Chapter 8

I'd sat in the floor with Aiden for a couple more hours. We didn't talk, just sat in silence. It wasn't the awkward kind though, it was peaceful. At some point, I must have fallen asleep, because when my eyes opened, we were no longer sitting on the bathroom floor.

I was laying in his bed, tucked under his dark grey comforter. Confused, I blinked my eyes a couple time, and looked around the room, spotting Aiden sitting in his chair.

"You're awake?" He asked, unsure.

"Uh, yeah.. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to fall asleep." I said shyly. He must have amazing hearing, to have noticed I woke up, and shifted just slightly.

"Its fine.." He answered quickly. "Heres my plate, you can go."

I crawled out from the warmth of the thick covers, taking his empty plate from his hands. His words weren't kind, but they also weren't harsh, just kind of.. Empty.

"I'll be back later.. Please don't do anything like that again while I'm gone." I pleaded.

Aiden sighed in frustration. "I won't. And you don't need to come back later, I'm fine."

"I'm sure." I said sarcastically, leaving the room. Even after my, however long, nap, I still felt exhausted emotionally. Today had been terrible, and now the feeling of worry had settled in my stomach.

What if he did that again? What if I wasn't there?

Deciding I should discuss this with Jason, instead of just driving myself mad with my thoughts, I made my way down the hall towards his office.

He looked deep in thought, mountains of papers piled before him as he sat behind his desk, so I knocked lightly on the door frame.

"Can we talk?" I asked.

"Of course, of course." He replied, looking up, and pushing the papers aside. "We obviously have a lot to talk about." He sighed.

Jason rubbed his face, "I never thought this would happen. I know its been four years, but it still doesn't seem possible how much has changed since then."

"I'm sure this must be hard for you to watch." I said softly.

"It hasn't been easy. Everyday I get more questions, more paper work I don't understand. Neighboring packs are beginning to push our borders, testing us to see how weak we are without an alpha. I wasn't taught how to handle these things, Aiden was. I was taught how to help run the pack, and take over for a couple weeks if necessary, but four years isn't working." He sighed, pushing his hand through his hair.

"I'm sorry you had to be there for that. If that had been Lucy.. I don't know what I'd be feeling.. Are you ok?" He asked me, concern and sympathy in his eyes.

"I think so.. I'm just worried." I said, honestly.

"I think you should stay with him. We can move in a small bed, and bring your stuff over. Goodness knows that room is big enough. It'll be good for him to be near you, and also have someone with him to make sure he doesn't pull a stunt like that again." Jason explained.

I felt nervous, theres no way he'd accept me into his room with open arms.. He didn't even like me being in there the few times I took him his food. But Jason was right, it would probably help with the progress. I had to accept that there would be no easy way to help him, this was going to be hard.

"Ok.. When?" I asked nervously.

"Tonight." Jason said, standing from his desk and straightening a few papers. "I'll have some people get right on that, but first, I should probably go talk to him."

"Yeah, thats a good idea." Imagining Aiden's reaction, when a bunch of people just busted in, unannounced, putting all my belongings in his room.

"Ok, I'll be back later, you good? I think Lucy's in the kitchen, you should go get something to eat, its been a long day." He said softly.

I nodded back in reply, leaving the office.

- Aiden P.O.V -

The sound of my door opening and shutting startled me.

It wasn't Alice, because she knocked twice, and shut the door much softer than that. I hated that I'd noticed that, but the more time I spent with her, the more things I noticed.

Like how she'd hum a song quietly as I ate, thinking I couldn't hear her. Like how her heartbeat picked up slightly whenever she approached me. I couldn't see her, obviously, but after the hair I'd found on my pillow after her nap, I assume she has very long hair.

I also couldn't help but breath in her scent whenever she was around me. It was a smell that seemed familiar, calming, a smell that made you think of home.

Whenever her hand grazed mine, it was as if I'd been shocked. Everyday it became harder and harder to avoid thinking, what if she was my mate? The one made for me?

Fate had taken away my family, and my sight, why give me a mate? Was the thought that entered my head whenever she crossed my mind.

And if I was her mate, how would I take care of her, of our future children? I couldn't even run my own pack! How would I protect her?

My mind provided me endless amounts of doubt, that clouded my head. I was frustrated, and tired, and I so wanted to look into her eyes, and confirm my suspicions.

"Aiden?" Jason's voice pulled me from my thoughts.

"Yes?" I asked, not moving from my chair.

"We need to talk." He stated.

I returned his words with silence, knowing this was about yesterday. I didn't want to talk about it. I knew I hadn't done it on purpose, but he would never believe me. I didn't know if Alice even believed me, or if she was just pretending to to keep me calm.

"I'm having Alice moved in." He said, realizing I wasn't going to speak.

"I thought she was already moved in?" I asked, curious at why he would feel the need to inform me of something so unimportant.

"No Aiden, I'm moving her in with you." The moment the words left his mouth, I grew instantly angry. I was losing all control of my pack, and being treated like a child.

"I don't need a babysitter Jason." I growled, jumping from the chair, clenching my fists at my side. "I'm not a child, and this is my pack. You can't keep forcing things on me."

"Unless you want to leave this room and take back your pack, and continue to act like a child, I will treat you like one. You know that girl is your mate, and you're hurting her pretending to not notice. Our southern border is being pushed more and more everyday by the Red Moon pack, and I don't know how to stop it. This can't go on anymore, Aiden. We'll lose this pack." He replied, just as angry as I.

"Her things will be moved in shortly. She'll be here tonight." He stated, before the sound of the slamming door reached my ears.
