Chapter Seven: Casualties

"You ready?" I ask Hailey beside me. She sucks in a breath and nods slowly.

I look around from my position in a tree, to my warriors around me. Shade is in one tree, leading a dozen of my Special Op warriors, while my Beta leads two dozen of my best fighters in another.

We were on the edge of the border, waiting to charge Blake's territory. Luckily Blake was extremely organized so there was a date on when the shipments for the supplies to build the bomb arrived.

I had snuck back into his house twice more to get the dates on the next shipments, and other information. Unfortunately, they have already built the bomb, and were planning to drop it on my territory in two days.

Turns out Hailey is a whiz with mechanics and computers, so she is coming to help me disable the damn thing. Shade would have, but I needed her fighting and leadership skills more.

I signal to Shade and Luke to get ready to move.

"Okay, go!" I whisper urgently to Hailey. We start to move through the trees and the rest follow suit.

Hailey makes her way over to Shade and stays with the other warriors while I drop down. I run through the trees quickly, far away from my warriors.

I'm near the main clearing when I grab a grenade from a sack on my belt of weapons. I pull the pin and toss it a few dozen feet away.

The explosion sends dirt flying everywhere. I duck to avoid a flaming branch that came at my head.

Yelling and screaming fills my ears as Blake's pack rushes to see what happened. I scale a tree as they start running underneath me.

I dart through the tree tops until I reach the main clearing, full of panicked wolves. I grab several canisters from the sack, and yanks the pins.

I throw them into the clearing full of wolves, and pull up my mask. It covered my mouth and nose, protecting me from the knockout gas.

This gas was modified, strong enough to knock out even a full grown Lycan for up to a day. Screaming fills my ears as they run to escape the gas that spread like smoke through the clearing.

I hear a furious snarl and see Blake storming into the clearing, eyes locked onto me. I drop from the tree and run into the smoke.

I use it as a cover as I run towards the safe bunker. I whip out my dagger and slit the throats of the five guards.

I use my claws to break the lock to the doors, and toss down three canisters. I quickly slam the doors back shut, and put one of my locks on it.

I hear them banging on the door in a useless attempt to escape the gas. I hear Blake's growl once again, and I run to the prison.

I kill the guards at the entrance and run down the stairs. I cut the throats of twelve more guards before making it to where my pack members were.

They were held in silver cells, and all of them show evidence of torture wounds and profusive bleeding. There were two females and seven males.

I rip the cell doors off the hinges and let them out. Three are barely able to walk, the two females and a male. Both females are nearly unconscious, and the third male is younger than I am, with a broken leg.

I give a spare dagger to one able man, and give a gun to another. They stay ahead of us, clearing the way as we escape the prison.

We found the bomb, in the science facility, Shade mindlinks me.

Good, guard the building, I am bringing the prisoners to Luke to return home, I tell her.

We enter the forest and I give orders on direction to the science facility. We make it and I let one of my warriors take the arm of the woman I was supporting.

"Get them back to our territory as quickly and safely as possible. Go East, and stay on the boundary," I order the warriors. They give me a quick nod before dashing away, some in wolf form.

Luke stays by my side as we enter the building. My Special Ops warriors are guarding the area the outside with Shade, killing any wolves that came near.

Luke and I walk inside to see Hailey already working on disabling the bomb. It was massive, and I felt my breath catch.

Luke guards the door as I rush over to Hailey.

"At least if it blows up, we won't have much time to regret it," Hailey says as I pull tools out of her belt.

"That's a lovely thought Hailey, thanks for that," I mutter with a shake of my head. She chuckles and I start to mess with the control system.

I have a pair of wire cutters that I use to carefully sever the connection to the arming mechanism.

"You know, we could just blow it up on their territory instead of ours," Luke says from the door to the room.

"Yeah but we would have to deal with the after effects," Hailey tells him.

"Well then why are they planning to do it to us if it would affect them as well?" He asks.

I am too focused on the blueprints for the bomb to reply.

"Because Blake is so determined to kill Raven that he isn't thinking much of the consequences," Hailey says for me. I find what I am looking for on the blueprints and return to working on the control panel.

They have developed it so it could be set off at a distance, so I carefully destroy the remote setter.

Hurry up, they figured out our plan, Shade mindlinks me.

Almost finished, I reply. Hailey takes a deep breath before cutting a wire, and I sigh in relief.

"What happened? Why do you sound so relieved?" Luke asks.

"If you accidentally do the wrong one, it could have set it off just now," I explain. He makes an indistinguishable noise and Hailey and I remove and destroy the rest of the essential components.

We make sure that the bomb could not be repaired quickly, and that they would have to order new materials.

As Hailey and I turn to leave, Luke suddenly gasps and slumps down against the door.

"Luke!" I cry out and rush to his body on the floor. Blood soaks through his shirt and dribbles from his mouth.

Blake looms in the shadows of the hallway, and I ignore him. Luke looks up at me and manages a smile.

"You're a great Alpha, Raven," he chokes out before his eyes glaze over and his heart stops.

Hailey squeaks behind me, and I clench my jaw in anger. My Beta lays dead in my arms, and I feel Ira taking over.

My eyes turns bloody red and I tear off my weapons belt. I crack my neck once, looking directly into Blake's ice blue eyes, before growling furiously.

"You killed my Beta!" I snarl in Ira's voice. Her voice is deeper and much more feral.

Hailey, get to Shade, make sure she is okay and then get back to the pack, I order her through the mindlink. She dashes away, snatching my weapons belt as well, and I block Blake from going after her.

"You keep killing everyone and everything I love. Well, now it's your turn to deal with the pain," I snarl and run for the door.

I shove it open and head straight for the pack hospital. He follows behind, right on my heels, but I am just beyond his reach.

I run hard and burst into the hospital, full of wounded werewolves. I snatch a dagger from my boot and start killing every wolf that I pass. Shrieks of panic and pain fill my ears as I dash through the white corridors.

I reach the end of the hall and find Aspen, Blake's younger sister. Her eyes widen when she sees me, and I grab her around the neck.

I turn the hallway, dragging her with me, and shove the door open to burst into Blake's living room. Aspen cries out, grabbing at my arm around her neck.

I position my dagger at her throat as Blake comes barreling in, followed by a dozen warriors. Jackson and Jinx appear by the other warriors, with shocked faces.

"Take one move and she's dead," I warn as wolves start moving behind me, trying to surround me. Aspen whimpers and I growl to shut her up.

"Blake, it is time you fight like an Alpha should, at the head of his pack. Stop hiding behind your wolves and family, its pathetic," I spit. He growls at me and I move the dagger closer to Aspen's neck.

Her mate, the third in command, Tony, trys to run at me but the other warriors hold him back.

"Leave her alone you bitch!" He growls.

"Now is that anyway to speak to an Alpha?" I mock.

"You are not my Alpha, and I do not respect an Alpha who will kill everyone they meet," he snarls.

"Your Alpha killed two creatures that were connected to me, and guess what, that hurts just as bad as a mate dying. He also killed my Beta, and tried to kill me, his own mate," I growl.

"You did the same to me," Blake snarls.

"You are no longer my mate, my mark is gone, now how do you explain that?" I ask, fury in my eyes. His jaw clenches in anger.

"Our bond was broken while I was in the Arena, so you can blame your father for everything he did to me," he says, making my eyes widen in shock.

My father broke our bond, he is the reason I no longer have a mate, I growl in my head.

"I killed him," I growl.

"What?" Someone else asks.

"Never did tell you how I got the scar on my face, well my father gave it to me right before I tore into his throat," I growl at Blake.

"That's all you do is kill, even your own family," he says, looking at me with disgust.

"You're right, that is all I do, that is all I know how to do. Killing is what I'm best at," I snarl before stabbing my dagger into his sister's neck.
