Chapter 2
"I really, really don't like this." Nick complained as he packed my suitcases into one of the packs many vehicles.
"I really, really don't care." I replied as I grabbed a couple bags, putting them in the back seat.
"Just promise me you'll call every night, and if something goes wrong you'll mind-link me immediately." He said in a serious tone.
"I promise." I said, annoyed at his constant over-protectiveness.
"I just worry about you." He sighed. "You're my little sister. I worry because I love you."
"I know, I know." I said, rolling my eyes, and giving him a hug.
"Just be safe." He spoke softly.
"I will." I smiled, before jumping into the passenger seat.
"You take good care of her." Nick warned my driver harshly before he could get in the driver's seat.
The driver nodded, and got in, starting the car.
"Wait!" Celia yelled, speed walking to my window as I rolled it down. "I'm gonna miss you." She pouted. "But have fun, make new friends, and keep us updated on the search. Remember I want to be the first to know if you find anything." She smirked.
"You will be." I laughed. "Love ya!"
"Love you too, my bestest friend." She replied, returning to Luca's side, wrapping her arm around his waist.
"Bye Al." Luca waved. "Good luck!"
"Bye!"
And with that, the vehicle began to move forward and we were leaving the pack behind.
Hours later, we reached the first pack. I knew from the moment we pulled in, he wasn't here. I sighed, but got out of the car anyway. The Alpha was expecting us, I should say hello at the least.
This went on for weeks, we'd stop at a pack I knew he wasn't at, say hello, and be on our way to the next. Whichever pack we ended up with at night, we'd stay with until morning, saying our goodbyes and heading to the next.
It had been 3 weeks, and I was growing extremely sick of all the time we'd spent in the car. We were about a full days drive from home now, and only about five minutes from the next pack.
I had my chair leaned back, playing games on my phone as we turned on the bumpy dirt road that led to the next pack. As we reached the gate their pack border, I tried to remember the name. Lone something.. Lone wolf? Lone road? Dawn! Lone Dawn! It was getting late, and I yawned as a guard walked to the drivers window, asking to see our proof of permission to be traveling here.
The guard finally waved us through the gate.
The moment we passed the border, I felt it. He was here.
I sat straight up in my seat, leaning forward trying to get a glimpse of the pack, but quickly realizing we still had a bit of a ways to drive before reaching the pack house.
"He's here." I mind-linked Celia
"You found him?! " Her excited voice replied
"No, but he's close Celia, I can feel it." I answered. "I can see the pack house, got to go." I said quickly.
I could hear the smile in her voice as she replied "Good luck, Al. "
I smiled as the car came to a stop, trying to act normal and calm as I stepped out.
"He's here, isn't he?" The driver asked as he smiled at me.
"I think so." I smiled back.
"Good, I'm getting sick of that car." He joked, making me laugh.
"Me too." I replied.
We made our way up the couple of steps to the porch, and a guard led us into the house.
I looked up at the pack house before walking inside. It was about the same size as ours, but had a gloomier feel to it. The curtains were heavy and dark, and the house was quiet.
We walked through the house quietly, the guard finally stopped at a large door, and I could tell by the look on his face he was speaking to whoever was inside. The door suddenly opened and we were greeted with a smile.
"Welcome!" Said the man. He looked about 25 and had short brown hair and brown eyes. "I'm Beta Jason, acting Alpha of Lone Dawn." He smiled, reaching out to shake my hand.
"I'm Alice." I smiled.
"Well its nice to have you. I heard about what happened with your pack last year, crazy." He said, shaking his head. "Thats some Luna you've got. Do you know her well?" He asked.
"She's my best friend actually." I laughed.
"Oh wow!" He replied. "How is she? I know Luca, but haven't had a chance to meet her. Amazing what she did for him. All the packs talk about it, isn't every day a Luna brings her Alpha back to life."
"Yeah, news like that spreads fast." I laughed. "She's doing good, she's actually about to have their first baby, a little girl." I smile, thinking of baby Celeste.
"Thats amazing news!" He grinned. "Well, its getting late, I'm sure you're both exhausted. I'll show you to your rooms." He said, motioning for us to follow.
"So how long will we have you?" He asked as we walked.
"Not sure, I have a good feeling about this one though." I said smiling.
"I'm glad to hear it." He said, finally stopping. "I found my Lucy last year, and I don't even remember what life was like before her. We're about to have our first baby as well. A little boy." He said, smiling proudly.
"Congratulations." I smiled.
"Thank you. Well heres your room." He said as he opened the door. "It has a bathroom, bedroom, tv. The kitchen is fully stocked, its down the hall, take two rights and a left. Don't be afraid to make yourself at home." He smiled.
"Thank you." I grinned as I stepped into the room. "Goodnight, Beta."
"Goodnight, Miss Alice." He nodded, shutting my door softly.
I threw my bag on the bed before pulling out some clothes and my toothbrush, heading for the bathroom.
Once I had showered and brushed my teeth, I put my wet hair in braids, and snuggled deep into the warm blankets.
Although I was exhausted, the feeling of being closer to my mate than I'd ever been in my life was keeping me wide awake. Walking through the house I was catching a scent I just knew had to be his.
I inhaled deeply, catching a hint of it again. I let the smell calm my nerves and closed my eyes, finally falling asleep with peace of mind that I would find him before it was too late.
