Chapter 3

That afternoon, Elena walked to the cafe that she and Peter always went to, going to their same booth, where the old waiter that always served them brought Elena her usual order.

"Thank you, Max," she smiled, checking the time to see if Peter was going to be here soon.

"Romance on the rocks?" He said, lightheartedly.

Elena only deadpanned a look at him.

"Not dating, but he's been distant and I don't know, just overall I don't think he wants to be friends anymore, we agreed to come here to talk it out but he still hasn't shown up," She said and Max nodded.

"I'll make her leave hair in his coffee the next time he comes if he flakes out again," Max joked and Elena smiled.

"You're my favorite," she smiled and he put s hand on her shoulder and walked off to his next customer.

Elena looked down at her phone and sighed. If Peter doesn't show up soon, she's going to pay, leave and get a recorder so she can go and get her interview with Spider-Man.

She ended up waiting an hour. She finally paid and tipped Max, getting up and calling Peter.

Of course, he didn't answer.

"This is Peter, leave a message!" His voice rang in her ear.

"Peter, when you decided to finally hear this, I want you to pack up all my stuff that I've ever left in your room and take it to my house, because this friendship is over, you've been such a flake and you never talk to me, I feel like you just hate me now, so whatever this was, is over," she said, hiding the fact that she was about to cry, "Goodbye."

Elena hung up, sighing and forced the tears away.

Peter isn't worth fighting or crying over. She had bigger things to deal with than boys.

Elena sighed as she walked down the street, her hands stuffed into her pockets as she turned a corner.

It was where a man approached her.

"I'm sorry to intrude on your time but I'm raising my grandkids and I need some money to buy them dinners from Delmar's bodega," he said and Elena smiled.

"I know Mr. Delmar, cmon, I'll go with you, well get them drinks too," she said and he smiled warmly.

"You're a kind girl," he said and she shrugged.

"It's so New York wouldn't be stereotyped as the place that ignores those who need help at times," she smiled.

He nodded and they walked to the Bodega.

The Man grabbed three drinks, she holed one was for him and she looked to Mr. Delmar.

"I'm gonna pay for what he needs to get," she said to him and Mr. Delmar nodded, looking at the old man who looked up at the sign.

He ordered and Elena paid, handing Mr. Delmar the correct amount. She handed the man a ten.

"Just to get yourself along," she said and he nodded.

"You're the kindest kid I've met besides my own, god bless you," he said and walked out.

"You're too nice for your own good," Mr. Delmar said, making her turn to him and she shrugged.

"Well he needed help, I'm not going to let his grandkids starve like a lot of other people out here," she said and Mr. Delmar smiled.

"This is why you're my favorite teenager," he said.

"Alright don't get cheesy, that's for sandwiches, I have to get myself prepared for an interview with Spider-Man, I'll see you tomorrow," she smiled and walked out, waving to him and his workers.

She looked both ways and crossed the street, going back down to her building. Her phone started buzzing and she saw that it was Michelle. She picked it up.

"Hey, what's up?" Elena asked.

"I saw that you and Peter aren't friends anymore, and I was wondering if you would hang out with me, since, I don't know, this got awkward um-" Michelle started to ramble.

"Of course I'll hang out with you, it's just that right now I'm going home to get ready for tonight, I need to catch Spider-Man for an interview, and tomorrow, publish it for the Daily Bugle," Elena explained.

"I understand, good luck tonight, are you free Sunday?" Michelle asked.

"Yeah, you wanna go to the library or park?" Elena replied, finally waking up the steps to her building.

"How about we get books from the library and read them in the park?" Michelle suggested and Elena nodded, unlocking the door to her apartment.

"Sounds like a plan, Stan," she joked and Michelle snorted.

"Nerd," she joked and Elena smiled.

"Whatever, MJ, I gotta let you go now, see you Sunday," she said and pulled the phone away, faintly hearing MJ say something similar and watched as Mj hung up.

Elena pushed her phone into her back pocket and went into her room. She loves her room; when her parents had gotten their income taxes, they gave the money to Elena, allowing her to redecorate it, finally being able to change from the room from when she was 5.

She walked to her desk, writing down some questions she had for the Web-Head. Elena smiled and put the recorder in her back pocket, watching as sirens flew by on the street.

Elena practically ran out, going off to see if Spider-Man would be out.

Elena pulled out her recorder and turned it on.

"It is seven fifty-three and an ambulance and a police car just flew by, I am searching to see if Spider-" she was cut off by a blur of Red and Blue swinging by.

"Holy shit," she muttered and ran, her hair billowing behind her shoulders. She heard a roar and a car fly by, Elena was inches away from it. She turned around and ran towards the windows. There was a woman in there seemed to be knocked out. Elena couldn't open the door and she saw a fluid trailing around. She started to slam on the window.

She screamed as other people rushed over to slam whatever they had on the window. Elena as finally able to open the door and she unbuckled the woman, dragging her away from the car that was set on fire right after they were away.

Elena pulled the woman farther away until she heard a baby cry.

"What the fuck!" she screamed and got up, running back into the car, finding the baby strapped into the seat.

The buckles were hot, obviously burning the baby. She grabbed a nearby blanket and undid it, coughing from the smoke as she grabbed the baby and got herself out. The baby cried as she ran to the mother.

Elena kneeled next to the woman and pressed two fingers to her neck. She found a faint pulse and she widened her eyes.

"Someone get a medic! For now, I need some water and a cloth!" she yelled out, people listening and doing.

Elena laid the baby on the sidewalk, it's crying unceasing as she lifted up the shirt to see that there were burn marks on its stomach.

She winced and a bowl of water with a cloth in it was set down next to her.

She grabbed the cloth and rung it out.

She gently cleaned the baby's stomach, it started to scream, that's when medics rushed over.

They gently took over and Elena stood up.

"Is the mother going to be okay?" she asked and the medic picking her up nodded.

The people around them started to clap.

"That kid saved her life!" one said and Elena shook her head.

Spider-Man swung over, looking around and saw Elena watching the baby. She looked up and saw Spider-Man. She immediately ran over, her recorder out.

"Excuse me, Spider-Man!" she said, "I have a few questions for you!"

Right when she was in talking distance, he lifted his arm and shot a web, swinging off.

Elena stopped, the wind blowing her hair back as she turned and watched him practically fly off.

News reporters walked up to her.

"We heard you saved those two lives as Spider-Man fought the Rhino guy," the Man said and Elena nodded.

"I did," she admitted and looked around to see the guy in red and blue disappear.

She said and looked at the reporter.

"Wanna tell us what happened?" he asked and she nodded.

"I was going to find Spider-Man for an interview, I heard the sirens go by my window so I ran out and as I'm turning the corner, that lady's car goes flying by my head, I wasn't sure if people were in there so I ran over and I saw her, so when some other people and I finally got the door open, there was fluid running out, I knew that the car was going to explode or something so I got her out, but when the car was set on fire, the baby started crying, I didn't even see it before so I ran back over to get it out, the buckle was white hot so I knew that the baby only had a matter of time. I wish I got to the baby earlier, it's going to have that burn scar on its stomach," She said and looking at the burning car.

If I was only a bit sooner.
