Chapter 19: The Gears Grind
(Time skip)
It was a one week before AEW Full Gear, everyone was looking forward to all the matches along with the promotion's next pay-per-view, Double or Nothing.
Tonight was SmackDown, and the matches and segments are advertised are as follows:
Samoa Joe vs. Ortiz
Raw Women's Champion Tegan Nox calls out AEW Women's Champion Dr. Britt Baker
Alexa Bliss vs. Anna Jay
The New Evolution and The Pinnacle come to face to face in the ring for an announcement regarding Double or Nothing
The show opened with a one on one match featuring two participants of the match for the next pay-per-view as Josh's surprise tag team partner Samoa Joe went down the ring.
The Samoan Submission Machine did his signature entrance while the crowd chanted his name.
Then a few seconds later, the AEW World Tag Team Champions and Inner Circle members Santana and Ortiz made their entrance.
Santana hyped his partner up while Joe stared them down. Ortiz got in the ring and raised his tag title while taunting Joe since Josh is nowhere to be found.
(Joe vs. Ortiz)
As Ortiz launched, Joe immediately took him down with a monstrous clothesline. The Destroyer picked him up and connected rapid right hands to one half of the AEW Tag Team Champions.
Joe dominated most of the match until Santana provided a distraction, giving Ortiz the opportunity to chop block the big man.
However, as Joe stumbled to the corner and Ortiz capitalized with an attack, the Destroyer countered with a uranage slam.
Joe: sit yo silly ass!
Santana attempted to help his partner, but he was grounded by Joe's snap scoop slam.
(End of match)
After fazing Ortiz with a splash followed by a step up enziguri at the corner, Joe finished him off as he locked in the Coquina Clutch in the middle of the ring, and Ortiz instantly tapped out.
However, Joe's victory was cut short as he was attacked from behind by the Spanish God Sammy Guevara.
Santana joined in and the two Inner Circle members stomped on Joe. However, the attack was stopped as Josh dashed down to the ring to help out his partner.
The Intercontinental Champion went after Guevara with clotheslines while connecting punches to Santana.
Joe got back up and joined the fray and laid waste to the AEW Tag Team Champions. Meanwhile, Josh superkicked Sammy and sent over the top rope and then turned his attention to Santana by hitting the 25th Hour.
Joe and Josh stared down at the three Inner Circle members while Santana and Ortiz raised their titles as they are ready for Double or Nothing next month.
Then a video package played showcasing the history between Blood Shepherd and Chris Jericho, such as Shepherd mentioning how Chris took him in while showing photographs of Shepherd's training under Jericho. The video also showed Shepherd winning the WWE title at WrestleMania and Jericho winning the AEW World title at All Out back in 2019, before AEW premiered.
As the video finished, the screen shifted to the ring with Raw Women's Champion Tegan Nox in the ring.
Tegan: while my good friend and champion counterpart Billie has her hands full with Anna Jay, it seems someone has stepped up to challenge me, and she's... a dentist
The crowd instantly knew that the Shiniest Wizard was referring to the current AEW Women's Champion Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D.
Tegan: Dr. Baker, I heard what you said, you want my Raw Women's title, but to do that, you have to pry it out of Lady Kane's hands
Tegan smirked into the camera as she sent a message to Britt.
Tegan: so you say the doctor is in, well then I want to set my appointment by having you in a match for my title
Then she was interrupted by the doctor on the screen from her office setup.
Britt: oh hey Tegan, I'm glad that you have accepted my challenge, but unfortunately I'm fully booked, but let me look through to see
The dentist said as she looked through her calendar book.
Britt: oh, it seems I have a free date for you; how does the date at Double or Nothing sound?
Tegan: that seems fair, you and me for my title at Double or Nothing, you're on!
Britt smirked as the match for the Raw Women's Championship is on for next month.
The next match was a one on one match between the Goddess and Dark Order's Number 99.
Alexa and Anna made their entrances while Billie and Tay were not at ringside. The bell rang and the two women locked up.
The Goddess got 99 in a side headlock, but Anna got out of it and pushed Alexa to the ropes and knock her down with a shoulder block. Bliss got back up and fired back with a dropkick, knocking Jay down.
Alexa pursued Anna and threw her to the barricade, seemingly sending a message to her Full Gear opponent, Tay Conti. Bliss dragged Jay back in the ring and proceeded to do her Blissful Stomp.
Alexa: that will be you Tay!
The Goddess went for an early cover, but 99 kicked out.
(End of match)
As Alexa went for the Twisted Bliss, she was interrupted by the entrance theme of her opponent Tay Conti.
Tay came down the ring, and her presence was enough to turn the tables on the Goddess as Anna got back up and nails Alexa with a step up enziguri.
Then Anna looked to end it by locking the Queen Slayer in the middle of the ring, but the Goddess managed to crawl and grab the bottom rope to force the break on the hold.
As Anna broke the hold, Tay made a cheap shot by nailing Alexa with a forearm right in front of the referee, and he had no choice but to call for a disqualification.
Tay joined her best friend in the ring and the two members of the Dark Circle assaulted the Goddess in a 2-on-1 beatdown.
Alexa tried to fight back, but the numbers game was too much for her. However, help came in the form of SmackDown Women's Champion Billie Kay.
Billie made a beeline to the ring and took down Anna to land some right hands. Tay pulled her out, but she was taken down by the champion with right hands.
Alexa got back up to aid her friends by taking down Anna with a dropkick, and 99 rolled out of the ring. Then Billie took down Tay with the Shades of Kay kick.
Tay and Anna retreated up the ramp as Alexa and Billie taunted them.
(A few minutes later)
After the end of the women's match, it was time for the final segment of the night which was a confrontation between The New Evolution and The Pinnacle.
The reason for the confrontation is regarding Double or Nothing, but all was focused on the steel cage match for the TNT Championship.

The Pinnacle made their entrance with TNT Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman leading his group to the ring with the title around his waist and his Dynamite Diamond ring on his pinky finger.
With the Pinnacle in the ring, the group stared at the stage as they waited for the New Evolution.

The New Evolution came out with Alex leading the way as Scott, Vade, Travis and Chase stood side by side with him. They walked down to the ring and stared daggers at the Pinnacle as they got inside.
MJF: Alex, how nice of you to accept the Pinnacle's invitation to come out here. Now there won't be any physical altercation between us, just a civilized matter
Alex silently stared as he listened.
MJF: this is regarding for next month, AEW's biggest show, Double or Nothing, where I proved that I was better than that prehistoric little kid, Jungle Boy
Alex: but you came second in that battle royal from the first show when you got eliminated by my good friend, Hangman Adam Page
MJF was a bit irritated, but he carried on.
MJF: as I was saying, Double or Nothing from 2020 showcased a match we called Stadium Stampede, a match that can only end in pinfall or submission. You can fight anywhere all over the arena until the referee calls for the bell. Well, the Pinnacle challenges the New Evolution to a Stadium Stampede match!
The members of the New Evolution did not seem fazed or worried by the stipulation. As for Vade, this was a kind of match perfect for him as he can inflict pain on his opponents anywhere, not just in the ring, but also outside.
The same can be said for Travis as he recalled his strap match with Seth Rollins a year ago at SummerSlam. Instead of a strap, he can use other weapons.
As for Scott, he smirked as he took note of the stipulation of the match.
Alex looked at his fellow brethren and saw the confidence look on their faces.
Alex: well Max, my brothers and I are not intimidated by your proposition. At Double or Nothing, it will be the New Evolution versus the Pinnacle! Stadium Stampede!
With the New Evolution accepting the challenge, the production has confirmed another match for Double or Nothing.
The New Evolution (Alex Auditore, Travis Sharp, Scott Wilson, Vade Drifter and Chase Destiny) vs. The Pinnacle (MJF, Shawn Spears, Cash Wheeler, Dax Harwood and Wardlow) - Stadium Stampede match
And confirmed for next Monday is a tag team match as Josh and Samoa Joe's alliance will be put to the test as they take on the Dark Order's John Silver and Alex Reynolds.
Also confirmed is a women's tag team match as Bliss Kingdom's Io Shirai teams up with former AEW Women's Champion Hikaru Shida to take on the team of Rebel and the current AEW Women's Champion Dr. Britt Baker.
