Chapter 1
Sunny hopped around Patches. Her peachy fur glistening in the sunlight. Patches was lying in his nest, as he usually was, so Sunny made it her goal to keep him entertained. "Sunny, you need to leave him be. You're draining his energy." Sunny's mother spoke.
She rolled her eyes. "You always tell me that! And he gets bored when he's always in bed!" Sunny exclaimed. Patches nodded. "Yeah." He weakly spoke. The mother shook her head. "That's no excuse. You two know he can't do much, he's too weak!" She stated. Sunny frowned. "How will he ever get stronger if he never does anything?" She asked. The mother sighed. "Because he can't get stronger if he's too weak to get stronger. He's sick, and because of that, it prevents him from getting stronger."
Sunny groaned. "Yeah, but the treatments clearly aren't doing anything! Thats what's making him weaker, and Patchy could still do something, so he's entertained!" She complained. The mother growled. "Listen here young lady! You already know that he's too weak to play. You can talk, and that's that. Got it?" The queen lashed her tail, and Sunny let out another groan.
"Fine. Patchy, want me to read more pirate books?" She asked excitedly. Patches excitedly nodded the best he could. Sunny grinned and ran past her exhausted mother into the larger part of the cave. She grabbed a book from the bookshelf and ran back in by her brother. Her mother sat down and watched the two interact.
"Alright, great Patchy the pirate! Here we go, into the new book!" Sunny spoke with passion as the two loved pirates. The entire concept was amazing, and they even started looking into real historical pirates.
"Long ago, around sixty six BC, a team of pirates led by Captain Ghostly started to set sail in the Northern Dragon in search of resources and other treasures," Sunny started. "Wasn't Captain Ghostly the one who raided the entire country of Spire?" Patches quietly asked. Sunny nodded. "Yes, now let me finish this paragraph!" She exclaimed. Their mother smiled, and quietly walked out of the room.
"the main resource the crew was looking for was dragons blood. Captain Ghostly didn't let this deter them though and led his crew safely through the Northern Dragon. Crossing the ocean didn't go easily despite what it may seem. In a diary entry of one of the crew members, it said that they had to look out for the cursed sea serpent. It was apparently very well known in Northern Dragon, hence the name of the ocean." Sunny finished the paragraph. "Sea serpents don't exist! What is this, a fiction book?" Patches asked.
Sunny shrugged. "No, it's non-fiction. It was probably exaggerating because it's in the past and they wanted to seem even cooler." She answered, then continued.
"When they encountered the beast, Captain Ghostly was the one to kill it. Its head was then mounted on their ship as a warning to other pirates. Luckily no other pirates dared follow them, and most steered clear. When they reached the chasm that was said to have the dragon, Captain Ghostly and three other crewmates went in. From other entries from other crewmates, their captain had come out by himself, bloodied and holding a vial of dragons blood, carrying the three other crewmates as they had died. They buried the bodies later on, on a much nicer island." Sunny took a breath so she could continue.
"On their way back, there were reports of Captain Ghostly lashing out and being more overall aggressive, however in his own diary, it was revealed that more was going on under the surface. He felt as though he failed his crew, and he wanted to do more, yet Captain Ghostly was unable. It also mentioned that he was thinking that everything was his fault, the deaths of his crewmates and the sea serpent attacking them. He also had a lot of pain going on by his shoulder blades, yet he never spoke of it to his crew. On the fourth day of their trip, Captain Ghostly was said to have stood over the edge of the boat, looking down. Then he-" Sunny was interrupted by Patches coughing.
Sunny gasped as her mother pushed her aside as she rushed into the room. As she slammed against the wall, the queen started running around, calling their father into the room. Sunny was confused, and sat there, pain in her head and back.
