BLEEDING - 29
In the perfect darkness of the midnight, moon graced the clear and starry sky. Warm milky glow of the moon travelled through the night with ease, lighting the path for Sam, driving Markus, him and Chloe to their destination.
From a distance, as Chloe watched, she saw their campus building nearing. She turned her head, and looked ahead at Sam, "Why....why are we....going there now ?" She asked, thinking that he had lied to her and was going to leave her there.
Upon receiving no answer from him, she turned to Markus, sitting on the passenger seat. Sensing her eyes on him, he spoke, "Chill we just need some equipments."
"Okay" She replied and visibly relaxed.
Shortly, he pulled off in the campus.
"Get out of the car." Sam stated. In surprise, "But.." she trailed off but was cut by him, "We are gonna go by that car....." He said pointing at a black SUV infront of them. "..Now hurry up and do as I say." He commanded. She gulped and immediately got out. Walking towards the other car, she silently sat down in the back seat. Sam got out and headed towards the building. Markus sighed and followed him.
Passing through the murky hallway, they reached Damon's cabin and knocked. The middle aged man allowed them to go inside.
"We'll be heading now." Sam told him. Damon rose up from his seat and neared them. Placing either of his hands on the shoulders of Sam and Markus, he said, "Alright son, be more careful this time." They nodded and headed to the other cabins to collect a pair of two way radios and a tiny spy bluetooth earbud. It was so small that it could easily miss anyone's eye.
Chloe, who was sitting with her arms folded under her head, resting against the window, straightened up as soon as she saw them coming over.
Car door opened with a clack and both of them seated themselves. Sam turned around and handed her one of the two way radios.
"You see anything, you tell me with this. Alright ?" He told her. Her heart was filled with trepidation but she had made her mind. "Yeah." She replied. "Good." Sam whispered and revved off the engine.
Anxiousness gripped her like a mother holds her newborn, keeping him safe within her arms. In a situation like that, for a person like her, feeling anxious was natural. It was like a defence reaction, that would keep her alert and safe.
After about half an hour drive, Sam turned the car right, leaving the broad road, having cars running over it and reached an abandoned, blacktop street. Chloe looked around her, dilapidating buildings and a few street lights was all she could see. There was no one far away in sight.
He stopped the car, across a building.
"Be hidden and alert. That's all." Sam reminded, watching her through the rearview mirror. She nodded in acknowledgement.
"All the best, Chloe." Markus smiled, giving her a thumbs up. "You too." She whispered. "Once we are out, I am gonna lock the car, so no one could get inside. You understand ?" He told her, and reasoned his actions so confidently that she had to believe that he was actually doing it for her safety and not because he lacked trust. "Yes."
After that they exited, locking the car behind.
Sam and Markus entered the same club where Sam had a fight few days ago. Similar to that night, club was electronic. On one side, music was bursting through the speakers and people were dancing like crazy whereas on the other, people were gathered around the fighting ring watching over two buffed men fighting for their lives.
Sam and Markus took seats by the bar.
"Two Beers." Markus ordered. "Sure" The bartender replied. Meanwhile they both carefully watched over the men and women, trying to find their informant when a hooded man began to approach them.
"Well he seems suspicious." Markus whispered underneath his breath, staring at the man intently. Sam didn't avert his gaze from him either and eyed him suspiciously and soon the man removed his hood. It only took Sam a few seconds to recognise him, and once he did his hands reached for his holstered pistol.
The man was somewhat tall perhaps a few inches shorter than Sam. Scruffy beard obscured most part of his face, giving off a rugged look. Upon looking at Sam, he realised that he was recognised and raised his hands up slightly in surrender and cautiously walked closer and took a seat on his right.
"I didn't expect to see you." Sam spoke, menacingly, sipping onto his beer.
"Nor did I." The man replied. Markus narrowed his eyes unable to comprehend the context of their conversation.
"So, now that you are here, give me one reason why I shouldn't kill you for what you did that night ?" Sam questioned, looking dead in his eyes. The man refused to avert his eyes at first but under Sam's intent gaze he turned away.
"Cause I am the one who mailed you that post." He whispered. "And I know who's behind all this." He added. "I know you do." Sam retorted. "The question is, how did you change your mind ?" He enquired. The man let out a breath, that trembled along it's path.
"All this is about revenge, and now I want mine." The man shrugged.
"Listen to me, I don't have time for your fu**ing riddles. So tell me straight and clear, why are you here and who is behind all this." Scornfully, Sam stated.
"Clara Luciano, or Clara Forelli for you." Coldly, he replied. Upon hearing the name, a frown etched across Sam and Markus' forehead as they exchanged a confused look.
"Isn't that surname familiar ?" Man further added and then they realised the meaning behind his words.
"Who is she to him ?" Markus asked.
Man glanced at him and said, "Wife, better yet widow of Antonio Forelli. She is a trained assassin and leader of The Luciano Cartels, you know it as The Forelli Cartels. After the death of Antonio she changed it."
"So she is doing all this for revenge." Markus questioned more like stated. The man gave him a nod. "You betrayed her, why ?" Man intently stared Sam, his jaws were tensed and eyes were hard, "For years I worked for her and for Antonio before and still she put me through hell.." He said, showing a circular burn mark by his neck. "...just because I got caught and she couldn't believe me when I told her I didn't give you any information.....But now, I did what I should have done earlier." Over again, they stared each other dead in the eyes.
"Where is she now ?" Sam further questioned.
Meanwhile, Chloe was ducked lower behind the front seat in an attempt to hide from anyone's view. No sound could be heard except for that of her heavy breaths and rapid beating heart. Sweat had dampened her face and her movements became tighter. She was scared yet she continued to watch over the place.
Around fifteen minutes had passed since her eyes were flickering in the two direction, left and right, but no one came into her view. Another minute passed, when out of the blue, a man came out of the alleyway, two buildings away from their location.
Instinctively, she rose up a little, oblivious to the fact that she was clearly visible from the side windows. The man began to walk in the direction of the building, stumbling along the path. She gulped and grabbed the radio. However, before she turned it on and said anything, the man was sprawled on the footpath. Chloe released a breath of relief.
Just when she thought everything was fine, she heard rapid knocks on the window. In shock, she jerked back such that she landed on her hips and her head hit the door. She groaned in pain and shut her eyes tightly. From the impact the radio had fallen down from her hand.
In less than minute, the knocks turned into loud banging. Her head shot up and she caught two men banging on the window. Her eyes widened as panic rose within her. Adrenaline crashed through her like bone chilling water of the ocean. Her brain reminded her of the radio and only then she realised it wasn't in her hand. She was frightened down to the soles of her shoes. Her eyes glistened with tears. With trembling hands and blurry vision, she desperately tried to find the radio when at once, the banging stopped. Dread gnawed at her insides as she slowly lifted her head and saw that the man at the other side was all set to break it with a brick in his hand.
As a primitive instinct, she cowered, protecting her head. And next minute, shattering of the glass resonated throughout the vacant street. The brick fell few inches ahead of her. The man unlocked the door from inside. Her panic increased to an extent that it flared in her eyes. The man removed the brick and grabbed her foot to drag her, "No...no...no" She croaked out, in between her cries while holding onto the door on the other side. But the man was much stronger than her and he got successful in his motives. Her hold loosened, she tried to make it as hard as possible by holding onto the mat but he was still able to drag her. Luckily, her hand stumbled upon the radio and somehow she turned it on and choked out, "Help."
The shrillness of her voice sent chills down Sam's spine and he had to remove the bud. It took him a minute or so to compose himself, before he wore it again.
"What happened ?" Markus asked concerned. Instead of responding to him,
"Chloe, Chloe" Sam yelled through his radio and in response, heard faint muffled screams.
"Fu**" He cursed in anger. "She's in danger. He said and stood up with a jerk . "Don't you fu**ing dare to escape." He warned the man. "I'll take care of that, now fu**ing hurry." Markus said, worried about her.
Without any other words, Sam dashed out of the building, to the car and saw the broken window and unlocked door.
"Fu**ing hell."
