Chapter 6

HOGWARTS

After a short journey with several older Students from the School, the carriages soon reached the Castle and the older Students disembarked, (Y/N) walked with them, looking around the interior of the Castle, taking in the sights.

"Mister Dimitrescu? Over here, if you would please?" called out a familiar voice, (Y/N) turned his head and saw Professor McGonagall motioning for him to come over to her, he nodded and walked over to her, standing beside the older Witch in front of a set of large Oak Doors.

Not too long later there were three loud knocks on the doors, and then the door swung open, revealing Hagrid and the First Years, one of which was the small girl (Y/N) met on the Hogwarts Express, who looked at him with surprise.

"The Firs' Years, Professor McGonagall" Hagrid said to the older Woman, smiling at her under his thick beard.

"Thank you Hagrid, I'll take them from here" McGonagall said to the larger man, who nodded and left the children with the older Woman, she turned and led the assembled First Years, including the much taller and older (Y/N) who looked around at the Castle as they walked across the Entrance Hall, the stone walls were lit by torches, a very high ceiling, and a magnificent Marble staircase that led to the upper floors.

The First Years all followed the professor across the flagged stone floor, the sound of small shoes hitting the floor, along with a pair of larger shoes, (Y/N)'s enhanced hearing could pick up the drone of many voices from a doorway to the right, but Professor McGonagall showed them all into a small chamber off to the side that was lit by torches.

They all crowded together, with (Y/N) getting irritated with the smaller Humans bumping his legs or seeming to try moving between them for a spot, only to be shoved back with an annoyed glare, but he then turned his attention back to McGonagall.

"Welcome to Hogwarts, the Start-of-Term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you must first be sorted into your Houses, the Sorting is a very important Ceremony that has gone on since the first days of Hogwarts opening, because while you are here, your House will be something like your Family here in Hogwarts" McGonagall said to them all, though (Y/N) disagreed with the idea of being so close to children, he only felt close to his three little Sisters.

"You will have classes with your House, sleep in your House Dormitory and spend free time, potentially, in the Common Room of your House, the Four Houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin" McGonagall said as she looked out over the First Years, some of them making a face at the mention of Slytherin.

(Hufflepuff? What kind of name is that?) (Y/N) thought to himself, both baffled and amused by the name.

"Each House has it's own noble history and each has produced outstanding Witches and Wizards alike, while you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your House Points, while any rule-breaking will lose House Points, at the end of the year, the House with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honour, I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever House becomes yours" McGonagall continued as she looked over the students.

"The Sorting Ceremony will take place in just a few minutes in front of the rest of the school, I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting" McGonagall said as her eyes glanced around at several students, her eyes glancing at (Y/N) whose face was still shadowed by his hood, his seemingly glowing Honey-Gold eyes giving him an unnerving appearance amid the crowd of small Children.

"I shall return when we are ready for you, please wait quietly" McGonagall said, before she left the chamber, (Y/N) took a deep breath and sighed, before he felt a tug on his pant leg, he looked down to see the bushy haired girl looking up at him.

"Aren't you going to take your hood down? Surely you don't need it on whilst your indoors" she said to him in a bossy tone of voice, making (Y/N) sigh in annoyance at the little Girl.

"Your parents didn't do so well with teaching you manners, didn't they, child?" (Y/N) asked with a smirk before he reached up and lowered his hood, letting his hair out before he ran his fingers through it to fix it up a bit, the Girl scoffed and turned away from him before she started whispering to herself about the Spells she had learned, he then overheard a red-headed Man-thing-child talking about a test to be sorted.

(My... this boy seems like the gullible sort) (Y/N) thought to himself, he'd read over Hogwarts a History and knew what would be done for Sorting before he was slightly surprised by several of the Children screaming, he looked over preparing to extend his Claws, when he saw Pearly-White, slightly transparent figures stream in through the back wall, gliding across the room while they talked to each other, seeming to take no notice of the assembled students, they seemed to be arguing about something.

"Forgive and forget, I say, we ought to give him a second chance-" a fat little Monk said before he was cut off by another Ghost.

"My dear Friar, we have given Peeves all the chances in the world that he had deserved and he squanders them all, he gives us a bad name, you know? He's not even really a Ghost if we want to get- I say, what are you all doing here?" the other Ghost asked as he suddenly took notice of the surprised and scared First Years, he was wearing a ruff and tights, but no one answered.

"Ah, new students! About to be sorted then?" the Fat Friar asked the group, a few of them nodded mutely in response.

"I hope to see some of you in Hufflepuff! My old House, you know" The Friar continued, sounding jolly.

"I bet he and the Duke would get along very well..." (Y/N) said to himself quietly as he watched the interaction curiously, though also a bit unnerved by the presence of these Spirits...

"Move along now, the Sorting Ceremony's about to start" McGonagall said in a sharp voice as she returned, one by one the Ghosts floated away through the opposite wall, until they were all gone.

"Now, form a line and follow me" she said, (Y/N) moved himself into the line as they walked out of the chamber and back across the hall and through a pair of large double doors to the Great Hall, (Y/N) was surprised to have a door that he didn't have to duck through, but was quite awed when he saw the Great Hall.

The Great hall was brighter than he expected, because of the thousands of candles floating above four long tables, where the rest of the students were sat down, some looking at him with surprise from how tall he was, the tables all had glittering golden plates and goblets sat on them, at the top of the Hall was another long table where (Y/N) saw other adults were sat, most likely the Teachers.

(Y/N) then glanced upwards and was amazed by the ceiling of the Great Hall, he could see stars, and the clouds, he could see the night sky through the ceiling!

"It's not real, the ceiling, it's just bewitched to look like the night sky, I read about it in Hogwarts: A History" said the familiar voice of the little Girl who (Y/N) found annoyingly bossy, despite how small she was.

(I need to learn this enchantment... I'd love to sleep looking up at the night sky in my room) (Y/N) thought to himself as he imagined him and his Sisters getting to look up at the night sky together in the comfort of his own room.

(Y/N) then turned his attention back down in front of them and saw Professor McGonagall place down a four legged stool, and then placed a pointed Wizard's Hat on top of the stool, the Hat was patched and frayed and very dirty.

(Y/N) seemed very unimpressed with whatever this was, especially with the poor condition the Hat was left in, surely the Headmaster could pay to have it repaired? Then, the Hat twitched and to the young man's surprise, a rip near the brim if the hat opened wide like a mouth and the Hat began to sing.

"Oh, you may not think I'm pretty,

But don't judge on what you see,

I'll eat myself if you can find

A smarter Hat than me.

You can keep your bowlers Black

Your top hats sleek and tall

For I'm Hogwarts Sorting Hat

And I can cap them all.

There's nothing hidden in your head

The Sorting Hat can't see,

So try me on and I will tell you

Where you ought to be.

You might belong in Gryffindor,

Where dwell the brave of heart,

Their daring, nerve and chivalry

Set Gryffindor's apart.

You might be in Hufflepuff,

Where they are just and loyal,

Those patient Hufflepuff's are true

And unafraid of toil.

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,

If you've a ready mind,

Where those of wit and learning,

Will always find their kind.

Or perhaps in Slytherin

You'll make real friends,

Those cunning folk use any means

To achieve their ends.

So put me on! Don't be afraid!

And don't get in a flap!

You're in safe hands (though I have none)

For I'm a Thinking Cap!"

The whole Hall suddenly burst into applause as the Hat finished it's song, it bowed to each of the four tables and then sat still again.

"So we've got to try on the hat! I'll kill Fred, he was going on about wrestling a Troll" (Y/N) overheard the red-head say, he raised a brow at the Ceremony, and he also was curious about what a Troll was like, and also... what the blood of a Troll tasted like.

"When I call your name, you will put on the Hat and sit on the stool to be sorted" McGonagall said to the assembled First Years, before she looked down at the scroll she was carrying.

"Abbott, Hannah!" McGonagall called out, then a Pink-faced girl with Blonde pigtails stumbled out of the group, put on the Hat which fell right down over her eyes, and sat down on the stool, a moment's pause before the Hat suddenly called out, "HUFFLEPUFF!".

The table on the right cheered and clapped as Hannah smiled and went to sit down at the Hufflepuff table, being greeted by the Fat Friar.

"Bones, Susan!" Professor McGonagall called out, said girl did exactly what Hannah did, and was sorted into Hufflepuff House as well, before Susan took off the Hat and scuttled to the Hufflepuff table to sit with Hannah.

"Boot, Terry!" McGonagall called out, then a little man-thing put the hat on, and then, "RAVENCLAW!" the Hat shouted after a moment of silence, the table second from the left clapped this time, several Ravenclaw Students stood up to shake hands with Terry as he joined them.

While the Sorting Ceremony continued, (Y/N) sensed eyes lingering upon him, he glanced around and saw several students staring at him, many of them... were Female, one was a short Ravenclaw girl with shoulder length Brown-hair, and brown eyes, looking at him with intrigue.

Then there was a girl who was sat at the Gryffindor table, she had rather long Blonde hair, pink lips and Dark-Green eyes, and she was looking at him with some pink on her cheeks and a smile, showing her Whitened teeth.

"Dimitrescu, (Y/N)!" McGonagall called out, (Y/N)'s gaze turned back to the older Woman who was now looking directly at him, he then stepped forward and towered over the Woman, he sat down rather uncomfortable in the stool, earning some snorts from the Students that made him annoyed as he took the hat and set it upon his head.

"My, my... so much blood and death hang upon you, and your blood... most interesting indeed! You are quite unique compared to the others here, welcome to this school (Y/N) Dimitrescu" said a voice in (Y/N)'s mind, making him look around at first before he realised what was happening.

(Yes... I suppose having one like me is rather unusual in this School) (Y/N) replied to the Hat mentally.

"You mean you don't know? How curious... but it mattered not for now, you have a drive to prove yourself, to maintain the Honour of your House, the House of Dimitrescu" the Hat continued, while (Y/N)'s resolution is hardened, eager to do just as the hat said, prove himself and show his Mother that he would not be a disappointment to her and the Family.

(Of course I do, I want to do well! And show the power and strength of House Dimitrescu) (Y/N) said in his mind, being very serious with his resolve and his goal.

"Such pride you have for your Noble House, and you have such a thirst for knowledge and for blood too... I do wonder what you will become?" the Hat mused in his head, reading into his character and past.

(Do you mind if we move this along? I don't appreciate having all these people staring at me... it's making me antsy) (Y/N) said as he tapped his fingers against his knee impatiently, frowning from the stares and the whispers.

"Right, of course, well then... there's only one place for you to go" the Hat said in (Y/N)'s head, before loudly shouting out into the now silent room.

"SLYTHERIN!"

The Slytherin Table the cheered and clapped loudly, while (Y/N) handed the Hat back to professor McGonagall, before he stood up and walked to the table, sitting down with some of his housemates, who looked at him with fear and wonder, while the Sorting Ceremony continued.

Next was a young man-thing child called Justin Finch-Fletchley, who was sorted into Hufflepuff, then another man-thing Boy, Seamus Finnegan, who was sorted into Gryffindor.

"Granger, Hermione!" McGonagall called out, (Y/N) then watched and saw that bossy little Girl run up to the stool and eagerly pull the hat over her Chocolate-Brown eyes, twenty seconds passed by before the Hat yelled.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

When Neville Longbottom, the little Man-thing who had lost his Toad on the Train, was called, he tripped over on his way to the stool, making others snort and laugh at how clumsy he was, the Hat took a while to decide with Neville, before finally calling out.

"GRYFFINDOR!" Neville then ran off while still wearing the Hat on his head, and had to jog back amid gales of laughter, including a laugh from (Y/N) as he covered his mouth with a closed fight, while the boy handed the Hat to another Female First Year called Morag Macdougal.

"Malfoy, Draco!" McGonagall called out after Macdougal was sorted, a young boy with Platinum-Blonde hair swaggered forward and sat himself on the stool, he placed the Hat on his head and it barely touched his head when the Hat screamed "SLYTHERIN!", Malfoy smirked arrogantly as he got up and joined the Slytherin table.

There weren't many First Years left now.

Moon... Nott... Parkinson... then a pair of twin girls, Patil and Patil... then Perks, Sally-Anne.

"Potter, Harry" McGonagall called out, then a young Boy with dark hair and wearing glasses walked up to the stool, with many of the other Students talking and whispering as they looked at him, (Y/N) had read about Harry Potter from a few books, like Modern Magical History.

(The fact he's famous must mean he's quite skilled... how could he defeat someone like Voldemort when he was just a baby though?) (Y/N) wondered to himself as he watched the Sorting continue, with a bored frown on his face until finally, it seemed like the Hat had made it's decision.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

(Y/N) saw Harry's face morph into a big smile, as he stood back up, taking off the Hat and walking to his table, getting the loudest cheer yet, and having two Ginger-haired twins shouting "We got Potter! We got Potter!".

There were only three people left now, a girl, Turpin, Lisa, who became a Ravenclaw, Weasley Ronald, who was also sorted into Gryffindor House, and finally Zabini, Blaise, who was sorted into Slytherin, before Professor McGonagall rolled up the Scroll and took the Hat and stool away.

Then the Headmaster of the School, Albus Dumbledore stood up from his seat at the Teacher's table, beaming at the assembled Students with his arms open wide, as if nothing made him happier than to see everyone here at the Castle.

"Welcome! Welcome, to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our banquet, I would like to say a few words, and they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!" he gave everyone a brief once over.

"Thank you!" he said before he sat back down to an eruption of applause and cheers, (Y/N) was confused by that though, it seems the Headmaster was a bit eccentric, then again... he allowed (Y/N) to attend the School despite his tastes for Human Blood.

Then suddenly, all of the plates and goblets on the tables were filled with food and drink, respectively, (Y/N) smiled and took some of the food, setting it on his plate and eating it with the manners that had been taught to him over his life living the life of the Son of a Noblewoman.

"Ah, it seems someone has manners" a new voice said in a hoarse whisper, (Y/N) looked over and saw a Ghost sat next to Malfoy, who didn't look happy with the seating arrangement, the Ghost had blank staring eyes, a gaunt face, and was sporting a curly powdered wig and was wearing robes that were covered in Silver bloodstains, and had heavy chains wrapped around his body.

"My Mother taught me well growing up, might I ask your name, good sir?" (Y/N) asked, deciding to be respectful because the man had the look of Nobility, and it was only right to show respect to a fellow nobleman, even if he was... disembodied.

"I am the Bloody Baron, the resident Ghost of Slytherin House... I hope you will do well to represent this House, we've won the House Cup for the last 6 years in a row, and I will be most displeased if that streak is broken" the Bloody Baron said as he fully turned to speak with the much taller young Man.

"6 years? My, that is quite impressive, rest assured I shall do my best to represent this House" (Y/N) said as he gave the bloody Ghost a polite smile, the Ghost returned it with a smile of his own and a polite nod, and the two continued their conversation before (Y/N) felt eyes on him, he looked around and saw those same girls were looking at him again, and he noticed some of the Teachers watching him.

(Y/N) then took out his Flask and took a quick drink of the Sanguis Virginis that he was carrying, he much preferred drinking it from a glass or a goblet, but this was better than carrying around a bottle like an alcoholic.

(Y/N) conversed with the Bloody Baron some more while other members of Slytherin were a bit... intimidated by his greater height, to try and speak with him, soon enough everything had disappeared and Dumbledore stood up on his feet again, making the Hall go silent.

"Ahem, just a few more words now that we are all fed and watered, I have a few start-of-term notices to give you, First Years should note that the Forest in the grounds is forbidden to all pupils, and a few of our older students would do well to remember that as well" Dumbledore said as he glanced at several of the older Students, though... (Y/N) was curious about this Forest now.

"I have also been asked by Mr. Filch, the Caretaker, to remind you all that no Magic should be used between classes in the corridors, Quidditch trials will be held in the second week of term, anyone interested in playing for their house teams should contact Madam Hooch, and finally I must tell you that this year, the Third-Floor Corridor on the right-hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a very painful death" Dumbledore said to the assembled Students, (Y/N)'s curiosity was piqued again about what could be there that was so dangerous.

"Well, that is all I had to say, it's bedtime, off you trot!" the Headmaster said, clapping his hands as if it were a signal for everyone to rise from their seats and make their way to their respective Dorms, (Y/N) stood up from his seat and followed the Slytherin Prefects.

They followed them out of the Great Hall and through the corridors deeper under the school until they stopped at a stretch of bare, damp stone wall, the Male Prefect stood in front of the wall.

"Serpent-Fang" the Prefect said clearly, and the a Stone door that was concealed in the wall slid open, making the First Years look awed at the sight of it, they all walked inside with (Y/N) having to duck through the doorway and into the Slytherin Common Room.

The Slytherin Common Room was a long, low underground room with rough Stone walls and ceiling, from which round, Greenish lamps were hanging on chains, a Fire was crackling in a fireplace under an elaborately carved mantlepiece, the room was decorated with multiple low backed Black and Dark-Green button turfed, leather sofas and chairs,  Skulls, and dark Wood cupboards, Tapestries hung on the walls too, but also, there were the windows from which the light had a strange Green tinge.

"Hmm? How curious" (Y/N) said as he walked toward one of the windows with a few of the other First Years following the giant Man curiously, (Y/N) stopped at the window and looked out into the green outside.

"Are the windows painted Green, to match the house colours?" (Y/N) asked curiously, before suddenly several Fish swam past the glass window, surprising the Dimitrescu Boy.

"No, the Slytherin Dorms and Common Room have been built so that we may get a view under the Black Lake, the creatures that live in the Lake tend to swim past from time-to-time, like the local Mermaids" the Female Prefect said with a smile, as other First Years rushed over to marvel at the sight of the underwater view.

"Now then, follow me if you'd please, I have to take you to your room" the Male Prefect as he looked up at (Y/N), looking a bit intimidated with his height, (Y/N) followed the Boy up a set of steps to the right of the entrance from inside the Common Room, and down a passageway on the right-hand side, passing several doors until they stopped at a door which the Prefect opened, allowing (Y/N) to duck through and look at his new living space.

(A/N: I don't own this image)

"It's rather unusual you know? Normally, First Years have to sleep in a room with each other but you've been given a private room, all to yourself" the Boy said, the annoyance and jealousy very clear in his voice as he looked around at the room that (Y/N) was also admiring, (Y/N) especially like the decently sized bed too.

"I suppose I just got lucky, I suppose I had better unpack, thank you for showing me the way" (Y/N) said as he saw his Trunk, which had his belongings in it sitting close to his bed, the Prefect grumbled to himself before he left the room, closing the door behind him rather loudly.

(Y/N) ignored the Prefect and quickly unpacked his trunk, however suddenly, he got the feeling he was being watched, and also noticed the room had suddenly gotten darker... he turned around and saw a large shadow by the window, he walked towards the window, curious to what it was when suddenly, a large eye opened from the shape!

"Black God preserve me!" (Y/N) exclaimed as he backed up, looking at the eye with wonder and slight fear on his face, but he noticed an intelligence in that eye, a gentleness before the shape moved back silently moved away from the window, many large, thick tentacles slowly waving through the Water as it drifted away into the murky Green depths of the Lake.

"Amazing..." (Y/N) said in awe, amazed at the sight of such a large Creature, something that no one had ever seen up close and alive, this was going to be a very interesting year indeed!
