Chapter Nine

Two days later...
Phil was bent over his suitcase, trying to fit everything he could into it. Dan sat on the bed, watching the angel ever so calmly organize his belongings. They were back, and that's what mattered.
They'd spent yesterday in the hospital, making sure Dan was ok. Phil didn't know how far his magic went, if he healed Dan completely or not. By the looks of it, Dan was free to go.
Not a mark on his body.
Phil didn't understand how he did it, or what it meant. His best guess? His transition to angel was starting, and he knew what that meant.
Dan lied back and stared at the ceiling. By the time they made it back, Fate was gone. They weren't sure if she'd escaped or been rescued, but Dan was certain Tyler was behind it.
Phil zipped his suitcase up, done with his packing. He hadn't seen the King of Hell since he helped him save Dan. It was weird. They were pretty sure Tyler set them up to be killed, so why help them?
Whatever the case, the two boys were just happy to be alive.
Phil looked deep into Dan's deep brown eyes. He could remember the pitch blackness from the hotel basement as he clung to life. It was a painful memory for Phil, watching his best friend die.
Dan noticed Phil's gaze and looked back at him, smirking. "Like what you see, Philly?" Dan chuckled, and Phil turned a light shade of pink.
Phil looked at the ground. "I was just remembering, that's all." He felt Dan get up from the bed and place his hands on Phil's shoulders.
"You're doing yourself more harm than good, Phil." Dan started. "I know what you saw wasn't pretty, but it's over now, we're safe."
Phil stared at Dan fiercely. "Safe?" He questioned. "You're a bloody demon! I'm some sort of Saint. Safe, please! You almost died because of your blood status, do you know what they could've done to you?" He asked, tears slipping down his rosy cheeks. Dan was the only person he had left, he couldn't lose him.
A knock on their hotel door broke their emotional conversation. Phil wiped away his tears as Dan opened the door, expecting a hotel worker.
Instead, he was greeted by a caramel-haired beauty he knew all to well.
"Zoë."

The three beings sat around a table outside in the warm sun. Phil eyed Dan quizzically over his salad, but Dan just shrugged.
They were at a café down the road, sipping on green teas and catching up. The boys were curious as to what happened with Zoella, but she had her own set of questions for the hunters.
Zoë took a sip of her tea. "So, you're saying you've been hunting since I left? Together?" She asked in her usual cheery voice. Dan missed it all too much.
He nodded. "We've done some cases, not many. Not ones like our first one, that was too much, especially for me." Dan shuddered at the memory of being kidnapped. Why was it always him?
Zoë nodded knowingly. She understood, especially after Dan lost his girlfriend Cat to demons last year. Zoë frowned. She really liked Cat.
Phil broke the steely silence. "So, where have you been?" He asked Zoella, the unanswered questions eating him alive.
Zoë shrugged. "With Tyler, watching you two." She took another sip of her coffee as Dan glanced at Phil. "He offered me protection from your kind, so I stayed down there and made sure you didn't kill yourselves." She explained, wrapping her slender fingers around her mug.
Phil snickered. "Right. So where were you when Dan was getting beat on by some vamp?" He asked, but Dan held Phil's arm, giving him a look that said "it's okay, Phil."
Zoella sighed. "I was trying to convince Tyler to go out and save you," she said to Dan. "He wouldn't listen to me at first, so I had to make a deal." Dan and Phil both stared at her in shock.
Dan spoke up first. "What did you do?" He muttered. When she remained silent, just staring at her mug, Dan repeated himself. "Zoë, what did-"
She cut him off. "I sold my firstborn." She winced, like the words had cut her. She looked at the boys with tears in her eyes. "Please, boys, you have to save him for me." She begged, tears beginning to stream down her face. "Just save my baby boy." Phil reached out and held her hands, looking her straight in the eyes. Dan felt a tiny hint of jealousy in his gut, but tried to cool it down. After all, this was about Zoë's son now, not him.
Phil's voice brought Dan out of his thoughts. "Where is your son, Zoella?" Phil asked calmly, keeping his cool for her. After all, they were both of angel blood.
Zoë shifted slightly. "Home," she muttered, and Dan stared at her.
Dan looked at Phil, who seemed to understand her. "Like, at the bar, or?"
Phil shook his head. "Her real home, Dan. Heaven. He's an angel child, like her." Dan nodded, still confused but slightly more informed. Phil turned back to the angel. "What's his name, Zoë?" He asked. She looked into our eyes, and all of a sudden a vision played out in their heads.
It was of three men, Only one of which they knew. Dan's eyes were drawn straight to Alfie, Zoë's husband. Across from him was a similar faced man, maybe his brother? His hair was much shorter, almost blond. He had a sharp jawline, the beginnings of stubble growing over it. His eyes were tinted brown, a hue neither Dan nor Phil had never seen before. He was shorter than his brother, but tall none the less.
"It's the middle one, my son." Said Zoë, in an almost whisper. Looking closer at the man in the middle, Dan was surprised.
He seemed older than Zoë herself, with brown hair pushed back from his face a permanent pout that made you think he was a model. He certainly could be. His eyes were the same shade as Phil's, blue and piercing. Phil felt like he'd known him before, maybe seen him, he couldn't remember. But he looked familiar.
Brought back to the real world, they looked at Zoë. "That was my son and his human family, his hunter friends." She clarified. "They are some of the best hunters in the world, and will kill you if they find out what you are."
Phil cleared his throat, making Dan turn to him. "That's great to know and all, Zoë, but what's his name?" Dan looked at Zoella, awaiting her response.
She sighed and looked at her tea. "His name is Troye, and he is an angel of the Lord."
