Chapter Nine: Pain
"Please don't give up J," I plead. She shakes her head and more tears fall down her face.
"I can't live like this. You know how much it hurts to lose your mate, please, I'm begging you. Kill me," she whimpers with a gut-wrenching sob.
"I love you Jinx," I say, a single tear rolling down my face.
"I love you too Raven," she replies, a broken smile on her face.
I retrieve my silver dagger from my belt, and lay her down on the floor. She locks her eyes with mine, and she nods slowly.
I place a kiss on her forehead, before plunging the dagger into her chest. She gasps as it enters her body, and her eyes flutter shut.
"Thank you," she whispers, before her heartbeat turns silent.
"Vale amice, alterum spero tua morte nubunt quam sine vita," I mutter in Latin before placing another kiss on each of her closed eyes.
What does that mean? Ira asks me.
Are you messing with me? At a moment like this, really? I growl.
No, I'm serious, I don't speak Latin, Ira says.
It means 'Goodbye my friend, I hope you have more happiness with your mate in death, than without in life', I tell her with a sigh.
Just kidding! Of course I know Latin, I'm a Lycan, she laughs.
You fucking bitch, its not funny! I snarl, and cut off the mindlink. I really hate my Lycan sometimes.
I remove my dagger from Jinx's chest, and put her hands over her heart. I wipe away the tear on my cheek before stepping back through the bent bars.
I bend them back into place, and start dragging the dead guards to the farthest empty cell from the entrance.
I make it out of the prison unnoticed, as there are no longer any more guards. I scale a tree and look around.
It is dark, but I can still see very clearly. Many people are still wandering around, fear filling their eyes.
There are still many bodies littering the ground, still passed out from the gas I used this morning. Most of the bodies belong to children, as the gas affected them for longer.
They are being dragged and carried into the pack hospital. I think over today's events, and I am shocked that this pack us still functioning.
I killed the Third in Command, and the TIC's mate, who was a pack doctor, the Beta's mate, and I also got the Beta tortured to death for being my friend. Not to mention that I had knocked almost the entire pack out for several hours.
I could have killed their Alpha too, this pack should be falling apart right now. But it isn't, and it makes me angry.
I let out a low growl, and dig my clawed hands into the trunk of the tree.
Derek, how is everything at home? I mindlink my brother, needing a distraction.
Everything is good sis, have you found Shade yet?
At the moment, no. But I will wait to see if she returns to the prison cell, I tell him.
Okay, hurry back, he says and ends the link.
"Yeah right," I mutter with a heavy sigh. I find a comfortable spot in the tree, and lay down to rest.
I let my eyes close, and just use my other senses to keep a lookout.
Raven! You there? Shade's voice fills my head. I sit up in shock, and nearly fall out of the tree.
Shade! What happened? What's going on? I growl.
I'm locked up in a cell under Blake's house. Do not come looking for me, but here is their plan. With the bomb dismantled they decided that if I'm here, then you won't attack in fear of killing me. She pauses, and I roll my eyes and snarl at their stupid plan.
In two days time there will be a full moon, and they have something that can imprint feelings from a memory, but it only works for an hour. Then during that time they will try to make me join the pack. If it succeeds don't change your plans, kill me just the same. I growl trough the link.
Shade- I snarl but am cut off when she ends the connection. I growl and punch the tree I am in.
My fist breaks through the trunk and leaves a gaping hole. I growl lowly slam my head against it, making the hole even bigger.
I better get out of this tree before it falls down, I think with a sigh.
Well it would be your fault for- Ira starts but I growl and end the link before she can finish her smart ass comment.
I drop down out of the branches and decide to head back to my pack to plan Shade's rescue.
***************
"That is the stupidest plan I've ever heard," Hailey laughs.
"What so stupid about rescuing Shade?" I ask.
"The fact that your doing it in plain sight of the entire pack?" Derek replies with a raised eyebrow.
"It is the perfect opportunity to get rid of the Silver Bloods Pack once and for all," I shrug.
"Its actually a great idea," my head warrior Jace interjects.
"What?" Hailey and Derek shriek at the same time.
"Well yeah, I mean you have everyone in the same place at the same time, it is perfect if you think about it," Jace explains.
"Thank you Jace, at least someone understands," I mutter. He smirks at me, and I roll my eyes.
"Okay fine, what do we need?" Derek sighs.
"Seriously? You're going to go along with this?" Hailey asks in shock.
"Do we have a choice?" He asks giving me a side glance.
"No, you don't," I answer and sit down in my desk chair. Hailey continues pacing in front of the door and muttering about how this was a bad idea.
Jace is lounging on my couch, and Derek leans against the wall by my desk. I unroll a map of Blake's territory onto my desk, and point to a spot in front of his house.
"This is where the initiation ceremony will be held, on a stage with the entire pack watching. We will attack once Blake and Shade are on the stage," I explain.
"And then this war will be over," Jace finishes for me. I nod, but my face shows my doubts.
"The only problem will be that Blake has a machine that will make Shade feel whatever he wants her to for an hour. And he will use the memory Shade has of me trying to kill her to do it," I sigh.
"Wait a second, you tried to kill Shade?" Hailey asks, and stops pacing in her shock.
"The Hunters had wiped my memory, I didn't know who she was at the time. She was in the Lunar Howlers Pack with her brother, and I was assigned to kill the entire pack," I tell them, putting my elbows on my desk, and my head in my hands.
"The entire pack?" Have asks in disbelief.
"Yes. I mostly used a sniper rifle, and shot people in their own homes. I killed wolves while they were hunting or on patrol. Then, when there were only about 50 left in the pack, I set half the territory on fire. I killed Shade's brother, and I thought I killed Shade. She was the last one alive, I had stabbed her in the neck, somehow she has survived," I say running my fingers through my hair.
"Oh shit, if he uses her feelings from that memory," Derek says shaking his head.
"Then there is no way you are going to be able to rescue Shade," Hailey sighs.
"That's why I'm not going to rescue Shade," I say with a grin as I get an idea.
"I thought you just said you were going to," Jace says in confusion.
"Change of plans, we won't be rescuing Shade," I say standing up.
"Well if we aren't rescuing Shade, then what the hell will we be doing?" Derek growls throwing his hands up in frustration. I grin and twirl my favorite dagger around in my hand.
"We're not going to rescue Shade, we're going to kidnap her."
