Chapter 6

The day has come. The Ball day.

I finished the Kassian suit in the middle of day sixth. Uriah's suit was made that day. And now I was looking at the dark blue crystals in the same room I was before, wondering why every crystal reminded me of his eyes.

I took a deep breath and looked at my fingers. I think they can not take this. I see little red dots on my fingers. I forgot to wear a protecting ring, and I had cut. My hands hurt, I could see that little bruises on them. Kassian did not see his suit, neither did Uriah. His was not over yet.

There was around 20 of them tailored to their place. Maybe that will look so bad that they will never have an idea to ask me again. Correctly said, to make me made them their suits.

I just wanted to go out of here. To never see Kassian's face, to hear his scary face and to never, I mean see his son again. They were complete opposites. One was good and the other bad. At least I thought that way.

My look was completely focused on that little pieces, I did not think about anything else, just silence and this moment, that for a moment I did not hear yelling outside.

"What do mean you do not want me to go with you?" I heard a sharp whisper, more like a normal talk, outside these doors.
"I told you, Kali, you are not going with me," Kassian said.

The fact he was on the other side of the doors sent chills down my body. I was not able to talk with him after that last fitting. He completely played with my mind that at some point I thought I should take scissors and kill myself.

I came to that stage, but the person that came after him made me feel better. I had to admit there was something about Uriah and I did not know what.

Maybe the way he always told jokes, or that he is nice to us. He showed us our rooms and never for a second did he treat us like someone unpure. That he is superior to us. Never.

"You," a sharp voice said and without a second to think I jumped and run out.

"You think you can command me?" I caught a glimpse of his eyes which scared me the most. They shone with some strange colour, almost like they are melted. A glass moving inside his head.

My heart beat fast until I was in my room slamming the doors and breathing hard.
"Imrie, what happened?" I saw Mia's and Freya's worried faces in front of me but I could not speak.

"I..I..," I whispered weakly wanting just to crash and cry, "that man is horrible," I whispered not being able to tell them that every move I would make on his fitting, he would use as an excuse to touch me. I wanted to go, but his strong arm would stop me in the second. His touch was gentle but his words were sharp as a blade.

That is one reason why I had a bruise on my hand. The other one is when I wanted to get out, cutting time short, just to run, he stopped me pushing me to the wall. Scared he may hurt me, I let tears fall, which made him even more dangerous.

He wanted to see people cry and that is what he found in me.

"Shhh.." Mia tried to comfort me but I was not able to stop.

Imrie stop, just thinks, when you come back house you will not see him, ever again. His face will become a memory and you will have your peace.

"He will not be here when I go home," I said looking at them.
"Yes, that is it," Freya repeated and I looked at them. Maybe I could have a little sleep. To be calm, and get energy. But I remembered how the suit lied unfinished on the marble surface in the fitting room and I could not just leave it that way.

"I am so tired," I whispered still looking at my hands.
"We will rest once we get out of this world," Mia said.

We all knew that we do not fit in here. They will always look at us as nothing more than servants. We will not be equal to them.

"I have to finish the suit," I suddenly stood up and wanted to leave.
"Do you have to go alone? Let us go with you," they both nodded and we get out of our room.

"I think that there is someone in that room," Mia said as we got closer and closer to the doors, finding them wide open.

"I think maybe to go back," Freya said and I agreed.
"Yes, let's go," I said too, but Mia continued to the doors.
"Hello, is anyone in here?" She pushed doors to open even more and entered.
"Oh my God."

Freya and I rushed to see what is happening only to find Mrs Darin in one corner of the room, crying.

She did not see us but we all stood there looking at her. I moved my head a little feeling relieved because nothing was destroyed.
"Mrs?" I asked stepping closer to see if she is hurt. My hand pulsed at the same place where I had bruises. I looked down at her seeing she will have the same.

"Mrs," I whispered again kneeling in front of her.
She lifted her head in a second looking at me with angry eyes.
"How dare you?!" Her face turned red from angriness and I stepped back.
"I just wanted to see is everything okay," I said not looking at her.
"That is not your business," her voice was filled with hate and disgust.
"Yes, Mrs.," I said stepping back unsure what to do.
"Look at them just standing there smiling at me. How dare you?! You are not better than me. I am and I will always be. If you think this can go like this, you will see. I will tell everything to the organization. Just wait," she stood up fixing her dress and just run out.

I could not believe it.

I turned to look at Mia and Freya and they just shrugged their shoulders. I walked toward the table to finally finish with the suit and as I extended my hand I notice it is shaking. I knew why is that.

I felt fear of Kassian. I did not know what is he capable of doing. His words I took as just that, words, but what if they are not that? That is not that, it is his cure. A way to make me feel like something less and his way to feel powerful.

I took a deep breath catching the thick material of Uriah's suit.

Another blue crystal after another one. All excitement I felt for a Ball, and for actually making this suit, having these ideas, disappeared. They are just suits for me.

"Is the suit done?" I heard his voice but I did not move. I focused on that last crystal, and when I cut the ribbon I felt like I am letting myself go. I was over with this family. With this gossips, with everything.

"Now it is," I answered putting the needle on the table and showing him the jacket.
"It is perfect," he said stepping closer.

I hold it in my hand until I felt his hand taking and I let it go. I turned to take my things and just to leave this house.

"Hey, thank you," he said soft catching my hand. I pushed my hand away not wanting to show it hurt.
"It is okay, after all, you are paying for it," I answered, "it is fair to make it good."

"No, really, I know this was hard,"
"You know nothing," I murmured under my voice, every calmness I felt when he was here left me. I just felt uncomfortable being around him. My nerves were tensed, legs ready to run and never turn back. "Thank you, sir," I said lauder letting the needle fall on its place.

"Okay," I felt him giving me jacket back, "Imrie you are free to go," and him taking a step back, "you will come at seven p.m. and then you can go," and then doors closed.

I nodded to the empty room but felt I could cry. I placed my hands to the heart and lowered my head.

Just a few more hours.

"Imrie I feel like this is not going in the best way."

I wished to change my name whenever he would say it. Kassian decided he wanted to be ready with his son and they both stood in the room, one waiting to get dressed and another not stoping with complaints.

"Let me take a look, sir," I looked at the black sleeve where he was showing. A short thread was out. I took scissors and cut them.

The whole time they talked about something, Kassian pushed Uriah to repeat and repeat. He questioned him, where is everything where is one person, another, and Uriah had the answers but he just kept shaking his head.

"If you are doing something make sure you do it till the end," I raised my look from his sleeve noticing he is looking at me. His blue eyes looked at me like he is waiting for me to say something.

"Yes sir," for a second I thought I saw a pinch of disappointment but he turned to look at Uriah again.

I made him extend his arm to look at the final shirt. It is good.

I nodded and he put his hands down.

"I was wondering," Uriah started.

Something twisted in my stomach, I tried to stay still, but I did not know why I turned to him. He did not look at me. He was talking to his father.

"Why Marso did not come with his daughter too? Jake is here, but not Violet?"

I helped him to put the jacket on. It fitted him perfectly. He was looking at the reflection when he answered him.
"Or a big coward or a stupid man," he put one hand on the pocket and I looked at him too. Diamonds shone on the light in the million colours, they were not visible when he was standing but only when he was walking. He looked like a shadow. All black suits and white shirts made him look cold and dangerous. His eyes did not look nice, I noticed. Maybe he was angry.

I looked at him again. Everything seemed the best. And I looked at his tie. A bow was not the same. One side was bigger.
"Sir, wait," I untied it and tied again. Now it is perfect.

"I wondered will you notice. Good job Imrie, I could take you as a permanent tailor." His voice filled my ears and I wished to run.

Please, no. I closed my eyes turning just so I do not have to look at him.

"Uriah, get dressed. We will take the final look." He moved attention to his son.

He stepped off the disk and sat on the big couch taking his glass. It was filled with something brownish. It looked like alcohol.

"Here, sir," I gave him pants to wear and an undershirt.

He entered a room and I turned to look at the jacket just so I do not have to look at him.

"Would you like that," he asked after a minute of silence.
"What, sir," I asked looking at the button.
"Be a permanent tailor," he explained. He must know I was playing a fol. He is not stupid.

"Who would not," I answered biting my lower lip.
"Nice. You should come here," he said and I turned to look at him.
"I can not," I said fastly.
His eyebrows lifted.
"And a reason is," he let words get lost in the air.
"I can not leave my brother," I said wondering why did I say that.
"He will come too," he said simply.
"But, I..." I tried to say something more but Uriah interrupted me.

"Imire, I think I need a button, here." Uriah exited the room looking confused.
I turned to look at him and did not look at the Kassian.
"I had to see is it necessary, I will add it in the minute,"

A little blue button waited on the table and I lifted it. I took a needle and a minute later it was all over.
"Thanks," he buttoned it and turned to look at the mirror. He took a thin deep blue tie and tied it.
"Is everything okay? Maybe something is itching, somewhere is small, too big," I asked him, taking a few steps around him.

He turned around a waved with hands, "Nope, everything is good." He smiled widely at me.

"Uriah," Kassian warned him with a low voice.
"It seems that everything is perfectly fitted," he repeated correcting himself.
"Then dress a jacket," I held it to him and then buttoned when he turned to look at the mirror.

A jacket filled with blue crystals made his dark skin look like coffee and his eyes stand even more. Everything fitted perfectly, and he smiled.
"No complaints," he smiled again and turned to the father.
"If you are over we have to go," he stood up, buttoned his jacket, putting the glass down.
"Imrie we will talk again," and he placed the money bag on the table.

I waited as they got out to take the money and just leave this room. I will not talk with him.

"We should see what is happening," Freya said around midnight. We could not go, there is no free carriage and too many of them were waiting at the same time.

"We should," I repeated. I do not know why I wanted that. Maybe because I promised Jasper. I had to see something. If nothing a Ballroom.

"Let's go," Mia stood up and we exited the room. We all changed our work dresses. I had a nice white dress, it was a leftover from some dress I made for a Pure and I made myself a dress. Mia was in black pants and shirt and Freya in the light blue dress.

We did not fit here. We looked like from our village. And that is the beauty of it. Everyone who saw us thought we are maids. They did not bother to give us a second look.

I heard the distant music and people laughing, sometimes a glass ticking and most of it somewhere in the distance, yelling. The chef wanted everything to be good, butler everything to be served at the time and the waiter to take it.

That is what I wanted to hear the most. We passed a few of Kassian's guards and they did not look at us too. They were are blue-eyed.

"I can not wait to see my dress," Mia caught Freya and me under the arms and dragged us to the entrance. We slid around walking past. It would be unbelievable for a maid to enter at the main entrance. No. We walked toward a smaller door now clearly visible and opened it. There were a little hallway and another door.

Freya rushed to open it but then she just froze.
"Oh my God. I can not believe how beautiful it is. You have to see it," she turned toward us her eyes shining.

Mia and I rushed to look, see an actual beauty. A Pure Rave in its the best way.

A big black Ballroom all decorated with red roses. From top to the bottom was decorated with roses. It looked like a living wall. There were a few pieces of leaves, but that was nothing.

All attention was on the Pure. They looked shining, rich, cheerful and powerful. Everyone wearing their colours, few of their guards around the room. No one risked getting something in its drink. Waiters walking in the black suits with piles and piles of food. Music is playing in the background. They were almost invisible. A big stage was prepared for them and the deep brown wooden instruments seemed like their hands as they moved them.

Everything seemed so unbelievably beautiful. I could not stop searching the crowd for my two suits. The first, black, I found in the group of more black, but Kassian's suit not only was from the best material it was priceless. All diamonds on it made him look like a walking shadow. I could not see when he took the crystal glass filled with a golden liquid.

My heart beat faster when I saw him laughing. His head was tilted backwards and his face generally looked happy. I recognized the rest of his company as other Warriors. They all were laughing not caring about women. Not a single of them felt like he needed a woman by their side when they all had their sons. That was the important thing.

My look came again on Kassian just at the moment when he signalised someone to come to him. Seconds later a deep blue suit came from the crowd and Uriah Humphrey made his way toward his father.

Kassian said something to him that made him nod and then turn. I followed him now, Kassian did not matter anymore. As he walked over the room his big steps pushed people aside. No one wanted to make him angry. I could not miss women looking in his direction. Even some, who looked forty or more wanted to come closer to him. A few younger girls were in the company of their nannies and they were not allowed to look at him.

If someone wanted them he would firstly talk with their nannies and then with the girls.

I let a sharp exhale when I saw him getting on a stage in front of the orchestra and tapping the glass.

Music changed in the deeper slower music when he started with his speech.

"Every year, without an exception we gather here to celebrate the beginning of our country. Centuries before our race was nothing, just another dot in the unpure race. But when strength came to the surface everyone saw that the pure can fight longer than others. They pushed themselves harder, every day and that is what brought us. Another body, another soul, just to keep this country. Never stopping, never giving up, actually believing that we will survive. And we did because Warriors built this town!" A few cheers from the crowd escaped as he continued his speech, "everyone else is just another person in this world. God did not want weak, he wanted strength and we will continue it. No matter what it requires!"

He cheered with everybody and took a sip of his drink. I felt bad, my stomach did not want to stop twitching, I just wanted to close my eyes.

He is another pure. Same as his father, like every person in that room.

I stared at his deep blue tie, a white shirt, I could not believe I had some part in this farce. This is just a show. They can not be this strong.

I closed my eyes wanting to take a deep breath, but I could not. My fingers stabbed in the wooden doors and I fell. I saw lights getting in and out, electricity coming and disappearing, only to see when everything came black.

My head was hard, it wanted to pass out but I saw sudden blinks of energy as guards litten the lamps running to protect their masters.

With another look, I saw Uriah's eyes blinking black, but that had to be a shadow. Eyes can not change their colour, right?
