"There's a little witch in all of us."
- Practical Magic -
────༺༻────
Hello... Zoe here! I'm returning for another ONC and truly challenging myself this time. I don't think I can top my results from my first ONC, so I will instead channel my energy into 3 entries. I may be crazy, or I may just be determined.
I do have a brief disclaimer. This story will not be 100% historically accurate, as I've changed the timeline for the events slightly (also it's just hard to write a completely realistic story if you weren't there and there isn't a LOT of documentation). In this story, Elizabeth and the other witches who were among the first to be executed are killed in February, and not June. This makes it so I can carry out my plot effectively.
Also, every character in this book is fictious. Their actions may or may not reflect how they've been recorded in history. This is not a reflection on the character of the real people who lived through the trials.
But without further ado, here are my prompts for my first shot at a historical fiction story!

Violence: I put this first because I want to stress this is not a violent story. There will not be much action; it's just that the action there will be will be pretty distressing (I think, at least). As of right now, the only violence is in the prologue, where it opens with a character being hanged. If this is distressing to you, you can skip to chapter 1 without missing a lot of vital information. There is also a scene in chapter 11 where a mutilated goat is described; this is not too graphic, but a relevant trigger warning is provided at the beginning of the chapter.

15. Three women. Three secrets. Three tangled lives.
𝐒𝐔𝐁-𝐏𝐋𝐎𝐓𝐒 (IN NUMERICAL ORDER)
35. Some things trigger hazy visuals to appear in front of your eyes. Slowly you discover they are glimpses of your past life where you were murdered in cold blood and you get the taste of betrayal every time.*
49. "Master the rules of the game until you can play it better than they can." – Michael Scott, "The Sorceress"
62. "Hell is empty and all the devils are here." – William Shakespeare
*I am changing this prompt so that it is Anne seeing glimpses of Elizabeth's life and how she was falsely accused.

⤅ laurendoubleu - I love stories that grab my attention and make me feel emotions so strongly that I have to take a moment to process everything. This story does exactly that.
With just the introduction alone, one of the strongest I've ever seen, this story immediately immerses me not only in history but the mindset of the main character, making me feel so much love and hatred towards people I've never met before. These emotions only grow throughout the story, wrapped in a mystery that plagues the town and a critique on the injustices of society. And just when I thought nothing could make the story any better, that powerful ending left me reeling, then wanting to tell every single person I know to read this book just so they can know exactly what I'm feeling.
In short, if you like gripping mysteries that will be on your mind for days after it's done (three days, 21 hours and counting for me), then Blight on Magic is definitely for you!
⤅ Ryan_Terio - I absolutely love Blight on Magic! I must say, out of the countless ONC entries I've read, this is by far one of my favorites. The storytelling is great and the history is accurate, highly recommend this book

I'm giving the book an official rating of 13+ because it is violent in its mature themes & contains profane language. There are also slightly graphic depictions of death (a mutilated animal and descriptions of people dying to a noose).
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy!
