Chapter 19

Some more time had passed since the students had returned from the Holidays, right now (Y/N) was sat in Defence Against the Dark Arts, listening to Professor Quirrell stutter on about how to treat Werewolf bites, many of the other students were having trouble understanding what the nervous man was saying.

However, (Y/N) had some prior knowledge of treating Werewolf Bites, he knew that Werewolf bites had a type of Venom in their bite which was lethal to Vampires, he'd learned it from his friend who would come to visit the Castle, though he'd never been bitten by one and was unsure how it would affect him, what with the Black God's gift inside of him and all.

After sitting through the class, the students were very eager to leave and enjoy some fresh, Garlic-free air before the next class would begin, (Y/N) was now sat in the Courtyard with both a book for Potions open on his lap, and a book for Herbology also opened beside him, on a page for Chinese Chomping Cabbages, Abigail was sat on his left side, reading a book on Charms.

As he was reading he could hear the other students in the Courtyard talking about the upcoming Quidditch game between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, though the other Slytherins were talking more about how they hoped that Gryffindor would lose, many of them still bitter about losing the game against them earlier this year.

"So, who do you think's going to win the game, (Y/N)?" Abigail asked as she looked up to him curiously.

"I'm uncertain, Lady Saltstone, honestly I've not been paying too much attention to it..." (Y/N) replied to her as he kept his eyes on the current page of Potion's Book.

"Really? What's gotten your attention off the game?" Abigail asked him as she tried to peek at the pages.

"I've been reading up on a few of these interesting plants from Herbology, as well as reviewing brewing the process to brew an Antidote to Common Poisons, and I've been looking through Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" (Y/N) said to her as Abigail checked the Herbology book, seeing that he was on the page for the Chinese Chomping Cabbage.

The Picture showed a plant that looked similar to a Muggle Cabbage, however... the leaves looked very different, the center of the leaves were green, fading into Yellow and then a Orange-Red colour at the edges, the middle of the plant had a mouth inside, with large, Black fangs.

"Okay, but you should also pay attention to the game, our Head of House is going to referee the game between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, so we should show some encouragements for him" Abigail said to him as she also started reading the page, curious about this Cabbage, and wondering how they would be in a salad.

"Professor Snape is going to oversee the game? Is that unusual?" (Y/N) asked as he looked down to the dark-haired Slytherin girl with a raised brow, moving some of his own Black hair aside from his eyes.

"Yes, he never takes part in the game, he doesn't even like going to them most of the time, from what I heard from the older Students" Abigail said as she looked up to him, moving some of her own hair behind her ear and out of her face.

"Hm, well, I'll still go to see the game, Quidditch is a fun game to watch" (Y/N) said to her as he continued to read his Potion's Book, Abigail smiled in response to his answer, a few minutes later the two packed up and made their way to Potion's Class.

The two soon arrived to the classroom early, (Y/N) holding the door open and allowing Abigail to walk in first, before he ducked his way through the doorway and stood back up once again, brushing down his Black and Green Robes.

"Brr... why is it always chilly down here? Does the cold help Professor Snape store his Potions ingredients or something?" Abigail complained as she rubbed her arms to get rid of the gooseflesh she had from the sudden chill.

"It's cold?" (Y/N) asked the much younger girl as he made his way to one of the seats in the middle and set his cauldron down.

"I forget, you live on a snowy mountain..." Abigail said as she went over and joined him at the table, setting her things down beside him as usual.

"I would think it would be hard to forget those details about me, Lady Saltstone?" (Y/N) said to her with a smirk as he took his seat, still slightly hunched over the desk because of his height.

"Besides, even if this classroom is chilly for you, at least the stench of Garlic isn't permeating this room" (Y/N) said to her as he looked down to her, Abigail thought about it for a second before she agreed with him, the smell of Garlic in Defence Against the Dark Arts was nauseating to say the least, (Y/N) and the other students tolerated it for the sake of learning what they needed, though... Quirrell's stutter also made it hard to learn the subject properly.

Soon more of the Gryffindor and Slytherin First Years came into the classroom and went to find their seats, the rest of the students all found their own seats, Hermione looked at (Y/N) with a frown on her face as she entered the classroom, narrowing her brown eyes at him, as she made her way over to sit with Ron and Harry while Amy came into the room and quickly took her seat just before Professor Snape opened the door with a loud bang, startling the other students into silence in fear of earning his ire, Snape's long black robes flapped behind him as he walked, until he stood in front of the class with a dramatic flourish, and closed the classroom door with a wave of his Wand.

"Today we will create a potent Herbicide, do not let even one drop find it's way to the Greenhouses, or there will be consequences... watch closely" Snape said to the students in a cold drawl, before he set up a demonstration on how to brew the poisonous solution.

The students quickly got up and went to the front of the classroom, Amy hurried ahead to get a spot at the front of the class and take her notes, Abigail went to the front as well, but then Abigail was jostled and bumped into Ron, who was standing beside Harry and Hermione.

"Oi, watch it you!" he exclaimed as the demonstration was about to begin, giving Abigail a mean look, Abigail was about to apologise but...

"Weasley! Do not disrupt my demonstration, or do you already know how to brew this Potion?" Snape snapped out as he gave Ron a withering look, Ron's face went red from embarrassment as others on the class were also looking at him now.

(Y/N) also gave him a look, very unimpressed with him for how rude he was to Abigail, who hurried behind him in embarrassment and stood with her tall friend, who picked her up and sat her on his shoulder to watch the demonstration.

"Five points from Gryffindor, for disrupting my class..." Snape said to Ron with a sneer before turning back to his station, the Gryffindor's were not happy about that but said nothing as the Potion's Master began his demonstration, while the students took notes and listened to his lecture.

After watching the Professor's demonstration, the students went to their work stations to brew this poison, each would be working by themselves for this one, Abigail stayed with (Y/N) and worked on the same table as him, but to both of their surprise... Amy came over and set herself up on the table with them.

"Alright, let's get this done... what do we do first?" Amy asked them both quietly a she placed her Cauldron and supplies on the table.

"First we crush four Lionfish Spines into a rough powder with the Mortar and Pestle" (Y/N) said to Amy as he got himself started with crushing up said spines, Amy nodded and quickly got to work herself, Abigail also got to work crushing up her spines too.

"Why are you so tall?" Amy asked (Y/N) quietly as she glanced up at him briefly, before returning her attention to her work.

"What?" (Y/N) asked her as he stopped crushing and glanced to her with a raised brow.

"Your height, your very tall... I heard from others that you must be part Giant, are you part Giant or something?" Amy asked him in a whisper as she turned her attention away from her Mortar and Pestle and was now looking up into his Honey-Gold eyes.

"No, it's part of the Black God's gift, it also did the same for my Mother" (Y/N) said as he kept his eyes on his tools, wanting to make sure he didn't get distracted and crush the Spines too much.

"The... Black God?" Abigail asked curiously, Amy however seemed a little confused about this "Black God", now a little concerned that he may also be part of a cult of some kind.

"I'll explain after class, for now we should focus on this Potion" (Y/N) said as he motioned to Professor Snape, who was reprimanding Neville Longbottom who had somehow managed to crush his thumb with his Mortar, Amy nodded to him and she returned her attention to her work.

(Y/N) measured out the roughly crushed Lionfish Spines and added them to his own Cauldron, followed by Abigail and then Amy, once that was done, he got two measures of Standard Ingredient and began to crush that into a rough powder as well.

Soon enough the Standard Ingredient was powdered, and (Y/N) then mixed both powders together, before he used the scale to measure out three measures of the crushed mixture to his Cauldron, which began to bubble as the ingredients were added in, the tall young man then waved his Wand over the bubbling mixture, and now had to wait for the solution to brew.

Abigail soon finished her steps and set it to brew, Amy was the last one at their table to reach this stage of the brewing process, Amy and Abigail both wanted to ask (Y/N) more questions but... they knew Snape wouldn't be impressed with their lack of focus.

After the right amount of time had passed, (Y/N) returned to his Cauldron and added in two measures of Horklump Juice, before turning the heat up to medium, now he had to add in the next ingredient.

"Ugh... this stuff is so gross" Amy groaned out quietly as she added in two blobs of Flobberworm Mucus to her Cauldron while it was still on heat, after having it on for ten seconds she reduced the heat, and Amy stirred the Potion four times clockwise.

"And now, to finish up..." (Y/N) said as he then waved his Wand over the Cauldron, finishing the Herbicide Potion first, he then heard a frustrated huff and looked over at Amy, seeing that she was getting

"Here... slow down, your nearly finished, all you need is to add two blobs of Flobberworm Mucus" (Y/N) said as he walked around to assist Amy with her Potion, Amy took a deep breath and nodded, before she took out the bottle of mucus and opened it.

"Ugh... this stuff is so gross" Amy groaned out quietly as she added in two blobs of Flobberworm Mucus to her Cauldron while it was still on heat.

"Yes, I can agree, just don't get it on your hands, or wipe it on your robes" (Y/N) said to her as he gave the Red-head a hand, Abigail watched the two and smiled at how Amy was accepting (Y/N)'s help.

(Y/N) assisted Amy as she waited for the rest of the ten seconds, before she reduced the heat, and then, at (Y/N)'s guidance, she stirred the Potion four times clockwise at the same time as Abigail was, and then the Red-headed Gryffindor and the black-haired Slytherin girl both took out their wands to finish.

"Wow, your very good at this..." Amy commented to him as she waved her Wand over her Cauldron to finish up her own Potion, before Snape came over to examine the results.

"I know, right? He could become a Potion's Master someday too" Abigail said as she finished waving her Wand over her own Cauldron, finishing her Herbicide Potion, Snape glided over like a Phantom and looked at each of their concoctions.

"It would seem that, unsurprisingly, once again, Dimitrescu has performed the best out of everyone, ten points to Slytherin" Snape said as he looked at (Y/N)'s Cauldron in approval, (Y/N) nodded to him with a slight smile on his face.

"Miss Pond's concoction is... passable" Snape said before he looked to Abigail's attempt at the Herbicide and he nodded slightly in approval, before he seemed to glide away to the front of the class again, Amy looked surprised at the Professor's words before a smile stretched her lips.

"Dismissed, all of you get out" Snape said to the class in a sneer, the other students all eagerly left the classroom, Abigail packed up all of her supplies and noticed (Y/N) bottle a sample of his Herbicide, before he too packed up and left with her and Amy.

"Well... that went much better than it usually does for me in Potions" Amy said, sounding surprised about the fact she was able to get through the class without the contents of her Cauldron exploding, or having Professor Snape humiliate her in front of the class.

"You aren't doing that well in that class, Amy?" Abigail asked the Red-headed Scotsgirl as she looked over to her, sounding concerned because she knew how Harsh Snape could be to students that aren't good at Potions, especially Gryffindors.

"No, and it's not just because of Snape favouring your House, I'm just not that good with Potions, and I also usually get stuck with Longbottom" Amy complained as they stopped in the hallway, Abigail made a pained face at Amy's words, Neville reputation in most Wizard-related tasks was... well known, to say the least.

(Y/N) also shook his head at that situation, he saw Neville's issues for weeks now, and he felt some small measure of sympathy for Amy at being stuck with him in classes, speaking of... he checked the class schedule and saw where he and Abigail were supposed to go to next.

"We have Herbology with Ravenclaw next" (Y/N) said as he put the class schedule away, and looked down to the two younger girls.

"Lucky you... I'm in History of Magic with the Hufflepuffs now" Amy complained again, though the two Slytherins understood her pain, Professor Binns was the only teacher who was a Ghost, and was also painfully boring!

They then went their separate ways, Abigail and (Y/N) making their way to the school Greenhouses and going inside, the glass buildings were much warmer than the outside, likely from some kind of Magic, the First Year Ravenclaws and Slytherins all gathered together outside of the Greenhouse to wait for their Professor.

"(Y/N)! Abigail!" a familiar voice called out as Clara hurried her way over to her two friends, seeming to ignore the disapproving looks from her fellow Ravenclaws as she went to greet her two Slytherin friends.

"Lady Oswald, a pleasure to see you again" (Y/N) replied to her formally, with a nod toward the young Brunette, while Abigail smiled and greeted Clara warmly.

While the three talked, the other Ravenclaws looked at Clara in disapproval for talking to two members of the most hated House in the School, the other Slytherins also didn't seem too pleased with this, Malfoy however smirked to himself.

To him, he believed that the Dimitrescu boy had been disowned by Slytherin House, and saw him desperately reaching out to other houses for friendship, that'd teach him for trying to show off and ignore him!

After a minute or so, Professor Sprout arrived to begin the class, she was a squat little Witch with short, grey, wavy hair, her hat was bettered and patched and her clothes were covered in dirt and earth, as expected for her profession.

"Good day class, today will be a rather special lesson for you all" Professor Sprout said to the class with a smile as she waved her hands for the students to follow her into the Greenhouse, the students were all hit by sudden warm and slightly humid air as they entered the Greenhouse behind their Professor.

The work stations in the room were surprisingly empty this time, wooden boards had been placed over the work stations that normally held many different potted plants, seeds and fertilisers.

"A special class? I wonder what we're doing?" Abigail asked as she looked up to her much taller friend, feeling curious about what could be special about this lesson in particular.

"We'll see, perhaps we're practicing a new spell?" (Y/N) said to her, like that time professor Sprout had them all learn how to ise the Fire Making Spell, Incendio, though that was taught outside, likely to avoid any of the students accidentally setting fire to any of the plants in the Greenhouses.

"Today's class will be on the deadly Devil's Snare, since it only likes to grow in dark, damp places, I cannot grow them in the Greenhouses like with other types of Magical Plants" Professor Sprout said to the class seriously, she'd also taught about this particular Plant earlier in the week to the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff First Years.

The assembled Students found their places at their stations, with Abigail remaining close to (Y/N) as always and Clara taking a spot opposite of the two.

"Now, who here can tell me a little about Devil's Snare?" Professor Sprout asked, (Y/N) raised his hand up to his shoulder in height, and was called on by the professor.

"Devil's Snare is a semi-sentient species of creeping vine plant, possibly related to the harmless Flitterbloom, however, unlike that harmless houseplant this magical plant actively seeks out victims to wrap it's tentacle-like vines around and suffocate them by constriction or strangulation" (Y/N) said in response to being called on by the Professor, having read up on several other plants in his quest for knowledge.

"Well done, Mr. Dimitrescu, take five points to Slytherin" professor Sprout said with a smile, Abigail and Clara both smiled up at the Dimitrescu boy, some of Slytherin were also pleased that he'd earned them more House Points, though the other Ravenclaw Students were not pleased that he'd managed to answer before any of them could.

"Now students, for the first part of this lesson, we shall be taking a short excursion to a room in the lower areas of the castle, bring your parchment, quills and ink" Sprout said eagerly as the children gathered up their bags and supplies and followed the Professor as she led them back toward the Castle.

As they walked, (Y/N) had an inkling on what they may be doing and his face went serious, if this really was what he thought it might be, he'd have to keep a close eye on Clara and Abigail.

The group made their way through the vast Castle, before they all stopped at a room in the lower areas of the Castle, on a floor that was likely the same level as the Slytherin and Hufflepuff Dorms, and the Potion's Classroom.

"Alright class, now... before we begin the lesson, a word of warning, do not stray too far from the group and keep your eyes open!" Professor Sprout said to the children as she glanced at (Y/N), knowing he would likely not needed to be warned to be careful about the subject of today's lesson.

"Now... as I have said, I am unable to keep a Devil's Snare in any of the Greenhouses, but, as luck would have it, a rather impressive specimen has been found growing in one of the empty, unused rooms in the Castle, and now I will use it for today's lesson, under strict supervision" Professor Sprout said seriously to the assembled students, the students were both intrigued and worried, after hearing (Y/N)'s report on the deadly plant they were a bit cautious.

(Y/N) had a serious look on his face now too, he'd read about Devil's Snare in a book from the Library, he also knew how dangerous this plant was, how it would wrap itself around anyone or anything that it could reach, or that disturbed it and strangled them to death.

He reached into his Robe and gripped onto his Wand firmly, remembering the incantation for a spell to deal with Devil's Snare, even if Professor Sprout was here with them, he decided to stay on guard just in case of any incidents, and keep his eyes on both Abigail and Clara, it wouldn't do to lose two willing blood donors after all...

"Wait out here while I check to see how it's doing" Professor Sprout said as she opened the door, letting out a wave of musty, damp air from inside the darkened room, as the Professor peered inside from the doorway.

"Alright class, now, you will be observing this specimen from a safe distance, two at a time, do not get too close to this Plant and be sure to take plenty of notes" Professor Sprout said to all of the children, before she led the first pair of students into the room.

"Lumos" Sprout said as she lit up the end of her Wand, in response to the sudden light, the slithering tendrils began to retreat into the darkest areas of the abandoned room, allowing the students that went in to observe it and take notes.

This continued with each pair of students taking a turn, the next pair was Clara and... Draco, the two walked into the room and took notes, or, Clara took notes, while Draco was nervously watching the Plant's tendrils.

"I wonder how long this must have been growing in this room to get so big?" Clara wondered to herself as she took down more notes, eagerly scratching away with her Quill.

"This is so stupid, how could that Professor think it's a good idea to show something so dangerous, just wait 'til my father hears about this" Draco quietly grumbled as he looked at Devil's Snare nervously, while Clara pointedly ignored him, however, suddenly, Draco screamed, startling Clara and making her fall as Draco ran to the door, pushing the Professor out the door!

(Y/N) looked over and his Honey-Gold eyes went wide as the room's door slammed shut!
