Day ??: A New Beginning
Laurence and Garroth laid out in the field all night, speaking softly and drifting into sleep sharing a gentle embrace. Soon enough, the sun began to rise over the two boys, making Laurence blink and sit up.
He looked over at Garroth, dozing softly in the morning light. Seeing the person he loved like this, so handsome in this light, it made him blush. Laurence then felt his stomach grumbling, and looked over at the tunnel, He sighed with disappointment as he realized that they had run out of food a day ago.
He stood up, wondering what they could eat around them. He didn't know anything about herbs, plants, or any sort of wildlife that could help them in this predicament. All he knew is that they needed to find a source of water, or at least a farm house where they could get some help. He reached down to nudge Garroth.
"Garroth... wake up. It's morning." He whispered, feeling a little bad that he had to wake Garroth up from his peaceful state.
Garroth yawned after a moment, and rubbed his eyes, squinting as he glanced around. "Morning Laurence..." He mumbled, stretching out his back as he spoke. After a moment he got to his feet, and looked around. "So, what's the plan?" His voice was still tired, and his eyes full of sleepiness.
Laurence looked around once more. "Find food, water, or civilization." He said, trying to make his voice sound more confident than he actually was. "Not necessarily in that order. Any one of those things would be a good start."
Garroth nodded, and straightened up a little more as he began to wake up. "Ok, so it looks like the best thing we can do is pick a direction to go, and walk until we find something."
Laurence looked at him with confusion. "What? If we do that we are going to get lost for sure! Or maybe run into something dangerous! We need to scope out the area first."
Garroth raised an eyebrow with a smirk. "Look around Laurence. There is nothing but wheat for miles. Scoping out the area would only lose daylight." The blond boy gestured around them, the rolling hills of the golden wheat seemed endless.
Laurence paused for a moment. "Oh.... I didn't know how big these fields could be...." He looked around, his legs already starting to hurt just from the thought of how much walking they were going to have to do. "Well, I suppose we have noting to lose. Let's see where our feet lead us." He gave a nervous smile to Garroth.
Garroth smiled back. "We will be fine. Trust me Laurence." He took Laurence's hand, and intertwined his fingers into Laurence's. "We have noting to lose and everything to gain. As long as I'm with you, I'll survive this mess."
Laurence felt a blush rise to his cheeks as he looked away with embarrassment. He had kissed Garroth so many times, but the blond boy seemed to make him blush without even trying.
They walked in silence for hours, simply enjoying each other's company. Nothing was good about their situation, but nothing was horrible either. They were hungry, but they had eaten yesterday. They escaped the prison, but they were now in a completely unknown location with Laurence who could break down at any second. So things kind of balanced out.
It felt peaceful for the first time in forever.
Days went by. Nights were cold, but that never bothered Garroth or Laurence, as they simply cuddled in each other's arms. Days were warm, which was comfortable for them. It only took a day or so to reach the edges of the wheat fields, and berries were plentiful along the outside of the stalks.
"We could live happily out here you know." Laurence whispered as they sat near a babbling brook. "What's the point of finding civilization if we could live peacefully off the land out here." He gestured around to the vibrant greens of a a little patch of forest that they had taken refuge in. The golden fields could be seen through some of the trees, as the woods were not very dense.
Garroth sat a few feet away, and was silent for a moment. "I don't want to die out here Laurence." Was all he said, never breaking his gaze over the little brook. "I want to go back home, to my grandma's house. Live a normal life with you. We could start dating, go to fancy restaurants. You could learn about the world with me." He looked over at Laurence, who had his knees up to his chin, obviously disappointed.
"Laurence.... I know you are scared about how much has changed. It's ok to be scared." He reached over and took Laurence's hand once more. "We have each other. I swear we've had this talk a thousand times." He chuckled. "I love you Laurence. Don't you want to live in a little house, live a stable life with real food on the table? Maybe we could adopt a cat, or a dog, or maybe even a ba-" He cut himself off, realizing that was a long ways off in the future, as they are still only 16. "Maybe, just maybe.... we would even be able to find your mother."
Laurence looked up at him, tears in his eyes. "You really think so? You think my mom is out there?" He smiled through the tears that grew in his eyes.
Garroth smiled at Laurence with genuine joy in his eyes. "Only one way to find out." With that, he got to his feet, Laurence standing up by his side. He then swooped down and picked up Laurence, bridal carry style.
"Garroth! What are you-?" Laurence's voice was cut off by abrupt laughter. He wiped the tears from his eyes, smiling wide at the love of his life. He wrapped his arms around Garroth's neck, and pulled himself up just enough to give him a peck on Garroth's sun kissed cheek.
"Let's go find home." Garroth said with a smile, beginning to make his way through the forest with Laurence still in his arms.
"I'm already half way there, as long as you are here." Laurence gushed, already aware of how cheesy it sounded, and embracing it.
They were off to find a new life, a new beginning, a new story. As this chapter of their lives ended, a new adventure made its way into the horizon.

Thank you all so much for sticking with me through this adventure! I've been getting such great feedback from all of you, and I hope you enjoyed Garroth and Laurence's story. I'm thinking of writing another book on them, after this whole catastrophe and how they deal with their lives as adults after being imprisoned by Garte. I'll leave that up to you guys though! Until next time!
