Twenty Two- Epilouge

Sydney sat on the couch, listening to Joey teaching Emily and Ethan how to play the piano as Jeremiah played along on his guitar. Jessica was out with her boyfriend, Benjamin, or Ben Martin, and eight-year-old Melody was in the family room, watching Veggietales. She couldn't believe how wonderful her family was, even after twenty-one years with her oldest daughter. She still couldn't believe it had been that long since Daniel had been in her life. She chuckled, hearing Joey start the twins on Painted Skies, from their first original album. Then, Jessie and Ben opened the door, coming in, and she smiled.

"Did you two have fun?" Jessie grinned, not letting go of Ben's hand.
"Mom, we have some news. We're engaged." Sydney nearly shrieked, and she heard the music stop.
"You okay, Syd?" She heard Joey holler, and she laughed.
"Our daughter's engaged!" She hollered back, and laughed at the couple's embarrassment. Joey came in the room, the biggest grin in the world on her face.

"Ben? You proposed?" He nodded, a little bit of sadness visible in his eyes. His younger sister, Anna, had lost her fight to cancer about eight years ago, and that still pained him.

"Yes sir. I hope you're still okay with it." Joey laughed, shaking his hand.
"That I am, Ben. Congratulations, you two. Just don't you dare hurt her, young man. She's got a couple brothers and plenty of cousins who'd gladly gang up on you if you hurt her." Sydney laughed quietly, gently smacking her husband of 19 years.
"Joseph." She put a little bit of an edge in her voice, and he bit his lip. She could see Jessie trying not to laugh, and winked at her.

"Okay, okay. That's probably not accurate, but they'd all be pretty mad at you." Joey corrected himself, and she chuckled.
"Just take care of her, Ben." He nodded, and Jessie turned pink as he kissed her on the cheek before leaving. She smiled at her parents, ducking her head, and then scurried upstairs. Joey chuckled, gently massaging Sydney's shoulders as they stood there.

"She's growing up. She's growing up into a beautiful young woman. And she's going to be just as good a mother as you've been." She blushed, and Joey leaned around, kissing her cheek.
"Joey....." He turned her around, smashing his lips to hers. She smiled, kissing him back. Then, Melody came in the room.

"Eww!! Jessie!! Mum and dad are kissing again!!" They heard laughter upstairs, and Sydney and Joey laughed. They pulled away, his hands still on her waist.

"Mum, why were you two kissing again?" She wrinkled her nose, staring up at them.
"Because your dad and I love each other very much." She started slowly backing up.
"Okay. Just don't start kissing me." She said, and then took off. Joey and Sydney laughed, kissing again. They pulled back, their foreheads touching, and smiled.

"Like day and night." Joey whispered, and she laughed quietly.
"We fall and rise." She said, and he kissed her forehead.
"Through these painted skies." She laughed as he spun her around. She wouldn't trade any of this for the world. Because God could really bless the broken road.
