Voices

I found her sitting on the asphalt
with a smile on her face
she was looking off into the distance
at what, I cannot say
when I tried to ask what she was doing
she shushed me and turned away
after a time, her eyes lit up
she turned to me and said,
"can't you hear their voices?
they're calling back and forth
they've been apart for a long time
but now they've found each other again"
