36 : a reminder

CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX; YES, YOU'RE MINE.

Sowon tugged her hair into a ponytail as she got out of the car, locking in. Sohee yawned and fixed her glasses across her face, putting her phone back in her pocket. Yeonjun was the one to swing his keys around his finger when he left the driver's seat, cocking his head back. The Coach took off his driving glasses and looked over at the two sisters, watching as they both mimicked each other's actions–Sowon was doing her hair into a ponytail, and Sohee was doing hers into a high bun.

"Apples don't fall far from the tree, huh?" Yeonjun commented, making both of them lock eyes. They shrugged and went back to their activities, the boy yawning. "Now, remind me, Sowon, why did you come early with us? You would have gladly taken the car."

"Agreed. You don't typically enjoy soccer–not even for your boyfriend. You're just his photographer," Sowon rolled her eyes. "And they're just going to be practicing for the first two hours. You'll be sitting there with nothing to do for at least four."

"I have a business to settle," The older couple looked at one another. "Don't worry about what I mean. You'll see it on the field."

"I don't want to see it on the field," Yeonjun muttered before he interlocked his hand with Sohee's, the two following after a determined hockey player. "Do you think she's talking about Sieun?"

Sohee snickered. "Yeah. Definitely talking about that chick," Sohee would get too angry if she even let that girl's name slip out of her mouth. So, she just called her subtle names, not being too mean. "I wonder what's on her mind, though. She came back from Jaeyun's this morning and seemed to look fine, but now, she's..."

"Jealous? Yeah," Yeonjun said, seeing the team practicing, running back and forth down the field. Then, he winced a little further, seeing two teams on the field, one that was not of the same gender as his. "What the hell?"

"Hm?" Sohee looked surprised to see Seoul's girl's soccer team on the field as well. "What are they doing here?"

But Sowon wasn't surprised. Instead, she smirked as she saw her boyfriend standing by Sunoo, blowing a whistle. She could peep Sieun looking at her as she walked by, kicking the ball into the net before stopping to stare. "What the fuck?" Sieun said breathlessly, tensing at the eye contact, Sowon never let go of. "She really gives me a reason to beat her up, shit..."

Then, Sowon placed a gentle touch on her boyfriend's bicep, Sieun's body filling with hot envy as Sowon continued to stare. She hadn't talked to Jaeyun because he was too absorbed in coaching his team, and every time she tried to get closer, he'd dart away unconsciously. "Afternoon, Valentine," Sowon cooed, sending shivers down his spine. Even Sunoo was surprised to see her, shocked even further hearing her tone. "How's it going with practice?"

"Um, good," God. Jaeyun couldn't help but adore this new side of her, falling victim to her small, coy smile. "Why are you here so early? I told you to get some rest after you left."

Sunoo was now speechless. He connected the dots as Jaeyun brushed an eyelash off her cheek, another hand trailing down her face. Then, with another twist, Sunoo saw it–the bruise.

Yeonjun and Sohee already stopped and saw the mark, jaws dropped in sync. "You're seeing what I'm seeing, right, darling?"

"Yeah. Never knew my little sister could be like that," Then, the two of them looked at one another, and the thought crossed Sohee's mind. "She's jealous. Oh my god. And Jaeyun probably doesn't even know."

But he was enjoying it.

"Gah!" Eunseok fell to the ground when Sohee struck the ball with his foot, distracted by the couple and the mark, not even caring that his best friend was hit in the head. "You asshole. Pay attention, or I'll kill you!"

"Mm, mm, yeah..." Sohee itched the nape of his neck as he looked over at Sieun, seeing her glaring at them. "Oh. Oh wow."

Eunseok hissed as he rubbed his forehead, checking for a cut or something. It sure felt like a boulder busted his whole face apart. "What?" Eunseok said, finally looking in the direction his friend was searching. "Holy shit. How did I not even see that when he walked in?"

"Looks like it was purposeful," Seunghan mentioned out of nowhere, making the two flinch. He gave them a crazed look, beckoning back to Sieun. "The bruise is low on his neck, making it visible only when he wears his jersey. She thought it through."

"Fuck thinking through it. I place my bets on Sowon winning the fight," Seunghan and Eunseok agreed, watching Jaeyun as he melted into his girlfriend's touch. "If it's a three-way fight, I still think Sowon's winning. That man can't even dream of hitting her, no matter what she does to him."

Eunseok rolled his eyes. "Clearly."

"It's good it's still there," Sowon muttered softly, dragging her fingertips against it. Jaeyun hissed slightly, wincing. She winced after him, feeling the pain as if he had done it to her. "I'm sorry. Does it hurt a lot?"

"Just when you touch it–but in a good way," Jaeyun winked, making Sowon roll her eyes. He grabbed her hand and intertwined their fingers, pressing a chaste kiss on the back of hers. "Why are you here so early? It's not even the finale yet, and you're already coming earlier and earlier."

"I'd be bored at home without you," She flirted, making Jaeyun kiss her hand again. "And, I've got nothing better to do with my time. I figured I should come to support your last few games."

"Sowon, Jaeyun," The couple turned to see Sieun, the girl waving. "Came early today, didn't you? The game doesn't start for another two hours–sorry that we're taking up half the field, we're going to clear out in a minute or so."

"You're fine. Nice to see you guys practicing and getting better. Gives our school a better name," Jaeyun commented, smiling. "Are you coming to our game today?"

"Yeah–" Sieun's breath gets cut short when her eyes land on the bruise, a clear marking of Sowon's lips. One step behind her boyfriend, the girl smirked as she thrived under Sieun's silence, glad that she was starting to get to know her place. "I mean, yeah. I was just going to head home and clean myself up, then come back."

"Sounds good," Jaeyun nodded before turning back to Sowon, the girl's expression falling onto her boyfriend. "I'm going to go practice, okay? I'll check back up on you soon."

"Okay," Jaeyun pressed a kiss against her forehead and jogged toward the field, leaving Sowon and Sieun to speak.

Sowon took a few steps forward, standing right next to Sieun's frozen state. "It's a reminder," Sowon clarified, clearing her throat. "A reminder for you to know your place."

And, Sowon walked down toward Sunoo, who waited for her, his hands tangled in fear. Sieun inhaled with hatred coursing through her veins, stomping back to her side of the field in hidden defeat.

"You must've thought that I'd stop. Right?" Sowon didn't look up from the sink. She knew Sieun was talking to her, her body against the doorframe. "Sorry, honey, but a simple mark doesn't change the way I feel for your boyfriend. Call me a homewrecker or something, but–"

"There's no home to wreck, Sieun. We're not going to break up over someone like you," Sowon hummed for a moment, drying her hands by flailing them into the sink. Then, Sowon turned her body and sat herself on the edge of the counter, laying back. "The only thing you're wrecking is your reputation. Really? Going after someone's boyfriend, knowing damn well they're taken? Your shamelessness has taken you and thrown you around."

"Shut up," Sieun hissed. "You know what proves my point that you don't deserve him?"

Sowon cocked her head to the side, eyebrows raised. Sieun hated seeing that expression on the ice hockey player's face. "Go on. Enlighten me."

"That you probably wouldn't have done that if it wasn't for me," A sly smile teased on Sieun's face, making Sowon mimic it. It was uncanny for Sieun to have someone match her energy, as typical women when it came to men she wanted would back off. But Sowon was her biggest enemy. "You only did it to make me jealous. Doesn't that seem odd to you?"

"You think I can't do more, Hwang?" Sowon asked, laughing so hard that her head tilted back. Now, it was a confidence showoff for Sowon–if she could continue putting up her act by being prideful, then maybe Sieun would cower. "Oh, trust me. Behind closed doors, there's a lot you don't know."

"You–"

"And you know what they say?" Sowon interrupted, pointing a knowing finger at her. "If it isn't broken, then don't fix it."

"What does that even–"

"Don't try and think you're saving my boyfriend from some toxic relationship. Trust me, we're very much in love–and you're a little too late to rescue him from me now," Sowon leaned upwards and stood straight, pulling down her top. "If you're so interested in him, I can hook you up with one of his friends, they're just like him–but I wonder if they'd want you."

"Fuck off."

"All you, darling," Sowon raised her hands in defense as she slowly sauntered towards her, making it clear she was done with the conversation. "Now, if you excuse me, I'm going to go and wish my boyfriend congratulations for winning his first game in the tournament. Bet you wish it was you, huh?"

Sieun was internally screaming at this point, ready to lay a hand on the cocky captain, but by the time she turned around, Sowon was gone.

"Bitch," Sowon whispered to herself, sighing out. "Always riling me up, making me resort to being an ass to her. Sometimes, if she just–What the– Jaeyun?"

She was tugged into a room, her boyfriend pressed against her as he panted. "Sowon, I've been looking for you everywhere," His sweaty forehead sat in the crook of her neck, the girl raising a gentle hand to run through his hair. "You left before we even got the victory to go to the bathroom, and then I– I thought you left, so I was running around to find you, and–"

"Relax," She gently released, making him catch his breath. He couldn't detach himself from her, craving how amazing it felt to have her beside him. "I'll always be here. You know that better than anyone. I'd never leave you hanging."

"I know," Jaeyun swallowed hard, closing his eyes. "But I could only imagine the thought of upsetting you. Maybe I didn't play well, or–"

"You played amazing, Valentine. Where is all of this coming from?" Sowon worried, cradling his face as she picked him up from her shoulder. "You're not usually like this, I–"

"I just don't want to make you worry and second guess yourself by choosing me," Jaeyun swallowed. Oh, how Sowon's heart swooned, almost moving her to tears. She hated how her boyfriend was suddenly so fragile, wanting nothing more than to truly be by her side. "I want to be with you. Always. Until the end of time."

"You know how much I love and care about you, Valentine," Sowon stared at him, his eyes puppy-like. She smiled softly, kissing his nose whilst on the tip of her toes. "I've never not been proud of you. You give me everything I need. I'm the one who should worry about losing you–"

"No," Jaeyun was adamant that was never, in his whole lifetime, going to happen. He shook his head violently, drifting his arms up her back so that he could practically swallow her whole. "You're never losing me. Ever."

"Then that goes the same for me, Valentine," She whispered against his lips. "I'm yours."

"Yes, you're mine."

And Jaeyun didn't hesitate to let his desires take over with a mutual agreement, his lips interlocked with hers. He pressed her against the wall, the door still clearly open. However, Jaeyun wasn't going to waste any time with his exhaustion building up into need, placing his cold hands just a sliver under her shirt. Sowon smiled through the kiss and pulled gently on his hair, the boy loving the feeling.

Just like clockwork, Sieun passed by.

She froze seeing them making out, a deep disgust and jealousy becoming more apparent as she stood there with a twitching eye. Jaeyun was the one to open his eyes and notice her, glancing over–but taking it just as it was, he smirked, turning back to his girlfriend and kissing her even harder.

Sieun stared intensely as the door slammed shut, leaving her imagination to run wildly as she was a crimson red. "Sowon..." She muttered like it was a threat, her breathing rapidly picking up from rage. "I won't let you win."

Even if she already did.
