Chapter 4-Getting use to a new life
The next morning Silver woke up early from the sounds of birds chirping in the air. He turned onto his side and pulled the blanket over his head before mumbling, "shut up birds, I'm trying to sleep." He groaned and tried to fall back asleep but the sounds of the birds kept him from doing so.
After thirty minutes of tossing and turning he finally decided to start his day. "I give up. Birds need to learn how to sleep and keep their conversations on the low." Silver stood up and stretched his arms out. He then went to start his new morning routine in a cave that he now has to get used to.
Living alone in a cave with only his baby sister was hard for him. Silver learned a lot about taking care of a baby, especially with Chris's help. Every time Silver started to run out of water, food and baby formula he would head straight to the city. The kind man named Chris would give Silver everything he needed whenever he came by. Silver eventually introduced Chris to his baby sister, he would start bringing her with him when she started getting a bit older. Chris was always happy to see them, they brought him some joy in his lonely store which is something he greatly needed.
Chris had no children, no wife and only a few friends. People in the big city would look down poorly on him. He wasn't rich like everyone else, he was just a simple man who owned a little grocery store. Silver cared for him a lot and his baby sister was starting to get used to him as well. They were content with the life they had right now.
One day when Silver went to visit Chris, a question by Chris caught Silvers attention. Something he hadn't even thought about.
"What is your sisters name? You never told me." Silver thought for a moment realizing his baby sister was never given a name. "I don't know, my parents died before they could give her a name. I didn't even think about that until just now when you brought it up." Chris looked down at the little baby girl that Silver is holding. "Oh, well you should name her then." Silver looked up at Chris. "I wouldn't even know where to start with names." Chris thought for a moment. "What about naming her after your mother? That would probably be nice. What was your mothers name?" "It was ThunderBolt." Silver said to him. "Your family seams to have some unique names. I like them, it's different rather then mine that's just Chris." Silver shrugged. "I still like your name though." Chris smiled and he pat Silvers head. "Thanks, you're a good kid." Silver smiled before looking out a window. The sun was starting to set, which was his key to go back to the cave.
"I need to head back to the cave, but I'll be back again some other time within the next few days. I'll also be thinking hard about what her name will be. Thank you again for everything Chris." Silver walked out of the store then looked back to Chris who he smiled and waved at. Chris waved back as he watched Silver disappear deep into the forest.
Since Silver had started coming to see Chris his attitude changed from scared and alone, to happy and thankful. Chris was glad to see such a big change in the young boy and it made him happy to see it.
Silver arrived back at the cave just as the sun had set. He walked over to the two beds and carefully laid his baby sister down. Since Silver has been getting up so early due to the birds chirping he went to bed quite early. He laid down in his own bed next to his sisters and he started thinking of names. However, none of the names he came up with he liked. All of them were either common, hard to say, or he just didn't like them. Sighing in defeat he stared up at the cave ceiling.
"I wish you could talk right now, it's pretty lonely not having anyone to talk with, especially right now since it's so dull and boring in this cave." Silver thought about a time when he was talking with Chris a while back about babies and when they would start to say their first word. He remembered Chris saying how babies can understand simple words at nine months and she might say her first word as early as eight months. Silver couldn't hardly wait until she said her first word. It meant she would be growing up normal and healthy. He looked over at his baby sister who was already fast asleep. He thought about how old she was but he didn't know exactly. The thought of how old she is started to bug Silver so he decided to get up and look at the calendar that Chris gave him a while back. He flipped through the pages until he reached the month that his sister was born. He flipped back through to the month they are in now and he realized his baby sister was eight months and two weeks old.
"You can say your first word any day now!" Silver smiled wide unable to contain his excitement. He remained excited all night and eventually fell asleep.
The next morning he woke up to the sounds of birds chirping once again. Sitting up and yawning Silver stretched out his arms then he looked over at his baby sister who was awake. He looked at her beautiful silver eyes that had hints of yellow and purple in them. They were truly an amazing eye color, and quite rare at that.
Silver stood up and walked up to her then he gently picked her up and held her close, as he started to rock her back and forth she opened her mouth and said her first word.
"Blaze....."
