happy anniversary
I HAVE SPENT THE LAST SEVEN HOURS WRITING THIS. IT'S REALLY LONG, BUT PLEASE DON'T SKIP THROUGH IT BECAUSE I SPENT HOURS COMING UP WITH THE CONTENTS OF THIS CHAPTER
_____
REYNA SAT QUIETLY at her table inside Bolzano Restaurant. Every once and a while she would take a small bite of her food or a small sip of her drink, but other than that she remained still, only twirling her fettuccine noodles around her fork as they grew colder. She was alone, just as she had expected she would be, but she couldn't get over just how much it hurt. It was her wedding anniversary, and rather than spending it with her husband as she should have been, she was spending it alone with a bowl of shrimp fettuccine, a salad, some breadsticks, and occasionally, her tears.
She couldn't help but feel a bit nostalgic, though, as she sat soundly in her seat. It had been so many years since she had been back home, and it had been even longer that she had sat down at one of the multiple restaurants there was in the relatively small city of Congers, New York. She had forgotten just how at home she felt being in the city. The residents, all of whom still looked familiar to Reyna in some way or another, welcomed her with arms wide open. They didn't treat her like the celebrity she was; no one asked her for pictures or autographs, and if they did speak to her it was just a normal conversation. They allowed her the escape she needed from that part of her life, and it was because of that she managed to find some comfort among everything that had been happening as of lately. She just wished it was enough.
"Reyna," a voice sounded, removing the blonde from her thoughts.
She looked up from her plate to find her waitress, a younger girl she could remember seeing around her school from time to time.
"Do you want a box or something? You haven't eaten any of your food," the girl spoke quietly and almost sympathetically. She wasn't the only one of the workers who could tell Reyna wasn't exactly in the best mood. Her green eyes were sad, and throughout the hour and a half she had been there, the workers had noticed quite a few tears escape her eyes. It was a sad sight to see, and though they all had some idea as to why she was so upset, they didn't exactly want to believe their ideas could be true.
Reyna gave a small smile and nodded, pushing her plate a few inches away from her. The waitress then smiled and scurried off to retrieve a box for her, but before she could return, the entrance door to the restaurant was opening, stopping several workers and customers in their paths. Reyna didn't care enough to look up, so her focus remained on the surface of the unfinished glass of tea she was currently swiping with her finger.
"Oh, breadsticks," Reyna heard a familiar voice say. "Don't mind if I do."
She looked up from her glass to find not only one, but two figures now in front of her. What she saw was nowhere near close to being what she expected to see, and even as she continued sifting through her mind for some reasonable explanation as to why she was seeing what she was seeing, she couldn't find one.
"Ryan? Tom?" Reyna asked with disbelief in her voice.
"Ah, ah, ah," Ryan spoke as he sat down in front of her and grabbed a breadstick, waving his gloved finger in front of her face. "The name is Pool—Deadpool. This one here is my good friend and vigilante, Pete."
Tom let out a sigh. "My name is Peter. How many more times do we have to go through this?"
Reyna nearly choked on the air in her lungs due to the amount of shock and surprise she was in. The two men were very much in character, but Reyna couldn't figure out why. All she knew was that she was thoroughly freaked out by the fact of it.
"This isn't about you, damn it," Ryan scolded Tom. "This is about our sweet little blonde friend."
"What the hell are you two doing? And why the hell are you two in your supersuits?"
Ryan tossed the breadstick he was holding elsewhere and stood up from his seat, clapping his gloved hands together. "And here I thought you'd never ask."
Before Reyna could even respond, she was being pulled from her seat and pulled over the shoulder of the man in the red Deadpool suit. Several people watched on in shock and confusion as Reyna struggled in the arms of her captor, but a very in character Ryan was quick to assure them everything was okay.
"It's okay, everyone!" he called out to them as he carried Reyna through the restaurant. "She enjoys this."
"No I don't," Reyna grumbled as she continued her struggle.
"Hey," Ryan said as he delivered a very chastising smack to her behind. "Stop struggling; I just had this shit dry cleaned."
Reyna rolled her eyes and settled down, despite how much she didn't want to do so.
Ryan then stopped and turned around as he remembered something, and he saw Tom sitting at Reyna's table, very calmly munching away on her leftover alfredo. Ryan let out a sigh and shook his head.
"We don't have time for this shit, Parker," Ryan called out to him, startling him and several other restaurant customers. Tom took another bite before grabbing his mask and getting up, resulting in yet another outburst from the man in the red suit. "Get the fucking breadsticks, man!"
Tom grabbed the basket of breadsticks and ran towards Ryan and Reyna, and once he was within distance, Ryan ran out of the restaurant and down the sidewalk towards the taxi cab waiting at the end of the street.
"Where the hell are you taking me?" Reyna questioned him as she tightened her grip around him.
"It's up to you to tell us that, cupcake," Ryan answered her as he slowed to a steady walk.
Ryan pulled the back door to the cab open and threw Reyna inside before closing it almost immediately. He then moved to the passenger's side window and peeked in to look at his friend in the driver's seat. "Dopinder, I trust you'll take good care of the creature I've just tossed into your backseat?"
"Of course, Mr. Pool."
"Karan?" Reyna asked in disbelief.
Karan looked into the rear view mirror and shook his head at her. "I am Dopinder; Mr. Pool has asked me to take you where you need to go."
"And if you look at what's taped on the back of the driver's seat, you'll know where it is you need to go first," Ryan called to her before running away with Tom.
Reyna simply rolled her eyes and looked where she was told. She removed the paper from the leather seat and brought it up to her face. She read over the words written in the familiar handwriting, a small smile pulling onto her face as she did so.
Remember when you got a ticket the very first day you got your driver's license and I was the one who had to come and save your crazy ass so you wouldn't get in trouble? I need you to take a trip back to where it happened; there's something there for you.
—Sebastian
Reyna bit her lip and folded the note up before giving Dopinder the directions to where it was she was supposed to go. She still wasn't sure what was going on or what Sebastian was planning, but she couldn't deny that a part of her was happy he was doing whatever it was he was doing.
After about five minutes of driving, Karan—or Dopinder—pulled up on the side of the road. Reyna noticed a black SUV sitting across the street in the evening light and she got out of the car, thanking Karan before making her way over to the car. She approached the driver's side door and began pulling on the handle, but it wouldn't budge. Reyna frowned, but before she could do much else, a figure stepped out from behind the vehicle, startling Reyna slightly.
"You can't get in without a key," Aaron's perfect Sokovian accent met Reyna's ears and she gaped at him. "I would offer to run you there myself, but I am not as fast as I used to be."
Reyna blinked in surprise as she looked at Aaron, though in her eyes she wasn't even looking at Aaron—she was looking at Pietro Maximoff. The bleach blonde hair that hung over his face, as well as the blue compression shirt that adorned his upper body made her sure of that.
"What on Earth?"
Aaron chuckled and made his way toward her, they keys to the car in his hand. "You seem a bit distraught, sis."
"That's one way to put it," she muttered as he unlocked the car.
He opened the driver's side door and looked at her, a smirk pulling at the corner of his lips. "Go on, get in."
Reyna narrowed her eyes at him before slowly making her way around the front of the car and pulling open the passenger's side door. She moved to hop in, but stopped when she noticed what was sitting in the passenger's seat. She pulled the relatively small box off of the seat and brought it up so she could look at it. On top of the box was a small cartoon car along with the words "you drive me crazy" written in a small font. Reyna opened the box to reveal a bangled bracelet with a charm, where the same words on the box were inscribed.
"Cute, right?" Aaron teased from the driver's seat. "There's something in the glove compartment for you, too."
Reyna smiled and closed the box before hopping in the car and pulling open the glove compartment. There was a note inside, much like there had been in the taxi cab. She pulled it out and read over the words, another smile pulling onto her face as she did so.
Where did we always go when we just needed an escape from the world? Do you remember? If you do, I need you to go there, okay?
—Sebastian
"Know where to go?" Aaron asked her as he put the car in gear.
Reyna smiled nodded and before long Aaron was taking off down the road.
It took about fifteen minutes to arrive at the intended destination, and when Aaron pulled up, Reyna opened the door to hop out.
"I'll see you soon, sis," Aaron said to her, his Sokovian accent thick.
"I'll see you soon, Pietro," Reyna smiled softly, finally deciding to follow along with everything that was going on.
Reyna closed the door and started down the boardwalk. She placed the box with her bracelet inside the pocket of her jacket and continued on, the breeze from the lake whipping through her hair. She hurried down the pathway and ventured into the woods, wracking her brain for the path she and Sebastian had carved so many years ago. Once she managed to find it, a small smile lit up her face, and she practically ran through the trees in order to get to where she needed to be.
The moment she came to the opening, she slowed to a walk. Dozens of rose pedals were scattered across the ground, and the log in which she could remember sitting against so many years ago held a black envelope with her name written on it in very elegant cursive handwriting. She walked over to retrieve it, pulling the envelope open and pulling out the contents of it. Inside was a Polaroid picture of the two of them from when they were younger, sitting in the very spot she now stood on. The caption written below the picture was "you were my escape."
Reyna then grabbed the small piece of paper from inside the envelope and opened it up, only to be met with yet another note.
Only a few more stops, okay? There's a friend coming who should help you get to where you need to be.
—Sebastian
As if on cue, the sound of leaves crunching beneath heavy feet sounded behind Reyna. She turned to see a very disgruntled Chris—in all of his Thor Odinson glory—swatting tree branches away with his hammer.
"Retched Midgardian plants," he grumbled as he stepped into the opening.
Reyna chuckled to herself as she watched him, and Chris grunted before coming to a stop in front of her.
"I believe you're the Reyna Foster that I have been summoned to fetch for the puny Romanian, are you not?" he spoke properly.
"I guess," Reyna snickered at the sound of his words as she placed the envelope inside her jacket pocket; she couldn't help but feel as if Joe and Anthony also had some sort of role in this.
Chris then moved to grab her arm. He began pulling her out of the woods, and she let him, as she had no clue where she was supposed to go next or how she was supposed to get there. Chris pulled her back onto the boardwalk, and almost immediately she was met with the sight of Chris Evans and Robert, both of whom were in character as well.
"Wow, y'all are really going all out for whatever this is," Reyna chuckled as she approached them.
"You're quite the smartass, aren't you?" Robert remarked as he removed his sunglasses from his face. "I'm not really sure if I feel like dealing with you for the next ten minutes. Cap, you mind taking care of this one? I suddenly have a flight to catch."
Chris—Steve—rolled his eyes as Robert took off down the boardwalk with Hemsworth in tow.
Reyna smirked as she looked at Chris. "So, Cap, where we goin'?"
"Oh," he exclaimed as his eyes brightened. "Right this way, ma'am."
Reyna had to hold back her laughter as Chris very gently pulled her onto the pier and towards a fairly large boat. He helped her on board before getting in himself and taking the driver's seat.
"I'm not very accustom to this type of machinery, so please bear with me if something goes wrong," Chris said as he pretended to tinker with the controls of the boat. The boat soon roared to life, and before long Chris was taking off through the water.
Reyna smiled widely as the wind whipped through her hair, and it only seemed to grow as the shore grew closer and closer. She wasn't sure why she was feeling so happy at the moment, but she was, and she quite liked it.
As they slowed to a stop in front of the pier, she was met with yet another familiar figure. It was Anthony, who was dressed in his Sam Wilson attire, the goggles included.
"It's about damn time, Steve," he exclaimed as the boat closed in on the pier. "You do realize we have a mission we need to get to, right?"
"Yes," Chris breathed out in response as he stood up. "I just had something to pick up on the way over here."
Anthony's eyes fell on Reyna and he held his hand out to her, pulling her small body from the boat. "Thanks for makin' us late, blondie. I'm pretty sure whoever is in that car over there has been waiting on you to show up."
"Thank you," Reyna chuckled as she scurried away from them.
She approached the car fairly quickly, and as she did so, the driver's side window rolled down to reveal Chris Pratt.
"You're my ride, huh?"
Chris shrugged and started the car. "I would've given you a lift in the Milano if the government hadn't freakin' confiscated it. I don't understand what the hell is so wrong about owning your own spacecraft, do you?"
"Yes, yes I do," Reyna laughed as she moved to get into the car.
The moment she closed the door behind her, Paul popped up in the backseat, scaring Reyna tremendously.
"Hey," Chris chimed. "I'm trying to drive, so calm it down with the screaming, alright?"
"What the hell are you doing?" Reyna spoke to Paul, ignoring Chris's words.
"I'm helping make your night worthwhile," he answered as he threw a ball of fabric at her, as well as a pair of tennis shoes. "I didn't have any money on me, so just kinda stole those, but after you're done wearing them I'll take them back—no problem."
Reyna shook her head and unballed the clothes to find yet another note.
I wasn't sure if you would remember this the way I did, which is why I already gave the two idiots you're with directions to where they needed to go. But a few months after you turned sixteen, you went through this horrible stage of insecurity and it broke my heart. I remember finding you crying inside the bathroom where I took you to hang out with a few of my friends. My friends were ogling over a bunch of girls and you got upset because you thought that you would never be good enough or beautiful enough for anyone the way that you said those girls were. Anyway, you're being taken back to that spot, where I left a little something for you. Make sure to change, first.
—Sebastian
By the time Reyna had finished reading the note, Chris had stopped the car. She looked up from the note with tear-filled green eyes to see Chris staring at her, while Paul was laying in the backseat devouring the insides of an orange.
"Aw, you're crying," Chris cooed as he brushed away one of her tears. "Humans are so much more emotional than I remember them being."
"You know what helps when you're emotional?" Paul then exclaimed as he sat up in his seat. "Orange slices."
Chris let out a sigh and turned in his seat to look at Paul. "What the hell did I tell you about eating in the car?"
"Luis wouldn't treat me like this," Paul muttered as he slowly brought his final orange slice to his mouth.
Reyna only chuckled and shook her head before gathering the clothes and getting out of the car. She made her way towards the small restaurant, which appeared to be closed, and just as she began questioning whether or not she was in the right place, the door to the restaurant opened to reveal Chad. He wasn't in his Black Panther suit, but he was in a very T'Challa-ish outfit, which led her to believe that he was in character.
"Hurry, Miss Foster," he said as he beckoned her towards him, his Wakandan accent thick.
Reyna hurried over to him and he ushered her inside. There was no one inside the restaurant, which only further led Reyna to believe that it was closed.
"Is the restaurant closed or something?" Reyna asked him.
"Yes, but not many people can turn down the presence of royalty when it approaches them for a favor," Chad spoke with a slight smirk on his face. "I suggest changing in the bathroom, Miss Foster."
Reyna gave a slight nod before heading to the bathroom. She wasted no time at all in peeling her clothes off and throwing on the ones Paul had given her. She now wore a pair of grey sweatpants, one of Sebastian's hoodies, and a pair of black Nike tennis shoes, which she found was a lot more comfortable than her previous outfit had been.
She picked her clothes up off of the ground, careful not to disturb the items in her jacket pockets, and hurried out of the bathroom. Chad stood in the middle of the lobby with his arms folded behind his back. Once he took notice of Reyna, however, he removed his hands from behind his back to display another envelope similar to the one she found back in the woods. He held it out to her, and she laid her clothes and shoes down on a table before taking it from him and pulling out its contents, which consisted of yet another note.
You are good enough, Reyna Lynn, and you are beautiful enough. Even now when you aren't dressed up I still think you're the most beautiful woman in the world. I always have, especially when you're stuffing your face with food. Speaking of food, why don't you head on over to our place? Y'know, the place we would go every Monday and Friday after school? I know you remember.
—Sebastian
Reyna looked up at Chad as she finished reading the note, and he smiled at her before gesturing her out the door. She ran out the door and back towards the car Chris had brought her to the restaurant in.
"Where to now, young Foster?" Chris asked her as she got into the car.
Reyna gave him the directions and before long he was taking off down the road.
About ten minutes passed before Chris pulled up in front of his destination, and Reyna smiled as she looked at the small establishment. She hopped out of the car, thank Chris and Paul in the process, before making her way towards the entrance of Nicky's Pizza and Deli.
"There's our girl now," a voice exclaimed as Reyna made her way inside.
She turned her attention towards a table where Jeremy and Scarlett sat; Scarlett wore her red wig, and while Jeremy wasn't dressed in his supersuit, she knew better than anyone that he was in character.
"It's about damn time," Scarlett muttered as she stood up from her chair. "Hurry up and grab your order so we can get the hell out of this place; Barton here is driving me insane."
Reyna gave her a confused look. "My order?"
Before Scarlett could respond, Reyna's name was being called. Jeremy ran over to grab it before Reyna could even think, and after paying the man he hurried back over to the two women, practically shoving the two large boxes, as well as the two medium sized boxes, into Reyna's hands. There was a note on top of the final box, Reyna noticed, and she read over the words.
Your final stop is the place we first met. I'll see you soon, ReyLynn.
—Sebastian
"Are you comin' or not?" Scarlett questioned Reyna with a raised brow.
Reyna snapped out of her trance long enough to nod, and she followed behind Jeremy and Scarlett towards a slick black Corvette, one very much like the one she had driven in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. They were going all out for the sake of what Sebastian had planned, and for some reason Reyna seemed to really admire that.
"Sorry, Barton," Scarlett called as she rounded the front of the car. "I don't think there's enough room for the three of us."
"It's okay, I didn't get to finish turnover anyway," Jeremy grumbled before running back into the restaurant.
Scarlett simply chuckled and got into the car, followed by a very emotional Reyna. She held the food soundly on her lap as Scarlet drove down the street, her thoughts drifting to everything that had been happening with the last hour or so. She couldn't believe that whatever was happening was actually happening, but she couldn't bring herself to mind. The events taking place just proved to her that she had some of the greatest friends in the world.
The car screeching to a stop was what tore Reyna from her thoughts. She looked to Scarlett, who had a very snide smirk on her face.
"I'd get out if I were you," she teased. "I wouldn't wanna keep him waiting."
Reyna bit her lip and got out of the car, taking the boxes of food with her. The moment she shut the door, Scarlett sped off, leaving Reyna alone in front of the small school building that had changed her life so many years ago. She took a deep breath and climbed up the stairs that led to the school's entrance, though before she had the chance to push it open, it was being pulled open from the other side.
The sight of Leighton's face startled her and she took a few steps back, very narrowly avoiding a trip back down the stairs.
"It's about time you got here," Leighton breathed out as she turned to head into the school, motioning Reyna to follow her. "He's been waiting for quite some time."
Reyna shut the door behind her as she made her way into the school building with Leighton. "W-where is he?" she asked Leighton nervously.
"It's better if you don't ask questions," Leighton told her with a sigh. It was then that Reyna knew she was in character as well, though she should've suspected it given the skin tight black suit she was wearing. "I'm only here to bring you where I was told to bring you, and that's exactly what I'm going to do."
Reyna stopped talking after that, and before long Leighton was leading her into a large room, which Reyna knew to be the auditorium. The enormous screen sitting above the stage came to life almost immediately, and the auditorium door shut behind Reyna. She turned to find that Leighton was no longer in the room with her. The sound of Sebastian's voice echoing through the room caught her attention, though, and she turned back around to see his face on the screen. He was dressed in his Winter Soldier attire, which gave Reyna some insight as to when the video was filmed.
"Reyna, I know these last few weeks have been really hard and it's been my fault," Sebastian started. "But I'm sorry, okay? The reason I was got so drunk that night was so I could dull the pain I felt from missing you, but it didn't work. After playing that game with Leighton and Chris, my mind just kind of disappeared from me. I looked at Leighton, and for some reason all I could see was you. I was so happy because I thought you had actually come back, and that happiness is what drove my actions. That's the reason I kissed Leighton—I thought she was you."
"It's true," came Leighton's voice.
Her face appeared on the screen for the smallest of seconds before Sebastian pushed her out of frame.
"Anyway," Sebastian began again as he cautiously eyed the woman off camera. "I would never ever hurt you like that on purpose. You are the only one for me, Reyna Foster, and you always will be. I mean that with all my heart. I can't live without you, and these last few months have certainly done an excellent job proving that to me. So please. . .forgive me? Be mine again, Rey?"
The screen cut off after that, though Reyna didn't have much time to think before a familiar voice sounded behind.
"Please, Reyna?"
She spun around immediately, her tear-filled eyes meeting Sebastian's bright blue ones. She sat the boxes of food down in one of the auditorium chairs and ran to him, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck and burying her head into his neck. Sebastian seemed to let out a sigh of relief at the mere feeling of having her in his arms again, and he squeezed her tightly, almost as if he were afraid to let her go.
"I forgive you," Reyna forced out as the tears made their way down her face.
Reyna pulled away from him, her eyes once again meeting Sebastian's. He smiled down at her, his eyes welling up with tears as well. "You don't know how happy I am to hear you say that," he said to her.
Before she was given the opportunity to respond, Sebastian pressed his lips to hers in a kiss that was far passed overdue. Their lips melded with one another's; the gesture was filled with so much love, yet there was also a desperation for one another that had been building over the last four months, a desperation the two could wait to tend to.
"I love you so much, Reyna," Sebastian said as he pulled away from her, pressing his forehead to hers.
Reyna kissed his lips again, her fingers tangling into his shoulder-length locks. "I love you, Sebastian."
Sebastian bit his lip and reached into his pocket, pulling out the jewel he had been longing to give back to her since she had forced it into his hold that night at the party. "Never take this off again, okay?" Sebastian breathed out as he grabbed her left hand.
"Okay," Reyna responded quietly as she watched him slide the ring onto her finger.
Sebastian looked back down at Reyna, his blue eyes filling with so much love and admiration for her. There would never be enough words in the world to describe the way Sebastian felt about Reyna; he loved her more than he could put into words or even actions. "You are the light and the love of my life, Reyna Lynn. Please never forget that," he spoke softly to her, running the pad of his thumb over the soft skin of her face.
Reyna only nodded and pulled him into another kiss, though she pulled away after several seconds. "Happy anniversary, Sebastian Stan."
"Happy anniversary to you, too, Reyna Stan," Sebastian replied as he pressed his lips to hers once more, trapping them both in a moment that was sure to be theirs forever.
