I say pointing on the map.

"How many will the stables house? And what do you need in the training center?"

"Let's have eight rooms, each needs to be at least 15 by 15 feet. They can be underground too if needed, they're used to the dark. In the training center I want an underground maze, three stables of 5 by 5, and the rest I will be able to build myself," I tell him. He nods and draws the blueprints for me.

"Is this what you had in mind?" He asks, showing me the finished prints.

"Perfect, thank you. When will you be able to start building them?"

"This house is the last project we have for right now, it should be finished by tomorrow night. But we can start building now, I'll get my designer Alex to help me figure out all the details," he shrugs. I nod and look at the almost finished building.

Several Lycans without shorts were working on it, and women were painting and decorating the inside.

We got materials from the nearby town, I had a few Lycans go out every few days to collect supplies.

"So how long will it take to build the training center at least?"

"A week at least, two at the most, unless we have more wolves to dig the underground area," he explains.

"If we have any Lycans to spare, I'll send them to you. Hell, I could just use it as a punishment, its hard work so it'd be perfect," I smirk.

"Okay, is that all Alpha?"

"Yes, thank you Garren," I smile at him. He smiles back and turns back to the workers. He calls a few down and we go over to the site for the training building. He shows them the blueprints and they start working.

I watch with my arms crossed as they mark the dimensions and some dig, while others build up the sides.

I hear footsteps behind me, and sense Shade. She walks up next to me, Velox in her arms. I see the little cheetah kit bite her finger and I smirk.

"She is a tough little thing, and feisty at that," I remark with a small laugh. Sh nods and tries to free her finger, but to no avail.

"So what's going on here? New building?" Shade asks, and I nod.

"This is going to be where we keep the creatures our mothers made for us. I think they could come in handy when fighting," I tell her.

"I agree, they are very powerful and not the easiest things to get close to," she states flatly. I clutch my stomach laughing as I remember when Calypso layed on top of Shade a few months ago.

"Well, either way, we are going to train them here but the stable is being built about a half mile from here, so that the wolves don't freak out too much," I tell her once I stop laughing. She nods and looks over the site.

"Okay, well I'm going out hunting. Take care of Velox, I should be back before tomorrow but I might take a little longer," she says, handing me the kit. I scoop Velox into my arms and nod.

"You better be back before tomorrow or else I'm going to fucking to find you," I threaten with a hint of a growl.

"I promise I'll be back before then!" She yelps in surprise, making me laugh.

"I was only teasing..... Or was I?" I ask turning back to the building. She shivers before running back into the forest.

I watch for a little while before Velox starts to squirm in my arms. Rolling my eyes I let her chew on my finger while I walk back to the house.

I ask my cooks for some raw meat for Velox, and have them make something for dinner. Velox just gnaws at the meat, not quite old enough to eat it yet.

I cut it up into tiny pieces and take her to my room. I turn on the TV to watch as I play a small game with Velox.

I toss the tiny cubes of meat in the air, and watch the little ball of fur try to catch them. She just swallows the tiny cubes whole, and once she is finished eating, she lays in my lap while I watch TV.

I watch TV for a few hours and play with the kit every other hour as well. As the sun starts to go down I get a feeling that something is very wrong. Shade wasn't back yet, but I just hoped she could handle herself.

My Lycan is agitated, making me agitated as well. I pace back and forth in my room, with Velox sleeping on my bed.

Alpha, dinner is ready, One of my cooks mindlink me. I sigh and walk downstairs to the kitchen. I had two cooks at all times, they switched off though.

I sit at the counter and they hand me a bowl of pasta.

"Thank you, you two can go home now," I tell them. They smile and bow, before leaving. I hear Shade walk through the door, and she comes to sit beside me.

I look up at her when a smell hits my nose.

"You smell different," I tell her. I see panic flash in her eyes for a moment, and I try to figure out the smell.

"What do you mean? I fell in the river before I caught a rabbit," she says. I can tell she is lying, but I'm not sure why yet.

"No, you smell..... Different, I can't quite put my finger on it," I repeat, smelling the air again. She shakes her head.

"Well I am in a new territory, who knows how many weird smells are here," she sighs, leaning back in her chair.

"That's not it either, you smell like..... Like another pack," I growl in realization. She puts her hands up in panic.

"I accidentally ran into the Silver Bloods territory. Nothing more, I promise," she whimpers.

"Fine, just go get it washed off, Velox is in my room if you need her," I tell her. She nods and walks up the stairs. I go upstairs to put Velox in Shade's room very quickly, before heading back downstairs.

I'm going on patrol tonight, who else is coming? I mindlink Derek. I wanted to put him as my Gamma/Third In Command, but he doesn't want to, so I just give him the responsibilities.

I'll be going tonight, with a few warriors and guards. We have four other patrols out as well, he tells me.

Good.

I hear a shower turn off upstairs, and Shade walking down the steps. She comes in with Velox at her heels, and a bowl of ice cream in her hands.

"Hey," she says sitting down.

"Hey. So I will be out on a patrol tonight, if you need anything ask Hailey," I tell her. She nods and shoves a spoonful of ice cream in her mouth.

I get up from where I was sitting and walk out the door. I meet Derek on my way and we walk together to the border.

The feeling that something is wrong suddenly comes back aagin, even worse than before. We start move along the border, and my hands hover at my hips, by the dagger and gun I always have.

Ira is extremely nervous, and I can feel the tension rise in the air. The hair on the back of my neck stands up, and my eyes dart from side to side.

I motion for the others to stay quiet, and they move to high alert. I can tell that they feel it too, but not as strongly.

I scale a tree and crouch on a low branch. I look through the trees, and use all of my senses. My ears strain for any sound, and I smell the air.

I hear dozens of footsteps from a ways away, and I smell many, many enemy warriors. I look deep into the trees, and when my suspicions are confirmed, my eyes widen in shock.

"Oh shit."
