The Blind

It happened all too fast when I asked help from Avicii and Spaise for the pregnant woman who fainted in front of Wynfrost's unit. They immediately took her to the nearest hospital. She was already bleeding badly from what I heard from them. I didn't get to explain anything since the woman and the child's safety came first.

Kaagad ko ring tinawagan si Rondel. He sounded mad, of course while cursing Wynfrost over and over. I didn't even have to tell him what she did. She must have really known her.

Wala naman akong masabi rito dahil totoo namang hindi maganda ang nagawa ni Wynfrost, lalo na at buhay pa ng mag-ina ni Rondel ang nakataya. Hindi ko alam kung anong mismong ginawa niya pero ang katotohanang pinabayaan niyang walang malay sa labas ang buntis na babae ay patunay na sa gusto nitong mangyari.

She wanted to hurt them.

Why did she do it? Was she that hurt? Was she that mad at them? Why'd she have to include the unborn child in her anger? I couldn't ask her that since she was still crying while laughing continuously inside her room.

I joked about it back then but I guess there's really something going on with her or was she hurt so badly that she just told me that it was pretty normal for her to react like that? It wasn't normal, of course.

Kailangan ko pa itong bantayan nang maigi dahil unti-unti nang nagiging kakaiba ang binubulong nito.

I was relieved she felt guilty from what she had done but I couldn't get why she wanted to kill herself. Her personality didn't really suit the dark. She's happy-go-lucky, weird, noisy, and straightforward. She laughs almost all the time and she's very responsive to everything. Her exaggerated reactions could make anyone amused.

And yet here she is. Her sobs bombarded my ears over and over. Ngangawa ito ng kung ano-anong hindi ko masyadong maintindihan. Binibigyan ko ito ng tubig at masunurin niya naman itong iniinom.

Ilang minuto lang ay humihilik na ito habang natutulog kaya tinabihan ko ito sa kama. Pinakiramdaman ko ang katawan nito at inayos ang kanyang pagkakahiga.

"Stupid woman," I murmured and sighed as I tuck her in bed. "Napagod ka tuloy kakaiyak."

I listened to her steady breathing for a while before my ear reached her chest to hear her beating heart.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

The rhythm was unfamiliar at first but I grew accustomed to it after a few minutes.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

She sounded so peaceful unlike when she's awake. Her beating heart was entertaining to hear since it was the very first time I tried listening to someone's heartbeat through his or her chest.

When I was with Floell, I didn't think it was necessary to hear the sound of her heart. She talked about it with me before since she liked listening to mine.

And now I'm listening to the heartbeat of another woman and I don't hate it. In fact, I'm fascinated by the idea of knowing someone's still alive by listening to his or her heart. I know it's common sense but I haven't really thought about it so much.

Nakakatakot isipin na hindi ko malalamang patay na ang tao kung hindi ko sila maririnig dahil bulag ako.

These days it's kind of weird that I'm thinking more about being blind. I used to just shrug it off. Maybe it's because my grandfather wanted me to have an eye operation.

I heard the shutter sound of the camera and frowned. Sinadya talaga nitong iparinig ito sa akin.

"What are you doing here?" I asked again and slowly got off Wynfrost's body. Medyo nanghinayang pa ako nang hindi marinig ang puso nito sa paglayo ko. Bumaling ako kay Lan. "Well? Care to explain?"

"Tinawagan ako ni Rondel, dude," sabi nito at narinig ko ang paglapit ng kanyang mga yabag. The sound of his leather shoes was irritating but I remained stoic with my expression. "Nag-aalala siya para kay Wynfrost, of course."

I raised a brow and said, "So the exes still care for her, huh?"

"Is that sarcasm I hear from Q's usually soft voice?" hindi nito makapaniwalang sabi kaya kumunot ang noo ko. "Of course, we care for her, Q. Did you know I pursued Law because of her?" Nabigla ako sa rebelasyon nito. "She told me it would be funny for her to see me defending her in court. Sabi niya hindi raw katiwa-tiwala ang mukha ko para maging abogado. Hahahahaha!"

His story sunk in my brain as I contemplated.

"It's weird you didn't tell us Wynfrost was your ex," I said.

"Is she usually like this?" I inquired. "She's been crying for hours."

"It's normal. You don't have to think about it," he said but his voice hinted a meaning I couldn't see. What was his expression when he said that?

"You're hiding something, aren't you?" Klarong ganoon ang nangyayari. How bad is it that he's trying to hide it? "Wynfrost just tried to hurt a pregnant woman, Lan and she said she wanted to kill herself. That's not normal."

"You have to think that it's normal if you want her to remain normal, Q. She wouldn't like it."

"That's it? You can't tell me anything else?" I asked, my patience thinning as he became even more cryptic. "Why can't you tell me?"

"Who are you, Q?" I was taken aback by his weird question. "Who are you in her life?"

Napatitig ako sa kawalan habang unti-unting nariyalisa ang pinapahiwatig niya.

Who am I in her life? I'm just an acquaintance, a friend that's not even really a friend. And I proposed having casual sex with her just hours ago.

Then what the fuck am I doing here?

"I understand," I said and nodded. "But who else can take care of her, right now?"

"She can take care of herself," sabi ni Lan sa seryosong tono.

"Can't I-"

"Help?" He chuckled. "With your state right now, Quentin, you can barely help yourself." I felt a chill in my spine as he slapped me with the harsh truth.

I couldn't help but feel ashamed at my nosiness. Why am I even so curious, so interested with her problems? What's it to me anyway?

"I won't let her go," I exclaimed. I didn't even know what I was talking about. I just couldn't leave her all alone. "I'll be with her from now on so..." Hindi ko na malaman kung anong idudugtong.

Lan remained quiet for a while I thought about what he might say. Would he tell me to just fuck off and not bother Wynfrost?

"She'll tell you when she's ready." I only heard his footsteps and an almost silent "Good luck."

That's it?

His good luck sounded wrong. Para bang banta ito sa pandinig ko pero hindi ko na lang iyon pinansin at muling binalik ang tenga ko kung saang banda naroroon ang puso ni Wynfrost.

Her beating heart got engraved inside my mind as I listened carefully. My hands snaked around her waist as I buried my self on her chest.

"I like how you sound," bulong ko at unti-unti nang dinalaw ng antok. Her beating heart was the last thing I remembered before I slept peacefully.

Nagising ako sa magaan na boses na iyon kaya nakusot ko ang mata ko bago napahikab.

"Wynfrost?" I got my breath almost knocked out of my chest as I felt her hug me, her face burying in the crook of my neck. Paborito niya na yatang singhutin 'yon. "Wynfrost?"

"Hmm."

Narinig ko iyon kaya agad kong naisip na baka gusto pa nitong matulog.

"Just sleep. I'll order something later," I said and smiled when I heard her humm again. "What do you wanna eat?"

I chuckled at her answer.

"Aside from that?"

"Noodles."

"Aside from that?"

"Cabbage."

"Aside from that?"

"Both of you shut up!" singhal ko sa mga ito kaya natahimik ang dalawa nang ilang segundo. "She's sleeping, you morons."

"How dare you hug my Frost girl?!" Avicii sounded so different with him shouting like that. What's with this guy? Akala ko ba wala itong nararamdaman para kay Wynfrost?

"Who's yours?" I hissed. "Go home."

"Aalis na, aalis na," nayayamot na sabi ni Spaise. "Tangina. Ba't hindi ka gumagalaw Avicii? Hoy! Huwag kang pumasok gago!"

"No! Let go of me! She's hugging him!"

"Gago ka ba?! I can see that!"

"Anong pinagsasabi mo?! Aalis na kami Quentin pare. Ah, nga pala. Ayos na 'yong gf ni Rondel at ang bata kaya hindi na raw sila magsasampa ng kaso."

Napailing na lang ako nang marinig ang pagsarado ng pinto at ang pagkawala ng nagmamaktol na boses ni Avicii. I couldn't believe I got to hear that dude whine like a child.

But seriously? How could these guys know Wynfrost's passcode? Did they ask Hack to hack her unit?! These idiots really...

Napaisip naman ako sa sinabi ni Spaise.

I really thought they'd file a restraining order or something. I mean I'd definitely do that if I were Rondel to ensure my family's safety.

Speaking of family, I didn't know anything about Wynfrost's parents or siblings. Was she an only child? She said she didn't have any friends so I couldn't really ask anyone except her exes. Pero ayoko namang lumapit sa mga ito para magtanong tungkol doon. Paniguradong iba ang iisipin nila.

Should I hire a private investi-wait. Fuck. What am I thinking about? I'm being fucking nosy again. It's certainly not in my character to be meddlesome. That's Lan.

I groaned.

What's happening to me? Why am I behaving like a completely different person?

"Fries and hotdogs," Wynfrost suddenly mumbled so I thought she woke up but she began snoring softly again.

Did she just dream about fastfood?

I laughed at the thought. Well, at least I know what to order for her.

"Paano mo nalamang nag-c-crave ako ng fries at hotdog?!" She squealed in excitement as she began munching. I didn't even know she could squeal like that. "I had a dream the fries and hotdogs were banging me!"

Nabilaukan ako sa iniinom na soda dahil sa narinig.

"You can't be serious, right?" I asked her incredulously. "How could you dream about food banging you?!"

"Come on, Q. I couldn't control my dream!"

"But dreams are unconscious thoughts!" bulalas ko, hindi pa rin makapaniwala sa narinig. "You like getting banged by food?"

Natigil ito sa pagnguya kaya purong katahimikan ang sumalubong sa akin.

"I'm supposed to be hungry," bulong nito pero narinig ko pa rin. "Ang dami mong tanong Q! Kumain na nga tayo."

"I was just curious because it's weird-"

"Shut up! Malalaman ko rin ang fetish mo! I'll have my revenge!" sabi nito at ngumuya-nguya. "I was supposed to be craving for food," she repeated irritably. Naaaliw ko lang siyang pinakinggan na magmaktol doon. "Why aren't you eating? Ayaw mo ba sa inorder mo? Eh bakit mo inorder?"

I chuckled and picked up some fries.

"I'm gonna eat now, okay?"

"Good boy." Uminit ang pisngi ko sa kahihiyan pero wala na akong sinabi. "By the way, Q, ano ba dapat ang tawagan natin sa kama?"

I stopped eating and sipped from my glass.

"Is the endearment baby, okay? I mean, that's really common."

"I prefer that too. Mas maganda siyang pakinggan kapag nag-s-sex." Nasamid ako dahil doon. "Quentin, baby, fuck me harder! Yep, sounds right," sabi nito, tila nag-p-practice pa.

I really can't beat her in being blunt.
