Chapter 1: Another day...Another Soul
Soul Society 5:00AM
10th Division Office
Jin's POV
Today is just any other day. More souls die, and pass over to our world. Each day, and every day. Is there more to our lives, other than collecting souls? Is the only purpose in our lives?
I clearly don't understand being a Shinigami, yet.
"Hey, Jin! Snap out of it!" A loud yell interrupted my train of thought. I looked to my right, and saw Rangiku Matsumoto, Lieutenant of the 10th Division. Toshiro Hitsugaya is her captain.
Toshiro has white hair, blue eyes and slightly tanned skin. He's actually shorter than most Captains, but size doesn't matter.
Rangiku has strawberry blonde hair, light blue eyes, and a curvaceous body. She tends to slack off every once in a while. But even though she's like that, she can be very kind and caring...when she needs to be.
I smiled at her, and blushed a little. I feel this way every time a girl gets close to me.
"Whatcha doing?" She asked, smiling.
I tapped my temple three times.
"Oh, you're just doing some thinking, huh? Well, I was wondering...."
I looked at her in interest, eyes widened a little.
"....would you like to come to the Real World with my Captain and I? We're doing some patrol, and we need the extra help. Well?" She tilted her head, and closed her eyes when she asked 'Well?'
I held my chin, thinking for a moment, and nodded, giving her a closed eye smile.
"Alright! Well, you better get everything finished, before tomorrow. We're leaving at 9 o'clock. 'Kay?"
I nodded, again.
"MATSUMOTOOOOO!!!!!" Captain Toshiro shouted from a few rooms over.
"Uh oh. Bye, Jin! She waved, and left. The door slid closed. I went back to my paperwork, and began working as fast as I could before tomorrow. I felt a little excited. 'I haven't been to the real world in three years. When I was only 16...' I thought, and trailed off....
*Flashback*
The moonlight shone across the streets and houses of Karakura Town. A few clouds could be seen, streaking the sky. The stars twinkled across the night sky. A group of Shinigami jump across the roofs of houses, not making a single sound.
"Welcome to Karakura Town, boys." A young slim woman with black hair, dark tanned skin, and yellow eyes said, giving a smile to her group.
*End of Flashback*
Present day...
That day was full of surprises. Yoruichi Shihouin showed my group many things about the real world. Even some of the laws they uphold. A lot of things are illegal there. A lot of other things are legal. Either way, some of the laws are just plain stupid.
Yoruichi.... I wonder how she's been doing. I haven't seen her since my team was slaughtered... My team.....
A single tear escaped my eye, and landed on my hand. I wiped my eye, and finished my work. I gathered the papers, and picked them up.
'I'll take them to Captain Hitsugaya now.' I thought to myself, as I left my temporary office.
I turned left, and heard Toshiro yelling at Rangiku, for slacking off, and not doing her paperwork.
I snuck in, and slowly stalked towards his desk, as Rangiku began protesting.
I placed the paperwork onto his desk, and left, before it got worse.
I silently slid the door shut, and went back to my office. I packed my things and wore my backpack. I wore my headphones, and placed the key to the office, onto Captain Hitsugaya's desk, when he wasn't looking.
I placed the headphones over my ears, and began walking home. I pulled out my mobile device, and began playing some Bon Jovi. 'Livin' on a Prayer' began to play, as I walked down the hall.
'Tommy used to work on the doooock!
Union's been on strike, he's down on his luck! It's tooough, mmm, so to-oooough!'
'Gina works the diner all dayyy. Working for her man, she brings home the bed for loooove, mmmm, for lo-ooove!
She says we gotta hold on to what we've got. It doesn't make a difference if we make it or not. We got each other, and that's a lot for loooove! So give it a shot!
Ooooh, were halfway there! Oooh, Livin' in a Prayer! Take my hand, we'll make it I swear! Ooooh, Livin' on a Prayer!'
At that last verse, I jumped on top of a roof, and kept walking. I took my headphones off, and paused the music, enjoying the scenery. The sun is just about to set. I jump to another roof, until I reach the top of the towers.
The wind blows, and ruffles my shiny black hair. I blink my bright blue eyes, and smile at the sight of the setting sun. Streaks of pink and orange illuminated the sky, signalling the evening hours.
I smiled, and the brushed the hairs out of my face. I jumped off the tower, and drew my zanpakuto. I stabbed it into the wall, so that my speed from falling decreases. Just so the landing doesn't kill me. After 2 minutes of free-falling with my katana attached to the tower, I landed, and sheathed my sword.
I placed my headphones back on, and headed home, to the northern part of Rukongai.
Northern Rukongai
5:00 PM
I arrived at my house, and opened the door. I entered, and closed it behind me. A single candle was lit, flickering on a table.
Two beds sat against a wall, with two teens, sleeping. The one on the left is a girl with long brown hair, and purple eyes. She slept peacefully, holding a photo of her parents in her hands. Her name is Sakura Ohara. The one on the right is a boy with short blonde hair, and grey eyes. His name is Ichika Ohara. I smiled, and kissed both of their foreheads, one by one. ' I'll find your parents.' I thought, before I stood straight. I took my headphones and mobile device, also known as a iPod, onto the table. I also took my silver chain off, and placed it there as well.
I took off my Shinigami outfit, hung it in a nearby closet and wore my pajamas. I walked toward the candle, and blew it out.
