Chapter 3

I was woke up by the same feeling of something just not being right. It scared me that I was so close, yet whatever was happening was still happening, and I didn't know how to stop it. I reached for my phone that sat on the bedside table, sighing when I saw 4 missed calls from Nick.

"Alice!" I winced as Nick's loud voice boomed through the speaker.

"Gosh Nick, that was loud." I complained.

"You didn't call. You said you'd call every night. Do you know how worried I was?" He spoke so quickly I didn't have a chance to get even one word in.

"Nick, calm down." I said, getting out of bed and looking for an outfit for the day. "We didn't get here until late last night, I was tired."

"Thats no excuse!" He interrupted, "If you say-"

"Nick."

"- that your going to call"

"Nick."

"- then you have to"

"Nick!" I finally yelled.

"-call." He finished quietly. "What?"

"He's here Nick. I haven't found him yet, but he's here, I feel it." I grinned into the phone.

"I'm so happy for you Al." He replied with a smile in his voice. "You're at Lone Dawn, right? I know Jason, nice guy. I know you're probably freaking out to go look around and find him, so I'll let you go."

"Thank you, I love you, bye!" I said quickly into the phone before hanging up.

Wow sis, I love our talks. Nick's voice spoke in my head, making me laugh. I could just see him rolling his eyes as he said that.

Taking my hair out of the braids I let my waist length red hair fall in waves. I put some makeup on, and quickly changed out of my PJ's before running out the door.

Remembering Jason's directions I made my way to the kitchen, meeting a few other Lone Dawn pack members.

One greeted me as soon as I entered the room, quickly welcoming me to have breakfast with them.

"So do you have family here?" The brunette named Jesse asked me.

"No, I'm actually visiting packs looking for my mate." I said shyly.

"Oh, how neat! We've had a few visitors before you for that reason, I don't think any of them found their mates here though." She frowned. "But the best of luck to you!" She smiled.

"Thanks!" I replied, taking a bite of the freshly baked muffin she'd placed in front of me. "So if you don't mind me asking, wheres your alpha?" I asked curiously.

"Oh, such a tragedy." She sighed.

"Three years ago our pack was attacked, the entire Alphas family kidnapped by rogues for ransom. The alpha was only 22, hadn't taken over the pack from his dad yet, but he was about to." She explained.

"They kept them drugged with wolfsbane for such a long time, they just couldn't handle it, their bodies shut down. The Alpha, Luna, and their youngest son. When our trackers finally found where they were keeping them, Alpha Jackson was barely alive. He was in a coma for weeks before he woke up, and when he did, he woke up completely blind." She said, shaking her head sadly.

"He was a great warrior." She commented. "Now we barely see him, and Beta Jason has had to take over the pack. He rarely leaves his room. Only on the full moon does he leave the house, the rumor is thats the only night he can see, even in wolf form. The doctors thought his sight would return with time, but it still hasn't." She sighed, looking into her coffee as she stirred it.

"Thats horrible." I said quietly. I could see the pain in her eyes as she told the story, it was obviously something that was devastating to the entire pack.

"It was." She said quietly. "We all hope someday he'll be able to take over as alpha again. I remember the way he was before it happened, his dad was teaching him well, he would do a great job." She smiled.

I smiled back, but the story left me feeling sad. "Do you know where I could find Beta Jason?" I ask politely.

"He'll probably be in the office." She replied.

"Ok, well thank you for the breakfast." I smiled, "I hope your alpha gets better."

"Thank you." She replied with a kind smile.

I made my way back to the large office door, knocking a couple of times.

"Good morning Alice." Jason greeted me as he opened the door. "I'm a little busy today, so I'll have Lucy showing you around, introducing you to everyone."

"Ok, sounds good." I replied.

"There she is now." He smiled, looking down the hall. I turned, seeing a small blonde, with a large pregnant belly walking towards us.

"Lucy." She smiled, shaking my hand.

"Alice." I replied.

"Well I'm sure you're ready to start looking around, so lets go!" She said happily.

"Take it easy today, Lucy." Jason smiled as he kissed her cheek.

"I will." She replied softly, before motioning me to follow her down the hall.

"So, think he could be here?" She asked me as we walked through the main room towards the front door.

"I have a pretty good feeling." I replied with a smile, glancing at all the new faces I passed.

"Good." She said. "I'll start by introducing you to the guards, then we'll go to the training fields, and on from there, sound good?" She asked.

"Sounds great." I grinned, excited to start meeting people.

She'd introduced me to nearly half the pack it seemed, and this was not a small pack. I was exhausted and surprised that Lucy seemed to have more energy than me, even being pregnant. I was beginning to grow discouraged, but I wasn't quite ready to give up.

"No luck today?" Jason asked, taking a seat next to me in the kitchen.

"No." I sighed, taking a drink of water. "I don't know where your mate was getting her energy, but I could barely keep up with her." I tell him.

"Oh you should have seen her before she was pregnant." He laughed. "So I assume you're planning on staying a little longer?" He asks.

"Is that alright?" I ask shyly. "I don't want to overstay my welcome, I just have this feeling, you know?" I say, finishing my last sip of water.

"No no, I completely understand. Its fine." He reassures me. "I just wanted to let you know if you stay more than a day you have to meet Alpha Jackson. Its kind of a rule, Alpha likes to know who's staying a while with his pack." He shrugged.

"Thats fine." I replied with a smile. "It'll be nice to meet him."

I smiled at Jason, but on the inside all I could think about was the story Jesse had told me, and how nervous I was to meet him.
