Chapter 4
Her mother glared at her. Phoenix shrunk down as she got thrown. "This is all your fault! Patches was killed, the cancer killed him!" She roared. Phoenix started to tear up. "Wha...?" She asked in disbelief. She turned to her father, who accidentally dropped a match on the red liquid that lay on the floor.
The liquid burst into flames and Phoenix's parents stepped back. She tried to follow them, but she was pushed further into the house as they ran away from the fire.
Phoenix stepped away the best she could, the heat was overbearing. Her heart was beating rather fast. She never got to say goodbye to her brother! A voice in the back of her head started to sound louder until she felt as though she could actually hear it. "At least you can see him again."
The voice kept repeating in her head until she accepted it. The flames engulfed the entrance long before, so she was now just embracing death. Phoenix knew it was part of life, and she thought that maybe she could meet Captain Ghostly too!
Another voice in her mind told her to step away from the fire, so she listened. Phoenix became fixated on the fire. It was mesmerizing. It crept closer, which caused Phoenix to snap out of it and step back. The adrenaline coursing through her veins caused her to run. She ran into her room and slammed the door closed. She hid beneath her nest in hopes it was all just a bad dream, something that never happened.

Phoenix managed to convince herself it was all a bad dream. She got out from her nest and opened the door. Fire was everywhere, and Phoenix slammed it shut again. She stayed at the edge of her room, furthest away from the door.
She was terrified and didn't know what to do. "Perhaps this is all my fault." She mumbled to herself. She curled up and started to cry. It burned her eyes and smoke started pouring into the room.
The door had started to burn enough where little holes formed and scorched the wooden material. After a few seconds, the fire burst through. Phoenix shrieked and pressed against the stone. She knew there would be no escape, so she officially accepted death.
Lying there against the heating stone, Phoenix awaited for the fire to consume her. She let out more tears before starting to speak. "I'm sorry mom, I'm sorry dad. I'm sorry Patchy, I'm sorry Captain Ghostly and Captain MottlePaw, I'm sorry world!" She cried.
The fire kept creeping closer and closer. Each inch causing Phoenix to cry harder and her heart to beat faster. Ringing started in her ears, and the world around her grew fuzzy and dark.
The tears burned her eyes more and more. Phoenix could practically feel the fire in front of her. Its flames were nice and warm, they almost seemed welcoming, but she refused to accept them.
The ringing died down some, and the fire started to burn her paws. A sharp pain shot through Phoenix's shoulder blades. She thought she died, and to confirm that she was still alive, she bit herself using her fangs. A thought then echoed in her mind after she felt the pain from her fangs.
"Dragon's blood."
