Chapter 10-Consequences of water
Blaze and Silver had just woken up not too long ago. Silver was inside the cave getting ready for the day while Blaze was outside sitting by the lake. She had already gotten ready earlier and now she was looking down at her reflection in the water lost in thought. Her mind was still thinking about the questions from the previous night, the ones she had thought about all night long until she had fallen asleep.
Once Silver finished getting ready, he walked out of the cave and over to Blaze. He noticed she was staring at her reflection in the water so he decided she needed some cheering up. Silver walked over to the lake near Blaze then he reached down and put his hand into the cold water.
"Hey Blaze." Silver wanted to get her attention first and he succeeded at that. Blaze turned to look at him then she noticed his hand was in the water. "Duck." Silver smirked then Blaze quickly ducked right when he splashed water at her but he just missed her by an inch. "You missed!" "I won't this time, that was just a warning splash." Silver smirked. "You're so on." Blaze went to put her hand in the water but Silver was quick. Before Blaze knew it, Silver had already put his hand in the water and he splashed more water towards Blaze. She tried her best to dodge it but some of the water had landed just below the top of her left shoulder. Instead of Blaze pouting or trying to splash him back, Silver heard a sound like something was being burned, a sizzling sound was coming from Blazes shoulder where the water had hit, followed by Blazes scream of pain.
Silvers eyes widened. "Blaze are you ok?!" Silver asked, his voice full of worry. Blaze shook her head then Silver noticed blood was staining through her shirt on her shoulder where the water had hit her. Blaze carefully pulled her shirt away from her shoulder, they saw it was covered in blood. "Oh no, I'm so sorry Blaze, I didn't mean to. I didn't know the water would hurt you like this, I thought you've always been ok around water. Let's go get you to Chris, and fast."
Silver and Blaze quickly walked to the city straight to the store where Chris works at. Silver opened the door for Blaze and she quickly walked inside. "Chris!!" Silver called out as he entered the store.
Chris heard his name being called but he noticed the tone of voice was a very worried and scared one. He ran out from behind the counter to where he heard someone call for him. To his surprise he saw Blazes shoulder bleeding badly, and Silver looked very upset.
"What happened?!" Chris said as he ran to the back of the store where some medical supplies were. "Somehow the water in the lake hurt her." Silvers voice was now shaking. Chris came back with a cloth, medicine and a white soft wrap to put around the wound.
"Tell me exactly what happened to Blaze." Chris said as he started to tend to Blazes wound. "We started playing around and I was trying to splash her with water and when I finally splashed her, she screamed out in pain right after the water hit her shoulder." Silver explained. "That's strange." Chris started to put the medicine on Blazes arm which caused her to flinch from the pain. "Stay still please, I'm almost done." Blaze nodded as Chris continued tending to her wound.
"Can she not touch water or something?" Silver asked. "I'm not sure." "But she has drank water before, so this doesn't make any sense." Silver added. Chris took the white wrap and he wrapped up the wound around Blazes shoulder. "It's done, just be careful with your shoulder, it will take time to heal." Blaze nodded. "Please tell me why this happened Chris. I want to know." Silver was pushing for an answer, but he did not get the answer that he wanted. "I honestly don't know, I'll try and figure this out. For now just stay here in the store while I try to do some research on this." Chris walked off leaving Blaze and Silver in silence.
Silver turned his gaze towards the ground, he felt really bad about what he had done, he never wanted to hurt his sister. Blaze looked over at Silver, she noticed his gaze was towards the ground. "I'm ok Silver, it was only an accident, you didn't know the water would hurt me." Silver lifted his head then he looked over at her. "I'll be ok, so don't feel bad about this anymore. Accidents happen and that's ok." Silver nodded with a sigh.
They waited a little while until finally Chris walked over to them. "Did you figure it out?" Silver asked Chris who nodded. "Yes, it turns out lightning and water don't mix at all. I already knew this but I wasn't thinking about that with Blaze, she can't touch water because of her lightning powers. If she does...well, you saw what happens when she does." Silver nodded with a sigh. "At least it makes sense now, but why can she drink water? That doesn't affect her at all, why?" Silver asked. "I don't know, it's probably because she isn't touching the water with her skin. She can drink it but not touch it, just like a normal person, her body needs water to survive, so she has to drink it, and lucky for her, she still can." Chris said.
It all made sense to Silver and Blaze now. However, with this new surprising information, Blaze has to learn to stay away from the water and never touch it, that will be difficult.
"Keep the bandage on Blaze, I'll tell you when you can take it off. Hopefully it doesn't leave a scar." Chris added. Blaze sighed before nodding. She has to get use to this new arrangement, and fast, something else could end up happening to her if she's not careful. Something much worse.
