Day 5: You Miss Her?
Laurence fell asleep in front of the mirror last night. The boys didn't talk much after their descriptions, but more just sat and enjoyed each other's company. Laurence hadn't turned off his speaker, he could tell because of Garroth's soft breathing on the other side of the mirror. He hadn't moved either.
Laurence yawned and stood up, turning off the speaker to let Garroth sleep in peace. "Hope he doesn't get back cramps from sleeping on the floor." Laurence chuckled as he went about his normal morning routine. He clicked a button and the doors for the shower appeared from a previously blank wall. He cleaned up a bit and then went to his wardrobe button. He pressed it and a few of his normal outfits came up.
"White T-shirt, white pants, so many choices.." He muttered sarcastically, picking two out at random and putting them on. He pressed the wardrobe button and it slid back into the wall, undetectable without pressing the button.
Of course Laurence knew that the button wouldn't work until night when he had to put on some pajamas. He laughed out loud at the thought of Garroth pressing the button frantically to see if it would open again.
He looked down at his fingers. They were sore and stung a bit when he touched them. He had been playing guitar a lot, causing his left finger pads to feel numb. Although his fingers hurt, he continued to practice for a bit.
After an hour or two, he set down the guitar and flicked up the switch. "Morning Garroth." He said cheerfully.
"Hey Laurence!" Garroth said. His voice sounding tired, but happy to hear his companion. "What's up with you this morning?"
"Nothing much, just practicing my guitar a little. You?" Laurence brushed his hand over the smooth, dark wood of his guitar, he truly loved it.
"I'm doing some painting." Garroth replied, a few splotchy sounds followed, as if he was brushing something against the wall. "I'm trying to figure out how to paint people, it's really hard." Although his tone was humorous, it had a bit of frustration laced inside.
Laurence chuckled. "Am I your muse? Who are you painting?" Laurence hoped it was him. He really wanted Garroth to understand who he was and how he looked, but right now that didn't seem probable.
He herd an amused snort from Garroth. "No, no. Not you. I'm painting my girlfriend." Confidence pouring out of him. "I mean, it's not her greatest picture, but she still looks beautiful." Admiration filled Garroth's voice as he took a few steps back, presumably to admire his work.
Laurence felt his heart sink. What was this feeling? Disappointment? No, it couldn't be, he has felt that before. This was different. It set a fire inside him, but one that was quiet, hiding it was easy, for now. Still, he felt a steady burn inside him, twisting up his insides. It was something he couldn't explain, what was happening? "So, what's her name?" Laurence asked as casually as possible, keeping his voice calm, but still having that odd feeling inside of him.
Garroth answered with no hesitation, his confidence bubbling to the brim. "Her name is Aphmau. She is the most beautiful and kind girl you could ever meet." Laurence herd Garroth's voice soften. "Her eyes are like glowing amber, warm and welcoming, but with a hint of a fiery spirit that hides underneath. Her face is lit with a dark tan glow, and raven hair that is silky and soft, so easy to braid with..." He paused, seemingly embarrassed. "Not that I would know how to braid..." An obvious lie.
Laurence's shoulder's slumped. The detail of this girl, he could see her so well. Garroth described her as if she was standing there with him, holding hands with her boyfriend. "You must really care about this girl." Laurence almost whispered, forcing his tone to sound normal.
Garroth gave a sigh, as if daydreaming. "I do. I've had a crush on her since elementary school. She is just so... indescribable." His voice was honeyed, sweet and soft like a butterfly's wing. Laurence could listen to his voice forever.
"Do you miss her?" Laurence asked suddenly. It was kind of a dumb question, but he felt it should be answered.
"Of course. I miss her more than anything." Garroth sat down on the ground, relaxing a bit. "I wish she was here."
Laurence stood silently, not really knowing how to respond. His gut felt twisted and horrible, as if Garroth had done something unforgivable, although he knew this wasn't true.
He flicked off the switch, unable to grasp what just happened.
