Chapter Sixteen: Death

I feel a hand come across my face and my screaming ceases with an abrupt cry. Blood fills my mouth as I bite into my cheek. I look up at Loke who grins at me nastily.

"I almost wish I didn't make you human, then I wouldn't have to deal with your constant screaming and crying," he sighs tiredly. I spit the blood from my mouth onto the ground and glare at him.

"I'm only screaming in case there is a chance that Shade might hear me, and besides, if you lost your Lycan, you would be dead by now from the pain," I snort.

"Well, you're still a bitch, that's for sure," he growls. I smile sarcastically and cross my arms with a huff.

"Now, are you going to cooperate and walk, or am I going to have to drag you again?" he asks. I was in the same tunnel that I had first woken up in. When I was brought down here, I had kicked and screamed the whole way. Loke literally had chained my wrists and dragged me through the stone tunnels.

"Fuck. You." I give him a smug smile. I can't walk without hurting my previously twisted knee so I decided, eh, what the hell?

"Okay then," he shrugs and nods to one of the guards nearby. I keep my arms crossed as I am carried bridal style through the tunnels. We pass through a stone doorway into a larger area and I decide to smash my fist into the guard's nose.

He lets me go with a yelp and I land in a crouch. I accidentally put pressure on my injured leg and bite my lip to keep from crying out. I turn to face an annoyed Loke.

"Will you please stop trying to escape? It is getting very tiresome," he sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"But I like getting you mad, its funny," I say innocently. He glares at me and I stick my tongue out at him. His eyes swirl icy blue and he grabs my by my neck.

I gasp for air as he lifts me off the ground. My back hits the wall and I gasp in pain. His eyes are fully blue and he is long gone now. His Lycan has taken over, and I can see where Loke's ruthless side comes from.

He squeezes my throat tighter, and I can feel his fingers start to bruise. I kick at his stomach, but the only sign that he even feels it is a small grunt.

"Loke!" I hear someone bark and his eyes slowly turn back. He looks over at the guard who called his name before throwing me to the floor. My head hits the stone floor and I cry out in pain as my foot hits the ground, sending a jolt of pain up to my knee.

I rub my neck and glare up at Loke who frowns at me. His foot connects with my ribcage and I gasp in pain. He kicks me again, hard enough that I roll over and smash my head into the stone wall.

I see black and white spots flood my vision, and Loke's grinning face before everything goes black.

***************

"Raven!!" I hear Shade's voice scream.

"Shade?!" I yell back as I look around, but everything is dark, and I can't see.

"Raven help me!" I hear her scream again. It echoes around me and gets louder. I scream and cover my ears as it gets so loud, my head feels about to explode.

I squeeze my eyes shut tightly and scream while I rock back and forth on my knees. Suddenly everything goes silent, even my screaming is cut off.

I look around in panic and uncover my ears. I am suddenly in a pure white room, there are no doors or windows.

I stand up and look down at myself, I am in white scrubs that are soaked in blood. My hands are covered in the thick, hot liquid along with my face.

I look around again and blood is pooling on the floor around me. My eyes flit around in panic and I see that the blood is coming from me.

My hands search my body, and I am ready to faint when I touch my neck. The blood is pouring from a cut on my neck, and I can feel that it is deep.

Blood fills my throat and I cough in an attempt to breathe. I gasp for air but I only suck in more blood. It burns my throat and I slip on the slick floor.

I scream as I land in a pool of blood. Red covers my eyes, fills my ears, and blocks my mouth and nose from any air. I try to move, but I have no control over my limbs.

Everything goes red and I lay, paralyzed as I drown in my own blood.

******************

I jerk awake with a gasp. Pain shoots through my arms and I scream when I realize that I can't feel the ground under me.

My eyes widen in horror as I realize my situation. I am hanging by my wrists over a several hundred foot deep chasm.

Chains around my wrists are the only thing keeping me alive right now. I scream and flail my legs in panic. Searing pain burns my stomach as the stitches start to rip my skin from my position, causing me to cry out and my eyes to water.

I swing around and pain shoots through my wrists as the chains twist and tighten around them. I gasp as the metal bruises my arms. I hear laughing and see a light illuminating one of the tunnels.

I see Loke appear with several guards holding torches. A sadistic grin crosses his face as he takes in my situation.

I see that he is standing on a cliff that dropped straight down to the chasm.

"Are you having fun over there?" He asks me with a smirk.

"Yes, I am having the best time of my life," I reply with a snort, but wince when I feel my stomach tear again.

"Believe me, I am enjoying this greatly, but we have to move you because this is where Shade is going to be," he smiles.

"You son of a bitch! Don't you dare touch her!" I yell, my teeth gritted in pain.

"I always thought your Lycan was what made you such a hard core bitch, but I guess not. You should be careful though, you don't have your strength to back you up anymore," he advises me and I roll my eyes.

It sucks that he is right, I think with a sigh. Loke smirks before walking over to the wall where I can see the end of my chain.

He undoes it and lowers me just enough so that one of the guards can grab me. I sigh in relief when my stomach no longer feels like it is about to split open, but then remember my other problem.

I huff in frustration as they leave the chains on my wrists.

I am carried through dozens of tunnels, all the while I get colder, so I assume we are going deeper down. Even though I am in sweatpants and a sweater, I am still shivering.

I close my eyes and unconsciously snuggle into the guard's warm chest. I hear him chuckle and Loke snorts in amusement. I ignore them because right now I am more comfortable than I have been in over a week.

My eyes snap open in shock when my back hits something cold and wet. The guard sets me down against the cave wall, and I realize that I haven't been in this part before.

Loke chains my wrists above my head, just low enough that I can sit down, but I can't go farther than that without having a searing pain in my arms and stomach. I glare at him and he smirks before disappearing through the maze of tunnels.

I lay for hours, all the while becoming more nervous as I hear snarling and growling sounds echoing through the tunnels. My shirt is turning red from my wound reopening, and the blood loss is making me feel even colder.

Loke suddenly comes marching in, and I can't tell if he is happy or completely pissed off. As he comes closer I make a final decision.

He grabs my hair and smashes my head against the wall. I cry out in pain and try to move but my chains prevent that.

"I am going to make you watch that little bitch die!" he snarls in my face.

"You mother fucking bastard! I am going to kill you!" I scream and kick him in the stomach. He lets go of me with a groan and I fall back onto the stone floor.

He stands back up and towers over me. His eyes burns blue and I see his canines sharpening into points. I am shaking violently and staring up at his face with wide eyes.

Suddenly a ball of black and gold fur barrels into Loke and knocks him over. They separate and my eyes widen as I realize the black and gold wolf is Shade.

Dozens of other wolves come pouring into the cave, and within seconds they are all fighting. Loke shifts into his wolf just as one of his wolves tackles Shade.

He turns tail and runs off with Aiden's chocolate colored wolf hot on his heels. I yank at my chains when somebody suddenly appears in front of me.

I turn back to face them and my eyes meet the barrel of a gun. My eyes widen and I suck in a breath of air.

I hear a loud and furious growl and Shade comes running towards us. I look back at the man and see that his hand is shaking as bad as I am.

I watch the man's eyes suddenly harden and I see his hand tighten around the gun. I squeeze my eyes shut and a scream fills my ears.

I open my eyes just in time to see Shade throw her body over mine, hugging me tightly as the gun goes off over and over again.

My body freezes and I can hear myself screaming as if from a distance. Blood soaks my pants and shirt even more and Shade looks behind her just as the gun goes off once more, aiming for her heart.

Tears slip down my face as Shade's slides off me. She manages to pull her head into my lap and shushes me.

"I'll be okay, I promise," she says in a shaky voice, and tears run faster down my cheeks.

"Hey, don't cry, everything is going to be okay." She gives me a weak smile and wipes the tears off my face.

She closes her eyes and suddenly goes still. I hear my brother howl and the rest of the rogues scatter.

I feel my breathing rate increase, and my chest begins to rise faster. All of the wolves around us slump to the ground and howl in pain.

I feel my anger burning through my body, along with my strength. I feel my eyes burn bright red and a scream escapes my throat.

I yank my arms and the chains snap like toothpicks. I lift up Shade bridal style and run through the tunnel.

As I run, I feel my senses slowly heightening. I burst out of the cave into the snow, which is now several feet deep in some places.

The cold has me shivering but I push through it and don't stop until I am at the hospital. I place Shade's cold body on a table and Hailey and Rosa rush in.

Derek, Aiden and all of the other wolves try to come in but I order them out. I watch as Rosa plugs Shade into several machines and a dozen tubes line her body.

Hailey gives me a somber look, and the color drains from my face. I give Shade one last look before walking outside to see the warriors that were at the caves.

Hailey follows me out, mumbling things under her breath. I suck in a shaky breath before giving them the news.

"Shade is in a coma, and she might not wake up...."
